Hi, a group I made with people from Reddit to play volleyball normally meet in Queens (usually saturdays) but we're planning to meet in Central Park this Wednesday evening if anyone would like to join.
I have a ball and a net so we can pretty much play anywhere. Thinking of also bringing badminton if anyone is interested in that?
Planning to meet after 5:30 PM ish since some of us are coming after work but I'm more flexible to meet earlier on if mid-afternoon works better for you. Let me know!
If you could include whether or not you're vaccinated it would be helpful as well
Outside of victors freecore tech, everyone uses wood.
Why’s that? Does type of wood matter?
Is different materials for handle a marketing thing?
Chamika Karunaratne hails from a sporting family especially his father Louie Karunaratne and his elder brothers Niluka Karunaratne and Dinuka Karunaratne are all national badminton players who have played at national competitions. Even Chamika Karunaratne himself has played badminton at national competitions. Chamika Karunaratne himself has a badminton profile by Badminton World Federation. Chamika also played in school level competitions as a javelin thrower in addition to badminton and cricket.
Interestingly, Chamika made his test debut in 2019 against Australia but that debut was an unforgettable debut for him as he ended up with match figures of 1/148. He was initially not part of Sri Lanka test squad, but he was included as an injury cover.
In February 2021, he along with his elder brother and Sri Lanka's best badminton player Niluka Karunaratne played in the first round encounters in the men's singles of the Sri Lankan Badminton Nationals 2020. Chamika like his elder brothers could have pursued his career focusing fully on badminton but he opted for cricket at a time when Sri Lankan cricket is in massive crisis. Hopefully he gets constant opportunities to play at international level.
So I don’t know if this is true but my mom told me that after a full game you would touch rackets as a sign of respect (like boxing). I’m not sure if it’s common place and I really need to know if it is so can someone inform me on how this act became a thing?
I have some friends who haven't played badminton besides gym class, and are doubting how athletic and interesting badminton can be. They want me to show them a video of professional play that can show off the sport.
I think it would be best if I could find a short highlights video of a doubles match that displays the speed of the game.
I think singles might be too nuanced with strategic shots rather than explosive shots for an amateur to appreciate, but maybe I'm wrong. I also think that diving plays, behind the back returns, trick net shots, etc. might be interesting alongside strong attacking play; but of course not all matches have that.
I appreciate any videos!
This is a badminton shuttle launcher. It throws shuttles automatically from other side of the court. You can practice many things with it. Unlimited Smashes or training yourself. You can set the shots in the sequence you want in phone app. Like Clear Right, drop left, Middle center with delay(0.5 to 4 sec).
I made it for myself In LockDown. I am a weekend badminton player playing with friends in Hyd Kondapur before corona. Got an idea to build a launcher to win my friends everytime :) .Wanna see fellow badminton lovers reaction/feedback on this .
Check out this promo to understand how does it work.
This is a thank you video to plenty of you here for all your support with my videos and me reaching a small milestone of 1000 subs on YouTube.
You guys voted for it so you've got it and all the contents of my badminton bag! 🤣🤣
Thank you again for the immense support, I appreciate them loads!
TLDR: Like Kabal said in Mortal Kombat the movie:
>Take your price, then double it and double it again
I'm having to learn new words to attempt to describe how much value and insight is in this package. You can tell the amount of work they put into this simply by the level of detail they go into (36% of my serve returns are lifts, for example), and they split everything into an easy to digest format with actionable advice.
They then send a video as well, to try and show concepts that may not be easy to explain in writing - and it added a personal touch haha which was sweet. You can tell everything is custom-made for each individual player and I'm definitely adding this to my monthly budget.
For those that don't know /u/badminton-insight, is a mixed double professional pair that runs a badminton Youtube channel teaching various aspects of the game. Unlike other channels, they also offer training resources on their website like multishuttle programs, weight/core routines, and virtual coaching (all really useful for a player like me who doesn't have access to a physical coach).
This review will talk about the process and contents of the coaching, in as much depth as I can give. Note this was NOT sponsored in anyway and I paid out of pocket so this is an unbiased review.
Purchasing was fairly simple, you buy the coaching via their website/payment portal, and then you get sent an email of how to submit footage to them for their review. Everything is super easy to follow.
Anything can be submitted, from a video of an isolated technique you're practicing to footage of a match. Just as long as it's no longer than 15 minutes. I recommend (and they do too) editing out the breaks between rallies to get as much footage time in as possible.
