Theoretically, ice cream shouldn't melt if you're standing outside and it's below 0 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit).

Gulab Jamun (British Indian Restaurant and authentic Style)

Make one of India’s most cherished festival desserts, gulab jamun. These fried dumplings are scented with cardamom and steeped in rose and saffron syrup

## Videohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-u20r8ZN-Kc&list=PLlXT352HDbitSaqZbTU2MZnfWswbqBmTK

## Ingredients

If using full fat milk powder:

  • 1 cup of full fat milk powder
  • 1/2 a cup (70g) of plain flour
  • 1/4 of a teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/4 of a teaspoon of cardamom powder
  • 1 teaspoon of ghee or butter
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons of milk (approximately)

If using a can of condensed milk:

  • 1 can (400g) of condensed milk
  • 2 cups (280g) of plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons of melted ghee or butter
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/4 of a teaspoon of cardamom powder

For the syrup you’ll also need:

  • 3 cups (600g) of sugar
  • 3 cups (750ml) of water
  • 8 cracked cardamom pods
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of cardamom powder
  • 1/4 of a teaspoon of saffron
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1.5 teaspoons of rose water

## Method

To make the gulab jamun:

If using powdered milk:

  1. start by adding the powdered milk, flour, baking powder and cardamom powder to a bowl and mixing through thoroughly
  2. add in the melted ghee and incorporate to form a breadcrumb type mix
  3. mix the lemon juice and milk together and then slowly incorporate into the mix a little at a time until you create a dough that is pliable but doesn’t stick to your hands

If using condensed milk:

  1. add the flour, baking powder and cardamom powder to a bowl and mix through

  2. add in the melted ghee and incorporate to form a breadcrumb type mix

  3. tip in the condensed milk and then slowly incorporate until you create a dough that is pliable but doesn’t stick to your hands. You may need to add more flour a teaspoon at a time if it’s still sticky

  4. once your dough is ready make a long sausage shape, cut it in half, then cut each of those pieces in half another 3 times to end up with 16 roughly identical size pieces of dough

  5. take a piece and roll it between the palms of your hand to create a soft, round shiny ball. It should have a glossy and slightly oily surface so it wont stick to your plate. Make all of the balls the same way and set aside. Make sure the balls are smooth with no cracks in the surface, this could let in oil and make them crack

Slutty Brownies!

So anyone having a diet going on? Don't blame me if you gonna bake this. I know this may sound like a LOT when you read the ingredients, but I made this in a 25 by 20CM pan, and I wanted to share it with some friends and family. So cut this in half, or 25% less, but make sure, you get thick layers. It is really important to get thick layers.

A video recipeif anyone's interested

Recipe :

Cookie layer :

- 240gr choco chips

- 420gr flour

- 340gr butter

- 3 eggs

- 200gr brown sugar

- 200gr white sugar

Melt the butter and add it to a bowl. Add the white+brown sugar to it, give it a good mix, until combined nicely. Add some vanilla essence depending on your taste, 4 eggs and mix it again. Make sure the butter is not hot, we don't want to cook the eggs.

Add the flour, pinch of salt and mix it. Scrape the edges mix, add chocolate chips and mix it again with the hand mixer or spatula. Rest in the fridge for half an hour to 1 hour.

Oreos for Oreo layer.

Brownie layer:

- 225gr butter

- 350gr melted chocolate

- 4 eggs

- 200gr white sugar

- 200gr brown sugar

- 90gr flour

- 50gr cacao

On top of 4 eggs, add white and brown sugar give it a mix. Melt the butter, make sure is hot, and add the chocolate in it. Make sure you cut your chocolate as small as you can. After you put the chocolate in the hot butter, cover it with a plate for around 1 minute. Not more than 1 minute. Then take a spatula and mix slowly. It should melt pretty easy and combine nicely.

Also make sure to have the chocolate around room temp and not cold from the fridge. Now on that mixture of eggs + sugar, add some vanilla and pistachio or almond essence, and the melted chocolate with the butter. Give it a mix, add your flour and cocoa powder and mix it again.

Align a baking sheet on your baking pan that's already greased with the non stick spray or a little butter. You do this if you want nice edges, it helps the baking sheet to stick better to the pan. Add the cookie mixture first, use a spatula to even it out on the pan, add Oreos on top of it, and then add the brownie mixture.

Cook for around 50 minutes at 180 degree Celsius without fan. NO MORE THAN 50 minutes.

You can't do any test to be sure if this is cooked trough or not. At any time you gonna try to put a toothpick in it to check it is gonna come out with a lot of melted chocolate on it. If the top started to crack that means is cooked. And don't worry, the brow

[KD] The 17-year-old girl was observed talking to a stranger in a car. The following morning, she was found with her underpants down and with large damages to her head, 400m from her home. Who killed Birgitte Tengs? [Norway, 1995]

The Birgitte case is one of Norway's most discussed cases. The case is still ongoing, and the last thing that happened regarding the case was in August 2020. This case has gone through all of the courts in Norway and has even gone as far as the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. There have been written a book about this case, as well as a documentary and a podcast.

Birgitte Tengs was born in March 1978. She grew up as an only child and had blonde, curly hair. She loved animals and cared for them, regardless of their size. Her father told a story about when they had to drive to the shore to safely place an ant they found on their boat. There is a lot of words that are used to describe Birgitte. She was adored by everyone around her. She was very bubbly, always in a good mood, and liked to get to know people. She loved going to school and loved to learn. She used to sing all the time and had a good singing voice.

The famous picture of Birgitte. This image was used in every article and every news program. She is wearing Norway's national costume, Bunad.

