Potential TMI, but I’ve wondered about it for years and finally found the name of it yesterday. For years, every month or two I’ll get an episode of what feels like excruciating nerve pain that... well, feels like it’s in and around my butthole. It lasts for about 15 minutes and then completely disappears. Never seen a doctor for it because it happens uncommonly and is so brief, but the pain is really severe and I had started to wonder if I had a problem with the bottom of my spine (corresponding to the nerves that provide sensation to that area).
After an episode of this yesterday, I decided to figure this out for myself. After a little googling around, I found an almost perfect description of the experience: proctalgia fugax. It turns out that this is due to a spasm of the levator ani muscle and does not appear to be dangerous or progressive. There’s not much treatment for it either, but my fears that something more serious was going... keep reading on reddit ➡
Overall I think this subreddit has done a good job at calling out predators. There's a lot less victim blaming and sweeping things under the rug than there used to be. However, when allegations against Zero were first put forth, I was disappointed at the early kneejerk reactions, which trended much closer towards toxicity and idol worship. I'm not posting this to call out anyone in particular, which is why names are being hidden, but to remind people of how easy it is to backslide into reactionary, regressive thinking when your favorite people are involved.
And to pre-empt those who will say I'm cherrypicking comments to make the sub look bad: I had way, way more 'Zero can do no wrong' comments to choose from that I didn't include here for brevity's sake.

So, today, my husband took me shopping at IKEA for some random items we needed but were unable to get due to previous public gatherings restrictions. We decided to make a day out of it and grab lunch at the IKEA restaurant, while we're at it.
Now, for clarification, due to COVID-19, there's certain rules and procedures to be followed in IKEA, meaning that now, you stand in queue, first to get your table number, then move forward to order and go take your designated seat, and one of the server wheels your food to you.
All fine and dandy, we stand in line to get our table number, though the queue is kind of long and we're considering scrapping this idea and just go eat elsewhere. Right next to the window is a giant menu with items offered in the IKEA restaurant. The usual meatballs, salmon, salads, and the like. In front of us stands a Karen, with a kid in a stroller, which looked to be around 4 years old. Karen stares at the menu and looks over at the restaurant employee handing out t... keep reading on reddit ➡
We’ll be reviewing categories of clothing in hopes of finding the best item(s) in that category. This first post focuses on finding the best pair of boxer briefs. We bought all 13 pairs tested using our own money and there are no referral or affiliate links contained in this post.
Over the past six months I've been on a personal crusade to find the best pair of mens boxer briefs. The reason? I'm investing the time and money now, upfront, so I never have to think about what underwear I buy ever again. During this quest I've researched over 20 pairs of underwear, and wore and washed 13 pairs over six months (and I will continue to test and update this guide accordingly). CDLP's Boxer Brief came out on top; they're ligh... keep reading on reddit ➡
THE LAST OF US PART II - REVIEW/ANALYSIS
"...I would do it all over again." - Joel
Over the past few years, I've noticed an incredible shift in the way we consume, interpret, and critique art. I work as a mental health therapist and being able to see people's reactions to stories and characters has always fascinated me. However, I have noticed that people's reactions to art, specifically any form of narrative story-telling, has gotten to some extremes. Whether it was Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi, or the grand finale of Game of Thrones, some people turned their passion into pure hatred. Now it's The Last of Us Part II and fans and audiences are definitely divided on the plot. So I decided to write my review on the narrative and why I feel Part II is one of the most beautiful, yet tragic, stories ever told about the human condition and how emotional pain distorts our views and values, even when we think we see things clearly. I also want to tackle the notion o... keep reading on reddit ➡
update My partner and I had a long chat last night. Thank you all for the responses which helped so much.. The NTA comments helped me articulate my position, and the YTA comments helped me be open-minded and empathetic. He has transfered me the portion of rent I paid during my period of unemployment and more importantly, going forward, we are now splitting expenses and leisure as 1/3 contribution from me and 2/3 from him.
We got the trusty Excel spreadsheet out and realised that after he has transferred a regular amount to a savings account each month, the income he has left to play with was just slightly more than my ENTIRE income. So he sees that as disposable and I had to "keep up" as we split everything 50/50 hence why I was left with very little at the end. We agreed that was unfair. Thanks again for your input everyone.***

Many of you probably saw these posts over the past few days and, like myself, found them useful and informative. I was looking for them again, but the OP went and deleted their account.
Here's a link to the Google Doc that they linked in the final post, but I'll be posting the text here too for ease of access.
While Jenelle once again tries to deny that Kaiser is abused by David, I figured I’d compile all of the known allegations into one post for an easy reference.
This is not anywhere near a full, comprehensive list of David’s abusive behavior towards the kids. I’m only citing the alleged physical abuse because if I covered the psychological abuse, I’d be doing this all day.

Many horrible things have happened in recent weeks that have shed light on different complex and important issues. There is little if any insight we can provide that hasn't already been given.
What we want to do in this space is speak about our moderation philosophy in light of current events, and update you on how that philosophy has informed what we're doing now.
We believe that, as a news subreddit, being available to spread information is especially important right now, so any shutdown was considered out of the question and would have been counter-productive. But we wholeheartedly support the subreddits that did shut down in protest.
We will continue to aggressively enforce our rule against racist, bigoted comments and have recruited extra help and are putting in extra hours in order to make this a certainty, even as racist groups try to exploit the tensions being inflamed right now. We pride ourselves on trying to be relatively impartial, non-partisan, ideologically pl
I really don't have the words or thoughts or am really in the state of the mind to write up a solid review, but all I can say is this: That is the most beautiful, heart wrenching, emotionally taxing story I have ever seen portrayed across any media format, ever. Bar none. I have never been taken on such a rollercoaster of emotions where I feel so deeply conflicted on WHAT and HOW to feel in my life, and this is an experience I will never forget.
I've legitimately never sat and felt so moved and shaken and been in tears from a story like this until right now. If you don't have a PS4, I can only recommend buying it specifically to be able to play The Last Of Us Parts I & II. Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann have truly created something that will forever stand on it's own 2 feet. Wow.
As in, I got into a game and I want to know what I should expect of him and any crucial information that would get me killed. Like, "Talon is a close range assassin with a high early threat that goes invisible on his ult and can jump terrain". As a new player you wouldn't know any of that until your screen goes gray and he's snowballing.
The wiki goes into too much detail and does not have an intuitive order read for combos or playstyles. The champion spotlights are usually too long and filled with puns, and usually REALLY out of date. Guides tend to be at the very least 10 minutes, the short ones, and meant to play, not against. And the ability previews in the client can't be seen during game. Any place I'm missing?

