Explain Like I'm Goofy: Disneyland Resort Reopening Information and FAQ

Hi everyone!! We know there are a lot of questions related to reopening, how it will work, how things will progress, and what will be available. Here's some information about reopening that may be helpful!

If you have more questions, feel free to add them in the comments here or in our pinned weekly trip planning thread. The below guide is also available in our FAQ wiki here!

#2021 Park Reopening: Know Before You Go

Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure are officially reopened as of April 30th, 2021! After over a year of closure, we are so excited for so many of you to begin planning visits to Disneyland Resort again. Below is a quick overview of what to expect from Disneyland upon initial reopening. We will do our best to update this sheet as more dates are announced and if any protocols or rules change.

##Dates and Hours

Hours are the same for both Disneyland and California Adventure.

From 4/30 - 5/13, the parks will be open 9 AM - 7 PM.

From 5/14 onward (so far), the parks will be open 9 AM - 9 PM.

Reservations for days beyond the initial batch of dates (which was through 6/28) are currently becoming available 60 days in advance, sometime between midnight and 8 AM (it seems inconsistent so far).

At this time, Magic Morning and Extra Magic Hour are both on pause.

Dining reservations are open as of April 22nd for all dates through 6/28. Dining reservations for 6/29 and onward don't seem to be available yet, and we're not sure when they will become available.

Ticket booths are open at the parks as of April 30th.

Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure will be opening June 4th.

##Tickets and Reservations

In order to visit the park, you will have to purchase a valid ticket as well as make a park reservation for each day of your ticket. Both one park per day and park hopper tickets are available, and both require a reservation at either Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure. If you purchase a park hopper ticket, your reservation determines which park you will start your day at. You will be able to park hop starting at 1 PM as capacity allows. So far, there have not been any issues where a park being at capacity has prevented a guest from park hopping.

  • You can purchase tickets here.

  • You can make park reservations [here](https://disneyland.disney.go.com/experience-updates

TIFU by eating a buttload of violet candy, didn't research ingredients well enough, lost a bunch of weight, and then paid for it...in a buttload.

Edit for disclaimer: For those messaging me asking for the brand name, STOP. I will continue to ignore. I asked for one boundary and stated my reason for doing so. I don't need any more qualifiers. I also did not intend for this post to become a chat about encouraging unhealthy and damaging eating habits. Please seek help if you are suffering from an ED or trying to find a "quick and easy diet" in the form of laxatives or other methods; these are damaging. I did not consider this intially, but it's something that has been made aware to me. The story might be written in a funny way, but that's my process of the events. It wasn't funny or cool that I lost weight and dehydrayed myself in this method. It was painful and I'm going to need some recovery.

Edit 2: Removed indentifiers and potential encouragement for harmful ED behaviors

So, here's the thing. I may or may not have a slight to moderate addiction to these delicious violet mint candies. (I'm choosing not to give away the name of the maker of these candies in an effort to protect the small company. I won't sully their reputation because I sullied my toilet.)

I recently found these succulent fragrant treats again after trying them years ago on a whim. They are the perfect blend of strong fragrance and chalky texture. I am enthralled with them. Or...I was.

I forgot all about them until that first fateful day, about 4 or 5 weeks ago, while browsing online for nostalgic candies.

Fuck up 1: I found the same brand of violet candies and was very excited to have them again. I ate all four packages of mints in an embarrassingly short time. I started having some minor poopy issues here and there, but chalked it up to basic bacteria and subsequently forgot about them. I even went to so far as to passively blame by boyfriend by asking him if our dinners were giving him issues too. (He has been picking up a lot of the slack in the cooking department since I got a second job. Bless him.)

Fuck up 2: Seeing how I needed to refuel my latest addiction, I went directly to the manufacturer's website and...you guessed it...ordered 2 WHOLE BOXES of mints.

-Fuck up 2.0: Almost a moment of clarity- Something told me look up the ingredients of the mints, just for shits (lol) and giggles. I briefly read something about - specific chemical name-, but the article had too much of that darn fancy science mumbo jumbo. So, I went on with my life, or...what was to become of it, my careless days of yore. I sho

The list of all the bs you tell yourself before you relapse. (Repost, credits to u/rennault I reposted this for the newcomers to see.)