She lived outside a town called Kopervik, located on Karmøy outside the city of Stavanger. At the time, Kopervik was known to be a rough place. The town was filled with fishermen and seafarers who often spoke from the liver (being very blunt, just saying it as it is). On the weekends, there were a lot of teenagers in the streets in the town center. People were fighting and yelling, and there were people being beaten up. Most of the alcohol that these teenagers could get a hold of was strong moonshine. The town was also the place for one of Norway's biggest marijuana cases, where 60kg was seized.

The night of the murder

The 5th of May 1995 started out as a normal day. It was a cloudy day with only 7 degrees celsius. At around 7:00 PM Birgitte walked from her house to where her friend Mona lived. After staying at Mona for about an hour, the two girls started walking towards Kopervik at around 8:00 PM. They walked down the road called Gamle Sundveg. Along this road, they [walked](https://imgur.com/a/L

Benevolent Evil (Chapter 9) New friends

Start of the Book (First Chapter)

Previous Chapter

Next Chapter

At the dawn of the sixth day since the summoning, we approached our destination, the tall trees growing ever sparser around us.

Reglen insisted we do not camp for the previous night, instead urging for us to march onward. What presented no problem to me, though I was worried about how the old man would handle it.

However, it turned out I needed not to worry, as his steps were steadfast as ever. The only old part about him seemed to be his face.

With the first light of the day, we both took a deep breath.

The early morning sun warming Reglen's cheeks while the low mist was rapidly dissipating all around us. The smell of fresh moist grass permeating my senses, me not having a nose to sniff out the air irrelevant.

"Niilo… I bloody do not want you to freak out the others. This situation..."-the old man shrugged his shoulder, leaning the bodyweight ever more to his left leg—reluctant brown eyes of his looking at me with a serious undertone.

I snorted, or at least I tried, but it came out as a dull roar. Again, not having the nostrils does that to you

" Of course... but they already know you went away to summon a demon. What do they expect you will return with? A dog? I doubt they didn't figure out the demon summoning, brings forth a fricking demon?"

"True..."-Reglen casually started walking away from me-" yet, you still better stay here until I can tell them the damn summoning truly worked."-the Zekulja following loyally behind him.

The clear morning sky somehow made the entire scene seem idyllic… this world had many shortcomings, but a lack of absolutely stunning and preserved nature was not one of them.

"Alright, alright…"-I conceded relatively easily, not being that much of an idiot to simply strode unannounced into the camp full of armed men. Also willing to give the man some space, after that 'breakdown' he had.

"And if possible, please stay around here so I can find you later… understood?"-that was the most prominent part of this entire plan of his on how to 'introduce' me to his group.

"I am demon… not dumb."-was my 'witty' response to the man's slowly fading figure.

"That is debatable."-he scoffed-" A blind man see

Context: We make homemade ice cream every New Years and the salty ice water slurry that’s left over is about 4 degrees Fahrenheit (-15 degrees Celsius). Jackilynn- “Sure, I guess. My name is Jackilynn Ornett. I’m 18 and I’m from the Europe region of Earth but I’ve moved to Credillia in the Kepler System. Respect Ambush Bug (DC Comics, Post Crisis)

Ambush Bug is a DC Comics character who started out as a Superman antagonist. He used a high-tech costume and hundreds of mechanical insects to teleport around and cause chaos in Metropolis for Superman and the Doom Patrol. A few comics later, he got his own mini-series, and started to be written as more of a semi-heroic goofball rather than the villain he was in his first appearance. He frequently breaks the 4th wall, and his comics almost feel more like MAD Magazine rather than any other conventional superhero comic. Armed with his teleporting costume, cartoonish durability and never ending humor, he is an asset to whatever team he finds himself on, whether it be the Suicide Squad, the Doom Patrol or even sometimes the Justice League.

An unknown person canceled the daily dinner-delivery from a nursing home. The following day the 94-year old was found strangled and tied in her own bed. Who killed Laura Birkeland? [Norway, 1991]

Please note that some images in this write-up may be distressing to some people. All images are SFW. This post is long but includes a lot of details.

Laura Birkeland was a 94-year old woman who lived with her 26-year old grandnephew Kjetil Birkeland. They lived in a white house in a neighborhood called Solbakken in the town of Molde, Norway. Kjetil lived on the second floor and paid low rent in exchange for helping his aunt around the house. Laura was described as an "anonymous" person, that kept mostly to herself.

Pictures of Laura Birkeland: Picture 1 // Picture 2 // Picture 3

Kjetil Birkeland

It's the 28th of December 1991, 4 days after Christmas. It was a windy day outside, and only 8 degrees celsius. Kjetil woke up like any other day and went down to see his aunt. He went into her apartment around 12:35 PM. He found Laura tied and dead in her own bed, and ran to the neighbor to call the police. The police arrive and enter. Inside, they are faced with an apartment that has been thoroughly searched. Every door, drawer, and closet are open. Valuables are missing. No apparent sign of forced entry. In the bedroom, a dead 94-year old, with her hands tied behind her back.

"The victim had no outward signs of violence. The cause of death is unknown, but the case is being investigated as a suspicious death" - Grete Sæter with Romsdal police department / 29.12.1991

The police spend the Saturday talking to around 30 neighbors. Two of the neighbors had seen something. One of them saw Laura through a window at around 11 PM. This meant that Laura was killed between the 27th of December at 11 PM and the 28th of December at 12:35 PM. The second sighting didn't become important until later in the case (further down). The autopsy of Laura showed the cause of death: strangulation.

On the evening of Sunday 29th of December, Kjetil Birkeland and a friend of his was arrested and

"Are you quite mad?" Valentine demanded.

We were back in the lobby, where she sat in my lap, dabbing at my skin with a restaurant napkin. A pair of castings on her part, Earth Movement for the glass, and Water Movement for the wine had cleaned up the mess, but there were still spots of blood on my face and arms where tiny flying shards had cut me.

