Edit: ok Iβm not talking about every new account, just the suspicious ones that only ever comment telling people itβs over they should sell. If youβre new and supportive we still love you π€
Iβm just gonna come out straight and say it: you are hurting yourself more than helping when you spread information that is ignorant and not based in reality.
Last Thursday and Friday, there was all of this talk of a Gamma Squeeze, βitβs going to happen, oh yeah definitely so long as we close above the magic and imaginary number of $320. Donβt worry, shorts wonβt cover until Tuesday so you can be patient, wait it outβ
Every fucking time you degenerates give a deadline, you create another opportunity for disappointment. Stop it. No one knows whatβs going to happen or when.
Yes, monkeys strong together, but also monkeys stupid together. Itβs a fine sentiment. The culture stuff is less so.
Is this subreddit really going to turn into such a dumbass fucking echo chamber that every single time the stock goes down we scream βshort ladder!β βMarket manipulation!β βFake news!β
Because while all of these things are possible, itβs also a FUCKING VOLATILE MARKET. And every single time someone says that something in it is guaranteed, theyβre setting themselves up for failure.
So yeah, FUCKING hold, obviously. But donβt gamble away your life savings.
Obviously but the dip. But ask yourself where you genuinely want and believe the stock youβre investing in to be.
Also. βShorts have x days to cover, itβll go up then!!β And βGME is now on the short restriction list!! That means that we literally canβt lose nowβ are fucking stupid. Not based in reality. Look, we all want our tendies. We all want them to be guaranteed. But this is a war of attrition.
And thereβs no such thing as guaranteed success.
If you like the stock, buy it. If you think, based on a whim, or research, or for any fucking reason that convinces you that a stock is going to go up, then buy the stock. Look at DFV: He didnβt invest because he thought a massive short squeeze was going to drive his value investment into the 8 or 9 digits, and he didnβt sell when he was at almost 50mil- you know why?
Because he believes in the fucking company and isnβt here to get a quick buck.
Buy low. Sell high. Fomo is fucking stupid.
And make your own god damned decision.
πππ
Eventually.
There seems to be a lot of interest in stocks from young investors. I imagine that many will make their way from WSB to this sub because WSB is a bunch of monkeys flinging poo. You may have lost some money and now you want to explore stocks from less of a Meme and emotional perspective.
There is nothing wrong with Meme stocks. Meme stocks can be fun. I have had fun with it. I am also a 42-year-old man with rental properties, commercial properties, and a few small businesses. BB, NOK, AMC, and even GME are all fine. The DD is fine behind all of them. The issue is that if I lose $1,000 then I can write myself a check from one of my businesses for $10,000 to make myself feel better. That is not a brag...it is simply sharing that people come from different places in life.
You are just starting off life and probably have far fewer resources and every dollar matters more.
I challenge anyone to CMV but I am not a big proponent of stocks as a core investment strategy. Here are my reasons why.
I like stocks as a small part of an overall investment strategy for young people for the following reasons.
Building wealth through stocks is like

Apologies for the clickbait title but rest assured, thereβs no scam here. Iβve come up with a list of time-tested, foolproof ways to save money that are infinitely more reliable than whatever investment scheme youβre cooking up. And speaking of cooking:
Doordash, ubereats, skip-the-dishes, delete them from your fucking phone right now. Learn to cook rice, vegetables and inexpensive proteins like beans, chicken, pork, tofu, chickpeas etc. Does your food taste like shit? Buy some salt, pepper and garlic. Thatβs all it takes to start. Is your food over/under done? But a meat thermometer. Stop buying $10 lunches and $3 coffees. I used to buy $3 coffee every day. Thatβs $60 a month. On COFFEE. I bought a $50 coffee maker and it paid itself off in 2 months. Now Iβve owned it for 3 years.
Brush twice a day. Try to do the same with flossing, but no one ever does it, so try to start once a week. You know why dentists make so much money? You know why they see your mouth as a goldmine? Because you wonβt be able to put up with your painful, busted ass teeth for your whole life and youβre going to need them fixed. Taking care of your teeth cuts down on the amount of times over your life that youβll wake up in the morning going βow, my tooth hurts, wonder whyβ and then suddenly youβre out $500... or $2000...
Do you need a flashy, expensive (or even mid-range car) to impress clients at your job? No? Then itβs OK to drive a shitbox. Do you need a suit for work? No? Then itβs OK to buy your daily workwear from somewhere like Costco or Walmart. Those are your low-priority items. If you rip a hole in your $10 Walmart work shirt, throw it out and replace it. However, the flip side of that is, if you need to have a suit (or a flashy, expensive car) on-hand... TAKE CARE OF THEM. Donβt wear your nice suit and dress shoes out in a snowstorm... donβt skip the oil change on the car. If youβre tech savvy, you can keep your beater smartphone or laptop meeting your needs for a long time. Do you need a top-of-the-line gaming rig? If so, spend the money on long-lasting parts (I.e. CPU), and take care of your rig; clean it regularly, watch the temps, try not to get malware. Iβm still wearing a jacket I bought 10 years ago.