I relapsed today. Here's a list of the bullshit we tend to tell ourselves before we relapse, and why it's bullshit.

1.) I'll just P without the MO! No, you won't. You'll just P for 4 hours straight until you finally can't resist touching the bulge in your shorts. Voila, relapse.

2.) I'll just see what's new... There's nothing new. Nothing. "Oh, look, it's shot from a slightly different angle." "Wow, that girl has BROWN hair instead of blonde!" "Wow, that guy's dick is big!" There is literally NOTHING new. Nothing worth any of your time.

3.) But I need to jerk off to get to sleep! No, you need to exercise, stop drinking coffee after 2pm, and maybe take a sleeping aid or drink some chamomile tea. There are a lot of different ways you can get yourself tired.

4.) Hey, I've been on a long streak lately. One look/MO session can't really set me back all that far, can it? Yes, it can. First off, there's the chaser effect, which will make it a hell of a lot harder to get back on track. Second, you know for a fact that you're going to feel like shit the whole rest of the day, at least. Third, if you start the cycle of self-hatred again after you realize that you broke your long streak, you're likely going to binge. Hard. And honestly, binging is the only real thing that will truly require you to COMPLETELY start all over again, from square one.

5.) The urge is just too much! Cold showers. The more you hate the cold water, the faster that urge will disappear. Stand under some truly COLD water for maybe 30 seconds, and your urges will be gone. Feeling cold for a little bit and then feeling great for hours is a lot better than feeling hot for a little bit and feeling like shit for hours. Take your pick.

6.) My goal is NoFap, not NoPorn! You are a porn addict. You masturbate TO porn. That's like an alcoholic saying "My goal is to not get drunk, not to not drink at all! I can just drink a can..." Not everyone who does porn is a porn addict. You are. If you want to stop PMO, you have to get rid of the P first. You don't overcome a porn addiction by looking at porn.

7.) I just need to get it out of my system... The only thing you'll be getting out of your system is your sense of productivity, confidence, energy, and focus.

8.) I'm such a loser. Who even cares? Right now, your brain is doing whatever it can to get you to come crawling back for your fix. "Hating yourself" is literally just an excuse to keep doing porn. You don't even realize you're doing it, but subc

PSA: Halo Top Keto Ice Cream Bars are bullshit!

Since last Friday, I've been experimenting with allulose to keep my blood glucose down. To finish a meal, I've been having strawberries with cream and allulose or a Quest protein bar with cup of tea sweetened with allulose. My 2-hour postprandial BG readings have been stellar--110 mg/dL or lower.

However, after lunch this past Sunday, my BG shot up to 137 mg/dL. On that particular meal, I had a Halo Top Keto Ice Cream bar in addition to some strawberries and allulose. Since the ice cream bar has only 2g net carbs, I just assumed that it might have been the extra keto bread I ate (4 slices instead of the usual 2), or maybe it was just a fluke. The keto bread I eat is supposed be to zero net carbs and I've never had a problem just eating a couple slices, but some people have reported BG spikes eating this bread. So, this FUD is always in the back of my mind--maybe I'm just getting away with eating the questionable "resistant" tapioca starch that the bread is made of because I'm just able to tolerate 2 slices at a time. Who knows?

After that high reading, I started having great BG readings again when eating a Quest bar with tea and allulose to finish a meal. Fast forward to dinner tonight. I decide to try the Halo Top again along with tea and allulose. My reading this time is 138 mg/dL--almost exactly the same as Sunday! Now I know the reading on Sunday wasn't a fluke.

I decide to check the ingredient list on the Halo Top box again. I see the erythritol, but I know that doesn't cause me issues. I look closer, and I see the problem--god damn maltitol!

I've tried Halo Top ice cream in the carton before, and it was fine, so I guess I didn't look as carefully when I picked up the ice cream bars. Granted, a postprandial reading of 138 mg/dL isn't too bad, but I can only imagine how high it might have been without the help of the allulose.

