The Holy Spirit is the the conservationist of energy, keeping it in existence. The soul/spirit is energy. Energy runs the body. Body dies, the soul moves on. Everything living has energy.

Matter cannot be created nor detroyed, only changed. - Paraphrasing of Einstein.

What if the Holy Spirit (of Judeo-Christian meaning) is the container of energy, keeping it conserved in whatever form necessary.

This energy "runs" living things as a spirit, but once the body dies, the energy cannot simply disappear, so it continues on to a heavenly dimension to await being placed in a new physical body in the end. NOT to be confused with reincarnation though. It's a one-time transfer.

Of course this line of thinking stems from my Christian background, but I was thinking about what runs us - energy - and it has to go somewhere when we die. It has to "be" something. Why not be what we consider our souls. A personal energy database of sorts.

The Holy Spirit wouldn't be like the Force - which I first thought it would be akin to - but instead what keeps the "Force" in line.

This is CST, so let's entertain the notion. It isn't fleshed out, but it's a seed for conversation.

Several new AutoModerator syntax enhancements - easier "inverse" checks, death of the "body+body" hack, and an alternate way of writing lists

No actual new functionality this time, but a few new syntax options are now available when writing AutoModerator rules to try to simplify some of the common cases (all existing rules will continue working).

Easier "inverse"/"does not match" checks

One of the most common types of rule is one that checks for the presence of something in one field of the post (such as the title) but the absence of something in another field. For example, to write a rule that removes any non-self-posts with "feedback" in the title, the previous required rule would have been:

title: feedback
domain: self.nameofsubreddit
modifiers:
    domain: inverse
action: remove

A check can now be made inverse by prefixing the field(s) you're checking with a ~ (tilde). So the rule would now be:

type: submission
title: feedback
~domain: self.nameofsubreddit
action: remove

(and since I know someone's going to want to try it, if you put an inverse modifier on a ~ check it will just stay as an inverse one, not go back to normal).

Custom match subject suffixes (aka no more need for body+body shenanigans)

It's always been possible to do multiple checks against the same field, but it's always been pretty unwieldy to do and required using an ugly hack to get a different "name" for the additional checks. For example, if someone wanted to remove a comment containing both "red" and "blue", this would generally be done as:

type: comment
body: red
body+body: blue
action: remove

The body+body format where field names are joined by a + was actually intended for being able to check multiple fields to see if any match, such as doing title+body+domain: to check all three of those for something. However, since YAML doesn't allow defining exactly the same check multiple times (the later definitions will just overwrite the earlier ones), this also became used as a hacky way to be able to write multiple checks on the same field by getting different "names" that still only check the same fields. In some cases it got extremely ugly, getting up to body+body+body and further.

You can now write your own custom "names" by appending # + any suffix to a check. So for example, instead of the above, that rule could now be written as:

type: comment
body: red
body#2: blue
action: remove

Numbers are probably the simplest way to use this, but you can actually put anything you like after the # to make that check'

[TOMT] [Music] - 90s Hip hop song, chorus is something like "mind moves the body, body, body moves the mind".

The song has a kind of west coast mid-late 90s feel. I'm can't remember what the actual verb is that is used, but googling for mind moves the body, mind is the body, mind heals the body, etc., has given me no joy.

Only other thing I can remember is that I'm pretty sure it featured in the soundtrack of several skate videos from the time period as well.

Thanks in advance for any leads!

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this. I'm working on a creative writing project and the main characters wife is killed in a hit and run, and I'm just wondering the timeline of what would happen to the body (body had ID so it is identifiable immediately), at what point and how would the husband be notified, where would the body be taken, and at what point of the post mortem process would the husband be allowed to see the body?

Any information is appreciated!

Dad and I have had the same recurring dream our whole lives - always about killing someone, burying the body, and worrying about being caught

My father and I have the same recurring dream. Doesn't happen often for both of us but always crops up for one of us every few months.

We dream that we've killed someone and buried the body. We go on our lives as normal. But then someone comes about and starts asking questions. Where is so-and-so? You were last seen with them, do you know where they went? We're worried about them.

So the police will start snooping around and suddenly, we know that we're most likely be caught. And that's when things start to feel really real. For my dad, he'll wake up immediately and lie in bed really worrying about it - thinking that he's actually killed someone and that the police are going to knock on our door any minute. It takes him a minute or so to convince himself/remember that it was in fact all a dream.

This sometimes happens to me but more than likely, I'll continue sleeping until morning but when I wake, it'll be with this severe feeling of unease - like I've done something very very wrong but can't quite put my finger on it. This dream happened last night - it's evening now and I've only just remembered why I felt this way this morning.

Just for clarity, we never have these dreams on the same night - we experience them quite separately from each other. We're also never in each others dreams.

For myself, usually it's just one person I've killed but last night, it was about five people. I've always been a solo killer but occasionally, I'll have one/two people help bury the body/bodies with me. I also can't really ever remember who the person I've killed is, and dad is the same. Seems to be predominately strangers for both of us?

Any ideas on this? It's definitely a little odd!

