What a crappy time this is. Just really, really crappy.
First off, stock for most of the new PC components, including CPUs and GPUs are non existent and have been for a long time. Secondly, when they are in stock, it is fleeting and they are incredibly overpriced. I had hoped that being a bit more patient and waiting until the new year things would improve somewhat, but here we are in the new year and it's the same as it ever was, if not worse in regards to the pricing.
A 6800 XT for 1000-1100 Euros? REALLY? How in the hell is this even possible, let alone acceptable. It's beyond a joke. This generation was really interesting to me because we have seen some marked performance improvements at what seems to be a reasonable price, if we take a 6800XT at around 650β¬ as an example. It is still pricy, sure, as I remember being able to get top tier cards for around 400β¬, however comparatively that seems like an utter bargain when all the actual available cards are priced at nearly double that.
Absolutely infuriating and completely disheartening to me, as I'm super eager to finally upgrade and enjoy the current generation of games at the best possible quality.
My current setup consists of 2 GTX 970s in SLi. Far from ideal since SLi is dead, and also it is really starting to show its age in new titles at 1440p, however it has served me well for a good few years. Now it comes time make a meaningful upgrade that would be an absolutely massive difference and I can't do it. I haven't been able to for months, and I have been regularly checking stock levels.
The same with a PS5 - where are they? I can't remember any time before where things have been apparently so limited and so inflated in price. This whole period has really bummed me out and made me far less enthusiastic about the whole PC and gaming scene.
It looks like by the time stock returns to some kind of 'normal', if it ever does, then we'll be looking forward to series refreshes or new models, and the whole cycle can start over again.
So when is the end in sight? When can we actually buy some damn hardware? I just can't fathom any more how this awful situation keeps prolonging itself.
Edit: my income isn't a serial flasher that likes to expose itself, I'm gonna blame my mobile keyboard
I think cursing is an element of language that is extremely valuable.
Expressing emotion is one of the biggest factors of language, and sometimes your emotions are so big, regular words just donβt do it. I donβt promote constantly using them, but the fact that these words are taboo make them very influential. I think there should be words like that, so when we use them, thereβs emphasis.
For example, saying βget over here!β Simply doesnβt hold up to βget the fuck over hereβ. It communicates a sense of urgency which would be difficult to express otherwise in a quick and concise phrase.
Of course, thereβs always tone of voice to convey the same things that cursing does. But some of us donβt have that ability.
Personally, I struggle with tone of voice. My voice is flat and monotone, and my facial expressions arenβt very expressive either. My voice is naturally quiet and it gets no ones attention. So cursing, when used sparingly, is a powerful element
Edit- thank you for all of the responses and rewards! I appreciate it all :)
I called the shipping hub for the GameStop stores in my area, and an associate confirmed that gamer PC hardware is coming! That among some other cool details. Another associate from another store confirmed that streaming hardware will be coming first if not already in store, but actual internal components are scheduled when some stores get a new "face" it sounded like she said? I'm guessing the 1.5 tier stores will somehow reface themselves to indicate they are PC gaming oriented stores? Likely regional hubs I'd assume. They adopted a similar shipping and delivery model to Auto Zone and Advance Auto if I recall correctly. Sounds like a moon mission to me! πππππ
I have trimmed the front of the audio file to protect the associate, and beeped our specific location area. Yes I am aware my phone and poor editing skills make me sound 13, but before you shit on me let me ask did you call and post it today? π

Edit: I'm going to trim and edit the audio from at least one other store. Two people noted "faces", but one of them also knew a little about hardware so I'll upload that as well.
Edit #2: Here is the 2nd recording. The reps audio was low, and I am not a sound engineer but I did my best.

Edit #3: can people tweet this @RyanCohen to get some exposure. Of course he can't say much, but the silence will tell all. I'm not the social media type, RC is one of like 6 people I follow but this gaining traction could be huge.
Edit #4: I had a wet dream last night that Ryan Cohen brought John Legere on board. Can you imagine? That dude is wild.
I should also note, someone else posted this rumor. I simply put in a little effort. I did not crack this myself.
Legal note I apparently already need to make, I live in a one-party consent state for telecommunication recording and I will be removing all personal and specific local area references.
So on last night's session, the characters were doing a long rest on a campfire. They start to talk, and soon the subject became magic. The fighter of the group asks the wizard and the ranger why do they say funny words when they do magic (my caster players like to actually say incantations out loud when they cast, which I totally love). The sorcerer just said "saying the spell out loud helps me focus".
