A remaster of Diablo II has been on my wishlist for a while. After the original Diablo II lost support under Catalina, I've been waiting for a way to enjoy Diablo II again. In my college days I would play Diablo for hours on my mac and miss those days. I was looking forward to reliving those good memories when the original had been updated or when we got a remaster. Now macOS doesn't have access to either.
I hope Blizz hasn't given up hope with macOS with the transition to Apple Silicon. I guess I can only keep my fingers crossed for the day I can play Diablo II on my mac, just like I used to :)
Hello,
I've been in the Linux sphere for a while now, started when I was around 10. I've used Linux as a desktop OS a number of times throughout the years, however, I've never really been able to stick with it, and have always gone back to macOS.
I really love the macOS ecosystem and how seamless it is to switch between my phone and computer, including copy and paste, text messages, Airdrop, etc.
I am wondering if there is a way to set up something similar in Linux? From what I've seen the platform is very disjointed.
My other problem is that I need to be able to support both Windows and Linux easily, and I feel like macOS sits right in the middle, with a lot of Windows GUI apps, and a lot of the same/similar Linux CLI apps, and it makes supporting both OSes very easy.
Do you have any suggestions on replicating/replacing these features?
One thing that really bothers me when migrating from Windows/Linux to macOS is system audio recording. It's completely broken on macOS.
Build-in system recording is not recording system audio and I need to install custom driver (which is getting broken every OS update). This is really frustrating!
What's more lots of video call apps that support screen sharing also does not support system audio sharing on Mac. This is happening for example in Discord. MS Teams came with idea that the first time you use screen sharing it prompts you to install a custom driver in order to be able to share system audio.
System audio recording drivers/API should be included by default in OS. To make sure that privacy is being respected properly, it should appear in privacy section in system preferences (just like screen sharing, but please don't break this like screen sharing where I need to restart my app in order to allow app to screen share, which is another topic for broken UX in macOS)
After a long wait, Pioneer Hardware and Software are both now compatible with MacOS Big Sur!
So will there not be a macOS version of Diablo 2 Resurrected? The new M1 Macs are fantastic gaming machines but Iβm only seeing console and Windows logos!
I am currently developing a mobile app. I first wanted to only do it for Android because I thought IOS would be a pain to get running because of Apples security things. But today I thought let's at least look up a bit and maybe it won't be that hard to port it to IOS.
How wrong I was. The first thing that showed up in the documents for the engine I am currently using was:
Required for developing in IOS: a computer running MacOS.
Why can't I just develop it for IOS like I develop it for Android. Google even provides an entire Android Studio just for developers to test their apps on all kinds of virtual Android devices. Now, I don't need all those kinds of tools but please let me develop Apple software on hardware that isn't made by Apple!
Iβve got to the install screen but when I try install I get stuck at the error βinternet connection is required to install macOSβ Iβm using Ethernet. Any ideas what it could be?
SOLVED - The kext was set to false in the config.plist file. I used the intelMausi kext, when i set it to true in the plist file the Ethernet worked.

I am running Docker Desktop on my iMac and have installed a container (Tdarr_node) for which I need a port opened to my QNAS NAS. I understand that normally all ports are closed in MacOS. I have activated the firewall on my iMac to see if It is possible to open ports in the firewall settings but it seems to only have settings to allow communications for apps and not for ports specifically. Allowing the Docker application in the firewall doesnβt solve my issue.
I googled how to open ports on MacOS of course, but seems thereβs no easy solution for this and I did not get comfortable finding the right approach for this. Seems that in MacOS things have changed quite a bit over time how to do this so was hoping someone with recent hands-on experience could give me some pointers how to open a port in MacOS to allow Tdarr_node to communicate with Tdarr server installed via Portainer on my NAS.
Appreciate the help in this!
Hey everyone,
We're aware of and investigating an issue preventing MacOS players from starting Hearthstone after updating to the latest 19.2.1 patch. Weβre hoping to have a fix out for this later today.
1/8 Update: This issue has been resolved. MacOS users may see a larger than normal download when updating to the 19.2.1 patch.
Just to give you heads up, I updated to MacOS Big Sur 11 beta 3 and Checkra1n failed repeatedly. It freezes with the message βChecking if device is ready β
When I downgraded to 11.2 it started to work again.
This post will be continually updated with the latest macOS Big Sur 11.2 info.

