If I open up a private practice, instead of hiring a random midlevel (who has objectively never proven competency or work ethic), I'd much rather offer the same $200k per year to a willing PGY2+ psych resident for me to supervise and teach. Then the resident can take off on their own once they feel comfortable enough to practice independently and I would hire a new PGY2+ psych resident to take their place. Does that sound radical? If so, why is it acceptable for midlevels to be using this exact model of high pay straight out of school + on the job training while residents are expected to endure being used as cheap labor for years on end while drowning in debt?
Regardless of your thoughts about this, the rise of midlevels has highlighted how fucked up the terms of our own "mandatory" residency labor are. There is no morally acceptable reason as to why a senior level resident should work twice as many hours only to make half the pay of a brand spanking new online-degree NP. And as much as I fucking hate midlevels, I don't necessarily think they are overpaid as much as I think residents are criminally underpaid for the amount of work we do.
Surely with us entering this massive shortage of teachers it is time to look at making a change. Several states already offer 4th internships surely we can expand this to all degrees even masters ones.
There are currently student teachers that will only day 9 weeks of placements, due to COVID, with a minimum requirement to teach 12 days during that time. Not even close to preparing you for year 1 day 1. No wonder we lose so many new teachers in the first few years.
2011 I was 16 almost 17. Tested out of highschool and bored with life and everything because it wasnt a challange. I started a job thinking id make some quick cash rodding drains I fell in love. Learning about older systems from an old plumber over the years working on more and more things slowly building my confidence and learning to do everything and also having a few good dudes that wouldn't let me fail really set me on the right path which is what I needed at age 16. Today I'm still learning every day and treat every day like I'm that 16 year old kid. I love this trade and ive left it a few times when lay offs happened but theres not a Damn thing I love more and enjoy more I cannot wait till I have 25-35 years experience and truely know it all and can pass on my experience and knowledge to others.
Im so excited, I had to share here! I had a rough few years, nearly 28 years old and didn’t have my life together when I applied. I was blessed enough to pass the aptitude test and interview the first time! The whole process from application to acceptance took about 3 months. Now I just have to go do a drug test somewhere, and wait for orientation. I got the email this morning then called them back to confirm I wanted the offer as inside wireman. Thanks to those who helped me with apprenticeship questions on this sub.
Excited and suddenly so nervous. While I'm not a complete novice around tools I feel like I'm already just drawing a blank on everything. I think it's the unknown on what to expect the first day. I know I can do this though, and I just really really hope I like it. I know I like to work with my hands and actually went to school for metal working. But I think I'm anxious because I had my child young then got a degree I didn't get a job in, then almost got stuck in sales which was supposed to be a temporary job (my numbers were so good they begged me to stay and I did love my team, just didn't like the job). I want to feel like I am not just messing up all the time and can support my family better.
Sorry just an excited/ nervous rant, didn't have anyone else to spill all this too.
Howdy folks. Question for any apprentices who registered this morning - is there any explanation for the approx 40% hike in fees? Was anyone else surprised at that $360 service fee? Or am I out of the loop and should've been aware?

I moved in Scotland a year ago and after some rough work experiences I’ve decided that I want to leave my field of work (I’m a chef) and pursue something else.
I’m an EU citizen and have the pre settled status here so I guess university would may be an option (though not sure since there’s other qualifications required), but I was wondering if you could all give me some input on apprenticeships.
Are they worth it? Can they eventually end up being equivalent to having a proper degree or lead to one? They’re not a thing back in my country (Greece), so I don’t know how it’ll possibly affect my future career if I don’t choose the uni path.
I’m just thinking that if I’m going to ‘restart’ my life, I want to do it properly.
I’ve seen that some of them reward you with the SCQF level 8 or even 10, but I’m so clueless with the system that I’d really appreciate some guidance.