Results to survey on Christianity and the body

At the start of Lent, I posted a quick survey with a few questions related to Christianity and the Body. I wanted to share these results with you all - sorry it took a bit longer than I anticipated (life got in the way for a bit!). I got just over 100 responses - thank you!

A few quick notes on the survey itself -

  • This survey was tangential preparation for a sermon I preached at the start of Lent. Luke's portrayal of Jesus in the desert leads some Christians to a fairly negative view of the body in Lent. I've dealt with some really negative views of my own body in the past in faith, and I wanted to get some informal feedback for how popular some of these attitudes are.
  • I got some valuable feedback from several people about the survey itself. I am not experienced with writing good surveys and that probably showed. My first draft was way too dense and theological, so I I went the other direction - casual and informal. A lot of people let me know they wished there was a "neither agree nor disagree" response. Oversight on my part! So take these results with a grain of salt, there was a decent amount of feedback that people didn't like all of the response options, which is valuable data in itself.
  • The data I've seen has generally shown that attitudes on the body/body image disproportionately affect females. While males body disorders are increasing in recent years, the general impression I've gotten from broader scholarship is that males generally have far less anxiety about the body. This is relevant because reddit is over 2/3 male, according to a 2016 report. Worth remembering when reviewing these results.

So without further ado, here are the results:

  1. Christianity promotes an overall positive body image - 72% agree / 28% disagree
  2. Body image is irrelevant to Christian faith - 28% agree / 72% disagree
  3. My body is a source of anxiety, frustration, or shame - 37% agree / 63% disagree
  4. It's a healthy part of faith to struggle with body image - 31% agree / 69% disagree
  5. Christianity has taught me that my body has worth - 84% agree / 16% disagree
  6. I am not a body. I am a soul - 24% agree / 76% disagree
Statement Strongly Agree Agree Disagree Strongly Disagree
The body is inherently bad. We must reject flesh in order to receive Spirit. 3% 3% 22% 72%

Love for any physical or biologic

On a Fall day in 1976, a farmer harvesting corn in rural Benton County, Indiana found an unusual package in his field. The box, which is theorized to have been dropped by a helicopter contained the body of a woman. Dubbed, β€œThe Box Lady of Benton, County” her identity remains a mystery.

On October 8th, 1976, 16-year-old Curtis Skoog was busy mowing the yard at his family’s home in rural Benton County, Indiana when his father, Norman Skoog, passed by on his combine. Shortly after, Norman pulled into the driveway, this time in his pickup truck along with Curtis’ grandfather, Everett Daulton, who lived nearby. Knowing something must be wrong, Curtis approached the truck to see a white cardboard box sitting in the bed.

Norman had spent the day harvesting his β€œback 40,” acres of corn along Benton County Road 200 South. Around 5pm, while harvesting in a remote spot about a mile-and-a-half from the Skoog home, he made a bizarre discovery. A white cardboard box wrapped in tape and rope sat on the ground roughly nine rows deep in the field, approximately 15 yards off of the gravel road. Norman had nearly ran over the box with his combine. When he got out to investigate the box, he realized it was far too heavy for him to lift alone. He left on his combine to get his father-in-law and his pickup. Together, they loaded the box into the bed of the truck and drove it to the Skoog home.

Curtis was first to notice the pungent odor of cheap perfume coming from within the box. Using a pocket knife, he sliced open a section of the box to find a broken vial of perfume lying atop something wrapped in layers of plastic. Concerned what may be inside, Norman phoned police. He told Curtis to return the vial to the box and wait for the Sheriff to arrive.

Sheriff Donal Steely arrived at the Skoog home a short time later to inspect the suspicious package. As he began to cut into the thick sheets of heavy plastic and rope, a new foul smell wafted out of the box. Steely decided he should contact the State Police before proceeding any further. Indiana State Police arrived and opened the box. Beneath the layers of plastic sheeting and rope, they discovered the body of a woman. The body was taken to the local coroners office, and later an autopsy was preformed in Lafayette, Indiana.

It was concluded that the woman’s cause of death was from a small caliber single gunshot wound at the base of her neck fired at close range. The bullet was never recovered. Her death was estimated to have occurred 7-10 days before being found, but it was noted that very little decomposition had occurred.

She was found in the fetal position with her knees pressed firmly against her chest. Her body was bound with rope and her hands were tied under her knees. Her head and face were wr

The mom I nanny for teaches her daughter to never comment on someone’s body uninvited, even if it’s a compliment. I’ve started to do the same.

I love this message. Commenting on and even complimenting a person on a body part or feature can have unintended effects. Even though it may be natural to want to compliment someone’s eyes, hair texture, body type, or other features, the person does not have control over these things. They didn’t make a choice to have those features, and they could even be a sensitive or even traumatic topic.

In addition to being respectful, there are other, more meaningful compliments to pay anyway! Why not compliment someone’s makeup, fashion sense, hairstyle, or manicure? Those are all choices the person made, and positive reactions can be so encouraging and emboldening. Take it even further and compliment a person’s compassion, generosity, and kindness, or praise them for their skills and hard work, like excelling at school, athleticism, or artistic ability.

Let’s love and build each other up from the inside out, and stop putting so much value on what’s on the outside. πŸ’›