So the cautionary tale is that just because you had good luck with keto product by some company, it doesn't mean you're going to have good luck with all keto products by that same company.

Sir Crocodile is the most interesting man in One Piece (IMO) Let me explain...

https://preview.redd.it/gtacc7to5nw61.jpg?width=550&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c81443e226392153da5016c8bbbe7f0b15f9f9c0

Since I started watching One Piece late last year (2020), I thought the series was pretty good from the get-go. Orange Town, Syrup Village...I genuinely enjoyed those arcs. To me, those arcs were exactly what I had always thought One Piece was; a cute pirate adventure. Then...the Alabasta saga happened. Particularly the Alabasta arc itself. When all the rebellion madness happened, I had to stop and check to see that I was still watching One Piece. I was...blown away. No pun intended. Will of P not needed in this case.

Anyways...since the end of the Alabasta arc, the aftermath following Crocodile's defeat, this series went from pretty good to one of the best in fiction, in my book. Politics, world affairs...celebrity gossip...those are just a few of my favorite things. And Crocodile in particular delivered on all of them. My favorite character in One Piece by far. Maybe even in general. I ain't exaggerating. He's a really fascinating dude. Even though the guy is shrouded in mystery (which is part of his allure), Oda has dropped enough breadcrumbs to keep the stans hungry for more. And boy, I can't wait to see this mofo again in the New World!

You know...it's kind of wild to think that his defeat in Alabasta triggered a number of world-changing events. From Luffy catching the attention of the Gorosei, Blackbeard becoming a Warlord, and ultimately, Ace's death. The balance of power in the world was shaken hard. And continues to be throughout Luffy's exploits. All because Luffy and his crew ran into Princess Vivi. Helped her save her country from Crocodile. Freakin' insanity! And while OP is Luffy's story, and we mostly only see how he's changing the world, Crocodile's contributions are mostly ignored. But I don't think that they will be for long. Especially now that we are heading into the Final Saga of the series. Let me dig into it...

https://preview.redd.it/sy5ep9mrenw61.png?width=2048&format=png&auto=webp&s=ebaa8d37ad1dad97dbdafe7d35fc5667887b3e76

Not great with drawing, but here is a really rough sketch of the Grand Line. One thing that is never explicitly stated, but could easily be inferred is the geography of the world's power balance. A quick refresher; the three major powers are the World Government/Marines, the 7 Warlords, and the 4 Emperors. Where we are today in the series is the New World,

My Update on UWMC: The Equivalent of Counting Cards at the Blackjack Table Baby, or Why are ya'll tripping on this fine Stock?

So, I wanted to wait a period of time before writing a update to my due diligence. Some of you might remember my last two due diligences. Well, I’m happy to say that I’ve bought more. So, let’s actually get to the meat and potatoes. If you want some theme music for how some of you people with a bad case of FUD who are holding UWMC are feeling I'd recommend Balduin & Wolfgang Lohr - Dizzy (ft. Alanna). Bonus points if you know the anime/light novel and get the meta meme within.

Please note that this is based on historical monthly median single family home values in the US, that the data is non-seasonally adjusted, and that it is based on sales of existing homes.

· The Median Home Price was $303,900 in January.

· The Median Home Price was $317,100 in February.

· In February, the supply of inventory ticked up by .1 to 2 Months indicating huge demand, and an extreme sellers-market, indicating that home prices will have increased when data in March 2021 is shed on the 25th.

If you would like to do some more research, you can find the NAR data here: Housing Statistics (nar.realtor).