I ruffled her hair, "Come on," I said warmly, "It'll be fine. I think it's clear what happened. We used Water, Transform, and Movement. The Water part, that worked out, the magic affected what we wanted it to. It just didn't do quite what we intended."

Val pawed at my arm, "My hair is messy enough! And I notice you're using 'we' a great deal. I seem to believe the spell was your idea."

"Yeah, but you were supervising," I replied flippantly, "Transform, I think that's clear. The water was transmuted into wine, and the wine into water. Movement, well it's like you said, Movement can make things explode. Which it did."

She pulled the napkin away from my cheek, the glossy white fabric dotted with patches of blood. Val held it clutched in her dainty little fist and shook it at me, "And you want to try it again? Gods Wallace, I can teach you something else, anything else."

I gently took the napkin and set it on the table beside the loveseat. Meant for two, it was just about large enough to be comfortable for me, though that didn't leave much room for Valentine. Not that I minded having her sitting in my lap.

"This is something else," I urged her gently, "Same goal, different method. We- or I -replace Transform and Movement with Communicate. The luggage carts," I gestured to where one sat empty by the elevators, "have all the brass we'd need. We'd keep it simple, only trying to move the heat from a bottle of wine to a cup of water."

Val's brows furrowed, "Communicate?"

I spread my hands, "Very little chance of anything exploding," I said brightly, "And I think it might even do the job better than Control would."

Val frowned and put a finger to her lips, "You want to make the wine talk to the water, and give it some of its warmth? Do I understand your inscrutable thought process?"

"Just think about it, there's a whole magical verb

#Picks Of The Week (u/lefuniname has a long one for us, so strap in)

####1. MUZZ - The Promised Land LP [Monstercat]

Recommended if you like: Pendulum, Knife Party, Delta Heavy, Pendulum again

A few months ago I shared my thoughts about the first single of MUZZ’s debut album. I said if he keeps the quality of Nemesis up for the whole runtime of the album, it was going to be an absolutely huge one. You know what? He did it.

Over the course of the last few months he released single after single, every two weeks, like clockwork. With each new single I was waiting for the inevitable bad single or just any kind of dip in quality, because I usually just don’t expect perfect albums. My “this has to become worse at some point” expectations were not met though. He just kept smashing out banger after banger. It was actually really hard to not pick his single releases for the Picks Of The Week every time a new one was dropped.

Somehow that wasn’t perfect enough for him though, he took the whole thing up another notch. Last Tuesday, two days before the full album release, he premiered the full album with a full live band rendition of all the songs on it. My mind was blown the whole way through, every single song sounded even better with the live band. But let’s just not get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s talk about the album.

As expected, the album starts off with a bang and that bang’s name is Nemesis. With the intro track Valhalla setting the mood just before, the first single’s incredible intro becomes even better. It’s the perfect mix between Pendulum and Knife Party, with more aggressive guitars. The computer generated voice, the dubstep-y pewpew’s, the whole rock dnb aesthetic. It’s so so good. The followup Start Again, featuring uncredited singer Richard Hutchinson, who you might recognize from MUZZ’s Lost Forever, switches gears to a more half-time vibe. Not drum and bass (won’t be the last time either), but still very enjo

Entitled mother things I can change the price of products.

Hello, this is my second post here and I’m still angry about it because it happened like 30 minutes ago.

First of all a bit of context: I’m a 15 year old male that lives in a medium wealth area of the north of Mexico, so English is no my first language. As I said in other post on other communities my parents have a small ice cream shop where we sell ice popsicles, ice cream, snacks, etc. We are having strong heats here on the north and we are having a bit more customers because of that.

We are not the only ice cream shop here, there are another 2. They are from bigger companies and have lower prices because the quality is lower and the products they sell aren’t natural as the ones we produce and sell. Luckily this ice cream shops are closed due to covid.

Last thing is that our main employee, I’ll call him Alfred, woke yesterday without taste or smell and we decided to let him rest due to suspicions of Covid. We have more employees because of this cases but the one that came to replace Alfred is a bit green. I don’t work on the Ice cream shop but I tend to help.

The story:

As I said this happened today. My father went to work and wasn’t in the house and my mother was on an online call from the school she works in and it took more time than what she had expected.

I suddenly hear screaming from the ice cream shop and I noticed it was the voice of a woman. My mother, still on her call, asked me to go check out what was happening. (Our main business is directly conectes to our house) I go outside and found the employee, we’ll call him Amador (Yeah, that’s his name) in shock with a woman shouting at him.

Conversation:

Me: Sorry, why are you shouting at my employee?

Woman: He is refusing to use wholesale prices.

(We have wholesale prices because we also sell to parties and other small businesses. Over 20 products is the wholesale price)

Me: Amador, what’s the matter?

Amador: She wants wholesale price.

Me: Yeah, I know. How many is she ordering?

Amador: 15 ice popsicles.

Me: Sorry, but wholesale prices are taken on orders from 20 products and up, and please don’t scream at my employee because I’m in all my right to don’t serve you.

(Something my father has taught me is that I need to be direct and don’t try to comply to all at the cost of our employees.)

W: You are not even the owner of the business.

I noticed something at this point and it’s the fact she left her Audi Q fucking 8 off with her children inside with 34 Celsius (93.2 Fahrenheit). S

Trip report: Rome + Milan

Hi all,

I just got back from a week in Italy, where I spent 4 days in Rome and a day in Milan.

I ended up flying into Milan from London and then catching a train to Rome. This was due to flight prices and availability as a result of the last-minute nature of my trip.

Getting through security in both airports was quick and painless. I suspect this is because there are fewer travellers ~ a common theme on this trip.

