I have a blowgun in oregon and i don’t know if it’s illegal to own one or not like other states so i need to know
Would be so dope, crafted with the new berries and shrooms, 3 different poisons
Slow - Movement slowed, reload time, med time
Dot - draining life, food, water from a player
Senses - weakening sight and hearing for a moment.
When you think about it, there are all these wild moments in League that we just kinda take for granted.
Imagine if we got to see GP versus Morde fight in a real animated cinematic. GP is tossing barrels everywhere, shooting his pistol. Morde is swinging his mace around, being all badass till....
Morde can only look on in horror as Gangplank eats an orange and the death realm disentegrates around them.
That's only the beginning. Imagine watching Aatrox and Nunu fight alongside each other. Imagine seeing Garen and Yuumi tearing it up. Or even maybe Sett just punching the hell out of Volibear.
I dunno man. I feel like it would be sweet as hell getting two minute vignettes of these crazy moments.
This weapon would be crafted from 3 bamboo and a feather and use darts as ammo which would be crafted like arrows but without the flint.
They would fire 2x faster than bows but do half damage and would have a lower range. They would have 2 special enchants and cant be enchanted with infinity, power, punch, multi-shot or quick charge.
Ricochet would be an enchant that makes the darts ricochet off of mobs and blocks and have 3 levels that let it ricochet more 3 times for I, 4 times for II and 5 times for III.
Homing (which could also be put on bows) would be an enchant that makes dart/arrows home in on enemies i at certain range and has 2 levels, they would home in from 4 blocks away for I and 8 blocks for II.
EDIT: Homing will be excluded and replaced with a different enchant Confusion this would breifly Confuse and Pacify the mob hit (this would not work on the wither and would be divided by 2 for the ender dragon) and has 2 levels, 50 ticks (2.5 seconds) for I and 80 ticks (4 seco... keep reading on reddit ➡
Has anyone ever done any big game hunting with a blowgun? If so, what setup would you recommend? I’ve killed a coon, a couple dozen squirrels and ground squirrels, and probably close to 15 frogs and decided to try for something bigger thi year.
As the title says, I have made a homebrew to make the blowgun more viable, match it to it’s actual use, and live up to it’s martial weapon name.
EDIT: New better version of the document that makes more sense and involves a feat
As the title says, I have made a homebrew for blowguns including a weapon property and feat to give blowguns the usefulness that a martial weapon should deserve.
EDIT: new revised document
I might be the primary dev of the fork, but sometimes I just can't make up my mind. Awhile back blowguns/darts got orphaned because I got rid of ammo and the throwing skill. I thought launcherless ranged was unbalanced and ammo was tedious in general but blowgun effects (Needles of Curare, Frenzy, etc.) were a loss of something actually decent and unique gameplay-wise with the cut of "fat" that was dealing with ammo and throwing skill javelins etc.
I've been intending to restore them at some point since they were cut and it's been weighing on my mind the past couple days. So I thought I'd ask for opinions on which of these y'all would think is the better path?
As near as i can figure the best blow gun build is fighter 1 -> hexblade 1 -> scout x
fighter 1 = archery fighting style, con save proficiency
hexblade 1 = hex, hexblades curse. The blowgun is one handed so it works without getting improved pact weapon
scout x = the ability to move out of range when you get into melee. Sneak attack damage. The loading property makes it important to avoid builds with second attack. Xbow master doesn't solve this.
I'd considered 3 levels of kensai but changing to a martial arts die at a d4 + kensai shot is a change of +3 so you may as well just get the one and a half sneak attack dice from rogue and not delay progression. It would also compete with hex for your bonus action.
I'd also considered a couple levels more in warlock for darkness/devils sight, but you lose a d6 of sneak attack, one round of action, hex, and blind your allies. So not really worth it.
Anything I'm missing?
Blowgun ammo is the only ammo you can’t restock at a trapper, meaning you have to go out and find it in the world. Blowgun dart flowers are most commonly found in areas with pampas grass, and luckily enough the devs were kind enough to place two areas FILLED with pampas grass in the game. The Kushi Grasslands in Act 2 have a Pillar of Honor and Fox Den pretty much right in the middle, and the Kishi Grasslands also has a Survivor Camp just north of it. At that point it’s a quick run through the grass and you should be restocked in a minute.
Miscellaneous tip: in regards to Blowgun usage, I believe that there might be a maximum range. I was attempting to use a hallucination dart on a leader in a camp earlier, I was quite far away from him and they just kept bouncing off his armor. They’ve always worked on leaders before, so I’m assuming that there’s a maximum distance, or I’m dumb and they were just bouncing off his shield.