While it is true that existing home sales fell, it is not due to a bubble, but due to supply constraints and unrestrained demand. What you can be assured of however is five things, for Q1 of 2021:

  1. On a seasonally adjusted basis, home sales have increased as you can see in the NAR data. Furthermore, the per home sale profit has increased due to month-on-month price increases. This is because originations usually cost .5-1% of a home’s value. With UWMC’s increasing margin due to its technology, gain margin should continue, and has been shown to have grown YoY.
  2. UWMC has put out guidance of between $52 Billion and $57 of closed loan volume. Last quarter they had $54.7 Billion in 4Q20. On the Mad Money Interview with Cramer, the man said they were on track to land right around the middle of that. That provides, impetus for me to believe they will meet, or exceed guidance. They had Net Income of $1,001,925,000 after the impact of an estimated effective tax rate of 27% in Q4 of 2020. Total Gain Margin may be a little lower, as they are stating they will have a gain margin of 200-235 Basis Points, as opposed to 305 Basis Points in Q4 2020.
  3. It is important to know that while they do refinance, their bread and butter is and always has been the purchase market. However, in 2020, however, they turned off F

First Contact - Fourth Wave - Chapter 461

[first] [prev] [next]

The day was overcast, chosen that way specifically by the people manning the Planetary Weather Control. There was a light blustery wind, a chill that cut through the jacket, vest, and flank sash. The clouds were low and heavy with bluish lightning snarling deep inside. They no longer held the threat of fallout or radioactive rain, the Terran nanotech doing its job quickly to clean the radiation from the air, ground, and water. The lightning was a byproduct of the nanites discharging, but it completed the look for the dreary gray day.

The entire capital was hushed. The main road from the starport to the nearly founded Grand Mausoleum of History was blocked off on the sides, armored sec-beings moving back and forth to keep the crowds back. For the crowd's part, they were mostly weeping, many kneeling, with crying children throwing small flowers out toward the black grav-cars that slowly moved by, pulled by ancient draft animals despite having their own motors.

It wasn't all the dead of the fierce fighting to save the Artcarick, there were far too many to have a procession for all of them. It wasn't even all the dead humans. No, that was impossible. Across the entire stellar system there were only two humans left of the thousands who had defended the system with their very lives.

They had died within days of the final fight, leaving behind shocked and grieving Digital Sentiences and silent wargear. It was as if without battle, their spirits simply abandoned their bodies. They had slumped down, fallen over, and in a few cases, had seizures.

And then they were gone.

At first it was feared there was betrayal or an attack by the Unified Council.

Then the terrible word had come.

It was everywhere. In less than a standard week the human race was nearly extinct.

Two remained in the Artcarick System. One a low ranking infantryman, the other a Space Force Naval Officer. Both of them appeared on the Tri-Vee often, looking washed out, their eyes haunted, almost like ghosts that had not left the party.

And so the grav-cars slowly moved down the main avenue of the capital, heading for the Grand Mausoleum. Bodies of Maktanan, Carikan, Lanaktallan, Telkan, Rigellian, Treana'ad, Mantid,

TITLE: I am 32 years old, make $83,000, live in southern California, and work as an accountant.

Warning: SUPER LONG, tons of irrelevant detail, contains a birth story. I signed up for the week and decided to keep track of the week before, and it just happened to be an insane week that's not at all typical in many, many ways. Originally I was hoping to do a "pregnant, white collar professional taking a week off in a suburb/city" kind of thing, but midway it changes when my water breaks. Much of the hospital stay is spoilered.

#BACKGROUND:#

My parents are immigrants and came to this country with pretty much nothing, as many immigrant stories go. They worked very hard (and lucked out in purchasing a home in a safe neighborhood that blew up to VHCOL some decades later).

####Childhood: I grew up safe and well-fed, though my parents were very frugal in some ways and not at all for others. For example, we rarely ordered fries or a soda or even a cheeseburger when we got fast food, because fries were “just potato” and my dad said a can of soda and a slice of cheese costs $0.10 from the grocery store. However, my parents (well, my dad) also told me to NEVER accept gifts “from boys” and if I wanted anything, they’d buy it for me. My dad made me return Valentine Day/birthday gifts from any male, so growing up I learned to hide (or eat) all the gifts I got from the opposite gender.

