difference between adi parashakti, parvati, durga, and tripura sundari?

hello everyone! i am extremely new to hinduism and shaktism despite being indian and raised in a hindu household. i've been doing a lot of googling lately as i am starting out developing my religious / spiritual practice and i understand from my upbringing that, generally, most hindu deities are avatars of a set of main gods / goddesses. however, i am very confused by the difference between adi parashakti, parvati, durga, and tripura sundari.

i understand that shakti is the essential life force / primordial energy source of the universe

i understand, then, that adi parashakti is the goddess personification of shakti (or is this wrong?)

what i don't understand is the chronological order of the different deities. are durga and tripura sundari later-on avatars of parvati (e.g., how kali was born from durga's forehead)? also, online i have seen lakshmi and saraswati being mentioned.

basically, i am just so confused lol. please help!

Real life counterparts to TES Races: A study.

You've seen a post like this a million times. A good one was made just the other week. But the information on these posts always feels a little lackluster to me, so I wanted to try and do a proper research project to help consolidate the information that's out there.

Youtube pickings on this topic also felt lackluster, so I've put together a video with most of this information for those who prefer a more visual format. If that method of learning appeals to you, I would love your feedback on how I did.

Most of us have probably made some correlation between the Elder Scrolls races and IRL historical cultures. After all, most fantasy worlds draw direct inspiration from historical civilizations. Ultimately, no TES culture completely mirrors one IRL culture, but I thought it would be fun to come up with civilizations as close as possible, and why (as much as possible). To make my judgements, I'll be comparing using a combination of:

  • Traditions & Stories
  • Dress
  • Language
  • Architecture

Some races will get more love than others, but that's usually because there was less need to prove a point, or there wasn't anything else interesting for me to add. Because of my affinity for Argonians, I will start with Black Marsh and go in a counter-clockwiseish movement. Enjoy the fruits of some months of research!

Argonians - Mesoamericans

Equal parts Aztec + Mayan. At first glance, this is given away aesthetically by their feathery dress, swampland, icons, stone pyramids, culture revolving around impermanence, etc. But their names and language tell a deeper story. After some study, I've decided that Uto-Aztecan Nahuatl most reflects the Argonian Jel language.

  • Jel names are made of up consonant sounds most common in Nahuatl, including Nahuatl's famous "tl" sound
  • Both languages use similar consonant glottal stops - while Mayan includes ejective stops
  • Jel lacks plurality. Aztec & Mayan have plurality rules, but Nahuatl allows for limited plurality.
  • Jel word order is **OSV

The Mythological Origins of the Summons from Final Fantasy VII: Post #2.) Shiva

Hello everyone and welcome all to my second post on the world-wide beliefs that inspired the summons from Final Fantasy VII. I would like to start out by saying thank you all for such the warm reception to my first post on this topic. Your kind, thoughtful, and encouraging words have absolutely made my day! I definitely did not expect that kind of reception and it warms my heart to know that there is a significant number of people who, like me, also find this topic to be extremely interesting. I would like to thank you all for giving me a platform to express my interests, but I don't think I can adequately express how happy you all have made me. So, I would like to say thank you, thank you, thank you!

If you would like to check out my first post on the Ifrit summon, you can find it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/FinalFantasyVII/comments/gtw76c/the_mythological_origins_of_the_summons_from/

Now, without further ado, let's talk about Shiva. And I will have to give a forewarning. I do find Hinduism to be a very complex subject, so if any of my information is incorrect or lacking, I most certainly invite you to add to wherever I may falter.

#2.) Shiva:

Another one of the most iconic summons in Final Fantasy, Shiva is presented as a blue-skinned woman with an affinity towards the element of ice, acting as a sort of polar opposite (pun intended) to Ifrit. The real-world Shiva is actually a male god from Hinduism who is a member of the trinity (called the Trimūrti) of principal deities that together represent the overall functioning of the universe. As members of this trinity, Shiva’s role is to be “the destroyer/transformer”, while Brahma is “the creator” and Vishnu acts as “the preserver”. Shiva is typically depicted as the creator and foremost practitioner of Yoga, possessing a third eye which famously incinerated the love god Kamadeva, and having the crescent moon on his head as w

The Serendipity of Parvati's Banner

So for those who don't know, right now a major Hindu religous festival/occasion is taking place called Navaratri or the Nine Nights. This is THE event in dedication of Devi, the Supreme Goddess, in the specific forms of Lakshmi Devi, Saraswati Devi, and perhaps most importantly Durga Devi, a form of Parvati Devi. Each goddess gets three days, with the first three going to Durga Devi, then Lakshmi Devi and Saraswati Devi. Unfortunately, it seems that the day the banner drops will be after the period dedicated to Durga Devi, but still things have worked out really nicely for those Hindus who also play FGO.