So last time I suggested something to the FPS list, people told me I needed proof that it was being commonly suggested, so this time I prepared and found some posts about what I think should be added to FPS, blow darts and blowguns. What they are for anyone who hasn't seen these, a blowgun are a alternative of a crossbow or bow and is crafted with bamboo. Although they haven't been posted very often now, I would like it to be added so it doesn't happen in the future.

So up until now I have given almost every weapon type the old college try in game. Currently lean to lance, sns, and greatsword mostly because each offers a modicum of blocking protection. I find I'm more a "comfort" hunter over a uber fast "efficient" one.
With that in mind thought I might want to complete the blocking spectrum with heavy bowgun and this is where I hit my wall. I have looked at videos covering movesets and such but my hang up is missing 2 factors the other weapons had.
1: Having dedicated elemental versions of the weapon. Seems multiple guns can use fire/ice/thunder ect and unsure which is best for use.
2: Ammo. How best to maintain my supply, which types I should use, should I dedicate place in my grow bed to grow ammo plants, should I dedicate bag space for on the fly ammo production, ect
Seems a bit over my head as up till now my ranged option has been bow mostly but still want to give the bowguns a chance. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Saw a reference a bit ago (below, can't recall by who) and was curious to see what it would look like at say level 7, 25 point buy so 20 dex to start.
Does sneak attack damage apply for any of the secondary shots from startoss?
Anyone played something like this? Viable at all? Range increments are pretty short.
Not sure how the reference below got to d8's, I didn't see anyway to increase the damage dice.
With a weapon master fighter, seems like it would be 2 attacks around +16/11 @ 1d2+9 (includes +6 damage from startoss and +3 from weapon master). Extra attack for comet then an attack for anyone in range for shower. With fighter you get a couple extra feats - Distance thrower maybe, Clustered Shots.
With Blowgun Ranger and archery style you get a couple points less to hit and damage, but gets a moderate poison, 2d6 sneak attack (and i think there is a feat or two that triggers lack of dex), start of basic ranger spells and basic ranger stuff.

It’s a martial weapon that has the Loading property that can’t be ignored with Crossbow Expert, since it is not a Crossbow.
It has less range than a Shortbow.
It does 1 damage (not 1d1, it is 1 damage), meaning that it doesn’t double on a crit, since a crit doubles all of the damage dice in an attack, and not your modifiers or flat damage.
Is there a single thing that’s good about the Blowgun, other than it only requiring one hand to wield?
Just a question I wanted to know cause.... Just wondering.
I was not expecting it to shoot right through the tablecloth lmao
I've found plenty of evidence for the use of blowguns as small-game hunting weapons throughout Central and South American, among the Cherokee in North America, and even Europe in the Middle Ages. But I'm trying to find how far back they go in Japan where there's sourcing to back that up. The modern sport of "fukiya" as far as I can tell only goes back to the early 20th century. My search has been hampered by a lot of noise related to ninjas, all of which provide no actual sources.
New DM here, I have given my players (currently Lv8) a list of homebrewed items that are way too powerful and I need help balancing. I already told my players that I would be making changes.
Items marked with '***' are meant to be strong (not too strong) because it was a reward for the player outsmarting and defeating a dragon. I want it to be worthwhile and possibly be used until the endgame (Lv17). The other items can be nerfed to the ground.
Light Blowgun: A gun that shoots specialized bullets. A flare bullet, a healing bullet, a slow bullet (yes functions the same way as the spell and it’s basically an attack/I wasn't thinking), a tranquilizer (that puts enemies to sleep). Additionally, they deal/heal for 1d4+7 DC15 For
***Bracers: Can activate it by hitting them against each other. Upon activation, release a shockwave of energy with a 10ft radius centered around you dealing 1d20 + WIS modifier + your ranger level. The blast will not damage anyone you consider allies... keep reading on reddit ➡
Just picked up a .357 cal cold steel blowgun at basspro, it came with these very small mini-broadhead darts and stun darts that seem to work surprisingly well as the mini-broadhead will go all the way through both sides of an empty can. Does anyone think it’s got enough power to kill some squirrels? I surprisingly can’t find any darts online that are .357, and I am going to make my own that are a little more hefty and with a broader head based off this sick instructables. https://www.instructables.com/id/Professional-Blowgun-Darts-From-Scratch-1/ I’d love to hear other experiences and reviews on this caliber blowgun as I can’t find any solid results on YouTube or google.