I really thought we were “poor” growing up because my dad told me so, and I was/am not bright enough to realize that we were solidly middle class (upper middle class later as my dad’s career progressed). My parents never denied me anything I wanted, though I never asked for much, probably because my dad kept telling me we were poor, and also because my parents preemptively gave me everything I needed/wanted. Yes, again, I was not bright enough to realize that the two statements contradicted each other. (In my defense, most of my friends came from at least similarly well-off families. At 16, one of my friends totaled their new Lexus and their parents bought them a brand-new Mercedes to replace it! So I, with my old, second-hand Honda that my parents gave me, did not understand how privileged/well-off I really was. Pretty much EVERYONE got or had use of a “free” car of some kind from their parents in high school. It’s those kinds of things that kept me from realizing why I wasn’t actually “poor.”)

####College: College was never a question for me. It was assumed I would go. Every single one of my friends went to a four year and everyone was competing to get into the

The Future Seems “GOLDEN”

This post isn’t sentiment, nor is it analysis. I’m connecting dots that haven’t shown up. Will they? I’m not sure. But from multiple “angles”, I keep coming to a similar outlook of the future. And it’s looking like an economic “BOOM” So maybe, just maybe we already won. For me it’s escape, a way to procrastinate from looking at the stock, I’ve added bits and pieces the last couple of days, and it’s long so feel free to skim or read at your own pace, maybe when you need a break from things.

I’m using bearish fallacies like “no earnings”, “having debt” and that things never change as an overall downward pressure. And in contrast, I’m combining that with bullish fallacies as in “wishful thinking”, “the best” and “stubbornness/attachment” for upward pressure. In tandem, these factors are in constant reiteration and from the sinusoid wave that these points manifest, I start graphing a velocity line.

Now for what’s “writing”, it’s all based on everything we’ve seen during the “pandemic” (chaos set) and I’m using that to project forward while not breaking the 2-3 sigma (bollinger bands) of the “fallacies” moving average. This is in order for the outcome to never be too dramatic and cause a rapid change, shocking the system.

Alright, so pandemic and other events occurred, the “chaos” of it all had a huge positive feedback loop, from the opposites of “doubt” and “panic” not being opposites that balance out, to an abundant “auto-pilot” behaviour all over the place fuelled by just trying to get through it all. This made many “entities” in every affected system very easy to read, and also opened many opportunities for a “shift”, a pivot basically. Many restaurants are the prime example of this, sadly a lot of them didn’t pull through, but many that were “really liked” sustained. Others did their “due diligence” and learned how to utilize the technologies available in order to reach out to their existing clientele and potentially a whole new set as well, through online delivery apps. I’m not saying that all the ones that did close, deserved it or weren’t “strong” enough. I’m saying that many were on the verge to follow and “adrenaline” kicked in. Which brings us to the major fallacy that ties everything.

The “customer” is always right.

This is a mathematical term, that the “numbers” don’t lie, if a location isn’t optimal or the “menu” or service isn’t good. You will have less of an income and the earnings will show that it’s time to look at the “fundamentals”.

“Ayanami, wait! It’s us!” Zed tried again, pushing engines as fast as she could in pursuit of her former comrade. Javelin was pulling ahead of both her and Laffey, even closing some of the distance between them and their friend’s hull, but neither side dared to fire. The unnatural water below slapped against their hulls as they cut through it in pursuit of the endless horizon.

“Ayaya, do not do this to Laffey. Laffey wants to nap somewhere warm again. This place is not good for naps, no no. Stop running,” the sleepy rabbit tried her hand.

“How can you think about sleeping at a time like this?” Javelin demanded nervously, pacing her bridge as the seemingly endless, otherworldly storm dominated her vision.

“Laffey can always think about sleeping,” the Union destroyer replied simply. Ahead of them, Ayanami shook her head and slumped defeatedly over her steering column.

“They would try so hard to get me to believe them? Something bad must have happened. I should hide. Stupid, neverending world. Take me somewhere else. Take me somewhere else. Take me somewhere else!”

