I think this is the fastest way to reduce incidents of police brutality. Simply make them accountable the same as everyone else for their choices.
If violent cops had to pay their own legal fees and were held to a higher standard of conduct there would be very few violent cops left on the street in six months.
The system is designed to insulate them against criminal and civil action to prevent frivolous lawsuits from causing decay to civil order, but this has led to an even worse problem, with an even bigger impact on civil order.
If police unions want to foot the bill, let them, but stop taking taxpayer money to defend violent cops accused of injuring/killing taxpayers. It's a broken system that needs to change.
feels like every single action movie I’ve ever seen has the exact same scene at least once. “Oh no, main character has a gun to their head! How will they survive” and then there’s a gunshot and there’s some bullshit tension where the movie wants us to believe the main character’s dead. Does anyone, ever, EVER buy that? I know you’re not gonna kill of the title character in the first twenty minutes. And then, huge surprise, it wasn’t actually the main character getting shot but some random deus ex machina character who landed the shot perfectly and killed the bad guy. SHOW ME THE ACTION. I WANT TO SEE HOW THIS RANDOM PERSON CAME INTO THE SHOT AND KILLED THE BAD GUY. STOP WITH THIS BULLSHIT I KNOW YOURE NOT GONNA KILL TOM CRUISE TWENTY MINUTES IN. GIVE ME REAL ACTION, DAMNIT.
I was 13 when you first took a knee. In my eyes, America was the best country in the world and I loved it for all the good it has done. At the time I would have died for my country. And there you were, in direct opposition to the ideals I cared so deeply for. I hated you. I hated your protest. I stopped watching the NFL. I haven’t bought or worn nikes since. Everything about you was wrong. How could you hate something that was so perfect? How could you hate the land of the free and home of the brave? How could you disrespect the millions of American soldiers that have died for the flag? How could you hate my home?
Only know do I see the America you’ve always seen. I am disappointed. I am disappointed in my country and I am disappointed in myself. You lost your dream job and had your name dragged through the mud by people like me because I was too blind to see the problems within my own home.
I wish I could take it all back. I hope one day you can forgive me for all the wrong I’v... keep reading on reddit ➡
My previous WIBTA posting was pretty quiet, but I appreciated everyone who took the time to respond. I’m providing an update in hopes that maybe our experience will help internet strangers also dealing with this.
Based on the AITA feedback, I sat down with my husband to share my concerns about the sudden onset of his excessive snoring. I said I thought he may have developed sleep apnea, which could be serious. I encouraged him to go see a doctor, stating that I would be willing to go with him. I also said I would go to the guestroom if I was unable to sleep due to the snoring.
After this conversation, nothing really changed and it made me very frustrated. There were a few times when I retreated to the guestroom to try to sleep. The first time, I didn’t lock the door. He came in the room, immediately fell back asleep, and snored right in my face. I was PISSED and made it cle... keep reading on reddit ➡
It's unfortunate that most great threads that deal with common rules misconceptions and misinterpretations will eventually fall by the wayside and be forgotten regardless of how hot the post is, but I think a lot of game problems and frustrations would disappear if people would remember why we roll initiative and how surprise works.
Cue Infomercial Voice:
Has something like this ever happened to you?
Suzy the DM: "The King eyes Malificent the Tiefling with hope. Heroes of the realm, I welcome you to the hallowed halls of Castleville. Alas, in recent months a great evil befalls the land..."
Timmy the Player: "I stab the King in the eye with my rapier."
Lawrence the Player of Malificent: "Umm... yeah! I cast Fireball on the King."
Agatha the Player: "Oh, before Timmy stabs the King I use my held my action to shoot the King's guards in the throat with my longbow when we entered the throne room, so I get an instant kill. Also, do we get a surprise round before the King does... keep reading on reddit ➡
Folk need to stop with the “please stop looting” bullshit. Looters aren’t reading this and if they are, they don’t care.
You want to help? Then make productive suggestions to inspire others to follow.