I would love to have a reason to use blowguns. The 1 damage and "Ammunition, Loading, (Range 25/100)" seems to be accurate for the weapon. But mechanically why would I use it over a shortbow? 1d6 damage and "Ammunition, (Range 80/320), Two-Handed"
Blowguns have the 'advantage' of being one handed I guess. Am I missing something?
Can we brainstorm some special properties to potentially add to blowguns?
Not breaking stealth when attacking with it
Poison dosages going farther than the standard three applications to ammunition.
The Blowgun is a small weapon that works like a crossbow. It uses Darts as ammo. It also fires instantly instead of a charge up, but has less range. The Blowgun has a chance to spawn in Jungle temple chests, buried treasure that spawns inside a jungle, and by trade with jungle toolsmiths. It can also be crafted with one bamboo and one stick.
The dart is crafted with a stick and a fern. It is used with the Blowgun and deals slightly less damage than an arrow.
The Longshot Dart is crafted with two darts together, meaning it travels farther and deals more damage than a regular arrow.
Cocoa Beans and Fermented Spider Eyes can be crafted together to get a Poison Seed, combined with Awkward potion stuff, it can make poison effect stuff. However it can also be used as a material with the Longshot Dart to create a Poison Dart.
The Poison Dart is like a normal dart, but inflicts poison and has a 13% chance to inflict wither instead.
I'm a player on PS4, and I've seen something a few times that has caught my eye: I've played with individuals using the Horizon Zero Dawn LBG, but they have a unique status next to their name, which looks like a blade surrounded by purple energy. As they attack, they lose health, but their attacks seem to have a crazy amount of lifesteal. What is this status, and how do I acquire the equipment needed to replicate it? Here is an example of the status icon:
So one of my players is a Kobold rogue who uses a blowgun. Blowguns are objectively bad mechanically, they deal a flat 1 damage. They ARE concealable and cheap, as is the ammunition, which is nice, but that doesn’t usually make them worth it.
I got to thinking, in the heat of combat, with spells going off, arrows flying everywhere and beefy warriors in your face with shields and axes, you’d probably have no idea where you’ve been shot from if you were hit by a blowgun dart, or at the very least only the TARGET would know about the shooter and even then only if they’re hit.
I’m thinking about ruling it as “if you’re hidden and you hit a target with a blowgun, they can use their reaction to make a perception check against your stealth to detect you” or is that op? How should I be rule this?
Im a weekend Garage DIYer. I’ve been itching to get this air compressor, but the more I think about it, I’m only going to use it to blow away saw dust to clean my bench top tools and track saw.
I was wondering if that’s even worth it. I do not plan on getting any air powered tools.
Compressor (aluminum tank) + hose + blowgun = $260
Is it just normal 1/2 inch?
Sea Urchins would be like underwater slimes that dont hop but instead stay still on the ocean floor. Hitting one with your fist or a weapon or just running into it will effect you with poison 2. Killing it will drop a needle which can be shot from a Blowgun ........................................................................................ Blowguns are crafted from 3 pieces of bamboo in a vertical line. They deal 1 heart per shot, and have a 2 second cooldown, although they dont need to charge. When a mob is shot by a blowgun with a needle, they will be poisoned with poison 2. Needles can also be used to repair leather armor for minimum xp each time. ........................................................................................ Sea Urchins can come in the colors purple, blue, black, red, and rarely pink. They can be scooped up with a bucket.
It looks like my Champion/Paladin can cast Lay on Hands on a target within 100 ft using a Spellstrike Blowgun Dart (12 gp, item level 3), also inflicting 1 point of nonlethal damage. Is that legit?
I made a blowgun but my dog tries to eat darts and I wanted a way that I could not worry about him grabing one and hurting himself
Recipe: [Bamboo] [Bamboo] [Arrow]
Two bamboo and an arrow make a blowgun. The thing about this is that you don't carry darts or arrows with you, instead the blowgun loses durability with each dart fired, much like a trident losing durability when thrown, think of that but as a bow. This would make the one arrow in the recipe possibly too easy because it has more than 1 dart to fire, but bamboo is somewhat hard to find, requiring a few thousand blocks to travel sometimes. Also if someone sees this and is thinking it resembles a firearm, something Mojang has said they won't add, these are blowguns, not resembling a firearm any more than a bow or crossbow, especially since it would look like a bamboo tube.
Anyway, this is what bamboo blowguns do:
How it is used: When not enchanted, it can be used 4 times before breaking. Durability and uses left are the same. With unbreaking 1, it becomes 8 uses. With unbreaking 2, it becomes 16 uses. With unbreaking 3, it becomes 24 uses. The blowgun... keep reading on reddit ➡