It has taken me a long time to convince that I have arrived at the final configuration (software and hardware) for this build. And here it is! I followed the hackintosh vanilla desktop guide and starting from the sample config.plist for Haswell I was able to create a specific one for my configuration. Everything works perfectly, except for the Wake Up (it's probably a bluetooth issue actually). Below I list every single component I used:
I understood I cannot post my EFI in this Subreddit according to the rules, but for more information just write here! Happy Hacking Everyone :)
Similar to how MacOS is a better platform to develop IOS Apps since they're both based on the same operating system (OS X) and it's easy to connect between a Macbook and IPhone, can the same be said for Android and Linux distros since Android is based on Linux?
so I have a wired controller which I use on my Windows virtual machine.
but as you'd might expect, I prefer to run games natively on macOS, and that controller is Windows only.
is there any way I can make it work on macOS Big Sur? if not, what are the best alternatives (preferably cheap) to it?
Hi everyone, a little late but on January 25th it was Cometβs 2 year anniversary being on App Store! Itβs surprising how long itβs been, but Iβve got a great update out today. Hope you like it!
Comet is now available on the Mac App Store! Available for macOS Big Sur and up. Comets run great on Mac!
Reddit apps for MacOS are fairly untouched ground so thereβs going to be a lot of guesswork here as I (and you all) figure out what works and what doesnβt. So feedback is welcome. That being said Iβve tried my best to make a strong first version.
Some Mac only features:

UPDATE! Solved, see my comment below.
My laptop has a 512GB SSD hard drive. I don't need all that much space on macOS, I only need it so I can downgrade my iPad 4, which requires macOS (I tried it on Linux, but it didn't work, and some people suggest I try macOS), so I can use macOS-only downgrade tools such as Pluvia with my iPhone 4, and of course for iMovie and Garageband. I am dualbooting Windows and Linux, is there any way I can install macOS alongside these OSes without damaging my existing installation? Thanks!
TL;DR
I did some experiments to determine, whether macOS Big Sur is able to bypass VPNs as claimed a lot right now. The answer is: It is not. Packets do, what the routing table says they should do.
Introduction: A lot of posts in the past claimed, that the new macOS Big Sur would be able to bypass VPNs for Apple's own products. The most famous ones were Your Computer Isn't Yours and Apple apps on macOS Big Sur bypass firewall and VPN connections. Can be used by a Malware..
Well, I couldn't understand how this could even work in theory and none of the people spreading the FUD did explain anything, so I created a test setup. My MacbookPro Late 2016 with Big Sur was connected via Ethernet to another PC with two NICs, running Debian Buster. The two NICs were bridged together and the second one was connected to my LAN in such a way, that the MB could access the internet (both via IPv4 and IPv6) without any packet being dropped. Wifi und Bluetooth were both switched off.
I ran tcpdump on the bridge and captured every single ethernet frame that was spit out by the MB. Additionally I ran Wireshark on the MB in order to check, whether the kernel might hide some ethernet frame from Wireshark. Such a frame would still be visible on the bridge.
On my MB I created a VPN tunnel to yet another machine on my LAN and tested all three major VPN implementations: IPSec (Cisco Anyconnect), OpenVPN and Wireguard. All VPNs were first set up to route all traffic through the VPN, and afterwards as a split tunnel, with Apple's IPs routed through the tunnel.
Furthermore, I separately captured any single ethernet frame on the bridge, which did not use the VPN tunnel.
I conducted this experiment for 48 hours, used Apple's own apps, installed some from the App Store and otherwise did just work on my MB.
Result: The only traffic not routed through the VPN were: DHCP, ARP and IPv6 Neighbor/Router-Advertisement/Solicitation. That's it. There was not a single packet that did not follow the rules in the MB's routing table and thus did not use the VPN tunnel.
Note, that the MB could have easily accessed the public internet by simply using the data provided by DHCP! In the MB's routing table the default gateway is not replaced when connecting to a VPN. Instead, a