Buy long-lasting footwear - itβs insanely easy to spend a lot of money on cheaply-
... keep reading on reddit β‘I take your carefully crafted message that I receive from my non-technical department admin assistant (which she helpfully forwarded to everyone in the purchasing chain, the systems team, the network team, the help desk and some of the C suites as an FYI) and I scan it, relishing the loathing it fuels within me like the heat inside a midnight blue El Camino with black vinyl seats parked facing west outside the Al Basch Chicken on Sunset in Mid-July around 4 pm. The kind of heat that makes your adenoids ache with every breath and forces you to pant just to keep the edges of your vision coherent. Despite the physical stress, my next actions are clear:
I type your email into the shell script that purges it from the mail cluster, then I block your entire mail domain in the spam filter. Finally, I blackhole it for malicious content so no one will accidentally browse it.
Then, and only then, does the anger abate and I am at peace. But I welcome this, so I know when we next need some sort of service, your firm will be struck off the list before we even start the search.
Please note: if I want your services, I will contact you.
This was just so cute. I vented because I feel just dreadful, and a bunch of guys started asking questions like "do you have a heating pad?" "Have you ever tried midol?" "Have you talked to your doctor about birth control options?" "Maybe some tea would help?"
Like where did you learn all of that? The men in my life don't know that. My dad thought my period was some sort of horrible infection, one of my friends reached into my bad and screamed when he touched a tampon, and my bf is supportive but im pretty sure he just knows my period is the sleepy crying time π it Added some sweetness to an otherwise painful and terrible day.
Oh and one more thing. Not a single surprise dick pic. Not one π₯°
Edit: Ended up seeing my own post get spread online. I apologize to anyone I may have hurt.
I genuinely believe that infidelity and breakup/divorce rates would sky rocket.

Edit: WOW! I did not expect this to blow up, like it has! Thank you, for the awards and for all of the comments! I love reading through all of the conversations in the replies.
The only thing that I'd like to point out: Contraception. A lot of people are asking about protection. Protection is amazing. It is wonderful. Everyone should find a method that works for them and their body type, and use it... However... Not a single method on the market is 100% successful. There is always a chance that it will fail. And, for those failures, abortion should always be a safe and easily accessible option.
Well, congratulations. You guys have positioned yourselves to be in the best position imaginable tocapitalize on a perfect scenario that will explode your customer base and membership moving forward.
You still have one mountain to climb, however.
YOUR USER INTERFACE IS EMBARRASSINGLY TERRIBLE. I am well aware of the time, effort, energy, and capital youβve spent building your app and website over the years, and thatβs great. However, RobinHood has walked the fucking dog on you when it comes to simplicity, ease of use, and approachability. Theyβve brought millions of new investors to the market, and have had world changing successes of which Iβm sure youβre all well aware of (you know, like when they changed the game my forcing you to make trades free?).
Iβm a Gen X Millennial, and although I may be able to adapt to your convoluted-ass website and mobile app, a lot of the future investors will not have the patience or inclination to do the same. You have to change it, and do it quickly. It needs to be sleek, modern, and user-friendly. You donβt have to copy RobinHood (hell, why would you want to?), but you do have to come up with something that can keep the influx of new customers from jumping ship once their aboard, and Iβm not talking about making it hard for us to leave, you have to make it easy for us to stay.
The last weekβs debacle is as best an opportunity as youβll ever have to catapult yourself into the front of your industry. Itβs the World Series, bottom of the 9th, the bases are loaded, and youβre down by 3. RobinHood is pitching with a broken arm, and you are the batter with the .989 average.
Will you hit the Home Run, or let the ball roll across home plate?

I overheard my husband saying to our son (19), βDealing with your motherβs periods for 25 years I know what to do, Do Not Engage! If your girlfriend wants to fight, do not engage. You should occasionally check on her then back away slowly. You may need to throw chocolate and run.β
Let them.
The point of the game is to have fun, and as long as they come up to me beforehand, and remain consistent, I let them.
I had a player want to play a food-themed sorcerer. The effects of the spells remained the same, just the names and my description of the aftermath changed:
Fireball became Mama's Spicy Meatball, Touch of Fatigue became Touch of Low Blood Sugar, Summon Monster became Summon Ingredient and led to the player summoning anything they might cook (never did, but summoning a chicken swarm instead of a rat swarm became a go-to of his)
Consistency was key, and I waved food/water rules for the remainder of the game (but I only ever use those for survival-themed games anyway).
EDIT: Holy banana bread, Batman! My first Reddit award! Thank you!
EDIT 2: Jiminy Jillikers! Thank you for the gold!
I know, I know and I'm forever kicking myself. I want to open a Roth IRA before filing my taxes this year and am thinking of using Fidelity or Vanguard. I know next to nothing about investing and the stock market and I would appreciate any advice. I would like to invest in renewable energy and funds that include companies like Amazon, if that's possible. Thank you!
