Why YSK: I'm posting this because that has always been my answer, and more often than not they look at me like I have three heads, which tells me that it's not a common response they get. While they may need that for you to get a 5% discount next time you go in, the real reason they want it is to sell your information and have you receive unsolicited phone calls. To that I say, no thank you.
Stop telling me "That's not going to happen" when I ask a What If? Question, I'm not trying to ask if it's going to happen or not, I want to know what will happen IF something like that happened. The whole point of a What If? question is to speculate what will happen if something went differently, not to theorize if it will happen or not.
My wife had a wreck 4 months ago and hasn't quite been cleared to drive by her doctor. Since then, i have taken up taking our daughter to daycare before I go to work. Daycare doesn't open until 7:15 and i was scheduled to be at work by 7:00. I talked with my boss about it and he said that it's fine if I clock in at 7:30 instead of 7:00 so I have time to take my kid to daycare.
This has been going on for about 3 months now and there's one co-worker who noticed i come in 30 minutes later than everyone else. He decided to make mention of it and I said, "i had something come up and now my schedule is 7:30". To which he responded "well the posted schedule says you're supposed to be here at 7:00, so I'm confused" it was early in the morning and I'll admit I snapped a bit because it felt like he was asking too many questions for something that really didn't concern him. So I said plainly, "that's an agreement between me and the boss and last time I checked it has absolutely nothing to do with you"
He got butthurt and said i didn't have to say it like that, but he finally got my point.

TL:DR - I teach programming, if you have a question you're stuck on, ask here!
Hello everyone. I started a coding bootcamp 5 years ago and have been teaching people how to code ever since. In our classes, one of the things we teach is what to do when you're stuck. Being stuck happens to everyone, for one reason or another. A lot of the methods to get unstuck are up to that person: if you are frustrated, take a break. If you are confused, step back and look at the bigger picture. If you don't know where to start, make a list and focus on a small part.
When you get stuck because you don't understand a concept, that is much harder for you to deal with on your own. In our school, there are teachers who answer questions and help people get past that wall. On your own, it's harder to find a person to ask, so sometimes you look for multiple tutorials, go over what you've already done again, or end up here asking questions. And so, that's why I'm here today.
I get a small break between sessions and I like to put at least some of that time helping people who are teaching themselves. I learned on my own way back in the day and think it's a valid way for people to join the industry. I try to jump into threads here when I can, to answer individual questions, but don't always have time for good followup or answering a lot of threads. And so, I've set aside today to hang out in r/LearnProgramming to answer questions people have about programming, working in the industry, interviewing, contracting, whatever. It's also nice to have something to distract me from the absurdity that is happening over at wallstreetbets.
As I said, I like to support people learning on their own. Because of that, my school puts out a lot of their resources to whoever wants to see them. One, we stream our classes onto twitch.tv/academypgh - one to support our students so they can go back and watch a video of us teaching, but also to give content out to people who are trying to learn how to program.
We also do lunch and learn/panel events when we're between classes and the instructors are free to do stuff that isn't actively teach a class. These are free and generally run over zoom at the moment. Even when we're not in Covid times, we'll continue doing a lot of these as a mix of online and in person. You can see our current list of upcoming events here: https://www.eventbrite.com/d/online/academypgh/
I'll be here most of the day, and hopefully a few of my previous s... keep reading on reddit ➡
I went on a date on Friday. After thinking about it yesterday, I decided I was not interested in him. I sent him a text letting him know I didn't think we were a match, and wishing him luck. He replied that he would give me time to reconsider and call me me later this week for a second date.
As adults, we all need to learn to take no as an answer. If you're wondering why people ghost, this is why. It seems like I can't get anyone to accept a "no" at face value. Has this been your experience as well?
Be sure to be kind to them! They have had a very hard peak season and even if you don’t have a question for them, it would be nice to tell them how much their hard work means to you and your family this Christmas season!
Edit: The people at r/USPS don’t know where your package is. They don’t have any better way to track it than you do.
Throwaway since she and a few of our friends know each other's reddit accounts. As the title suggests, Our mothers are childhood best friends and we were pretty much raised together., we went to the same schools and are going to the same college as well. She was the first and only girl that I love and I was too much of a coward to ever confess my feelings. It affected my life too much, I couldn't date other people thinking that it would be unfair of me to waste their time when I was in love with someone else, and seeing her with other guys is to this day the worst feeling I've ever felt. I finally decided that I would confess and if the answer was negative, which I was expecting it to be, I would end things off and try to move on with my life.