The mythological significance of these dates is, if i recall correctly, these are the nine days where Durga Devi fought and slew the buffalo-like Demon King Mahishasura, who had asked and recieved a blessing that he could not be killed by a man, thinking himself invincible due to believing himself greater than any woman. Parvati Devi decided to deal with this herself, and transformed into one of her more warlike forms, Durga Devi, and took the greatest weapons of the Hindu Gods and slew Mahishasura with them. In FGO, Passionlip's claws are incarnations of these weapons, as her saint graph was built using Parvati and Durga's.

This festival, in general, is celebrating the Supreme Goddess, who is not Parvati Devi herself. It is more that Parvati Devi, Lakshmi Devi, etc are all incarnations of that Supreme Being. Devi is called as Adi Parashakti (That Limitless Power, which was before all others and thus implied to be the source of everything). Shakti, or Power, is generally regarded as feminine in nature, in Sanskrit. Sanskrit is the language that is basically the Latin of Hinduism.

(On another note, Rama will have his own day soon, as the day after the Navaratri is called Vijayadasami/Dusshera or the Tenth Day of Victory, which is when Rama slew the ten-headed Demon King Ravana. 20 days after is Deepavali/Diwali, the festival of lights, which symbolizes Lord Rama's return to his home with Sita Devi. So basically, Sita when?)

TLDR: We are in a nine day period where Hindus celebrate the Divine Goddess, who is known for forms such as Durga and Parvati, right as Parvati's banner is dropping on FGO. And I might be too excited about this coincidence, lmao

Why I worship Devi

Forgive my ignorance if I'm wrong,

In Hinduism (as far as I know) we categories energy as dynamic (which we considered female) and the less dynamic also know as Static Energy (the male). Both are conscious and Prarabrahman is a dynamic energy (female).

Many in this Subredddit doubt whether Devi existed before Brahman and whether she's just the embodiment of power of the Brahman.

I believe that Devi is Adi Parashakti (Prarabrahman) and she has given rise to Brahman (Supreme Consciousness). She isn't just Maya (She's also the power of the Tri Murti but that doesn't mean she's only contained within the Tri Murti, she's way beyond them).

Shiva has often mentioned that Devi is beyond him and I don't worship the Prarabrahman (Devi) because she's most supreme and powerful. I worship her because we feel love and satisfaction while devoting ourself to her. I don't whether other followers of Shaktism feel the same but I do.

Homo Divinus: The Fates

If I Could Turn Back Time

The Fates were primordial gods who controlled the actions of homo sapiens and homo divinus alike. They tended to be female and usually there were three, a tripartite collaboration shaping Reality. They took various forms in various cultures.

The Moirai

The Moirai were the Fates of classic Greek myth.

Clotho Maiden spun thread of life from her distaff onto her spindle Lachesis Mother measured the thread of life with her rod Atropos Crone cut the thread of life and determined the manner of death

While rarely large players in the myths (they were ALWAYS lurking behind the scenes), they did have a few significant stories told about them.

Ad, Al, and Herc

Admetus (Ad for short) got the help of the homo divinus Apollo (who was stuck being Ad's shepherd for a year for getting on Zeus' bad side again) in winning the hand of Alcestis (Al for short), daughter of Pelias (of Jason and his Argonauts fame). Unfortunately, Ad forgot to make the proper sacrifice to Apollo's sister Artemis, so when Ad and Al went to their wedding bed they found the bed full of snakes. Not a good sign, since that meant an early death for Ad.

Apollo was still stuck as Ad's shepherd, so he once again came to Ad's aid. Apollo got the Fates drunk and made them promise that if someone were willing to die instead, Ad could live. No one, not even Ad's elderly parents were willing to take his place, so Al stepped up. Heracles, who had been invited to the wedding, finally sobered up enough to see Hades about to take Al, and roared in protest. Herc felt indebted to Ad for the great party, so he beat Hades in wrestling, winning Al her life back. Ad and Al lived happily ever after (at least until the Pelias stew).

