🔥 my buddy found a cicada molting.
After years of living underground, this big guy finally emerged and made his appearance into adulthood! I can't believe I was able to watch the molting process from beginning to end. Hope y'all enjoy! This is a Cicada or Cicadoidea. Photos taken by me in Central Alabama, USA
Cicada just minutes after molting
For 36 years I only ever saw shells but today, I saw a cicada molting.
This is a Cicada, a bug native to North America. They are known for emerging only once in a decade and a half, usually about 13-17 years. They have puzzled scientists since it has been found that they only emerge after a prime number of years.
Might be a bit strange but I’ve started collecting cicada shells when I go on walks, makes them a bit more interesting to see how many shells you can find

Just wanted to share this cool photo of a cicada I found at work with the McDonald’s logo
No ID needed. Just sharing this cool teenage cicada who showed up at my door.
I saved my husband from a cicada
TL;DR: my husband had to call me to save him from a cicada that was aggressively guarding our back door.
A little background before yall think my husband is a wuss:
My husband (31M) is from the south side of Chicago. He grew up mostly in apartments. He spent a lot of his childhood outside, but always at the basketball courts and riding bikes around the neighborhood. Growing up in the city, he never spent much time near wooded areas, so his exposure to nature (and its bug friends) was pretty limited.
I (28F) grew up in a southern Indiana town as a stereotypical tomboy daddy's girl. We lived in an old farmhouse with property to maintain, so from a young age, my older brother and I were always out in the yard and the surrounding woods. We encountered all types of critters. My dad was big on making sure we could identify certain insects, plants, and animals, especially to ensure our own safety. So for me, bugs aren't super alarming or scary.
Back to my husband: let me give a brief phys

Not the best picture because I didn't wanna get too close but this giant hornet is gripping the screw to savagely murder that cicada.
Someone suggested I post these here, these are my cicada shells
Filmed and photographed this cicada, in Japan, for about 2 hours last night. It was an interesting show, right at my front door.
Circadian rhythm is actually a misspelling of Cicadian rhythm. There are tiny Cicadas in our heads that play drums at different volumes to control our energy levels
My ex-assassin gal, Cicada! I haven't worked out her entire backstory yet, but I did get her ref done, so I'm not a complete failure, lol. Feel free to ask any questions you have! ^^
I’ve found thousands of cicada shells throughout my childhood but I have never seen one molting until today.
[CONCEPT] Ambient Music Pack, Weeping woods, with tree waving, cicadas and bird chirps. The Ocean, just sounds of waves and the occasional boat horn. And Team Rumble, distant shooting, and foot steps.
A Cicada lives underground, molting 4 times, growing wings, before emerging 17 years later. It only lives for 6 weeks, molting one last time, before dying. This insect might be older than you.
First Cicada I've ever seen. Pretty much a frog with wings
have any of yall had luck with annual cicadas in captivity? not breeding or anything, i just keep finding disabled ones (this one has deformed wings and legs) and id like to keep them from starving to death. id let him go but he cant fly, so he wont even make it out of my yard before a bird gets him
Are there cicadas, crickets, or other noisy insects where you live?
Here are two cicadas I found at the construction site I work at in central Florida. Please id them for me pls.
Happened upon this super fresh cicada today

What do cicadas and partygoers in Collegetown share in common?
They need to shut up when people are trying to sleep.
I lowkey want a cicada mask just so i could wear even after this virus ends. Just me? I'll leave

So last night I was up late watching the Kenosha streams and out of nowhere I hear a loud knock on my patio door and I look out and there’s a big dead ass belly up cicada laying on my patio.
Maybe 30 minutes later, it happens again. Except an even bigger one did it this time! I got bodies piling up out there!
Is this normal? Are cicadas always flying head first into doors or is someone throwing cicadas at me? Lol
My back patio door has become a cicada parking lot!
When do these blasted cicadas finally die off?
I’ve got tinnitus, and even with ear plugs I can’t be outside in the evenings because of the cicadas. I can’t go for a walk or go camping because the cicadas are so dang horny for other cicadas and won’t shut up. Have you experienced the special hell that is wearing a face mask, earplugs, hearing your breath vibrate through the plugs with the thud thud thud of your steps vibrating your skull and still the cicadas get through with that shrill pulse drone?
Yeah. How much longer are these lovey creatures around? This is my first summer in the Midwest and so far not a fan.
Anyone feel like the cicadas are extra loud tonight?
I know this is a cicada but what is that stinger? Spain
Only female Bee's, Wasps, Ants and Hornets can sting. So even tho this male Cicada Killer is trying.. he's totally harmless. v.redd.it/vybvfri89tg51
How bad was the ‘04 Cicada Brood?
The once every 17 cicada mega brood is coming in 2021 and I wasn’t around here in ‘04. How bad was it? Any pics or videos you could share? (Crazy to think, phones didn’t even typically have the capability to shoot video back then.)
Anything I should do to prepare?
