This is absolutely wild to me.
I (18F) am back from college and recently went to a new hair salon with my best friend (18F). Gemma is deaf, was wearing a Gallaudet shirt (it says 'Gallaudet University, School for the Deaf' on it), and wanted to go blonder, because of the fact that everyone has to wear masks, she can't use her lip reading skills and instead uses her phone or uses sign language. We went to get our hair done together and I decided to help her out and show the new hairstylist what she wanted with her hair and explain in detail how she wanted her hair done.
Did I sort of hover? Yes, I did. I noticed that the hairstylist was getting out the wrong things and I went over three times to tell her while Gemma sat there quietly, not knowing what the hell was going on. The stylist started to act really strangely and started to talk to Gemma, snap her fingers near her ears, and finally said she was taking a break and went off to the back room of the hair salon for a few minutes.
At this point, Gemma and I decided that the service was shit and that it was time to go. Before we could leave, the hairstylist came back and literally kept us there. She made excuses, started talking, and stalled and prevented us from leaving. The cops arrived like 10 minutes later and Gemma and I were separated and I was taken into one area. I was asked a few questions and I answered, I showed them pictures of us as children and our instagram and snap stories, I called my dad, and the cops understood everything.
It turns out that the hairstylist had assumed that Gemma was being human trafficked because she was 'catatonic' in her chair, she was unresponsive, she seemed agitated by 'waving' her hands around, and I was doing all of the talking for her. The cops left and I went out there to scream at the hairstylist, I used some choice words, called her some mean things, and, because it's a chain, I forced her to call her manager so that I could watch her get fired on the spot. I was extremely angry and I told her that she was the stupidest B in the world for all of the drama.
AITA for screaming at the stylist? We left with a lot of free stuff and gift cards but my friends say that she was doing her job, I think that she was a nosy bitch.
Today, my mom was going through her Facebook friends. She came across John Pyle. Remembering that it had been quite a while since she heard from him, she clicked on his profile. It was way different than she last remembered years previous. He had well over twice as many friends and had uploaded a picture several years ago and nothing since. He was on a beach with two very large tattoos down his forearms saying: βSuccess requires relentless forward progress.β³ The uncharacteristically large tattoos on his previously bare skin were so startling that my mother googled his name. She was shocked to see that he is currently on the run from authorities. It was strange, however, that my mom was unable to delete this man from her friends. We had never seen anything like that before but concluded it must be because authorities have his account seized.
I learned about this man through my parents, who both were part of the long-distance running community. Immediately I came to Reddit to see if anyone has posted about him, and it does not appear so. My parents had met John at various marathons briefly and had added each other on social media. Messages were exchanged back and forth occasionally, with John innocently adding a comment occasionally here and there on my parents' posts. My mom described him as "having a ridiculous mustache and being a little strange, but overall nice." My dad described him as "overly patriotic" and "extremely right-wing". John had divorced and was single before he did the run across America.
A little background: John Pyle lived in Sarasota, Florida. He was known for being a white burly, bald guy with a HUGE white handlebar mustache. He usually carried a sizeable American flag during his long runs. He pulled some genuinely incredible feats off in the name of charity: "Pyle said he ran 83 straight days, averaging 39.69 miles per day. He went through 22 pairs of shoes, 166 Band-Aids, and 200 gallons of water." This man was a larger than life character in the running community. People thought of him as a patriotic and admirable man for his philanthropic deeds. Deep digging shows that Pyle had been arrested for DUI, marijuana, and worthless checks, decades ago.
John Pyle was charged with 30 counts of possessing child pornography in 2016 and was facing up to 450 years in prison. Authorities had received 3 tips from the Center for Missing and Exploited Children and subsequently searched John's house. The videos were particularly grotesque (war

