Like honestly I had to buy steaphen Kings gunslinger with the movie cover because no one carried the original art work one and this happens everytime a book movie comes out and they put that big stamp that says "now a major motion picture" please god why.
Is it just me or are you guys the same about it
Edit: everyone I am so happy to see a lot of passion in the comments on this post, from personal experience on buying books, knowing why this done and how it can be helpful for people to be readers, to readers enjoying books as a whole.
It's nice meeting all of you!❤
Edit 2: so I just came back from dinner with my family only to see such an explosions of attention, everybody get an invite from friends
I've had this shark tooth ever since I was maybe 11, I found it on a beach on vacation. At the time it was just cool, because what are the chances to just walk on a random beach and find a shark tooth? In time it became an important emotional keepsake for me that reminded me of all the 'good' parts of my childhood. Honestly most of it wasn't very good, so, extra important. I just really like this stupid tooth and whenever I was upset I would just rub it in my hands and feel comforted.
My BF saw it in my room early on and I told him this story and he was like hey cool. To be fair at that point I didn't go in detail, just said it's important to me. Some years went by. We don't live together yet but most of the time he comes to my place because it's larger. One day a few months back I was looking for my shark tooth and it wasn't in the two or three places it has been in. No biggie – I am honestly pretty messy and often 'lose' stuff somewhere only to find it in my sock drawer a week later... keep reading on reddit ➡
In the sixth grade, I bore witness to a stunning example of malicious compliance.
Several grades of classes from our elementary school were called to the gymnasium for some lessons on self-defence. We were to be given some very rudimentary examples of how we, as children, can fight off an attacker if there are no other options. The instructor was a man who had a long martial artist title and was unbearably smug about it. Sure, he'd made some big accomplishments, but he would take every moment available to deliver his lengthy champion title verbatim. Damned if I can remember what it was; it might have been a wilful effort on my part to erase it.
He was instructing us on how to basically go belly-up like a distressed turtle and kick off an attacker. We weren't really understanding how this was feasible, and we were asking a lot of questions about it. He got tired of the questions and called up a volunteer to demonstrate the self-defence technique. He called upon Alice, a girl in my cl... keep reading on reddit ➡
Hello reddit. So, a while ago a friend of mine got me into martial arts. It started as a joke but it’s legit amazing, not only for knowing self-defense but also getting physical activity - I used to go 2-4 times a week, sometimes my wife went with me and sometimes she didn’t. It became my refuge , I noticed that I have been so much more happier since I started and my mind and body is healthy for the first time in a while. Now , she is heavily pregnant and is having issues with her sciatic nerve and it’s causing her a lot pain so her OB ordered her to just chill out and not move a lot. This has resulted in me picking up most if not all household duties and basically wait on her hand and foot which is O.K because she needs me. I don’t mind it at all cos it’s for the greater good. But I stopped going to the martial arts classes entirely. And mentally I’ve been spiralling. It sucks because I don’t like any sedentary stay at home activities like gaming or painting and there’s only so many b... keep reading on reddit ➡
The other day I commissioned an artist to draw my character. I paid $60 for the full body shaded which is a bit pricy (for me) but I assumed maybe this artist takes a long time like 6-7 hours which is why they price it like that, so I understood why. They sent my a sketch not long after I paid and I approved it expecting to wait a while for the finished art. Well what ended up happening is that they sent me the finished artwork early in the next day and I was like that was fast?? The artist said they work quick and plus I got in early on their queue. Out of curiosity I asked them how long it actually took them for the drawing and they said just under two hours..... I know what you’d may be thinking that I should be happy I got the fast service but hear me out. I felt a little bit scammed because I paid $60 only because I thought this artist probably takes a lot of time, so it is worth it to pay a high price for it. But they didn’t even draw for a full two hours... I asked the artist if... keep reading on reddit ➡
Davy Jones alone is an achievement in technical cinema. His character design is flawless. I have yet to see the likes of him represented in the same way - and while a couple films come close, ILM's VFX in Dead Man’s Chest have proven to be timeless. There is not one point in the film where my suspension of disbelief was compromised.
I was dead-convinced Davy Jones was real - like genuinely real-real. I could have sworn it was some sort of combination between animatronics/makeup and masks, but the fact that his character is 100% completely computer generated speaks volumes to the incredible craftsmanship of the animators and artists who worked on this film. Bill Nighy's performance is amazing, too. Truly groundbreaking in all his tentacle porn glory.
I think there's also something to be said about the cinematography. This film is extremely well-shot. Gore Verbinski's camerawork is off-the-charts incredible. I really appreciate the colour grading and distinct use of film grain in... keep reading on reddit ➡
Doing this on a new throwaway because i cannot remember the password to my original throwaway account.
Original Post is Here: OP
She came back after i sent a large apology message, apologizing for laughing at her fan fiction and it was not done out of malice and more out of awkwardness.
We had a long talk about it, i explained i wasn't that comfortable with her keeping such a large amount of her life secret/hidden from me. She also admitted that often times when she was saying she was working late in our home office what she actually meant was she was writing/drawing stuff and just wanted to be left alone.
I told her i had no problem with her hobbies, which made her happy. She also told me that she is so embarrassed because a bunch of it is self inserts of her, and some of it would make me unhappy reading it.
I asked her to show me, and she eventually agreed. I read s... keep reading on reddit ➡