Over the horizon to their stern Ark Royal shut her eyes tight, reeling as a sudden bolt of lightning arced from the sky to sea. It temporarily blinded her, disintegrating the lead elements of the aircraft surveillance chain that she’d sent after the destroyer trio while the main body of Thorson’s fleet carried on in hopes of finding some way to escape whatever pocket dimension they’d thrown themselves into. After shaking her head furiously she radioed Arizona. While limited sharing of minds was all well and good during the heat of a firefight, the girls and Thorson had quickly come to the conclusion that under other circumstances regular methods of communication were best. “Knight Commander, we have a problem.”

Finally, I’m putting my theory from over 3 years ago into a new perspective! Thanks to the newest Detective Conan case (files 1070-1072) which by giving one of my biggest old theories more ground, it opened up the horizons for thoughts and ideas to dance around new areas, allowing me to have more creativity trying putting them into new perspectives…

I would like to thank my friends, Joey, BK, and MTX, for openly discussing those ideas with me, helping stabilise things up and tying points from various points of the story together cohesively!

If you haven’t seen it yet, my wildest big theory from over 3 years ago that I’m basing this one around is [ Rumi being Elena’s sister - therefore Mary Rumi Elena are three siblings ]

Quick flashback to the burning tent case, one of the first big cases after introducing the three main suspects of the arc; Haibara - out of character - in that case showed comfort towards a very suspicious character, Rumi! In short, this made me think she could be a very close relative to Atsushi, his sister was what I was leaning towards. However, after seeing Elena’s flash back with Rei in file 1011 in early 2018, it became quite clear to me… not Atsushi, but Elena!

To not make this intro longer than it already has been, lemme just copy the quick summary of the theory from over 3 years ago:

Rumi is Elena's sister is basically a simple theory:

  • Second point, Rumi and Elena really do look alike... They look very similar to each other, they have pretty similar faces with very similar expressions, Elena did talk some dark shit to a 9 years old boy similar to Rumi's hidden dark personality ("if you cut open the humans and remove their skin... a lump of meat and blood..." - Elena to a child)... A PvP Analysis of the Great League Remix Meta

You ever played "Chutes and Ladders"? Some may know it better as "Snakes and Ladders", or even the original "Moksha Patam" as it was known in India, where it was invented before eventually being brought to England and spreading from there. Whatever version you play, the concept is basically the same: you win by advancing to the last square on a large board, aided by ladders (which advance you ahead several spaces) and hindered by snakes/chutes (which slide you backwards several spaces).

Why am I going into a history lesson over a board game? Because it ties into how I chose to evaluate the Great League Remix meta. Niantic chose a list of the 10 most used Pokémon (according to their metrics, at least) and plucked them out of the meta, and now we're left to pick up the pieces and see what else we have to play with. But it's not as simple as just moving everything else up 10 spaces. Removing something like an Azumarill has a ripple effect... there are things that are normally suppressed by Azu's presence that can now pop their heads out of their holes and come into the light, or things that are very, very effective against Azu that may now suddenly have far less going for them. In other words, various Pokémon will suddenly find themselves climbing up ladders and surpassing many other Pokémon, whereas others will find themselves in freefall, sliding down chutes (or... uh... getting gobbled up by snakes, I guess?).

So I am going to quickly go through the bans and then examine the new meta that is likely to form in their wake, and look at what's on the rise and what is more likely to slide into the depths. In other words, this will NOT be my standard "Nifty Or Thrifty" analysis article, but hopefully it's still able to get you started!

Here's the full ban list, reordered with their rank (according to PvPoke) in Open Great League play.

Azumarill (3)

Galarian Stunfisk (4) and Stunfisk (120)

Swampert (9)

Umbreon (20)

Skarmory (32)

Venusaur (42)

Galvantula (45)

Talonflame (71)

Alolan Marowak (92) and Marowak (287)

Raichu (171) and Alolan Raichu (173)

This is a good opportunity to talk about rank, as it will play into discussion below as well. PvPoke does a better job than most of ranking Pokémon in PvP across all three leagues. I won't pretend to know all the math that feeds into rankings, but I do know that in discussions with Mr. PvPoke in the past, he has an algor

Sugar free, mostly, almost 30 years

I am posting my story in the hopes that it can help encourage anyone interested in dropping the addicting pure white stuff from their lives. Just for the record, I am over 55 and female, and have been fortunate to have always been within the recommended weight for my height on those height/weight charts.