On arrival in Milan, I had to fill out a piece of paper listing the details of the trip (e.g. address of accommodation etc.) for COVID. I took the Malpensa express into the city centre of Milan, which takes around an hour.

From there, I took a Frecciarossa Express train down to Rome. This took around 3 hours. It was a comfortable journey down where there were many empty seats. I had all four seats and a table for myself. You are asked to wear a mask for the whole journey. They provided a pack (gloves, mask, sanitiser, water etc.) on the train.

Rome

Accommodation

I stayed in an Air-BnB in Trastevere for the duration of the trip. The restaurants were operating and there was some nightlife (people hanging around, buskers etc.). It took about 15-30 mins to get into the city centre on foot, depending on where I was trying to get to. Generally, public transport was not that convenient from where I stayed. I did get two Ubers when I was worried I was going to be late (i.e. the first tour and the train back to Milan).

If I went again, I think I would try to stay in Monti. Currently, you can get some good deals accommodation wise.

Weather

The weather in Rome is very warm. It reached mid-thirties (Celsius) every day by noon. This meant I was always wearing short and a t-shirt. It also meant I was drenched in sweat from all the walking. It stayed warm late into the night. Thankfully, I had AC in my flat. There are also mosquitoes, so don't make the mistake of leaving the windows open!

Sights

I did two paid walking tours on two separate days:

  • Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill
  • The Vatican, Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica

There were about 10-15 people on both tours. All the sights were pretty light on tourists and there wasn't much of a wait to get into any of the sights. As an anecdotal comparison, our tour guide said usually there would be 40 tour groups at the meeting spot before our Vatican tour. We were the only tour group there.

As a result, it was an amazing experience being able to see the sig

My 44-day E2E S2N walk on the Bibbulmun Track in Western Australia, April-June 2019

This is kind of a repost of my previous trip report on r/Ultralight, but I'm re-composing it for a local and also more updated context, and to add content to r/UltralightAus.

Introduction

The Bibbulmun Track is a roughly 1000-km walk in Australia's Southwest from Kalamunda (an outer suburb of Perth) to Albany. It can be walked in either direction.

Environment

The terrain you'll walk through is diverse: forests of tingle, karri, marri, and jarrah; trees blackened by fire; grassy pastures, wide plains; roads; beaches; cliffs; hilltops; coastal heath.

You are likely to see kangaroos or wallabies often, a few emus, and depending on the season, snakes are either rare or common. You may encounter a wild pig, although I didn't. You might spot an echidna; I did. Bird life is also everywhere. Notable ones include the kookaburra, fairy blue wren, western rosella, Australian ringneck, and black cockatoo.

Shelters

There are three-sided shelters along the whole Track with picnic tables, rainwater tanks, as well as dunnies (drop toilets) with toilet bowls and sometimes even toilet paper, if the vollies provide it. A few of the shelters, especially the southern ones, have big plastic boxes that you could store food in. Most northern shelters have fire pits and provided jarrah firewood. There are designated camping areas at each shelter, though in my experience, they tend to be poor for non-freestanding tents, i.e. hard, stony surfaces.

My butter success story :)

I had a major disaster last time so I’m glad this went smoothly! A little bit ugly but too soft to clean up properly. Is that gunky stuff worth it or throw it out? It’s still soft enough to push my finger into it.

It’s my first time (successfully) making butter alone! I followed the sidebar infographic almost to the letter.

I started with about 12g of average (for my area) bud and 250g butter. Ended up with about 180g of product. I have no idea how potent my starting material was so I’ve just taken 3g. My only variation from the guide was filtering through a fine mesh strainer instead of cloth, and cooling down in an ice bath to speed up cooling. Oh and I also had my oven at 105 degrees Celsius because it isn’t too good and I was scared it would overheat, but I kept it in the full 27 minutes. I also added MUCH more water because last time I let it all evaporate and keep cooking for a long time....

It is the smoothest most clean tasting butter I’ve ever had! I can’t stand the taste of weed in food at all (but I have only had amateur edibles) and the straight butter makes me gag, but this was like a thick lightly flavoured cream with beautiful dank notes and had a great flavour and mouthfeel :)

Edit album oh and I also didn’t use lecithin because I can’t get a hold of it yet, but will do so soon for sure

The 100 Themed Party

A little late to the final season premiere parties - but I'm holding out for when it drops on Netflix!

Originally I was going to tie this in as a summer birthday theme but ended up not going through with it AFTER I put in the prep work.

So for anyone who might be interested - please feel free to use!!

FOOD makes a party for me - but for decorations I was going to do an outer space theme to balance the 'earth' themed food. I made individual labels for each dish, but I wasn't sure how to attach them all - so here's a link where they should all show up (https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vRg1oIWFjrHCztB-ZIHnEPZDGGsK6PFqSWeuaqFnTqvgpklz97d0-_3r6sGSyhd4hIlK_MQG9YedVWv/pub). But for a text version, here's all the dishes:

Go Float Yourself Ice Cream Floats:
Root Beer
Vanilla Ice Cream
Vanilla Flavored Vodka
Add 2-3 scoops of ice cream to a glass.
Pour halfway up with root beer.
Add a shot of vodka.
Top with root beer to fill the glass.

Monty's Farm Grown Algae Dip (Nori Sour Cream Dip):
1c sour cream
2 packets roasted seaweed snack (~10g)
1 clove garlic, grated
1tsp rice vinegar
1tsp sesame oil
1/2tsp salt
1/2tsp black pepper
1/4tsp sugar
Assorted raw veggies
In a food processor, blitz the sour cream, seaweed snack, garlic, vinegar, sesame oil, salt, pepper, and sugar until smooth.
Taste and adjust for extra seasoning as needed.
Garnish with seaweed snack or shredded nori.

