Is The Cloverfield Paradox a good movie to watch?

It doesn’t do too hot on Rotten Tomatoes and other rating sites but those ratings are usually biased so I want to get some opinions. I’ve read that it’s kind of the black sheep of the franchise (which I didn’t know there was one) in that the ending was unsatisfactory and boring etc. What are your thoughts?

Can someone help me understand why The Cloverfield Paradox is perceived negatively?

I actually liked the movie and loved what it did with alternate reality. I also loved its' conclusion and thought the horror of it all was gripping and entertaining. Why did it get bad reviews? Did people who weren't already invested in the story and lore hate how convoluted it was? Or do fans invested in this series hate it as well?

How come 'The Little Prince' and 'The Cloverfield Paradox' are getting Blu-ray releases but not 'Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle'? And what do you think this means for 'Wish Dragon'?

As you know, The Little Prince and The Cloverfield Paradox were originally going to be released in cinemas by Paramount, but ended up heading to Netflix instead. Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle also suffered a same fate as it was going to be released in cinemas by Warner Brothers until Netflix picked it up. Somehow, however, Paramount has released The Little Prince and The Cloverfield Paradox on Blu-ray, or at least is planning to do since the former comes out on home media next month. Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, on the other hand, is still stuck at Netflix with no sign of home media release. Why is that? How come Paramount releases that went to Netflix eventually got Blu-ray release by Paramount while Warner Brothers release that went to Netflix still hasn't been released on Blu-ray by Warner Brothers? Were they going for different contract clauses(?) of sorts?

And this also brings up a question of Wish Dragon, an animated film that is planned for a Netflix release despite being made by Sony Pictures Animation. Given examples of The Little Prince and The Cloverfield Paradox on one side and Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle on the other side, what do you think will happen to Wish Dragon? Do you think this film will ever be released on home media like Blu-ray? Why or why not?

Why do people hate cloverfield paradox? I liked it.

My dad and I watched and enjoyed the first 2 cloverfield films and so a couple years ago when paradox was released following the Super Bowl we of course stayed up until 1 am watching it we both enjoyed it a lot. But I’ve seen online so many people crapping all over it and I want to understand why people seem to hate the hell out of this movie.

Boozy Confession: I kind of like The Cloverfield Paradox

Wait, before you push me off on an ice floe, hear me out...

I know it’s Sunshine for dumb people. I know it’s the result of putting 4 spec scripts for the Twilight Zone in a blender, setting it on high and paying an intern to paste the pieces back together. I know it’s not more than the sum of its parts, butβ€” god help meβ€” I like most of its parts.

It’s pulpy sci-fi that’s more interested in what’s fun than what’s realistic. Unlike another unnamed sci-fi blockbuster about a likely doomed space mission to save a dying earth, TCP doesn’t get bogged down in its own self importance. It knows it’s here to posit a couple ideas, have a few exciting moments, and send you home having been distracted from your problems for 110 minutes.

It’s a movie that puts a cool idea for a scene over what makes the most literal, logical sense. Sometimes it doesn’t work, but sometimes you get a Russian guy puking worms or Elizabeth Dibecki showing up in the walls of a space station. What other big budget space movie would have a random ten minute subplot about a sentient arm from another dimension? I even love the absurd, Halloween III: Season of the Witch-inspired ending that makes absolutely no sense.

The movie looks great. It’s a fun, colorful ship with nice costumes by Colleen Atwood and great cinematography from Dan Mindel. The score by Bear McReary fucking RIPS. (Seriously, just listen to this.) And the cast is absolutely stacked.

Gugu is great. Her final speech actually makes me tear up, not because it’s particularly earned but because she’s that good. Chris O’Dowd is charming as all get out. You’ve got a sort of character actor Olympics rounding out the rest of the cast. Even if they don’t have much to do it’s just nice to see such quality actors on screen.

I know it’s not a masterpiece. I know it’s not even as good as the other two Cloverfields. But this movie deserves a little bit of love because of Miss M’Batha-Raw and because it took (in my opinion at least) an unjustified dunking upon its release and has been doomed to the recesses of the netflix back catalog ever since.

