In theory is it legal to walk the entire length of the Avon river and its tributaries all the way to there sources? For example if you walked along the stream between Puriri Street and Kahu Road you would probably give some people a shock as you pass by their properties but is there a reason that might be illegal?

I live at BS9 2EE, I like to go running. How do I get to the other side of the Avon River opposite the A4 Portway?
I'm relegated to running on the Portway if I want a long run and often I see other people running on the otherside of the river in what looks like a paradise of beaten paths, grassy knolls and ancient trees.
How do I get there quickly from my position so I can go running along it?