This is my first published crate using Rust, so I expect the code has a lot of room for improvement!
Launchify is a tool that makes it super easy to schedule background tasks to run at regular intervals on macOS. As a developer, I often want to run small monitoring scripts on my laptop but I found the built-in tools on macOS for doing so fairly unintuitive to use. So, I decided to write a small convenience script to automate the most common thing I want to do: schedule a program to run at a regular interval.
Normally for something so simple and IO-heavy I would write a script in Python or Go perhaps, but since I started learning Rust recently I figured this would be a good opportunity to try and write it in Rust and explore the IO side of the language more.
Overall I'm happy with the result. I really like how simple it is to publish and install crates using `cargo`. I still feel that Rust's strengths lend it more to pure computations rather than IO tasks and though I managed to avoid panicking/unwrap()-ing I know my error handling could be improved a lot. Compared to Go's simple `error` interface type, converting between various `Option<>` and `Result<>` wrappers in Rust feels like a lot more work, but maybe I'm missing some simple trick to make it smoother. I really like the `?` operator for error handling, I think Go would benefit a lot from stealing that!
Hi there again r/Terraform!
Apologies for posting so soon again, but the Pluralith Alpha is now available for macOS and since quite a few of you showed interest I thought I'd let you know with another quick post!
For those who missed the last post: Pluralith is an application that lets you visualise Terraform state and changes made to it.
At this early stage user feedback from people in the industry is extremely important. Visit the website HERE and give it a spin!
If youβre a Windows or Linux user and are interested, drop your email in the form on the website (if you havenβt already) and Iβll let you know when Pluralith is available for your OS.
A few things I wanted to highlight here before you dive into the app:
Hope to see you checking it out and letting me know what you think over at r/Pluralith! Feel free to rip it to shreds in the feedback, as long as itβs constructive! :)

TL;DR: Try disabling WPA3 on your router/access point if you get disconnects on macOS
Ola Stadians,
I was experiencing issues with Stadia and GeforceNow on my MacBook Air 2017, macOS Big Sur. Tried everything from disabling location services and/or the AWDL interface, monitoring the WiFi connection to see if some app was causing this, removing all third party apps from the device, resetting it entirely, configuring custom network locations, etc., etc.
This was only happening with macOS. Windows and Chromecast are running perfectly fine.
Turns out my Modem (AVM Fritzbox 6660) recently received an update that enabled WPA3 for WiFi. I disabled it, and since then my experience on mac is flawless.
Recently upgraded to Catalina on my hack, and wanted to rock some old school wallpapers and try out the Big Sur colour gradient wallpapers as well, since they are not available on Catalina. They look so, so good.
I stumbled on this total gem of a website, and thought I'd share.
https://512pixels.net/projects/default-mac-wallpapers-in-5k/
It has all the default wallpapers in 4/5/6K resolution. All the way back from macOS Cheetah to Big Sur.
Enjoy
I created a live wallpaper for android that reproduces the dynamic wallpapers of Mac Os Big Sur, that is the backgrounds that according to the time of day show the sunrise or sunset, you can see the video of the app here:
Instead here you can download it:
The price is β¬ 2.99 but for a few days it is free in the store and updates with more wallpapers will arrive soon, I'm already working on it.
You can very well set 1sec of Refresh as thanks to the optimization, consumption does not exceed 1% over 24h
I'd love to receive feedback, what do you think?
Dear Hackintosh Community,
a couple of days ago, I tried to install MacOS on my machine. I thoroughly followed the install guide on dortania and it all looked very promising as the installer booted right away. It got to the Apple Logo, but everytime, after the loading bar is almost finished, it spits out a couple of verbose lines and then shuts down.
EDIT1: I got to the grey installer Background and a spinning wheel mousecursor by unplugging my single 32GB RAM Stick
When I get to the grey background screen, I see this message before it shuts down:

But this only works about three consecutive times, then it went back to the now crossed out behavior. When I plug the RAM Stick back in, it works again for three times, after that, old error.