Momma Told Me Not to Come

Althaia had been promised that her newborn son, Meleagros (Mel for short) would live only as long as the log in the fire burned. Althaia, being the loving mother she was immediately put that log out and put it away for safe keeping. Mel led the Calydonian Boar Hunt, and decided to give the skin to the only chic in the party Atalanta to score some points (some chics dig flowers, but they tend not to go on boar hunts). Mel's uncles, Althaia's bro

A poem for Lalita Tripura Sundari....

Lalita Tripurāsundarī, Beautiful Goddess of the Three Cities, in some of Your Ten Aspects of Adi Parashakti, You take on qualities like that of Hecate, of Artemis, of Selene, by Dhumavati's Smoking Cauldron, Basket and Broom, the Crow flies just outside the room as It hovers above Her Lucid Dream, She Who Plays, as either Dark Lilith or Wild Nympha, You manifest as a Mahavidya of either Kali or Kamala, but only by personal merits and demeanor can this determination be seen. Queen of Queens, by Brigid, by Brigantia, by Holy Blessed Bride, You too comfort Shiva when His Anger wells and His Negative Emotions override, Your Green Mantle also has the ability to assist Vishnu in calming Him down and for the Rudra Tandava to subside, as the Eternal Light of Kildare shines, Ériu and Danu implore of Him the Ananda Tandava instead as they dance feverishly upon the Wicklow Hillside. At the Shores of the Silver Strand, Inari takes His Snake form and then slithers through the Hot Sand, Patrick comes upon Him, with nothing more than a humble walking stick in his hand, he picks Him up gently, as the heat is too much for this Little Serpent to withstand and together, with Manasā's Blessing, they set aside their differences and continue on Side by Side towards the Promised Land.

Would you recommend an ayahuasca trip for a general lack of direction in life?

If it matters, I had a religious experience on LSD - I was given 'the truth' from the divinity, I believe Adi Parashakti, then I tripped a couple of more times and saw the devil, which kind of ruined all the glow I got from the good trips.

Edit: 'the truth' was basically that all reality is patterns of consciousness that is the stream of love that forms all the emotions that keeps humanity alive, your basic 'all is one' truth. Just saying cause everyone has their knee jerk reaction to 'the truth'.

These people were worshipped "as Gods" and over time, each original cult/following/clan/religion became fractured and multiple gods/leaders were worshipped over each other, possibly due to rapid expansion of territory and the multiple wars waged against each other.

This all depends on whether you think "The Lost Book of Enki", translated from the 14 Sumerian Tablets, can be trusted or not.

This of course will lead to the author, a guy called Zecharia Sitchin, being dubbed a "fraudster" by a guy named Dr. Michael S. Heiser, who set up a website DEDICATED to proving him wrong and sullying his name. Suspicious in itself, but who knows.

Of course, you have to make up your own mind, so i certainly recommend reading the book. We've all got the time right now anyway!

NOTE 2: None of these people are "THE God Almighty" that supposedly created the physical universe, even they say they didnt know. They only gave our ancestors "consciousness/awareness" of "our universe".

NOTE 3: This is not a fully completed list of EVERYONE borne from eachother. This post would be impossibly large to try and fit them all in, but I can try.

NOTE 4: When researching each "god/deity/leader's" story and the words/passages written about them, try and remember that they are written down/spoken in 'LAYMANS TERMS' by VERY early man, using their (naturally at the time) limited understanding of what they saw and were told. They also learnt within the confines of their own cultures.

NOTE 5: It appears the earliest forms of class divide, family interbreeding and slavery were prevalent in these times, as a sort of "necessary evil", and actively encouraged by certain civs/cults/clans. Possibly for control and most likely for "royal bloodlines" to always succeed. These potentially gave way to the earliest forms of apparent racism far down the timeline, and the uprisings/rebellions against it.

NOTE 6: The Great Deluge/Biblical Flood/Legend of Manu/Gun-Yu/ Deucalion

Are we all currently part of a 'thousands of years long' struggle between the original Sumerian cities and their offshoot clans/civilisations?