Iβm not gonna do the cast stuff, itβs all a bit cringe tbh. I have just started university in Swansea (Wales, UK). I live and grew up in London (England) and we donβt get many Karens in the UK especially in London because people just donβt have time for that shit. That being said I would have expected for it to be more likely to have this interaction in London as opposed to Swansea.
When I came here, I assumed that being a predominantly white area I would encounter some racism being of South Asian descent with brown skin. But i was pleasantly surprised to find everyone is really nice and helpful and much more welcoming than London. (There was one incident though in a Beefeater restaurant (its like a weird restaurant with a pub/bar attached to a 3 star hotel chain in the UK) where everyone was staring at me as I moved about and I defo felt the xenophobic vibes π€)
Anyway, Iβm at the big Tesco in town (supermarket chain - the company owns/owned βfresh & easyβ in the US) and Iβm buying some food and homewares like frying pans and stuff and with that Iβm buying a load of alcohol for the flat. Iβm talking two bottles of Baileys, large bottles of vodka and white rum, Disaronno, an 18 pack of Corona, Jaegermeister as well as coke, red bull and soda water. Itβs not enough to fill a bar but still a fair bit for one person to buy.
As Iβm paying at the till (checkout) I have my driving license as ID ready to show the cashier. Iβm 19 yet I have a pretty babyish face and Iβm pretty small, so I always expect to get IDed. But for some reason the guy doesnβt ask to see my ID and I pay and start loading my shopping back into my trolley. As Iβm doing so, the woman behind me with her teenager (maybe 15-17yo?) starts speaking to the cashier. She was English not Welsh and the tone of her voice told me everything I needed to know immediately. (Karen alert) She starts whining at/scolding him, asking why he didnβt check my ID. The young cashier also seemed to realise this wasnβt going to be fun interaction and responds saying that Iβve shopped here before and he knows that I am of age. Idk if that was bullshit or not though because I donβt recall seeing him before. The woman continues to berate him, telling him it sets a bad example to her kid because it shows him that he can get away with buying drinks underage and using fake IDs. (If u see a situation like that just teach your son no

Like I'm pretty sure many of these gyms must keep a supply of body bags on hand for all the slips, trips, falls and "accidents" that result in another causality report on the evening news.
Not to mention some of the BOTTOMLESS PITS seemingly employed in these Gyms/Leagues. Among other hazards.
The number of times I've wondered if the Gym itself is straight up trying to murder the Trainer is a little too high. Hell, the Mistalon Gym launches you into a goddamn STEEL WALL. WHO DESIGNED THAT?!
(Also, I'm pretty sure more than a few of these Gyms are definitely bigger on the inside than they are on the outside...)
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Thanks to Councilwoman Janeese Lewis George (and everyone who raised their voices about domestic terrorists invading our neighborhoods) Airbnb has finally taken action!! *A million thanks to everyone who passed their FBI tips along to local DC authorities & activists! *
Per the Los Angeles Times b/c the WaPo is rag with a Maryland Republican running the editorial board:
>Airbnb is reviewing reservations in the Washington area ahead of next weekβs presidential inauguration and will bar any guests associated with hate groups or violent activity.
The move, announced by the company Monday, comes as some city officials ask Airbnb, VRBO and other rental hosts to take down their listings until President-elect Joe Bidenβs inauguration Jan. 20 is over.
>βThereβs no way to guarantee that your guests are not coming to incite violence,β Janeese Lewis George, a Washington City Council member, said in a post on Twitter. βPlease protect your neighbors and the District from more attacks.β
>Airbnb said it will warn all guests in the Washington region that it may bring legal action against them if they are members of hate groups or if they plan violent activities. Itβs also telling hosts to call a hotline if they suspect guests are violating Airbnbβs policy.
It's not the complete ban some of us in DC were hoping for, but I feel much safer with these measures in place. ~~

How are decisions made? How do you distribute authority and the ability to use force?
Bear with me. I'm watching a show on TLC about children with a rare syndrome where they stop developing at a young age and essentially live as severely impaired toddlers forever. One mother said that her daughter has 80 seizures a day. The children featured are so cognitively impaired they're unable to process anything beyond immediate stimuli like light and touch.
If I had a cat in that kind of condition I would take it to the vet and have it put down. That would be the compassionate choice, in my opinion, because my cat would be suffering. And I have the legal authority to do that as the pet owner.
I understand that when it comes to humans it's impossible to establish a threshold where life stops being "worth living", and that it would be different for every person anyways. But in a situation where a child was truly just in pain and had no real cognitive ability (but was unlikely to die from their condition) could a parent legally euthanize their child?
