Anyone love baking but find decorating stressful?

The title! I’m an amateur home baker and on my gosh. Decorating can be fun but on cakes it can also be soo stressful, especially when there’s a time limit. Anyone agree?

Any decorating cake advice? I’ve got the main things noted down such as a crumb coat, scraping the cake, levelling the cakes for a clean flat finish.

Reminder for Canadians frustrated with results from Dessert Person/Bon App baking recipes

I've seen a number of comments from bakers who aren't getting the correct consistencies in their bakes, especially for things like Rick's cookies, Claire's malted brownies, or any of the more delicate bakes from Dessert Person. (Usually this will manifest in things like a tough texture, "puffy" cookie, thicker batter consistency than expected, etc.) This is likely due to our flour! Canadian AP flour has a protein content of 13%, which is closer to US Bread Flour, whereas most AP flour in the States runs 9-11%. (Of course, there are also lots of environmental factors that can affect baking, but hopefully this will help anyone having repeated issues).

So - what to do about it? In some recipes, using a fraction less flour will suffice (I often add the last 1/2 cup gradually until the texture looks right), or using a mix of cake flour (lower protein content) and AP. If you have access to US brands, that's probably the easiest way! Using a scale didn't really change the results for me, so in my case the protein content was definitely the culprit.

I hope this is helpful to anyone struggling like I was, and if you have any other tricks to try I'm all ears!

A glass baking dish broke in my hand at Walmart Canada

I was looking at the baking dishes and I grabbed one of the cheaper ones on the bottom after wondering why it was 4-5 bucks less. I went to grab it and picked it up then a piece of it snapped off and went flying and my hand scraped against the main dish. It caused a lot of bleeding. It wouldn't stop bleeding for around 25 minutes. I went to this stocker and asked to speak to the manager. She brought me to the back area and asked me to grab some paper towels from the bathroom. I went in there and they were out of paper towels. So I stood around for another 5 minutes waiting on the manager while blood poured down my hand onto the floor. Basically the whole area I walked in had blood droplets all along the path I took.

The manager came and got my info and took a picture of the cut and said someone will contact me within 24 hours.

What do I expect here?

I work with gloves and I change them often. I know this cut will be a pain in the ass tomorrow when I'm changing gloves throughout the day.

Just curious as to what will happen.

I don't know where else to post this.

The bleeding has stopped but the area is raw. I hope it is good to go by tomorrow for work.

EDIT: Walmart didn't even bother calling me.

ANOTHER EDIT:

I ended up calling Walmart and the same manager was working and I reached out to her asking her why they didn't call within 24 hours like she said. She came up with some lame ass BS excuse and I said I would put a complaint in on her with the way she handled things and also because none of the staff knew where the medical kit was located, they were basically walking around like a bunch of clueless dicks but they had good intentions.

10 minutes later she called back and said she put the info into something and sent it to the complaints section or something along that.

I told her to have a good night and left the conversation with a real hatred towards that scummy store.

Lesson learned and FU walmart.

Use 2 parts baking soda and 1 part oil to remove jar labels so you can reuse them!

I like reusing jars from food for food/other storage purposes. Some of my favorite jars have really sticky labels though that are a pain to get off. I googled "DIY goo gone" and it turns out that a mixture of 2 parts baking soda and 1 part coconut/vegetable oil makes a paste you can spread on label goo. I just tried it, using olive oil for the oil. Spread it on the label, let it sit for 10 - 20 minutes before going in with a sponge and you can save yourself a lot of elbow grease!!! Hopefully this hack will make someone as happy as it made me, LOL