Homebrew is great. Homebrew has extended the longevity of 5e for many of my players. But a lot of it isn't as great. The most commonly cited reason for not using more Homebrew among DMs I know is that it is too hard to find high quality content through all the noise; they are busy people and don't want waste hours on reddit reading through the latest time wizards and sword mages to find something they actually might want to allow. I understand that, but I also like having a lot of Homebrew options for my players, so I spend a considerably amount of time looking for content, reading content, and playtesting it.
You don't need Homebrew for you game, and particularly don't need Homebrew classes, but they do provide value to some players, particularly those that have played a long time. Some players have been playing a Fighter since the 5e playtest and are still happy playing a Fighter. Some crave novelty and new experiences, mechanics that tweak the system and let them explore new chara... keep reading on reddit ➡
Hey everyone, I wanted to explain why I left unexpectedly. I left because of some issues I had with the community, my friends, and also because I didn’t like the current state of Freddit. I had heard so many things about old Freddit, and how everyone was much closer together. This ultimately left me longing for it and also dissatisfied with the current state of Freddit, although I know that can’t be changed much. This is the fate of all communities.
I made the decision to delete my accounts without intending to come back. I probably should have written a goodbye note but whatever on that.
Had some time to think while I was at work and I saw all the comments on the post last night about me leaving. I was not expecting that many people to be concerned about me. Also realized that this place has been my home for 15 months and abandoning it wouldn’t be right. All I could think about was Freddit.
With that said I’m coming back, and won’t let those negative things get in the way, and will... keep reading on reddit ➡

Given the influx of new users, several have commented on the need for introductory posts to help prevent an eternal September situation, so I felt I’d pitch in with a general introduction to modern “rationalism” as best I can. I’ve not been around since the beginning and I’m sure some of this will be wrong, so any corrections will be appreciated. For a more in-depth look, I believe that “The AI Does not Hate You” is a good primer.
As some comments have noted, I should stress that SlateStarCodex(SSC) and TheMotte are only loosely connected to rationalism these days, often called rat-adjacent. SSC arose from the initial rationalist movement, but was always a bit more general interest and rarely focused directly on rationalist topics. The community that formed around SSC and eventually became the Motte had even less connection, being more of a politically driven space. A significant minority of posters here will id... keep reading on reddit ➡
Hello dwellers, I’m a German guy who just recently got into the hobby, and spent a long time researching… well, a lot of stuff. The following is intended as a reference or perhaps a guide for newcomers who might find themselves lost. It is a long read, but I think it may save you a lot of “work” and touch topics that you might not have considered yet. Headlines are written in bold letters, so you could just scan through it or simply use Ctrl+F to see if something interests you. I mentioned my nationality so you can put some statements further down into perspective. I apologize in advance for any inconsistencies, I wrote this over a longer timespan. Anyway, here goes:
Chances are you already heard about this infamous website. Its main purpose is to serve as a database for boardgames. I don't even know where to start.
I'm almost 32 years old and I've always had a rocky relationship with my mother, made more confusing by the fact of how much my mother has done for me. She's gone to bat for me, she's helped me, she's been there for me.
On the flipside, she's never said sorry (while I must apologize for everything), her first reaction to me telling her that my cousin sexually abused me as a child was to worry about how my dad 'cared about [cousin] more because he was the first baby my dad knew' and at 18 I tried to call bullshit on that, I've never felt good enough, I've been emotionally abused.
But my mom loves me, you know? Because she's always done so much and has never hesitated and sure she'll throw it back in my face when she was upset but she's gotten so much better. She got her masters in social work and therapy and has this thriving practice. You know, she didn't have it easy as a kid, my gramma has gotten worse and now has onset dementia that... keep reading on reddit ➡
"How many young college graduates have taken demanding jobs in high-powered firms, vowing that they will work hard to earn money that will enable them to retire and pursue their real interests when they are thirty-five? But by the time they reach that age, they have large mortgages, children to school, houses in the suburbs that necessitate at least two cars per family, and a sense that life is not worth living without really good wine and expensive holidays abroad. What are they supposed to do, go back to digging up roots? No, they double their efforts and keep slaving away. One of history’s few iron laws is that luxuries tend to become necessities and to spawn new obligations. Once people get used to a certain luxury, they take it for granted. Then they begin to count on it. Finally they reach a point where they can’t live without it."
The Pancholi family is back in spotlight in connection with Sushant Singh Rajput's passing away. What do we know about Aditya Pancholi? Aside from him being an actor, the son of a producer, he also has an unusually lengthy criminal record.
1994: Anil Kapoor complained to the police about calls from the underworld threatening him to not accept a role in the 1995 film Trimurti. Police investigations found that it was Pancholi who was making the calls, because he wanted the role Anil was offered. When Kapoor learnt it was Pancholi he took his complaint back. (Source)
