Earlier when I made a post discussing why some Pokemon appear to change species when they evolve (Carvanha to Sharpedo, Remoraid to Octillery, Trumbeak to Toucannon, etc.), I was told that since Pokemon are essentially their own species, traditional biological classifications cannot be applied to them. Examples being an evolutionary family of seemingly different species would still count at least as one genus, and given how many of them can crossbreed, a respective phylogenic map would be a very tangled web. In other words, "species" and "evolution" in Pokemon are different terms to their traditional definitions.
A very detailed comment I really liked told how any gendered Pokemon could be the ancestor or descendant of another, while some not being able to breed directly, Pokemon could be a giant ring species (a term I only just learned about) resulting from adaptive radiation and convergent evolution. And Legendaries, like Lugia, can reproduce, they just won't in captivity. Of course, the only problem with that theory is ring species never make a complete circle, as the two ends become to different from each other to breed, while many complete circles in Pokemon crossbreeding can be madee.g. Wooper>Rhyhorn>Lapras>Wooper. They also suggested that based on evolutionary logic, Mew may in fact NOT be the ancestor to all Pokemon, but a rare result of crossbreeding between all species, hence Mew having the genomes of all Pokemon, and what the Pokedex says may only be guesswork and legend, which all makes perfect sense. [I wanted to give an award to the comment but I didn't have any coins and I couldn't pay for buying any, but I'm worried the reason people since downvoted the original post was because they thought I was being cheap.]
It's even been applied in some canons like The Electric Tale of Pikachu manga (first volume) and Pocket Monsters: The Animation, that Pokemon are not related to animals, and are all one species due to genetic similarities, and subspecies include "Animal, Grass, Insect, etc." the names of what would become "Egg Groups" - the most canonical way to biologically classify Pokemon.
A comment to another post on the subject, someone said that Pokemon could have a special kind of Triple-stranded DNA (also a term I only just learned) where the third strand somehow takes in the genes of plants and animals in the environment, and i... keep reading on reddit ➡

My entire childhood, I looked up to this man as one of the greatest Muslim rulers, and as a result played half my Civ games as him, and now I discovered while looking through a family tree, trying to find out how my family has an Uzbek surname despite having links to Hejazi tribes, that the man I idolized the most, was my ancestor. Pretty cool eh?
I am watching Godfather Part 2 and there Vito Corleone leaves Italy because he's hunted by the mafia.
Was it like that for your ancestors? If not, why did they leave? Why did Europe stop cutting it for them?
Did they not like Europe?
I run a private campground. I treat winter as a time to stay indoors with a cozy book and some hot chocolate. I wouldn’t say I relax, not with all the various winter monsters that lurk in the woods, and especially not this year. But with spiders crawling in my lungs every night (no I’m not letting you forget about that particular visual) I’ve at least bought myself some breathing room. (hah)
I did get to curl up with a good book by the fireplace, at least. Or rather, a journal that’s been printed on the world’s shittiest office printer. Seriously, this thing had to recalibrate itself three times (and whose idea was to make the calibration page print in color? Color ink is expensive and money is tight around here, asshole) and I had to reinstall the drivers once.
I really wanted to drag it outside and beat it to within an inch of its life. And then beat it some more, throw its remains in the dumpster, and go buy a new one made by ANYONE OTHER THAN HP. The only thing that saved the printer’s life is that it is still very cold outside and now there’s a windchill making it even worse.
But it finally got the job done and now I can go back to pretending it doesn’t exist until it infuriates me again. I swear I have Stockholm syndrome with this thing because I say this every time it malfunctions and I’ve had it for three years.
I’m looking for specific information in this journal. I have a hunch on how to deal with the thorns. I just need a way to act on it and I’m hoping this will give me some ideas. Instead, I found myself getting sidetracked and reading whatever was in front of me, for pages and pages. I finally gave up and started at the beginning.
I feel I should share one of his… adventures… with all of you.
My ancestor’s writing is effusive. It flows from page to page as he captures the grief and the pain he felt down on paper. Were I to merely recite the facts, this post would only be a few paragraphs. I feel that would do a disservice to my ancestor. His words were not merely to record, they were to capture his e... keep reading on reddit ➡
The results were interesting since my family doesn't have a family tree or records about my ancestors. My parents are from Ecuador, I was born there too. My parents told me that my grandfathers were also from Ecuador but that's the farthest I could go, when I asked them if any of our ancestors lived in Mexico they said no and it was surprising for them too.
EDIT: I'm a guy lol didn't think my selfie would be somewhat deceiving
Why do I keep running into men who feel like they need to proclaim they’re part Viking or part Native American warrior or part Germanic Goth whose great greatx10 grandfather helped over throw the Roman Empire. No Ian, you aren’t part Viking your ancestors were the peasant farmers from England that the Vikings killed.
I had a very short relationship with a guy who claimed to be a descent of great Vikings. On the 2nd date I was curious about his beard. It wasn’t super long but it was a nice size so I asked him why he decided to grow one. He said with a straight face–I shit you not–“Oh! I’m part Viking!” Then proceeded to on a rant about Viking culture. When we would hang he would make serious comments like “It’s Odin’s will!”, “When I die I’m going to Valhalla.” Keep in mind this man was raised Christian and he never practiced Nordic paganism. I made the mistake of introducing him to my friends and he made it a point to bring up him being “part Viking” in nearly every conversation.
He was a total loser in life (This was in my pickme days) no ambition, college drop out, living with his parents, his goals would change every couple of months and he had no clear objectives to reach those goals, alcoholic etc.
Even if they ARE part Viking, who gives a shit? Is that suppose to make you more exotic or more appealing? Yea, you’re part Viking but you spend most of the day playing video games and watching porn. You haven’t done a day of manual labor in your life, you get squeamish at the sight of blood and you don’t have an ounce of the courage, bravery and ambition that they had. I’m sure your ancestor would be real proud /s
I have a theory that men who are living an unsatisfying and unfulfilled life have a need to fake their ancestry or constantly brag about it to give themselves a personality.
Is claiming false ancestry or trying to ride on your ancestors accomplishments a red flag to you all too?