Grounder Potatoes (Molten Mashed Potato Bites):
Total: 4 hr 45 min (includes freezing times) Yield: 8 servings
3/4 cup prepared beef gravy
1 3/4 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
Kosher salt
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup heavy cream
Freshly ground black pepper
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs
3 cups stuffing mix, finely crushed
Vegetable oil, for frying
Divide the gravy among 8 compartments of an ice cube tray (a silicone one is easiest for removal). Freeze until solid, at least 3 hours or overnight.
Line a baking sheet with parchment.
For the mashed potatoes:
Put the potatoes into a medium saucepan, cover with cold water and season with salt.
Bring the water to a simmer and cook until the potatoes are tender, 10 to 15 minutes. Drain the potatoes and mash them or put them through a ricer while still hot.

Trip Report 11 Days in Japan: Tokyo, Kyoto & Osaka ( 18-28 Dec)

This is just a brief recollection of the wonderful trip in Japan. Have been using this sub to add to my itinerary prior the trip and just wanted to share on our experience there. It was my girlfriend (19) & I (20) first trip together and Japan has been mesmerizing. My girlfriend is a Muslim and I am not. We were not strict on finding halal places to have our meals and it was fine as long as there was no pork in our food.

I had just been to Tokyo at the start of the year prior the trip and some experience with the Tokyo metro and places. We're both from Singapore.

Pre-Trip

The weather in japan would be early winter and temperatures was between 6 - 17 degrees celsius.

Our trip was from Singapore to Tokyo (4 Days), Kansai (7 Days), Seoul (5 Days), thus our return flight is not from KIX Airport and is from Seoul. However, the prices are mostly around the same. We took Singapore Airlines (SIA) as it was a night flight which did not need for a layover.
Hotels were booked through Agoda.com and paid in cash at the hotel. We decided to only stay in Osaka and made multiple one-day trips to Nara and Kyoto as suggested by the sub.

We were still studying while planning for this trip and as much as it could've been better, we were pretty worn out with the places and activities we did. Watched countless videos of Japan-Places-To-Go-And-See and also PabloFromTokyo on YouTube. Read through itineraries from this sub and online websites to determine the places we wanted to go.

We read through many of the sub advices regarding the Mario Kart experience and even though it was looked down upon by locals in Japan and many on this sub we still decided to proceed with it anyways\ as it really intrigued our interest and looked like a really interesting activity. We booked the Mario Kart experience from govoyagin.com .

We were on a budget as we were both still students and wanted to make the most of what we could (fiance wise). Most of the activities we did were booked and paid online through klook.sg and we purchased our pocket wifi from changirecommends. Our pocket wifi was free though due to a promo code which glitched the system however later on in the trip the wifi malfunctioned and we had to purchased one in Tokyo.

The following is most of the budget which we planned for:

everything is in SGD & per person

Should I stop being friends with my "bff"? I'm increasingly feeling that he is selfish and stingy.

My (25F) bff (26M) and I had been friends ever since we met each other in a dance club at the start of university. Throughout university, we usually spend about 3 weekdays together for lunch/dinner and dance practices. Some weeks we see each other more because we hang out during the weekends, or when we have additional dance practices. For the 4 years in university, everything seem fine. Nothing super selfish or stingy happened, except for the almost frequent times where he takes my food without asking (to be fair it didnt annoy me back then, my unhappiness only exploded after we went on our graduation trip). Not only does he take my food without asking, a lot of the times, especially after we established that we are bff (which is in year 3), he would often make remarks like "hmm I dont feel like eating dinner today" but when I bought my dinner, he will proceed to eat about 2/5 of my dinner.

Fast forward, we went on grad trip after we graduated. He wanted to go South Korea while I wanted to go Japan. So as a logical person, he said that we should both justify our choices. For him, he says that its because he can speak korean, so if we went korea, he can communicate. For me, I told him I have 0 interest in Korea, but if he is super insistent, I would just follow him to Korea. in the end, he says that since I have 0 interest, he dont mind going to Japan with me, as it would be his first time visiting that country. (bear in mind it is fully his decision, I did not by any means coerced him into doing it)

in Japan, i did not enjoy at all. it was a 10 days trip, and it was the worst 10 days of my life. First of all, 99% of the times when we are travelling about, he is always AHEAD of me. By ahead, I meant 3 to 5 traffic junctions ahead. I took a lot of photos of him walking way ahead of me to show my bf, and when my bf saw the pictures, he couldn't even see my bff at all. Aka, he was walking so ahead that I cant even see him anymore. the thing is, I'm not a slow Walker. but he just walks and walks, and NEVER turn back to check. He is much taller than me and naturally he has longer legs and he doesnt bother checking to see if his travelling partner is right by him.

second, there was this instance when we were travelling from one Airbnb to another, and we were in our luggages. I was with one luggage, 2 handcarry, and one backpack. he was with one luggage and a backpack. It was at night, and as a guy, he feels that he is better with directions, so he volunteere

My PSMF Log - Female / 5'9 / Cat 2 / 26 / Start weight 94.2

Hi guys

So I've read RFL book by Lyle McDonald and decided to give this a go. I know it's pretty extreme but I've been eating like a pig since lock down, it's like I don't care anymore, motivation was all time low, I don't like home workouts (still did them but really inconsistently, same with diet sometimes it was good but then back to junk), I've gained tons of fat and I'm not happy about it.

Plan is to do PSMF for at least 4 weeks (maybe longer depending on how I feel), my birthday is 30th of August, so woul like to feel a bit more comfortable in my own skin by then. Getting back to gym next Saturday (can't wait). After PSMF I will transition into moderate calorie deficit as my end goal is to get back into shape I was in 2018, which was around 69-70kg and I actually was pretty lean which decent amount of muscle.

