While commenting on a thread about Pacific Rim kaiju last night, it ended up swerving more into the topic of Godzilla vs Clover. While I deduced that Godzilla would beat Clover in its "Baby" form, the question of how to beat Clover's adult form was raised. (Post can be found here.)

The Contenders

Clover

Clover in the first Cloverfield film is only in its "baby" form according to director JJ Abrams. It is 70-90 meters (240-300 feet) tall and 365.76 meters (1200 feet) long. Due to the high pressure environment that it lives in under the sea, its skin is extremely thick; this gives it a high resistance to the firearms and artillery used against it during its attack on New York.

As an adult, Clover reaches 1981 meters (6,500 feet) tall. This means it is tall enough to reach the Altostratus and Cumulonimbus clouds in the Stratosphere. Due to the short amount of screen time the Adult Clover receives, its very difficult to give it any feats, though it is safe to assume that as it grew, the thickness of its skin was most likely enhanced. Its sheer size is its main ability in this matchup I would say.

The parasites seen attached to Clover in the film may also be a factor, but more so against the creatures that Godzilla Earth commands, rather than the beast itself.

Godzilla Earth

Godzilla Earth is easier to analyse due to the recorded feats it has.

Firstly, even in its smaller 50 meter (165 feet) tall iteration, it was able to take the brunt of 200 nukes simultaneously, was able to decimate the population of the other kaiju inhabiting Earth including Gigan and Mother, and eventually drove what was left of humanity off their own planet. Jump forward 20,000 years, and Godzilla Earth has reached 300 meters (984 feet) tall. During this time it has also terraformed Earth into its own personal paradise. The flora and fauna have all adapted to its DNA and exist to serve it.

Much like how the parasites live around Clover, the Servum live around Godzilla Earth. They are large draconic creatures that are commonly around 15 meters long. Alongside the Servum is Godzilla Filius, a 50 meter Godzilla born from cells from Godzilla Earth. If Clover has spawned more Clover monsters, Filius and the Servum would be able to engage them while our main two kaiju fight it out. (This is up to you).

Godzilla Earth is also extremely resistant. It takes nearly no damage

I've made this post before but I think it's really interesting and could bring discussion to the Cloverfield 2 movie.

We are watching the recovered footage now owned by the US government of Cloverfield as we can see from the US government trade marks. This means whist the footage is from 2008, we are actually watching it from some point in the future after the attack and the government found the footage, watched it, dissected it and put their trade mark on it.

This also puts into question of where actually are we? Are we watching it from a secret base or are we watching a leak? How far into the future are we?

Fun theory if anyone has anything to add to it!

I know I wouldn't be the first person here to say 10 Cloverfield Lane is something of a hidden gem but I have noticed that it's been omitted in many Top Horror Movies of the 2010s List. Hereditary, The Lighthouse, Doctor Sleep all deserve the praise they get I'm not denying that but I think 10 Cloverfield Lane really got screwed over with its title.

For those of us going in expecting to see the original monster pop up at the end, we were disappointed. For those who wanted a more grounded, indie style ending, they were disappointed too. I actually enjoyed the ending myself but I understand that it's a little out there.

So what are we left with? Honestly the most tense movie I have seen in a long time and it's all thanks to John Goodman's phenomenal performance. I would say Howard is up there with Kathy Bates as the creepiest human villain in a horror movie. He is such a big presence in the movie. The way he talks, the way he conveys his irritation by the clench of his hands and the tightening of his face. We know he's about to lose his shit but we don't know how or when. He even made playing Charades creepy!

This is definitely one of those movies I preferred the second time around, and by judging it as a standalone instead of J.J Abrams slapping a cloverfield name on the cover and wishy-washy explaining how it fits in with the first movie (it doesn't). I know I might be preaching to the choir here but for anyone who didn't watch this movie because they didn't see or enjoy the first one I would highly recommend you give it a go.

So what I’m saying is do you think with the negative reaction they got form cloverfield paradox they will ditch the idea of a blood relative and make those not connected to the main story after all, meaning that cliverfield paradox means nothing. Or are they going to still use that if of expanding the series.

