TIFU by yelling “I bet you wish you were back in Africa” to my black coworker across a busy parking lot.
This was not today but last winter (I am in Ohio so it gets very cold). A funny tale of accidental racism. I work as a night nurse at a busy hospital. A good friend/coworker of mine is from Liberia in Africa. We will call him Jim. We had been friends for a few years before this and my friend had just gotten back from a month long trip to Liberia to see his family.
We had just finished a crazy night shift and were walking out to our cars outside the hospital. Now this being pre-corona the parking lot was swarming with patients’ families and workers coming in for their day shift. It was about 20 degrees F (-7C) out that morning and snow was coming down like mad. So Jim starts walking more towards his car and I towards mine. It being so cold I shout out “HEY I BET YOU WISH YOU WERE BACK IN AFRICA HUH JIM”. It took me about 2 seconds to realize how bad that sounded. As I look around to see if anyone noticed about 6 people were looking at me baffled.
The next day I told him what happened

The world needs to stop lumping all Africans together. Africa is a very diverse, multi-cultural continent, with very complex issues that are very difficult to approach and solve.
Africa is often referred to as a "country" and the people are often seen as a monolith. Africa is quite diverse, consisting of a mixture of countries with various ethnicities that each have their own unique characteristics.
Around a hundred languages are widely used for inter-ethnic communication. Arabic, Somali, Berber, Amharic, Oromo, Igbo, Swahili, Hausa, Manding, Fulani and Yoruba are spoken by tens of millions of people. The total number of languages natively spoken in Africa is variously estimated (depending on the delineation of language vs. dialect) at between 1,250 and 2,100, and by some counts at "over 3,000". Nigeria alone has over 500 languages (according to SIL Ethnologue), one of the greatest concentrations of linguistic diversity in the world.
Africa has a large amount of different ethnic groups, each with their own languages. Africa has an incredibly high amount of genetic diversity [due to an assortment of environmental factors throughout the continent as well as hu

Just because we are live in Africa doesn’t mean we don’t have basic amenities
Hey guys, newbie here
I’m African and I’ve realized that whenever I start talking to someone online and I mention that I do in fact live in Africa, the entire conversation goes sideways and then it becomes “how do you have internet?” “ do you see lions frequently?” And other weird questions like that. And I’m not the only one who gets questions like that.
My mum went to the USA a couple years back for an internship at a Montessori school. She still keeps in touch with one of the teachers there via email and Facebook. But last week when they were talking about ideas for online school during this pandemic, the lady still asked if there was access to electricity and internet in our community. My mum was quite irritated and she had to explain that yes, we have internet access in our homes and business and that’s how we’re able to use social media and email.
I understand that the media in these places depicts Africa as a place where people wear leaves and hides and sleep in huts but do

Here's a story from someone who lived through 3 civil wars in West Africa.
A fellow Prepper posted this in a different prepper group (not Reddit). I thought everyone could benefit from his story.
Here's My SHTF Experience:
I grew up in West Africa and lived through Civil Wars in 3 nations: Liberia, Sierra Leone & Gambia. Literally as we escaped to another country, war broke out there (the point of that is unrest in one location can turn into unrest in a neighboring location)
I learned many lessons from these experiences and hope that my experience can be of some benefit to you as you prepare for whatever comes.
When society deteriorates, it's ugly. The majority of people are not prepared. During the first few days, people hold onto hope that things will go back to normal and someone will save them. For that week, many are largely in denial that what's going on will last longer than a few days.
About a week into a SHTF event like a civil war, people become EXTREMELY desperate. Parents start begging for food for their children, etc.

Why is South Africa in the G20?
Their economy is tiny (36th largest in the world and falling), they're basically non-existent geopolitically and they're not even the largest economy on Africa anymore. Surprisingly, I don't see any people questioning what they're doing in a club among the richest countries on the planet in the first place.
If the G20 wants at least one African country on board they should just replace them with Nigeria, otherwise Thailand or Switzerland would be good replacements as well.

Let's all go back to Africa!
North Africa was never ever black and Afrocentrists need to stop their extremely dangerous appropriation of Berber history.
No the Moors weren't black. I'm tired of African Americans massively retweeting lies and making people of other communities believe this nonsense too. The only Black people in North Africa were slaves, the few (less than 5%) black people you can find in Maghreb are called Haratins and they're descendant of their slaves, North Africa's native people aren't Black and never were, you can go back to North African kings of Roman Era and their face in the coins clearly show the facial features of a Berber.
There is also no trace of Black DNA in today's Spanish or Portuguese people despite the Moors having colonized them, however you can find MENA DNA in the DNA tests of many people of these countries .
At least when it comes to Greece or Rome, many people are aware that such blackwashing of history is nonsense and it isn't harming anyone in the end.
However North African culture beyond Egypt is mostly unknown to the average person and they can EASILY be fooled by all this nonsensical

"Aryans sailed to Africa and brought them Iron!"
Where to begin?
Much like my last post on lynching, this was an old internet page that I thought was too stupid to be true.
Here's the first slip and fall into logic and research.
>Notice the high instance of R1b in the exact same spot as the origin of the spoked wheel chariot. The most likely way such a genetic hotspot could exist after all those centuries of invasion was if it was the source.
>But what could be the reason for the R1b hotspot in Africa, along the Camaroon/ Nigerian border? According to the Chariot map, Aryans were crossing the channel into England around 500BC, so they must have had some seafaring capability in the 6th century BC.
He believes that, paralleling the expansion of Aryans into the British Isles, Aryans used their sailing skills to arrive in Central Africa.
Before anyone starts playing Devil's advocate, it's been known since (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplogroup_R1b#External_phyl

As an African, I feel some Black activists in developed countries appropriate the image of Africa for their own political fights.
This post was removed and I was banned and muted from unpopularopinion. I am sure I didn’t break any rules. I just added 2-3 sentences for clarity.
People using it for appreciation towards Africa or to connect with their roots, that’s beautiful. But using it as a political symbol for issues that have nothing to do with African countries it’s hypocrite, I think:
- Africa has 54 countries and +3.000 ethic groups; each of them with their own issues. African’s problems have little to do with police brutality in EEUU or elsewhere. But they use the image of Africa like we are “all together in this” as one big country. It is not. As I said we have diverse problems: ethnic fights, starvation, emigration