But then the wizard came up with this explanation:
"Well, you see. The weave that suffuses the multiverse is somewhat sentient, maybe because of the fact that it's guarded by Mystra. Some even say that Mystra is the Weave. Every sound that exists, every word spoken, vibrates the weave on a certain way. My theory is that the weave has some sort of 'memory' that associates words and sounds with important events. And thus, we harness that memory. "
At this point the Fighter had this face of confusion, so the wizard continued:
"Alright, imagine that there is a huge plague, that is super contagious and is killing a lot of people. And let's say that everytime someone dies, someone says 'Fuck'. When they're about to die, they say fuck, when they see another person die, they say fuck. When they're at the funeral, everyone says fuck. Becausw the word 'fuck' is being used a lot in such an event of death and misery on a massive scale, the weave will asociate the word fuck with death and plague. A couple of centuries later, there may be a wizard that, while researching a new spell, discovers that the common word 'Fuck' evokes a necromatic aura on the weave. And thus, someone can cast a spell by saying Fuck. Or any other word, really."
"so I can make fire magic by saying my name if I cause a wildfire and shout my name a lot?"
"Well... Fire has been used since the dawn of history, so there are a lot of words and sounds to use that evoke fire and heat. But... I suppouse if the wildfire is big enough and enough people shout your name, then your name might become a verbal component for a wildfire spell"
"Hell yeah, let's burn some stuff after this mission"
I have unlocked every single mod in the game as I have played since year 1.
Can we please find a use for them? Or allow us to break them down for weapon telemetries or something.
Thanks!
Yep. Thatβs me right now. They couldnβt have at least included some kind of warning? Or better yet, just donβt allow the player to equip multiple copies of an un-stackable mod? I mean, was it not reasonable of me to assume they stacked just by virtue of being able to equip more than one? Now I have several clothing items with a wasted mod slot. Guess Iβll just make-believe theyβre doing something until I find replacements.
I have max item storage and still find my self in a struggle to balance a healthy amount of each items. However I find my self having to ignore grunts or even Jessie and James because I donβt have item space for the components.
Or if I do battle them I find myself not realizing Iβm out of space and miss out on receiving a component.
I was playing Battlefield 5 today and was getting endlessly angry at all the amount of BS deaths that happen (I sparsely get angry at TF2.) Nearly invisible mines, tanks sniping you, snipers sniping you, insanely fast kill times, guys shooting at you who are made nearly invisible by awful blinding lighting and shading, etc. Not to mention the awful maps with huge sightlines that allow for campy behaviour, among other issues.
My point in this post is it made me really appreciate how great of a game TF2 is because almost every death feels deserved and not the result of bad maps and balancing. In this game there is very little you can't do to predict and outmaneuver opponents. Classes and teams are very well indicated by silhouette and colour, and it's easy to predict which weapons will do what and how to play according to your class and situation against them. It makes TF2 feel much like a tug of war, a game of positioning and methodical tactics in order to catch your enemies mistakes and take advantage of them.
Games like Battlefield feel like a clusterfuck kill farm with no sense of order/strategy beyond having perfect muscle memory, basic awareness, what vehicles to abuse for free kills, and where are good spots to camp out. Fun if you like chaos but no real attractive or compelling gameplay beyond that, and quite frustrating too.
In conclusion, I find TF2 and games like it to be much more enjoyable because it is a better balanced game with better maps, class balance, simple but communicative texturing/lighting, slower gameplay, and provides ample chances for counterplay/retreat as situations provide. The gameplay really does offer a fun and challenging experience for almost any class on both the receiving and sending end of the classes, and provides, through many smart aspects of game design, all the tools to do well in the game.
With the arrival of Optimization station, I think exotic should give some optimization materials as well.
What was it and why? For example: a card with flavor text that ruins immersion.
Title is pretty evident. I believe we should be able to store extra mysterious components when we already have 6. We are obviously able to buy multiple Rocket Radars for coins, so we should be able to get more than one outside of quest rewards. If I defeat 18 grunts I deserve 3 rocket radars.
We needed a fast and pretty grid component for our product, Glide, after growing out of our pretty, but slow one, and we built it with the goal to be open sourced right from the start. This is the first time we're announcing it anywhere. Please take a look, give it a try, and tell us what you think!
https://github.com/glideapps/glide-data-grid/raw/main/features.gif
We implemented the Data Grid using HTML5 Canvas for optimal performance. It has been tested with millions of rows, and we can't wait to get feedback from the larger React community. We know the Data Grid is still very young and we're looking to improve and mature it to support more use cases beyond what our core product needs.
First you need to define your columns:
const columns: GridColumn[] = [
{ title: "Number", width: 100 },
{ title: "Square", width: 100 },
];
Next you need a function which, given column and row indexes, returns a cell to display. Here we have two columns, the first of which shows the index of the row, and the second the square of that number:
function getData([col, row]: readonly [number, number]): GridCell {
let n: number;
if (col === 0) {
n = row;
} else if (col === 1) {
n = row * row;
} else {
throw new Error("This should not happen");
}
return {
kind: GridCellKind.Number,
data: n,
displayData: n.toString(),
allowOverlay: false,
};
}
Now you can use Data Grid:
<DataEditorContainer width={500} height={300}>
<DataEditor getCellContent={getData} columns={columns} rows={1000} />
</DataEditorContainer>