I started by lowering carbs on 16 July 2020, just because few days prior I stuffed my face so once I decided I'll do PSMF wanted to jump straight on it not giving myself time to talk myself out of it (and this was already after lunch), I didn't weight myself then so not sure what was my weight on that day, therefore, my actual starting weight will be the actual day 1 on the PSMF - 94.2kg. I'm 5'9 and have quite a fair amount of muscle, my BF is 26.5% according to my scales (33ish% on U.S. Army body fat calculation) so cat 2.

Any tips welcome and I'll check in again with progress tomorrow. Just thought this Reddit tracking will keep me accountable.

Day 1 (17.7.2020) - 94.2kg (done with slightly more carbs than planned, all from non-starchy vegetable)

Day 2 (18.7.2020) - 93.4kg [-0.8 / total -0.8kg]

Day 3 (19.7.2020) - 92.1kg [-1.3 / total -2.1kg] - mind blown with this drop, didn't expect it. I understand that this is water weight and glycogen stores depleting but damn this just encourages me to keep going! Also slept like a baby last night, don't remember last time I slept through the night without waking up - last night was the night!

Day 4 (20.7.2020) - 92.1kg [0 / total -2.1kg] - weight is holding steady today, not surprised. Actually woke up really bloated today, anyone else experienced bloating on PSMF (if not I'll just assume it's hormones :D). Weirdly stats on my scales changed from yesterday by slightly reduced fat percentage and increased lean mass percentage and water weight (I know it's not accurate but it has been pretty consistent throughout the year).

Day 5 (21.7.2020) - **

Cautionary tale - how NOT to organize a ride incl car travel

Tl;dr: if you plan a combined tour of "I'll go by car for 1.5h one way to a parking lot and then ride +70km on a hot day", have coffee and water and food in the car and realize that you'll easily need to maintain yourself for a 9 hour roundtrip if you can't find good shops/cafes on the way.

Long version: I have my gravel bike for just 2 months now and 75 km is my longest tour length. I usually start at home at 18 degree Celsius, and we have a rather cool summer in Northern Germany this year. My SO is away in hospital (nothing bad) and I'm alone, so I planned a tour where I needed to take the car for 100km = 1.5h overland to even start the cycling tour. I only had one cup of coffee and some protein before, and only had my two riding bottles 2x750ml and two small snacks onboard. The bike ride was supposed to be around 32km one way with a cafe break with a friend on the turning point. It was 23 to 26 degree Celsius and sunny. I started at 13:00 bc I had to work in the morning and only made it away from the computer at 11:20.

I got super-hungry during the drive already and would have needed a toilet - alas, the one bakery near my parking place had midday break. So I then started undernourished and already pretty dried-out and needing a loo (solved on the way). Then I needed to take two unplanned detours and after 45! km in the pretty open sun, half a snack and less than 500 ml of water, reached the cafe. Had a piece of quiche and ice cream and one cappuccino (they unfortunately had no alc-free beer).

My chamois which often troubles me a little had been very angry with me since km 40 (maybe the heat? and I sooo will get a bike fit soon) and so the way back to the car - thankfully in the straightest possible 30km line - got veeery uncomfortable. I still drank cautiously bc I had forgotten to fill the bottles at the cafe and knew I had no water in the car for the 1.5 drive back home. I was sooo glad when I found the car without problems and then drove home very carefully. The full trip took 9 hours! (incl the cafe break and a phone call with SO when I was back at the car)

There would have been a few shops, tank stops or restaurants on the way, but I have found that when I'm riding, taking a small stop where I would have to secure the bike would take very long from the feel of it - and also, it was getting late, I had no frontlight with me and I absolutely wanted to get to the car at daylight.

Lots of things came together and I'm very glad that it didn't

Cześć! Do you know what are the best Polish ways to cope with the heat?

This week I have another news for you from the Polski Daily website! If you’re interested in learning more about Polish language and culture, you can sign up for weekly newsletters here: polskidaily.eu!

Summer in Poland is usually quite hot, the temperatures vary between 28 and 34 degree celsius in the shade, although last couple of years we even get over 35’C! Poles have great heating systems and radiators at their homes, but not the air conditioning. Nowadays, more and more people plan some space for the AC while setting up their new flats.

So how do we manage with the heat on daily basis? Let’s look at the subject with a wink ;)

  1. Spend your day on the allotment, in the pool, by the grill with a beer. Maybe it won’t help for the heat, but at least you’re gonna have the neighbours and friends to complain to about how hot it is!

  2. Every hour go take a shower, or make yourself a bath. Alternatively, you could keep your feet in the bowl with really cold water!

  3. Check out all of the ice cream places in the city during one weekend – I’m sure it will be pleasant, even if not exactly helpful for the heat ;)

  4. Don’t forget to talk to everyone about the heat and to complain about it – complaining is a big part of Polish tradition and culture! :D

Cheers!

Pissed off Pizza Chef reacts to Twitch streamer destiny

This has got to be one of the worst food takes I ever had the displeasure to hear. I worked as a cook and keyholder for an authentic Neapolitan restaurant for two years. You literally can never, ever, ever compare your fucking extra large shitty five cheese bacon stuffed crust double pepperoni with triple garlic shavings to the beauty, distinctive, hand crafted piece of art that authentic Neapolitan pizza is. There are literal guidelines you need to follow, to even be considered authentic in the Neapolitan food world, this shit is internationally regulated. The restaurant that I worked at didn't even have a freezer for the first year I worked there, until we introduced our homemade gelato ice cream.