EDIT 1: I do have a retirement account through work, but haven't voluntarily contributed anything yet. I also have a decent amount of savings and a pension from a previous job that will be available in a few years. I gross ~57k annually, right now.
EDIT 2: Thank you all, so much, for your replies. I'm going through each one and taking notes, because I set up a meeting (at no cost) with a retirement specialist from Vanguard through work. I checked out my HR info and in addition to the main retirement plan 403(b) where they make contributions on my behalf, there is also a voluntary retirement savings program 403(b) (contribute from 1-80% of eligible pay, up to the IRS annual limit) pre-tax or Roth after-tax, where employees are automatically enrolled (even though it says I'm not enrolled) to contribute 3% on a pre-tax basis and they will match the pre-tax and Roth savings combined to a max of 3% of eligible pay. So, I know I should up that contribution percentage to the max I can afford. I just need to figure out what that is.
Today I lost my job, I relocated to Denver a little over a month ago for work and was fired today for "not being the best fit for the company" I have some money saved up however I will only be able to make it a month or maybe a month and a half before I run out of money, I signed a 6-month lease in December and between rent, car payments, and student loan payments I owe $1650/ month. I applied for unemployment however I am unsure if I will receive it since I have only worked for about a month. I have been applying to jobs online and reaching out to any connections I may have but since graduating college it took me over 8 months to find this job so I am worried. I will be applying to service industry jobs asap. is there anything I am missing, I am very worried this is going to financially ruin me if I cant figure something out quick.
Edit: since many people are saying I should break my lease and move home itβs not really an option, my parents kicked me out of the house and I was living on a family members couch for a few months in a town I didnβt know anyone in.
Edit 2: Wow Iβm overwhelmed by everyoneβs words of support, thank you to everyone!
Edit 3: since a lot of people are commenting, me and my parents have a decent relationship, they kicked me out because they come from a Tuff-love generation and they think that it will motivate me to work harder, no handouts all that jazz...
I want to thank everyone who took the time to offer their advice and opinions to me. I read every single one of them, some of them several times. Some of it was a gut punch, some of it really scared the crap out of me (Kids credit info, my credit info, MIL establishing residency) but I needed to hear it. This is what I've done since reading everyone's advice: 1) I went to the Post Office and gave all 59 pieces of mail that I've collected of my MIL and turned them in as someone fraudulently using my address. I then met with our postman at our mail box and told him this person does not live at this address and is not legally allowed to get mail here. He thanked me and said he would no longer deliver MIL mail to my address. 2) I called a Locksmith and they will be here tomorrow at 10 a.m. and he is changing all the locks in the house. Best $69.99 I could have spent. 3) I changed all the codes to the keyless entries and the codes to our homes alarm system, I'm now the only one who has them. I can turn them off or on from my cell phone. 4) Put a new Ring Camera Doorbell at the door to go with the Ring Security Camera over the Garage and Driveway. I put a camera in the garage, outside the gate, in our master closet. 5) Reached out to a counselor that does family counseling, first appointment is the 17th. 6) Game my wife a choice. She can be married to me and have strict boundaries with her mom or she can live with her mom and see the kids every two weeks with split custody. She said she does not want that and knows her mother has boundary issues. I explained to her that I don't want to take it out on her (My wife) but I'm human and this has been going on for 14 years and nothing has changed. In fact, the harder we push back the harder her mom pushes. I told my wife in simple terms that I Love her, I love our family but I didn't sign on for this level of crazy. I want to wake up on a Saturday morning to just my family. My wife and my kids and that's it. I told my wife that her mom has lost all privileges of visitation to our home until I give her permission. My SIL confirmed that my MIL did take it upon herself to change her address to ours without asking as she was sitting there this last weekend when my wife asked her why her mail was coming here. I told my wife her mother does not get a key and that my next step with the mail was me going to the police and that she's not going to stay here at our house anymore. I told her that her mother is not going to l
... keep reading on reddit β‘I'm been in tech for 20+ years. I've picked good companies to work for, and shitty ones. I've made decent money and gone years where hours worked took me away from my friends, family and my sanity.
Recently I've come to the conclusion I'm too old to put up with any more BS from execs, staff and VCs. Everyone expects slave hours (i guess its because they buy your time and brain). Tech is really a young persons game and I am out of gas. I can't keep up anymore with 12-15 hour days, 6 days a week.
Over thr past year I've been manually backtesting and aa well dabbling in daytrading with live cash (upwards of $35k per trade). I've made a bit, lost a bit but I'm up overall. I really love it to be honest.
I'm not looking to jump right in as my day job but I'm curious to hear your stories on how you segued into making day trading your career.
Info on me: mid-40s, spouse is professional, 2 school aged kids. Me (Eng leader at tech startup) living in Canada. Have $80k in cash available. On TD Direct Investing trading only on CDN exchanges for now.