I asked her out, she cried and said she didn't see me that way and it was a confusing time for her since her boyfriend broke up with her a month and a half ago. It's been a few days now and it's still a sore subject for me how I was the one who got rejected and she cried and made me feel extra worse for loving her. I mean, I am not blaming her or anything. Anyway, I am rambling a bit too much as it's still a fresh wound for me.
Now, I get 5-10+ text and nearly as many video/voice messages from her daily. Messages range from telling me not to give up on our relationship and giving her time as if it will change something to asking me to hang out at our favorite place or inviting me to her home as she cooked me my favorite style of steak. On video/voice messages she ranges from crying to denial/jubilant. My own mother asked me twice if I did something to her. I am already hurting as it is, and seeing her like this makes me want to punch something until I break my fingers but I feel like I have to do what's right for me, otherwise, I am afraid of becoming that guy who lives in the past, never having done anything with his life. I just hope one day I can finally accept the situation between us and become friends again. It's not like I hate her or anything.
She asked me to give her time but I am not sure if I can do that. I've spent more time with her than my own parents throughout my life and if I cave in and stay with her now I feel like I won't be able to move on when she rejects me again. And I am angry at my mother as well who asked me to talk with my best friend at least 5-6 times since that incident saying that she was hurting. She's supposed to be my mother, does she not realize this is a tough situation for me?... keep reading on reddit ➡
We’ve been together for 8 years but got our first apartment together in January 2020. MIL was annoyed about us moving out because she liked having access to extra money. She’s very controlling, a bit manipulative and tries to act innocent 24/7.
My grandmother has Stage IV colon cancer and I have been her sole caretaker. I was up all night caring for her and went to rest my head at 8am. At 8:45am, I was woken up by her VIOLENTLY banging on my front door, saying “I know you’re in there!!!” She also had her 9yo son banging on the door and even tried to get in with a card!
We simply stayed quiet and ignored her because she knows better... and we do not accept the breach of privacy. We also do not accept potential COVID exposure to my ill grandmother...
So she goes the back door and started banging too! Like mad! And then... she bangs on our neighbors door... and then after a little bit, the police are on our lawn and so they begin knocking... We ignore it because the police can’t just demand us to talk to her, you know? What the heck?!
And so I called the police station and I explain a little bit like... “she’s been knocking like crazy, she probably wants money or something, which is a usual, and she knows not to show up. We’re fine.” The officer asks if we’re “anti-cop” and says we need to show our faces out the window because MIL said we weren’t okay—to try to get us to come out—which my bf did not want to do that... because it’s a game to her, you know?
And finally, after a while, he showed his face from the window and the cops walked away immediately and she just walked away crying.
Now she’s texting me trying to act like she’s concerned when she was being vicious at the door, saying stuff violently like, “I FUCKING HEARD YOU IN THERE.”
Should I just tell her straight up that she’s not welcome here?
I dislike her for many reasons, I mean... he’s 26, I’m 24... and she wants access to our bank accounts like... what? I’m paying my own way through college, she isn’t getting money from us. I just don’t get it.
We've finished the AMA now, thanks for all your questions. Sorry we couldn't get to everyone but I think we covered most bases :)
We're some of the devs from the Evil Empire team - the rabble who are continuing the development of Dead Cells while Motion Twin work on their next project.
If you don't know what Dead Cells is, in short it's a roguevania (a mashup of a roguelite and a metroidvania) that puts you in control of a failed alchemic experiment trying to figure out what's happening on a sprawling, ever-changing and seemingly cursed island. Released in 2018 on Switch, it's won multiple awards for its frantic but smooth 2D action.
So, there's a few big things happening for us right now on Nintendo Switch, which is why we're here to answer some questions!
First up is the Fatal Falls DLC that we released yesterday. In these two new mid-game levels you'll explore floating islands & infiltrate the lair of an outlawed secret society in the Fractured Shrines, then try not to fall as you wind your way along sheer coastal cliffs while dodging creepy necromancers at the Undying Shores. If you make it through all that, there's an angry new boss waiting for you at the end - good luck!Seven new weapons are also included in the DLC, including the new Brutality pet Serenade, a sarcastic & bloodthirsty flying sword who was introduced in our animated trailer which dropped yesterday - https://youtu.be/ERbtq7Wp_xo
Yesterday also saw the beginning of the free trial week of Dead Cells for Nintendo Switch Online users in Europe & Australia. So if anything you see here interests you, give it a go for free and if you like it that's great, if not then no harm done :)
Finally, we have our first ever 50% discount running right now, so if you've always been interested in Dead Cells and have been waiting for the right time, it might be now.
Anyway, that's enough infodumping, we have 6 guys here ready to answer any of your questions so fire away!
