LPT: One 18 inch pizza contains more pizza surface than two 12 inch pizzas. Calculate the area of a circle and with an 18 inch you get 256 square inches of pizza versus 226 on the 2 mediums. If you want the most bang for your buck, consider the larger sizes and feed more people for less money.

Am I late, or is the equation of the circumference of a circle simply the derivative of the equation of the area of a circle?

The equation of area is A=pi(r^2). If you take the derivative you get A’=pi(2r). Then you just move the 2 up front. I might be totally late to this connection but we learned derivatives this year. Today I made this connection and I don’t know if that was just common knowledge that I never connected.

Seriously i feel like this is something that fits perfectly with the dlc and gives it alot more content. Plus i personally thought we were getting a new circle of slaughter after i watched the first trailer and saw the part where your fighting in the meadow with giant Krieg. And after i played the first mission i was certain that it would become an arena since you fight off an endless horde of enemies for a while, but when you go back there are no quests and enemies don’t spawn anymore after you beat the first mission.

Why is the ratio between the perimeter/circumference of a circle and a regular polygon circumscribing that circle the same as the ratio of the areas of those two shapes? Is there a way to prove this?

I've spot-checked this for shapes with relatively few sides (it holds for triangles, squares, and pentagons). Now I'm curious as to why this is, as well as whether it generalizes to higher dimensions (e.g. whether the ratio between surface areas of a cube and a sphere inscribed within it is the same as the ratio between their respective volumes).

Anybunny in the Billings, MT area wanting to foster a pair of rabbits for Circle 2 Rescue?

I'm a volunteer organizer/recruiter for a local non-profit, Circle 2 Rescue. They are a 501 c 3 rescue organization, focusing on dogs, cats and recently, RABBITS. I have received a call about 2 adult rabbits in need of re-homing, but I have zero room in my own home (I have 15 foster rabbits currently). If you have no experience, but are willing to learn, I would be happy to coach you on rabbit care. Circle 2 Rescue provides the cage, food and veterinary care - you just need to donate your time and love while these bunnies look for their forever home.

P.M. me on reddit if you're interested!

Can we ever know the exact area of a circle if the decimal part of pi is infinite?

Edit: WOW! I'm staggered with the level of response and debate my question has generated! Way more than anything else I have ever put on Reddit. Also, thank you to the anonymous kind stranger for both the coins and the award. That was also unexpected and another first for me.

Just to quickly clarify where my head was with the question, I simply couldn't understand how all the math I'd been taught at school that told me the area of a circle is pi x r^2. I kept thinking that if pi cannot be accurately derived, then how can any formula result that depends on it be accurate either. I just started to think that it would be just a very precise estimate but as a kid I always thought math was an accurate pursuit. Thank you all for an enjoyable debate!

How can you find the area of a circle using integral calculus and is it even possible?

I am very bored at work so I tried to figure out how to obtain pir^2 with calculus but I can't seem to find the a good answer... Is it even possible? I tried doing an integral of many little triangles. My conclusion for now is that with this method you only get constants which means that it is impossible to integrate ( the equation was something like A=int(r(r-x)*sin(Ø/2)) where x is the distance between the middle of the outer side of the triangle and the circle and Ø the angle of the triangle's arch). So I assume that the real question is how many triangles of area x can you fit in a circle of area y.