From there, it's just uploading and sending to them - they quote a 2 week turnaround time which I found to be accurate in my time.
Note that this order was placed last month when Greg had a concussion and I was still able to receive it in this timeframe - so I assume under normal circumstances it would be even quicker!
Jenny took the time to send me personal emails keeping me updated on the situation and status - you can tell a lot of love and work goes into these!
When I got the files back, I knew I was in for a treat. The PDF was 20MB, so even before I downloaded it, I knew it was going to be chockful of information. And boy was I right!
I submitted a mi... keep reading on reddit ➡
There's already a similar post, but it's old and most clubs seem to be closed!
I just moved to Bristol and I was looking for a badminton club relatively close to the center! Maximum 30/40min by bus... I'm relatively a beginner. Just used to play with friends but nothing very serious... And I'm a lady.
Thank you in advance :)
Anyone know any places to play badminton over the summer in Ithaca? Is the Helen Newmann hall open? Also, is anyone interested in playing together?
I'm an artist writing a badminton Webtoon as someone who's only played in high school (there are no courts in my area unfortunately). Because of this I have to do all my own research and kinda draw ideas from thin air.
For doubles players:
What inclined you to partner with them?
What pet peeves/problems do you face with your partner?
Were there little/big things in their technique/play that you had to get accustomed to?
If you transitioned from singles to doubles, what did you find hardest to get comfortable with?
For singles players:
What made you choose singles (maybe a bad experience or...)?
What sort of techniques or skills do you think are more important for singles players?
Edit: Thanks for all the insightful info holy shit!! I got something out of every comment, whether that be a character trait or possible plot point/conflict. I'll definitely share the Webtoon when I post the first episode :')
[I have no clue what to flair this post.]
Is anybody willing to play badminton at the ARC with me every other day?
31f, looking for a tennis or badminton partner. I am very active at the gym but looking to add non gym activity to the mix as the weather gets better.
TL: DR --> Someone on their flight from turkey to the U.K (not the players or the managers) tested positive for covid, and through trace back the Indonesian team has been deemed as a possible covid risk and has to go through a mandatory 10-day quarantine, as per regulations by the government of England.
As a badminton fan, I am incredibly angered by the handling of this situation by both the U.K government and BWF as well.
Not only is the entire Indonesian team vaccinated, but they are also going through covid testing every day, so I don't understand why they can't just conduct another covid test to see whether or not these players pose a risk to other players in the tournament.
How do you feel about the situation?
Edit: After reading more about the NHS laws, and the U.K system, I'm more inclined to believe that this was just an organizational blunder by the BWF, not the NHS. I won't remove my original post, cause that could be seen as unethical, but yeah, it seems like bwf is the one that carries the most blame in this scenario.
Does this exist? Should this exist? (Yes).
I know it's slightly complicated because it requires an indoor space, but maybe when things chill out, one could be found at a community centre.
All I want is to play badminton all day every day! I want to wake up at 7AM and train until 9PM and just keep doing that for 7 days a week. Unfortunately I do not have the money. Who else wants this? Or is it only me 🙁
I have been playing for 7 years and I am currently ranked 256 but I want to reach world number one and I know this is the only at this point.
Are there any groups that play badminton at CMU regularly?
I'm looking to play with a group regularly over the summer.
Just wondering which Activity people use to track their badminton session? There's Tennis but no Badminton on Garmin watch. I guess Cardio might work for singles or is there just a general Activity option? No point to use a GPS activity since it's indoors and wouldn't work.
Badminton at the DWTC if anyone is interested ?
Anyone looking to play badminton over the summer. I am a mid-level player, not too good but not too bad. Haven't had much practice in recent times but trying to start again this summer and play at least once a week, maybe more.
Message me if you are interested. Also, let me know if there are any other resources to find interested people.
Thanks! Have a great summer.
Is the badminton club still a thing here? I wanted to get back into the game, played it a little bit back in HS but never got a chance to join the club when I got here.
ughhhh it hurts and can't stay home and rest it
Just wanted to play this weekend. Not looking to join any clubs.
Got into a heavy argument with a friend when he messaged me saying if I wanted to play baddy. I asked him what the hell is baddy, and he said it's short for badminton. Asked him why his lazy ass couldn't type badminton or atleast select it from the dictionary, he said "Everyone says baddy".