HELP! I've recently decided to switch to Linux from MacOS and I have no idea where to start... I've bought the new Lenovo ThinkPad Carbon X1 Gen 8 and it comes with Fedora. I'm now starting to see that there's a ton of steps that one has to take in order to become acclimated with this OS and how to use it.
For the immediate time being, my goal is to have a local versino of WordPress on my computer and Flywheel isn't working/returning a 502 error. That actually could be becuase of my Google settings - but i honetly dont' know. Waht I do know is that switching to Linux is important and Lenovo and Linux have decided to create an alternative for people aiming to switch, such as myself, which is the Lenovo thinkpad Carbon X1 Gen 8 w/ Fedora. From there, I'm not seeing a roadmap at all. Just a computer on my desk that I have absolutely no idea how to operate. I've just signed up to become a full-stack developer - which will take time - and I'm just looking for a starting point for how to use this and solicit feedback from the community! PLEASE HELP!
Have anyone tried using Target Display Mode (TDM) with MacOS Big Sur, with MBP compatible devices (such as MBP 2018 or older) and can confirm whether it still works?
I want to upgrade, but only if it doesn't hurt TDM, cause I am currently using it.
Hey there,
As some of you, I've been quite disappointed by the icon available by default for Stadia on macOS. Decided to make my own following the Big Sur Guidelines. Enjoy!
To apply the new icon:
I wrote this app for the fellow tank watchers.
This quick and dirty application shows a π menu in the menubar showing dates for Cameron County SpaceX road closures, and FAA NOTAMs for SpaceX Brownsville.
I wrote this app while waiting for SN9 to launch and it's proven useful for me. I've come to really enjoy the community which has sprung up around Starship development and wanted to contribute something. I thought this app could be useful to others.
Features:
I released DeTeXt, an iOS app for detecting hand drawn LaTeX symbols a few months ago, and I'm happy to announce that the app is now also available for macOS. The app is still a little rough around the edges, so don't hesitate to contact me about bugs or unexpected behavior.
After a year of absolutely despising a 2K monitor which I discovered only too late does NOT play nice with MacOS, I have finally discovered some beautiful relief. I imagine there are at least a few other Hackintoshers out there who find themselves with the same problems - Like all native elements are really f---ing small, but scaling to 1080 is fuzzy thanks to no HiDPI support; messing with browser font sizes which inevitably messes up rendering for most websites applies changes across other monitors too (so if I want something readable on my 2k monitor, the same browser on my other 4k monitor is now readable by a legally blind man across the room).
Well, some charitable Russian saint on Github just gave us an enormous quality-of-life improvement. It could not be easier to use either. It's a simple App, lives in your menu bar, doesn't require SIP to be disabled. It's just everything I've ever dreamed of and I'm so happy I could just about cry.
I am using the HiDPI for creating a 2048x1152 scale on a 27" LG 2K monitor (the 27GL850 to be exact). This resolution keeps my picture quality crisp while perfectly matching element sizing to my 27" 4k monitor (which has always been natively supported with HiDPI).
You'll want to play around with the different available HiDPI resolutions depending on your display's native resolution and screen size.
Here's the link to the Github Repo - See "Releases" on righthand side, 2.3.3
NOTE: I am still on Catalina. I have no idea whether or not this app supports Big Sur. Guessing it does but check first if this applies to you.
Here's a (almost certainly unnecessary) Medium guide - The app is about as self explanatory as it gets but just in case anyone finds that useful.
NOTE #2: You may need to disable SIP for setting custom resolutions depending on which OS you're running. I did not need to even mess with any of that because the latest version (2.3.3) had all of the relevant HiDPI resolutions already bundled in for 2560x1440 (2k).
NOW GO SWEET CHILD, GO ENJOY YOUR 2K MONITOR AS YOU'VE ALWAYS DREAMED!
Thanks to a lot of good guys, we can run macOS Big Sur on GPD Win Max:
I used entire EFI folder from this repository but removed some of the kexts about PS2 mouse/keyboard support..
I also upgraded all of the kexts to latest versions via OpenCoreConfigurator and replaced Airportitwlm.kext with Big Sur version. The steps I executed were as follows:
- Created installation media from my Mac ( Probably you know how to do this already )
- Mounted EFI directory and copied entire EFI folder from repository to the EFI partition.
- Upgraded OpenCore to 0.6.6 debug version
- Ran OpenCodeConfigurator
- Loaded config.plist from EFI/OC folder.
- In the Kernel section I updated kexts.. I downloaded Airportitwlm directly from github release page and replaced with Big Sur version.
- I executed GenSMBIOS to generate my own serial/UUID numbers and replaced the values in PlatformInfo
- Removed NvmExpressDxe.efi, Ps2KeyboardDxe.efi, OpenUsbKbDxe.efi
- I think we should check if we really need OpenCanopy. I plan to create a triple boot system so maybe I don't really need this. If that's the case we could safely remove Ps2MouseDxe.efi and UsbMouseDxe.efi
- There's a warning about SMCBatteryManager.kext.. I'll check the logs about this, because at boot time I get a lot of warning/errors that max capacity of battery is higher than what's given ( 5000 ).. It was around 5171 when I boot up.
- After saving changes and rebooting I first executed disk utility to create 3 partitions ( Because it's GPT, there's also EFI partition but it's hidden ).
- I set the first one as APFS, the second one to exFAT ( for Windows which I'll format it as NTFS later ), and a third one as MSDOS FAT ( which I'll use it later for Linux ).. Using disk utility when the screen is sideways is hard. Although you could do it if you use an external mouse.
- I started installation then. It rebooted a few times and finally booted OS properly without needing any adjustment.
- I rotated the display through Cmd+Option Display me

