Cats hunt down endangered birds and small mammals while they’re outdoors, and have become one of the largest risk to these species due to an over abundance of outdoor domestic cats and feral cats. Please reconsider having an outdoor cat because they are putting many animals onto the endangered list.
Edit to include because people have decided to put their personal feeling towards cats ahead of facts: the American Bird Conservancy has listed outdoor cats as the number one threat to bird species and they have caused about 63 extinctions of birds, mammals, and reptiles. Cats kill about 2.4 billion birds a year. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature lists cats as one of the worlds worst non-native invasive species.
If you want your cat to go outside, put it on a leash with a harness! That way you can monitor your cat and prevent it from hunting anything. Even if you don’t see it happen, they can still kill while you’re not watching them. A bell on their collar does not h... keep reading on reddit ➡
Some people think that declawing is a simple surgery that removes a cats nails, this is not true. Declawing involves amputation of the last bone of each toe, removing claws changes the way a cats foot meets the ground and can cause pain similar to wearing an uncomfortable pair of shoes. There can also be regrowth of improperly removed claws, nerve damage and bone spurs. Most cats will become biters because they no longer have their claws as a defense. Cats scratch to remove dead husks from their claws, mark territory and stretch muscles.
Throw away for obvious reasons. TLDR at the end.
the relevant backstory: I have two daughters, one is 21 and in college, the other is 26 and because of a lot of factors finds herself pregnant, divorcing her husband and needing to live in our house for the foreseeable future and I am happily married to their mother. The other notable character is my cat Lieutenant (we call her Leut). I found Leut in a dumpster almost ten years ago when she was only a week old, got her to the vet and she has been my best buddy for the last decade. She is now my grumpy old little shadow whenever i'm home.
so yesterday I came home from work and I hear my eldest daughter calling me from the kitchen. my wife and eldest then tell me that "Leut is getting old dad, and with the baby coming we didn't think it was safe to keep an old grouchy cat around an infant. So we made the decision today to send Leut to a shelter so that she can find a family that is more in line with what she needs."
I told them b... keep reading on reddit ➡
I probably overreacted. But I was literally walking down the street for a quick break from my desk. He slowed down, and made really gross kissy faces at me and said some gross things. Then he immediately turned into the auto shop he worked at. He was in a company car.
I called the company. They transferred me to the owner. I told him what happened. I said I didn't want anything to happen to his job but he needs to know this isn't okay. He shouldn't do it at all, much less while in a company vehicle.
I honestly do not care if I overreacted. It has to stop somewhere and people need to speak up. So I did. I feel like an asshole but a justified asshole.
Holy smokes. I did not expect this to blow up like this. I love this community so much. I posted this because I felt like I needed support, that I did the right thing. With the exception of a few direct messages calling me a 'piece of shit' for potentially ruining a mans life over a 'kissy' face, the support has been over... keep reading on reddit ➡
TIFU By letting the cat get my wife pregnant
Technically this happened about three weeks ago since the test just came back positive...
Last year my wife and I had our first child. It was a less than ideal pregnancy that had her dealing with weeks of bed rest dude to preeclampsia with severe features. It wrecked total havoc on not only her physical health but her mental heath as well. fortunately everything was all right in the end and she gave birth to our healthy 4lb 2oz boy just shy of two months early (who’s doing fantastic now).
Due to the difficulty of this first pregnancy and concerns over COVID, we decided it was best to put off kid number two for at least a couple of years. She started birth control shortly after giving birth to be sure we had no surprises, but the pill tends to make her very sick and she wanted to lose weight, so she stopped taking it. We thought rubbers would be enough, but that’s where our cat comes in...
Our cat is an evil genius. I... keep reading on reddit ➡
Tl;dr: gf now thinks she is an otherkin, a cat in a human's body and refuses to see anything wrong with the situation. The echo chamber she is now has done nothing but enable her and I don't know what to do.
I know people are going to think I'm either trolling or baiting but please read before you comment + this post has nothing to do with gender or trans issues and I am in no way intending to be offensive or anything.