Here’s what I’ve done:
Helped my local deli board up his windows
Found several contractors looking for work and willing to board up windows 24/7 (for big price hike) and at distributing these phone numbers to small local businesses
Going on social media and CHEERING the protestors while also calling LOOTERS out as violent scum who need to be stopped
Go into your local police station and ask WHY aren’t cops doing anything, then write your local council person with the answer and demand better
See looting or fires, call 911
See a small, manageable fire, pit it out yourself and save the FDNY a task
clean up after the riots
Stand in front of stores with a broken window to prevent folk from easily going in - when someone tries to get in, LET THEM
Toxic and narcissistic mothers are often not held responsible for the irreversible damage they do to their children. The emotional guilt trips, manipulation and gaslighting impact the psyche of their young minds, altering their outlook towards relationships and society significantly. To make matters worse, the trauma carries on into adulthood, resulting in unhealthy attachments, habits and expectations. While we do acknowledge the positive and powerful impacts that women have on our society, I wish we did not shy away from this social issue.
As the title says, I’m 18 years old, graduate high school tomorrow, and will be over $20k within 1 or 2 more paychecks. I’m really excited.
I keep most of my money in savings with $2000 in checking. I started investing in January have about $8600 in stocks/REITs/ETFs. Im a bit reluctant to put more in though. The month before the market crash is probably the worst time to start investing but I have made about 4% YTD with $400 in yearly dividends.

I (46M) and my ex (42F) have a daughter (12F) who we’ll call Anna. We divorced 7 years ago and I have since remarried. I have 2 children with my current wife, (5F) and (2M).
My ex and I don’t have the best relationship, she resents that I have a “new family”. I got main custody of Anna, my ex gets her mainly on weekends and sometimes in school vacations. She has a warm home with us, adores her siblings and has grown to love her step mom very much.
In February the kids had a week of vacation and me and my wife had decided that we were going to take all of the kids on a 4 day trip to Disney land as a birthday present for all of them this year. My ex was supposed to have Anna in that vacation, so we made sure to arrange things months before to make sure everything was ok and dealt with. We agreed that my ex would have her Friday - Tuesday, our trip was Wednesday - Saturday. Everything had been booked and paid for. It was crazily expensive, but it was supposed to be a once in a lifetime... keep reading on reddit ➡
I think when it comes to action cinematography, I associate shaky cam with trying to hide imperfections in your movie in the worst possible way. I get that some actors are not very athletic, but have you ever seen Into the Badlands? They made Nick Frost into a believable Kung Fu master. Hire some Chinese action choreographers and stop shaking the cam.
Donald Trump ordered police to fire on peaceful protesters the other day before waving a Bible for a photo op. What made it worst was that he didn't just fire on peaceful protesters. But priests inside the Church he was in(St John's Episcopal) to clear them out. This man in no way defends Christian values and the people saying he does are selling out for his cult of personality. I argue this on religious grounds for the following reasons:
(i)Humility is a Christian virtue. The Bible condemns the arrogant
Hear me out, I truly think that animation would be able to catch all of the smaller details and fantastical elements. Especially the high storms. Thoughts?
I haven’t read the books since I was about 13, so my memory has dulled, and the tv show had warmed me up to Theon.
This obviously isn’t a new take or anything, but I just needed somewhere to express my deep newly found hatred.
It’s not even that he’s the worst character in the series, if that was true then I could stop sympathizing a little bit with him (and what’s to come).
But no, Theon is cruel almost by default. He’s so overwhelmingly cruel- but it’s a callous almost disinterested cruelty that takes your breath away. It’s so casual, the way he says things.
The first that comes to mind is the captains daughter when he says “The captain’s daughter had not been turned over for his use, but she had come to his bed willingly enough,”
How wretched is that- willingly enough-it’s so disgustingly casual too that Theon never learns this girl’s name. He calls her the girl and it’s never a kind word, not once, he calls her fat, ugly, porridge faced, then ugly some more. It... keep reading on reddit ➡