You have to maintain a wood-fire oven at about 450 degrees Celsius. That shit is about DOUBLE the temperature your fatass would be cooking your pizza rolls at. The oven is so damn hot, that as soon as you stick your arm in there to toss in a beauty, you will lose most hair on your arm in a fucking instant. My right arm was hairless for two years, so no fucking shit there will be char. If you, for a moment, decide to call this type of pizza burnt one more fucking time, I swear to god Destiny I will spend the next 2 minutes of my life downvoting every damn LSF post I see of you, YOU HAVE BEEN FUCKING WARNED. It's NOT FUCKING BURNT; IT'S A CHAR IT'S A CHAR IT'S A CHAR IT'S A CHAR IT'S A CHAR IT'S A CHAR IT'S A CHAR IT'S A CHAR IT'S A CHAR IT'S A CHAR IT'S A CHAR IT'S A CHAR IT'S A CHAR.

Ran my first sub-90 half marathon

Race Information

  • Name: Lexus LaceUp Orange County Half Marathon
  • Date: 7th September 2019
  • Distance: 13.1 miles
  • Location: Irvine, CA
  • Website: https://laceuprunningseries.com/race-locations/orange-county-2019/
  • Time: 1:28:38

Goals

Goal Description Completed?
A sub-1:30 Yes

Background

In September 2018 I was a totally sedentary and, at 6'1 height, weighed 95kgs (209lbs). I realised I was an alcoholic and stopped drinking. By April 2019 I had dropped about 19kgs (42lbs) and was running 3-4 times a week with one long run (15-17km) on Sundays. After passing the finish line for the London Landmarks half marathon while on a long run, and thinking, “I could do that,” I decided on a whim to enter my first half marathon. I ran this much faster than expected (1:36) at which point I had caught the running bug. See previous post history for more.

Training

I have been training for the Amsterdam Marathon on 20th October by doing the Runners World plan for a sub-3:15 marathon. This peaks at 50-ish miles per week, although I sometimes skipped recovery runs just because.

I am 11 weeks in to a 16 week plan and at this stage it calls for a sub-90 minute half marathon effort, with the implication that if you can’t manage 90 mins over the half then you probably need to scale back your target marathon pace.

Four weeks into the plan, I ran a 10km race in 42 mins. Unfortunately, this was the pace I would have to hold for 21kms to break 90 mins. Not a great sign. But I resolved to plug away at the slow miles and the occasional agonising speed session and pray that it would make a difference.

Two weeks ago I ran a tune-up half marathon. I used it to practice marathon pace under race conditions. I finished this in 96 mins, just behind my old 1/2M PB, but more importantly I felt fresh and like I could have done the course again - instead of collapsing over the line and wheezing for twenty minutes, like I did April. This gave me the courage to really go for sub-90 at my next half marathon.

Injury and other setbacks

The training had felt quite brutal with a lot of early starts so I could squeeze in commutes, work, and four gym sessions a week. I broke up with my girlfriend halfway through the plan. "Oh well, more time for running," I thought. At which point I began to suffer pain along the outside of my ankle that turned out to be peroneal tendonitis. This led to a

Manifesters for Climate Preservation

Hello friends,

It is clear that we have got some astonishingly powerful manifesters in this community.

I am inviting anyone who would like to join me, to band together and affirm that our climate is remaining at a GMSAT of 57° Fahrenheit.

GMSAT = Global Mean Surface Air Temperature

57° F = the Global Mean Surface Air Temperature from the 1950s to 1980s

Here is what I propose:

  1. Share a few of your manifestations to get everyone excited.
  2. Visualize and affirm the following.

Visualizations

Feel free to share images, stories, descriptions of our planet at its most lush, healthy, vibrant, luxuriant. Have a pic of your trip through a particularly verdant part of the Amazon? A mossy riverbank? A vibrant coral reef filled with colorful tropical fish? If you share it here, we can all focus on how good it feels to be on a planet with such healthy and vibrant nature, and wildlife.

Let's also send healing light to the planet itself, our favorite animals, mountains, the oceans, forests, tundras. Our favorite animals. Our favorite insects.

The landmarks, buildings, artworks we love that live on this planet. The people we love who occupy this planet.

Affirmations

feel the gratitude, delight, happiness, relief

The global mean surface air temperature is 14 degrees Celsius.

The global mean surface air temperature is 14 degrees Celsius.

The global mean surface air temperature is 14 degrees Celsius.

The global mean surface air temperature is 14 degrees Celsius.

The global mean surface air temperature is 14 degrees Celsius.

(you can also say 57 degrees Fahrenheit; just be sure to specify Celsius or Fahrenheit)

Other affirmations (feel free to share your own as well):

Our colorful coral reefs are filled with healthy fish and sea creatures.

Our planet has an atmospheric carbon level of 300 ppm.

The Swiss Alps are blanketed with snow and ice.

The islands of the South Pacific are in pristine condition.

I'll go first.

I'm extremely talented at manifesting people. I have manifested countless people from college that I wanted to see, and high school as well, often within hours of wanting to see them.

I also manifested the following celebrities, among others, after thinking intensely about them: Bobbi Brown, Anderson Cooper, Alison Brie, my favorite actor from Sabrina the Teenage Witch x2

I am 24 years old, make $40680, live in Queensland Australia and work as an Administration Assistant

Hey guys! I've been a lurker on Refinery29 and now this community for ages and finally wrote a money diary. I've submitted to R29 because they don't have many Australian MD's but they weren't interested haha. Bit of background - I'm 24 years old, recently got married to my husband (this diary is from the weeks leading up to the marriage), work in Admin/Accounts and have recently graduated from a Diploma in Library and Information Services because I've wanted to work in a library ever since I was little. I'm also nonbinary and use they/them/theirs pronouns.

Note - all amounts are in AUD. Our dollar is currently worth $0.68USD.