I currently work 30ish hours a week on my own time to supplement my new position. They require you to obtain licenses - not a big deal as they give you 10 years from the start date.
It pays well, about 17/hr and an insane amount of benefits. However I am crawling out of debt, have a baby / and work itself is routinely asking 70 hours a week (which is fantastic in getting me out of the hole). The 70 hours a week is a constantly rotating shift too - which adds to the complexity and difficulty. I switch from day shift, to evenings to midnights. It’s wild.
However the apprenticeship will require an additional 8-12 hours a week of my time, and add to that a ton of homework. That + my side business + baby it’s just not feasible and I’ll have to drop at least one. That will be my side business (I work on cars).
That will really hurt my bottom line, and it’s pushing me to almost reconsider employment. It’s essentially job related training, but it’s not a requirement to attend to get my licenses required. It’s just a “look how well trained and over licensed our staff is” sort of thing, and it’s very frustrating.
The guys in the program now absolutely hate it, and none of it assists in getting the licenses- were basically almost like guinea pigs - a trial that the company is trying to get registered with the state so other companies will though us. Honestly it doesn’t feel like this should be legal to require us to enter the apprenticeship without pay. It’s not like trade school where if you don’t attend- you just don’t get licensed and you never move up. Even if you get your license you still have to attend, and the level of licenses is beyond a legal requirement at that.

I am currently doing a project management apprenticeship at a big global company in the finance industry. After I complete my apprenticeship I will be an associate project manager.
I currently earn 21k / year , what should I negotiate to earn?
The average for pmo is 36k but obviously I'll only have 2 years experience. Is 27k asking for too much when I get a permanent position/ move to another company?
Am asking because I come from low income house hold so being in a big company in a good career is new to me and don't know what I should be expecting or negotiate.
So I started an apprenticeship a few weeks ago.
I just want to say I know I am only a few weeks in. I don't have the highest expectations of my quality of work however I am willing to listen, learn and try my hardest. So far, I have had some good feedback and I haven't done anything that hasn't been fixable.
I sometimes feel awkward at work when I finish a task, like I don't know what task to do next. I will go and ask someone - my boss if he is there, the most senior worker if he isn't - what I should be doing next but it just feels so awkward asking someone what is next or if they need a hand with something.
Sometimes I feel like I don't 'get it' or I don't belong with the experienced painters or that I don't know what I'm doing.
Again, I'm only three weeks in, so I probably don't know what I'm doing.
Are there any apprentices here? Or other people who remember their apprenticeship? How long did that feeling last for you? Or is this feeling something I will feel for the length of my apprenticeship?
Hi y'all, forgive me if this is an easy answer. The whole timeline of the Saw movies is wild so I don't always remember everything. I'm confused about Hoffman and the beginning of Saw V. Saw V opens with Seth Baxters trap, which we know was set up by Hoffman before he became an apprentice. After Seth dies, John finds Hoffman and does his little trap, and the rest is history. So is the beginning of Saw V a flashback and I just don't remember them making that obvious? Or is it just supposed to be common sense that it's a flashback. I just suppose it's strange to me that it opens the movie as if it's set in the current time.

Γνωρίζω πως στο εξωτερικό ο καλυτερος τροπος να μάθει κάποιος την δουλειά του tattoo artist είναι να μπει σε ένα studio ως μαθητευόμενος βοηθός και να καθαρίζει, να βοηθάει με στήσιμο-ξεστήσιμο και να παρακοπουθεί τη δουλειά έως ότου αποφασίσει ο mentor ότι είναι έτοιμος να πιασει μηχανή ξεκινώντας παντα δωρεάν σε φίλους του.
Ο χορος του tattoo όμως είναι σχετικά κλειστός και ακόμα και εγώ που έχω εργαστεί για έναμιση μηνα σε studio, δεν έχω άκρες για να κάνω κάπως apply για apprenticeship σε κάποιο μαγαζί.
Μήπως ξέρει κανεις από εσάς ποια ειναι η διαδικασία που πρέπει να ακολουθήσω;

I’m hopefully going to be starting an electrician apprenticeship in the next month or so.
I’m not going to lie, I have a habit of not seeing things through, I always manage to find something that’s ‘so much better’ than what I’m doing.
I want to see this through, college isn’t for me and I think learning a trade is the right route for me.
I’m expecting it to be hard shitty work. But I’m also looking forward of getting away from retail. Has anyone any advice for a new apprentice?