So Gf and I have been together for nearly 8 months, and she's always been a very quirky and nerdy person: does cosplays, very into anime and roleplaying, etc... Nothing too weird. We've been kinda distant lately with everything going on and me being an essential worker so haven't seen eachother and only talk for half an hour a day. Well, last tuesday we got to hang out at her place and she... keep reading on reddit ➡

Update 5: not sure if anyone still checks this but Loki hadn't been feeling good since around this incident. I took him to the vet and $700 later they advised he had too much gas in his intestine😂😂😂 Typical. Also for those interested in keeping up with him I did make him his own instagram @Loki_the_chonk
Update 4: Caught him gazing into his own reflection, is this how he duped the first time??
Update 3: to be clear, my cat is home safe it was the other UFC(unidentified foreign cat) that got away
Update 2: I realize I fucked up leaving him outside unattended. I'll be building that little shit a catio as recommended!
Update: wow thank you everyone, I'm so glad you enjoyed my big cat debacle 😂. Due to all your sage like wisdom I'm waiting at the docs meow to get it checked! **Just got back from doctors, got a tetanus shot and some antibiotics, thank you everyone!!

Hi all, as my post said, I'm having an issue at my new house where somewhere around 20 cats just roam around outside and do as they please. The leave dead birds in my yard, shit everywhere, and attack my dog.
I've talked to other neighbors and everyone has pointed me to the house right next door. I spoke with the owner and he basically told me that I can't prove they are his, and there isn't shit I can do.
I called my city animal control and they said once covid is over they are willing to help me catch them and take them to a shelter, but if they don't get adopted, they will be returned right back to the area they were found.
I've tried multiple ways of repellant such as citrus smell, coffee grounds, sprinklers, etc. But nothing seems to work.
I'd like to avoid being a cat killer, so please let me know if anyone has any suggestions for how to deal with this issue.
Cat facial expressions are a lot different from ours. Remember, they haven't gone through nearly as much selective breeding as dogs to be perfect companions to humans, so it's harder for us to relate to and interpret them. And all too often with cats, our assumptions are the opposite of reality.
Cats will only let their eyes rest in that half-closed position when they feel completely safe and trust the people they're with. Of course it's fine to make fun of how serious this can make them look, but just remember that expression is a good sign that your cat is very much enjoying themselves and likes being with you. This is also useful to remember when you're getting to know a cat that seems a bit shy---you may be making more progress than realize!
A week ago I had to put down my kitty of 16 years. Slyvy has been with me for over half of my life. I bottle fed her, used paper towels to clean her bum so she'd poop-she was too young at the time to go on her own. I raised her from a week old. She was my baby girl.
He never really liked her. She was always very vocal about her desires and ruled the roost. This was her home and he came into it, therefor he should respect her. He has always felt that cats weren't real pets, they are only meant to be kept around to keep pests away.
I know he was relieved when she passed since I was spending a lot of time, effort and money to keep her quality of life good.
After she was put down, I spent 15 minutes crying to myself and petting her and talking to her. My husband pulled me into a hug and apparently gestured for the vet to take the body away. Afterwards he... keep reading on reddit ➡
My cat Otis at my dads house is terrified of fireworks. Poor buddy thinks the world is ending. I watched for a bit and went inside to comfort him.
Now my dads mad because I’m not watching.
I don’t really care if he’s mad though I’d much rather my cat feel a little safer right now than have him in the house totally alone freaking out.
Edit: Cat tax: https://imgur.com/gallery/AErxFJR
Edit 2: thank you generous redditor for the gold! I’ll give Otis a lil smooch for you!
Final edit; hey, I’m gonna keep this short but I saw there were a lot of people asking why I posted this. When I posted this I was very upset, my dad isn’t really the greatest. He calls me a bad daughter all the time, so I often take a colder stance to him but it always gets under my skin. I made this post hugging my cat and wondering if I really was a bad daughter for wanting to comfort my cat instead of watching fireworks. I’d like to thank all the kind redditors here for helping me realize I did the right t... keep reading on reddit ➡