I just realized this awhile ago sadly but the cloverfield monster roar is completely different in this first trailer. This is the very first trailer I saw when I went to see transformers at 13. I just can't believe how creepy and different it sounds. I wonder why they changed it. I love how he sounds in the movie but I was young so I forgot it sounded like this. It gave me chills:).

I know most of you followed the ARG and saw the trailer when you went to see transformers. But how many of you remember the exact day you went to see it?

What was the day like for you? What was it like at the theater? Did you plan to go see the movie? We're you following the ARG in 2007? Just curious to know everyone's memory in 2008 :)

For me I remember hanging out with my cousins and sibling. Then we decided to go see cloverfield because everyone was talking about it. I was excited to see it since watching the trailer when I went to see transformers. I remember going to amc we got the 6 or 7pm showing. The theater was packed and I remember people screaming and cheering. Not sure if i remember people walking out due to feeling nauseous lol.

I went to see it 3 times in theater. I was gonna go a 4th time but my family wanted to see step up 2 instead so we went to see that still worth it though.

The only thing that really bothers me about this movie is how quickly the aliens seemed to have arrived and taken control of the world. The only reference of time we really have is by judging how long Michelle was unconscious after the car accident.

Before she gets in the accident, the world seems to be fine. Then the accident happens, and when she wakes up suddenly the Earth is on its last legs fighting the aliens.

Is the world NOT as far gone as Howard would have her believe when she first woke up? Was the war just getting started and throughout the course of the movie the aliens slowly beat the military back to a point where only small pockets of resistance remain at the end?

I just feel like she wasn't unconscious long enough for the world to have collapsed like it did, seemingly overnight.

I'm a HUGE Cloverfield fan, have been for about 12+ years now. I'm writing a short story/novella and my publisher has been trying to get me to send it for awhile now but I'm hitting some writer's block....

My story has to be unofficially set in the Cloververse, of course, for legal/copyright issues.

The setting of the story is a test group trying out a Slusho-type drink. Everyone thinks it's super innocent, until shit gets real: people are being force-fed more of the drink when they say no, side-effects starts to show, etc. The goal here is to see how many drinks people can handle before it becomes dangerous to consume.

I'd like some input from you guys, though. Of course, I will give full credit and your name will be included in the book if/when it's published if you so request.

I guess what I'm looking for is: any ideas to make it stand out as a Cloververse story? Any facts about Slusho and it's company I should keep in mind while writing? Any ARG info I might wanna keep on stand by for accuracy? Anything that might make the story extra skin-crawly and claustrophobic? Hell, any good title ideas?

I'm not looking to y'all here to write the story for me - I have the first rough-draft almost finished, a shit-ton of notes, and highlighted articles on the movies and their trivia (just in case I notice some little facts I can throw in or use as plot points). I also have a list of potential titles. But I don't trust my eye to be the only one in a universe this detailed, and I want to be thorough. You guys catch a lot of small things I didn't pick up on before skimming these boards. It's a dedicated fanbase, that's for sure. So I'd love it if I could get some advice and ideas from you guys in contributing to a universe so beloved and complex and unifying :)

I’ve been rewatching some Godzilla movies recently in the build-up to Godzilla vs. Kong next month, and I finally got round to watching Shin Godzilla. Since then, I can’t help but get out of my head what an excellent template (of sorts) that would make for the Cloverfield sequel.

For those unfamiliar with the movie (and I really recommend watching it), what’s unique about it is how unconventional the protagonists are. While there is an arguable main character, in the form Rando Yaguchi, he’s only a small part of the focus, which is instead on the government and military as a whole. Every time a new development happens, we see the Japanese leadership scrambling to react and come up with plans, and it gives the whole thing this fantastic sense of realism.

Seeing as the recent announcement specified the sequel probably won’t be found footage again, I feel like this would be a good next evolution for the story, maintaining the groundedness that Hud’s video gave the original while expanding the scope in a way sequels often do. It would also enable them to factor in the backstory with Tagruato in a natural way, as it would make sense the government would be doing everything to find out where these monsters are coming from and why (assuming this movie features a new attack.)

As a related aside, I also feel like Toho were probably influenced a little by Cloverfield, in a nice full circle, as interspersed throughout Shin Godzilla are lots of found footage clips that seriously gave me Cloverfield vibes.

Anyway, there’s my ramble for the day, figure I’d see what everyone else thinks.