This is my Jerry MaGuire moment where I hold a goldfish and desperately ask β€œWho’s with me?”

Any thoughts on these two Twitter accounts - both joined in May 2020 with one being tied to Cloverfield Paradox (Mark Stambler) and the other with parafFUN?

Hi all, I didn't know where to post this (new thread or in the Megathread), but I didn't see any information on this yet, so I created a new thread.

I've been watching "Inside A Mind" YouTube videos on Cloverfield (refreshing my memory of the timelines and story) and came across the discussion about The Cloverfield Paradox movie (the 5th or so video in the series on the channel).

In that video they show a screen shot of the movie where Mark Stambler is talking to the news and show a Twitter handle: @Paradox_Is_Real Unfortunately this doesn't have any posts, BUT there is another Twitter handle for Mark Stambler: @TheMarkStambler

This Twitter profile says it joined Twitter in May 2020 with one tweet of cryptic text. It's also following another Twitter account called ParaWaxEmployee: @ParaWaxEmployee that also joined in May 2020 with a few tweets of cryptic text and the profile picture is of the parafFUN logo. Previous theories are that the next movie would be about one of the last remaining subsidiaries of Tagruato: ParafFUN or Yoshida Medical Research.

Initial thoughts are it's probably nothing; don't want to get my hopes up. But if the text can be decrypted, maybe it's something. Some of the text doesn't look like familiar ciphers, but maybe it's worth a try.

Anyway, I thought this was interesting and wanted to share (since the Twitter handle for Mark has been linked to the Cloverfield franchise/ARG in the past). I just stumbled upon this subreddit from watching the videos and wanted to send this your way.

The more I watch The Cloverfield Paradox the more it angers me

Is there anyone on this sub who actually likes this movie? Listen - the Cloververse is something I hold very dear to my heart. It’s my favorite cinematic universe and the first two movies are among my favorite films of all time. But am I the only one who thinks that Paradox completely ruined the mystery and artistry of the Cloverfield license? There was so much potential here - creating unrelated sci-fi thrillers with complex ARGs that showcase some connective tissue between them. Now, we just have a B-movie with a bad CGI clover at the end. It’s honestly insulting. And the worst of it is that the Cloverfield license has all but been abandoned by its creators. I hold out hope of course, but things aren’t looking bright for the future unless the fans take the franchise into their own hands. Thoughts?

Cloverfield Paradox Ending?

I did a lot of reading before asking this and couldn’t find an answer so I decided to see if there was a subreddit and sure enough there is. Love this damn community.

Anyways, like I said, couldn’t find it anywhere:

Am I the only one that thinks Hamilton’s pod crashed SMACK into that clover, immediately killing them, thus making the clover appear from the clouds roaring like he did cause he’s pissed that his back hurts now?

I rewatched the scene maybe 12 times now and can’t see a way in which that pod DIDNT hit that big ass clovie. Lmk your thoughts or if I’m just delusional. Thanks y’all.

I'm still really mad about The Cloverfield Paradox

The Cloverfield series was on its way to becoming the great modern "Twilight Zone" movie franchise of our time -- sci-fi horror anthology films with a bit of social commentary, especially 10 Cloverfield Lane, which was heavily inspired by at least one Twilight Zone episode, "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street."

The first two movies are great, but The Cloverfield Paradox is a heavy-handed attempt (mostly producer JJ Abrams' fault in this case, it seems) to connect all three movies with easter eggs and references. Not surprising for an Abrams production, but considering he produced the first two movies too, it was pretty shocking to watch Paradox for the first time and see just how uncreative it was.

Does anyone else think wayy too hard about the Cloverfield series and how it was a potential modern movie Twilight Zone or am I the only one? Do you think they'll ever make a fourth Cloverfield movie? I still think Overlord was supposed to be the fourth movie but Paradox made Bad Robot change its mind...
