My dad and I were watching the news about how some Gorilla could contract COVID-19. My dad said “oh wow, even they can contract it”
All I did was reply “of course, we are a subspecies of the Great Apes, their anatomy is very similar to ours....” (I forgot that Islam rejects the theory of evolution)
Before I could finish my sentence, my dad got angry at me, lecturing me, reminding me what I just said was nonsense. He went on to tell the story of Prophet Adam and Hawa, and how Allah create humans and the Earth perfectly. I’d say he went on about it for 15 mins.
It was his birthday so I just shut myself and didn’t say anything during that 15 mins. It’s moments like this that remind me how we ex-Muslims just can’t be ourselves when surrounded by our loved ones. So thankful for this sub, allowing me to rant about all these
(p.s. I’m not an expert on Covid and Apes)
Edit: Sorry everyone. Please take note that I have misused the word “subspecies”. We are not a subspecies of the Great Apes, but we do have a common ancestor with them. I’d like to thank ya’ll for correcting me. As for my father, as much as I want to correct myself to him, he is a firm believer of creationism and firmly reject the Theory of Evolution. So I am dropping the topic
