Why are you mean to the people making your beverages?

I've worked with the public for many years. I've taken crap from customers before. But Starbucks customers are a different breed of evil entitled asshats. You come in, don't know what you are ordering then get rude when we correct it. You speak down to us as if we are shit on the bottom of your shoe. You have zero respect for people in the service industry. You make assumptions that make you angry, when you are usually wrong then get mad at us for that. Also.. can we talk about disgusting old men that for some reason feel the need to hit on young baristas. Gross. Get the fuck out of here Also if we hanging your items out to you, and we are touching the very bottom( or top) and you just have to grab it right there .... and touch me. Again gross nasty men. I can only speak for myself... but people like you get talked about. Laughed at.. and possibly get decaf shots. That's what you get.

Austin-Travis County Announces Limitations to Dine-in Food and Beverage Service for Dec. 31-Jan. 3

Beginning on Thursday, Dec. 31 at 10:30 p.m. through Sunday, Jan. 3 at 6 a.m., dine-in food and beverage service will be restricted by City and County order from 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Venues serving food and drink may still operate between 10:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. using drive-thru, curbside pick-up, take-out, or delivery service. This change applies to any venue serving food or drink from an onsite kitchen, food truck, or catering service. Between 6 a.m. and 10:30 p.m., venues are permitted to continue dine-in operations.

You can view the City and the County orders on the COVID-19 Orders and Rules page.

The situation is critical,” said Dr. Mark Escott, Interim Austin-Travis County Health Authority. “We are asking the public to stay home as much as possible and not gather with people outside their households for New Year's Eve. We are asking people to only go out to restaurants for take away, delivery, or drive through services. We are now experiencing uncontrolled widespread community transmission of COVID-19, particularly in circumstances where masking and distancing are not possible, making bars and similar establishments extremely concerning over this holiday weekend.

These new orders only apply to businesses that serve food or drink. All other businesses may operate as outlined in other COVID-19 Orders and Rules. Individuals who see a business operating with dine-in service past 10:30 p.m. between Dec. 31 and Jan. 3 should report the violation to Austin 311.

Tune in Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 10-10:30 a.m. for a press conference. Local Austin-Travis County elected officials, public health leadership, and medical professionals will share information about the dine-in restrictions and encourage the community to stay home and stay safe over New Year’s weekend.

The conference can be viewed at www.ATXN.tv in English on ATXN 1, and a Spanish-language simulcast on ATXN 3. It will also be live on the Austin Public Health Facebook page.

For more information about COVID-19, visit www.AustinTexas.gov/COVID19.

Who in the hell is supporting the food-beverage ratio law?

Who wants this? All it does is stifle business! Virginia literally can’t have a normal bar, it always has to be “bar and grille/cafe” or “gastropub.” I don’t understand how any spectrum of politicians in this day and age can support such an antiquated law.

For those unfamiliar, here’s the rule: “For the mixed beverage licensee, current Virginia ABC regulations stipulate that a minimum 45 percent of the total gross sales must be from food and nonalcoholic beverages. Conversely, alcohol sales should comprise no more than 55 percent of these sales.”

At least the ABC system makes a billion dollars in revenue. It’s a moneygrubbing crony system that chokes competition out completely, absolutely screws over small distillers http://www.drinksreform.org/blog-1/2019/2/27/a-small-step-forward-for-virginia-distilleries and our selection and price suck, but at least we gain SOMETHING. I’m quite liberal but this is some nanny-state bullshit, and misguided too: if they REALLY don’t trust the consumer or the establishment to stop consumption, it should be restricted on a time basis. That would be WAY more correlated to binge drinking than the revenue of food compared to the revenue of alcohol.

edit: one counter is that it encourages people to buy from the ABC. my problem with that is that in that case, the establishments still have to buy their liquor from ABC and ON TOP the liquor will get taxed at the point of sale to customer. makes no sense to me

edit 2: there’s more! “In no circumstance, shall the number of individual seats at free-standing tables and in booths be less than the number of individual seats at counters.”

“Premixing Mixed beverages may not be prepared in advance but only pursuant to a customer's order, except that mixed beverages may be premixed in frozen drink dispensers of types approved by Virginia ABC as well as other premixing options.”

what are the best non-alcoholic beverages that you’ve tried?

I was originally going to label this coffee and tea brands, but I remembered a conversation with my boyfriend awhile back about trying more small brand soda, so hopefully this title works!

My family and I have been having discussing switching more of our buying categories to smaller businesses and indie brands, and coffee and tea are one of the things we buy the most- being avid coffee drinkers since birth (literally) and from the south.

Again, any beverage category works!! I remember a post thread awhile back that was specifically about hot chocolate that I had bookmarked for recommendations. I should go look for that again...

Had a really embarrassing experience trying to get my free partner beverage at a different store

Basically, I am going through a legal name change so the name I go by doesn't match my ID. This causes huge problems when I get ID'ed for my discount. I understand the policy but it just sucks. In my state a court date is required to change your name and I have yet to receive my court date. Anyway, I was in a store with my girlfriend and I decided to use my partner numbers. Right off the bat, the partner was incredibly rude which kind of took me aback. She then said "yeah well i'm gonna need to see your ID" so at this point I just thought I may as well give it a shot. Now keep in mind, my last name isn't being changed so even though my first name does not match the last name matches. She then, in the rudest way possible, goes "yeah well..those names don't match. So." And I just said that i was changing my legal name. She refused to believe me and asked for other proof, and since I was put on the spot I could not think of anyway to prove I was a partner so I told her it was alright and no big deal. It was super embarrassing infront of my girlfriend and it just really sucked to be treated like this as a fellow partner. I then realized I could have shown her a picture of my schedule. Anyway, just wanted to get this off my chest. I guess I will be ordering my partner card now.

Mardi Bouffe et Boissons - 19 janvier / The Montreal Food and Beverages thread - January 19th / Le grand sujet pizza - The definitive pizza thread

In these troubled times of home delivery, pizza is king. A precursor to take-out food, pizza is often the easy solution when you don't feel like cooking. Unless you're one of those fundamentalists who make homemade pizzas, with your own dough prepared in advance and your tomato coulis that cooks for 24 hours? Either way, share your plans.

We even accept people who consider deep dish to be real pizzas, we're inclusive like that.

Whether you are a bastard who is still going to have a party with 10 people or a monk who has been living alone for 9 months and who is about to spend Christmas alone, it is still a good opportunity to have a nice little meal. So do we do the whole symphony, paw stew, tourtière etc ? Or something simpler for a single person who wants to treat himself?

It's the Christmas spirit this week, be nice, throw out your ideas and recipes!