I'm not a big fan of the macOS window manager. What is the best way to run an X Server with a window manager on a modern macOS machine? I use macOS for my work machine and have been having trouble getting anything to work, as most information I can find about this is years old. I am fine only being able to launch X11 apps in the environment.
I realize I am posting this in a Windows subreddit so the feedback will likely be bias.
Software and web developer here. I develop full time from a custom rig in my office. I recently purchased a new M1 Macbook because my Dell XPS is aging and would like a powerful laptop to use when traveling.
Perhaps it is just me but MacOS isn't even close to as good as Windows. Simply dragging windows around on the Mac wasn't as smooth as Windows - the Macbook can't drive over 4k @ 60hz. Taking snippets on the Mac and copying to the clipboard was a huge hassle. Speaking of clipboard, MacOS doesn't have a historical clipboard. Crazy.
I could go on and on, but I wanted to see if the grass was greener and it most certainly isn't. Keep the improvements coming to Windows! It is in a great spot and only getting better.
Since this topic keeps coming up, and maybe my previous instructions were not enough for people to reproduce my build, I've written a whole guide on how I was able to build Qt Creator for macOS ARM64. This is an "unofficial guide" since there is not "official" support for Qt Creator or Qt for that matter on macOS ARM64. Also it uses unreleased (potentially unstable) code, but it does assume using the publicly available code for 5.15 and Qt Creator (not some hidden magic that doesn't exist yet in a private repo). And just so we are clear there is not even a version that is available for commercial customers of Qt. I'm publishing this guide because it is possible to do now with unreleased code, and it makes tasks like debugging from Qt Creator on the M1 Macs possible.
brew install pcre2 harfbuzz freetype
brew install cmake ninja python
brew install --build-from-source llvm
The LLVM install is optional, but is necessary for the extra clang code model in Qt Creator. Also using the homebrew version is the easiest because there are outstanding issues with building LLVM for macOS ARM64 that requires an unreleased version of LLVM to overcome, which isn't even supported by Qt Creator. The homebrew source has the patches necessary to build a working LLVM.
Not so sure about the pcre2, harfbuzz, and freetype dependencies, because if you didn't have them we would just build them anyway, and by using the brew version it likely makes the build unmovable from the development machine. I include them because I already have them in my environment, and we recommend them in some of our cmake build documentation for Qt 6 (even though we're building for Qt 5 in this case).
First get all the source code for Qt 5.15. We need some unreleased code so you need to get it using git. This will basically give you the last bit of opensource code before the 5.15 repo went private.
git clone git://code.qt.io/qt/qt5.git
cd qt5
git checkout 5.15
This step takes forever because it needs to pull down every module, and for Qt 5.15 there are ALOT. WebEngine takes like half the time because it contains Chromium which is larger than Qt. It's possible to skip downloading some modules, and Qt Creator certainly doesn't use all of them. But since people seem to miss these modules in Qt 6, why not take a moment(or hour) to reflect on

Typically we have users log into the VPN and then change passwords locally in syst prefs. In a couple of cases I have users who canβt seem to authenticate to the domain from their login screens. We have another local account on all our machines that is just a non-admin VPN access account. The current work around is to log in there, get on the VPN and switch user (which takes their AD creds). This is a temporary fix and reboots prompt the issue to return. Iβve checked and they both have Secure Token enabled. Is there a good fix for this? One of my co-workers suggested I rebind the machines to our domain but Iβd like to avoid that. Both are on Catalina OS. We are still vetting Big Sur.

Hello everyone! We are building an independent Webkit-based browser for macOS, named Orion.
Orion is:
Fast and lightweight
It is not Chromium or Firefox based - we built our browser framework from scratch, based on the Webkit rendering engine
It has native support for WebExtensions API - meaning you can now run uBlock Origin or Dark Reader natively on top of a Webkit browser
Privacy-focused and user-focused
Big Sur, Catalina and Mojave supported for now
We are looking for beta testers passionate about macOS, web and browsers to reach out. We have limited beta spots available at this time. Looking for people who are willing to be active testers and participate in our beta-tester discord.
