Out of curiosity (due to a recent fascination with Antarctica), do Pokémon GO players stationed in Antarctica get to play Community Days since there are no time zones? I’ve heard there are PokéStops and gyms there. Also, are there many active players stationed in Antarctica? Do you rely on satellite phones or are there cell towers of some sort?
Getting anything into space costs thousands of dollars per ounce (28.35 grams). You need to bring everything with you; food, water, fuel, medical supplies, air, and more. It takes years to get there. And then, there is nothing there. You still need all those supplies to live. It even takes 10-20minutes for radio waves to get there.
Now consider Antarctica. It has air, and water. Besides popular opinion, it’s not 100% covered in ice. It is surrounded by fish. And, you can get there by boat in a matter of days or weeks at a cost of a few hundred dollars per ton. You can actually get in and out by aircraft for much of the year.
So, why are we going to Mars? It seems like a distraction.
Okay so basically you can work in Antarctica and you don't need a degree...WHAT?!?!?! THAT IS SO COOL!! Truly this is now my "I wanna be an astronaut". I am not kidding when I say that the idea of potentially being able to work and live in Antarctica is now my reason to live lol
Nothing will ever seem as cool to me again...this is now my 1st ever serious long term goal. I'll fucking do it!
(there was no point to this...I spent most of my day talking about this and annoying everyone around me)
It makes me happy, and I wanted to share.
I just thought of this as I was thinking if Hitman has had a map on every continent. The only one they haven’t had one on is Antarctica, and I think it would be AWESOME if there was one. I think there would be so many opportunities to make it an interesting and unique map.
