Hey guys. I'm long time fan of Coil, and tripped to this music dozen times, but always wondered, if they were into it? I'm sure John was a drinker, and i have read somewhere that he was taking mushrooms since young age? Is there any more info about it? Thanks!
Previously posted as a comment but have been meaning to share on here for a while
I read that they had successfully written an album that implements tones to make you vomit in England's Hidden Reverse. I was always curious about this but thought I would never hear it until a friend and I were hanging out one evening and took some mushrooms (not something we often do, more so now and then) and after listening Nocturnal Emission's Spiritflesh I thought Time Machine would be a great record to put on; so we do and realize the art of the sleeves match the colors which were more visually prominent as we listened and the sounds effected our vision and how the drug felt. We got to the third side and this was when everything got deep purple and green and grew more intense until I suddenly froze mid laughing during a conversation and suddenly threw up, all of it the same purple and green, my friend was bummed but suddenly froze too then ran to the washroom, which wasn't normal for him he has a... keep reading on reddit ➡
Nightchannels just opened our first store in PORTLAND OR !We have a wide variety of noise experimental weird cult shirts and records.
Our address is 1627 NE Alberta st #5 portland or 97211 usa
I have been told by more than a few people in the short time we have been open at our NE Alberta location that we remind them of the "Old Portland" in a number of ways. This makes me happy because I've been a dutiful follower of fringe / cult happenings for a long time now both locally, and internationally.. So I'm proud to carry the torch and continue on the conversation. I'm hoping to meet more local artists doing something exceptional and interesting so we can continue evolving the shop and really offer something special that can only be experienced at nightchannels. RIGHT NOW we have COIL records, shirts, AND patches available at the shop. Our records/ tapes are almost ENTIRELY of the noise industrial weird cult genre - We also have a nicely preserved two headed lizard with 5 ta... keep reading on reddit ➡

This sub has been very supportive of our releases in the past and great to be apart of as fans of Coil. We take a lot of inspiration from Coil, the groups members other work and many of their peers more than just musically but in our approach to creating, releasing and providing to those who want to listen and enjoy. With everything going on right now we are offering all our releases as Name Your Price, don't worry about paying just take what you want and enjoy the music.
Never done AMA before, so I'm not sure how it works technical- and moderation-wise, but I've been wondering if there might be any interest in AMA with past Coil members. I'm thinking specifically about longtime collaborators:
(Although it would be equally interesting to "talk" with John Gosling, William Breeze and other people associated with Coil one way or another).
Now, I'm in touch with some people from Drew McDowall's current label and could ask them if he would be interested. As for contacting others bulleted above, they all have their websites (Facebook or otherwise).
What are your thoughts on that, fellow Reddit users/mods?
"They were doing their own thing completely. I remember when we were running the record label Schematic Records, and John Balance reached out to us in a couple of e-mails. We were all like, “Is this for real?” I told my friend Josh, “You know, John Balance just e-mailed us, what do you do with stuff like this?” “We should do something with him because it's kind of ridiculously awesome.” We hanged out with them several times – John, Peter Christopherson, Thighpaulsandra, and the whole crew. Super cool people. They were hugely influential on my work as well as my peers' work."
"I love where they take you musically. Coil made music that can be disturbing and unusual, and you're almost constantly questioning: why were they making these choices? Why were they putting you in this unusual place? I never knew that I could feel like that with music. I was like “Yes, yes! I want more people like this! Why don't people do this?”. This is what music is about. It should take you to these places th... keep reading on reddit ➡
Hey guys! Over the summer I built a PC using a bunch of surplus parts that I had collected over the years from various places. The project was inspired by the aesthetic & lore of the Wardcliff Coil from Destiny 2. Since none of the parts were designed to work together most of the mounts and brackets had to be custom made by hand. I think it turned out pretty neat and wanted to share it with the community. Hope you like it.
Here's a link to some of the pictures:
EDIT: Whoa! Thanks for the platinum, awards & upvotes fellow guardians! Never expect this to blow up or I probably would have taken better pics. Lol. Really glad you guys like the build. I'm honored. Thank you!!!
UPDATE: PC Gamer Interview:
I was just looking up some info about The Lost Highway soundtrack, when I read this:
>On the suggestion of a mutual friend, Lynch recruited Nine Inch Nails frontman and future Oscar winner Trent Reznor—who at the time had only done one soundtrack, 1994’s *Natural Born Killers—*to produce the album, then populated it with alternative stars of the era hand-picked for their commercial as well as their inspirational qualities. (Coil’s John Balance rather bitterly described Lynch’s approach in a 1997 interview, saying, “He wanted David Bowie, he wanted Marilyn Manson, he wanted whoever he could get. He just said, ‘These people are really big. I want this film to be really big.’ He didn’t give a fuck about the integrity.” Apparently, Reznor had pushed for Coil to be included on the soundtrack, only to have its music rejected by Lynch.)

This one sounds even more sketchy than the usual "archive" releases. An anonymous donor? Pass.
Everyone is hyped about the unemployment numbers on Thursday, which will drive us dead red, for sure. But nobody is talking about what happens when the bodies start stacking up in New York, Louisiana, and Florida. The Market Fear tanked this market two weeks ago, the Jobs Fear is going to tank it again this week, but in two weeks, the real Fear is going to drive us down to numbers nobody was willing to accept as possible.
Just got to sit down and re-watch all the cutscenes for the Binding/Second/Final Coil of Bahamut and oh man even though the voice acting wasn’t the best, the story and music were so damn epic. Had goosebumps all over me when “Answers” dropped. I’m completely in awe
I found two books about Coil in PDF format on the publisher's site. I'm not sure this is 100% intentional on their part, but it is on their site, so .... They're also out of print otherwise.
Coil has a lot of lyrics that are hard to decipher, so i thought it could be a good idea to make a place where we could discuss that and talk about it together! Everyone can give their own interpretations/explanations.
Its funny to imagine Coil walking around IRL splitting realities just so he could ask out his crush and see what happened.