***trigger warning*** I have complex PTSD and an eating disorder that I am dealing with and this diary mentions both of those.

I have complex PTSD from multiple/ongoing traumas through child/teen/adulthood and am in therapy and on medication for this. I grew up with a poor single mother and as such I try and keep my expenses down while contributing as much as possible to savings so I don't struggle even on my low wage and have an emergency fund.

Section One: Assets and Debt

Retirement Balance: Approximately $13,000. I’ve only been in full time work since 2016, and in Australia employers are required to contribute 9.5% of your salary if you’re full time (on my current salary, my paychecks say my employer contributes $74.32 each week). I’ve thought about contributing extra but haven’t gotten around to it as the best way for me would be to split the contribution between salary sacrifice (before tax) and after tax contributions, then claiming the after tax contributions on my tax refund at the end of the financial year and...I’m lazy.

Equity if you're a homeowner: LMAO nope.

Savings account balance: $1,200 in a short term account with an average interest rate that I use for gifts/unexpected items like car repairs/treating myself, $12,200 in a long term account with a high interest rate that I try not to touch.

Checking account balance: $400 in my personal account, $3,500 in mine and B’s joint account ($3,000 of this is from B's parents to help with wedding costs). We have a joint account for bills and a car loan in both our names that we both contribute to, but our daily transaction accounts and expenses are kept separate. We’ve thought about completely combining finances, but this is what works for us at the moment.

Graph of my weight loss (10kg in 2 months)

Graph

10kg (22lb)

I've never attempted to lose weight before, and I have also never been particularly overweight. At my highest I was about 81kg and at that point I would class myself as slightly overweight. My goal is to drop down to about 65kg before I start going to the gym to bulk back up to 80kg replacing the fat with muscle. Essentially I want to be sub 15% body fat before I start any kind of bulk. If I had to guess, I would say I started at around 23% body fat, and am currently around 17-18%. Although I could be way off, who knows. This is me currently

These results were attained simply through eating at a deficit. Initially I was eating around 1500 calories a day, however I stopped counting calories after the first month or so. For the first month I wasn't really doing any exercise, and my TDEE was supposedly around 2100 (male, 25, 5'7). I started a rather strenuous job in the second month, and I am guessing that increased my TDEE to around 2500-2600. It has also been 35-40 degrees Celsius constantly where I live in the last month. Any large sudden increases / decreases in weight were probably due to alcohol / water weight fluctuations. I would say I've lost some muscle mass, although I haven't noticed much of a strength difference (granted I don't lift weights, so I don't have much to go on other than my job). I certainly didn't manage anywhere near 0.8g of protein per lb of weight. That was perhaps the most frustrating thing. How hard it is to get 120g+ of protein regularly on 1500 calories.

The diet itself has been relatively pain free. I cut out all chocolate, candy, ice cream ect. I generally only eat lunch and dinner. I also cut back on juice, and completely cut out milk. I found some low calorie snacks such as sorbet, icy poles, grapes and other fruit to make good snacks. I've still eaten out plenty of times. Mcdonalds, pizza, burgers, pasta ect. Just to a lesser extent.

Trying to understand kcal Vs. Cal, help

So I am going to take the plunge of healthy non processed (as low as I can get) meals, this means watching calories to lose weight through CICO while I go to the gym.

So I downloaded Hello Fresh app and it uses kcal and I was trying to figure it out so I looked it up, the net says 1 kcal is 1,000 calories as I understand it... Am I understanding this wrong because in that case... Would that mean a 650.0 kcal meal is then 650,000 calories?

Help me understand this better please because for some reason the way I'm reading this I'm just going straight stupid on it

Reddit's Slay The Spire Run Data Analyzed!

Edit: This blew up pretty big (for me at least). I am going to stop taking requests for searches and answering comments now, as I spent most of today doing so and I need to focus on finals + moving on to another project. All in all I'm happy with how this went and I've come out with a few lessons learned and had a lot of fun while doing so. I think that if I do this again it will be more data focused with less extrapolation and a bit more rigor in how stats will be calculated, but that will be for another time. Thanks to everyone who took the time out to read the post, and thanks again to everyon who submitted runs! - ProdiGG

Hello STS reddit community! I am very excited to say that I have the results of the analytics I had done on your run data. For those unaware, a few weeks ago I asked for your run data here. It took me a little longer than I wanted because of school but I finally have finished it and am ready to share the juicy details. Before I do so however I would like to quickly talk about how this data should be used. If you're intention is to use this data to maximize your win rate, I ask that you please read the next paragraph, however if you're just in it for the memes then you can skip it and move right into the stats.

When looking at these stats (or any stats really), you need to understand the difference between correlation and causation. As an example, did you know that people who floss daily live on average 5 years longer than people who don't? This is actually a true statement, however there is no information that can be extrapolated from it. You cannot then come to the conclusion that if you floss every day you'll add half a decade to your lifespan. The reason that this correlation exists is because people who floss daily on average live healthier lives than people who don't. This is why the people who floss actually live longer. Flossing itself doesn't actually do anything to increase your lifespan at all. So there is a correlation, but one doesn't cause the other. I will try to point out if and when this kind of situation occurs in the stats but know that just because something has a higher win rate doesn't mean you can just increase your win rate by doing whatever that thing is. Additionally, while I have quite a bit of data, this data only came from 30 distinct players. So while the data does have quite a bit of variation and sho

Low temperature freezing ice cream?

If I place 1 ice cream pint in a low temperature freezer at -86 degrees Celsius. How long we'll it take to fully freeze at -30 degrees Celsius? Does anyone know? Even a close average estimate?

Trying to freeze ice cream at -30 degrees Celsius faster if I place it in a much colder freezer.