I have raised two children (they are in their late 20s now), been to every event possible: Thanksgiving dinners, weddings, office space with sugary sweets in them all the time, staying overnight with relatives which seem to have sugar as a mainstay, etc. and I have avoided it. It is possible to do this. It can take years to hone all your strategies. It’s that 10,000 hours thing. And, it is worth it!

Keep in mind as you read this, my issue is with refined sugars, not carbs. Some might have issues with grains, etc, but that’s not me. Some say fruits are high in sugar. True, however, I have never felt drawn to eat a whole bag of apples, but I could eat a whole box of Apple Jacks if I didn’t know better. I am talking about REFINED SUGARS. This is what works well for me. Again, I am not overweight, and exercise regularly.

I’ll share my main rules that have worked for me first, and then my story below. This is just what works for me. What works or doesn’t work for you is your deal.

My main rules that keep me on track:

  • I avoid any food/drink that has any refined sugars high on the list of ingredients.
  • I avoid any food/drink that can arouse the dragon of addiction. Rather, can I eat one serving, or will I want to eat the whole bag? Will it make me want to eat sweets for days (like an addiction)? If it will arouse addiction, I say no.
  • I (almost) never share with others that I avoid things high in refined sugars. Most likely they are addicts and telling them can make others feel like I’m judging them, and I’m not.
  • When in social situations that involve sugar, I go to the situation prepared with excuses: “I’m full from my last meal,” or “My digestion’s a bit off right now,” or “Maybe later,” etc.
  • I do not have sugar in my house. I’m fortunate that my husband is like me, and we did raise our (now adult) kids without sugar in the home.

My secondary rules to support the above:

  • I’ve found fruits do not arouse my addiction, however, I limit fruits. I generally have one frozen banana in a protein smoothie in the morning and occasionally a bowl of frozen berries at night. I might have one or two apples a year.
  • I occasionally (once a month?) have a few d

Update on doctor troubles - also more venting ahaha :')

Okay so I posted a while back about some fat shaming my new doctor was doing, if you want the tea on that, you can check it out here.

With everyone's advice and the support of my friends, I switched doctors.

However, I had gone to that doctor about 3 times for my hypothyroidism and PCOS diagnosis and treatment because he said I couldn't switch and until treatment was done.

After this third appointment, I decided to call the one I was planning on switching over to and ask if it would be okay to switch in the middle of treatment. She said she could handle it, so I have made an appointment with her next month.

After officially telling the previous doctor I am switching, my insurance finally receives the info for all 3 appointments. I apparently owe $195 per appointment.

I call insurance and ask why I owe so much. The insurance company states that they don't cover health issues caused by being overweight (huge wtf moment for me btw). However, while the insurance rep was looking over my bloodwork they noticed the hypothyroidism and PCOS. They told me that the doctor listed all my health issues under a weight problem, including my PCOS and hypothyroidism, both of which actually cause weight issues. They had to send it back to the doctor for them to change the diagnosis for what I am being treated for.

At this point, I'm wondering if this was a genuine mistake or if this doctor is just really out here acting like a dang fool. :/

Anyways, sorry for the vent y'all. I'm just getting so tired of this and needed to let it all out. Ahaha :')

I'm 32, make $52,500, live in Central OH and work as an Operations Analyst

Section One: Assets and Debt

Retirement Balance: $16,500 in my 401k; $4,591 in my pension (no longer being contributed to but it will continue accruing interest); $450 in a Roth IRA and about $1000 in company stock and ETFs.

Savings account balance: $10,011 in my emergency fund, $2,050 in a down payment fund for replacing my car some time this year. My Prius is 13 years old, with 225k miles. The hybrid battery was rebuilt by a very good friend last May for $100 + parts (and I owe him the world for it), but when it goes again I plan to replace the car entirely. At the start of this year I decided to open a separate savings account specifically for this purpose. Once that is done, it’ll be repurposed into a future home down payment fund. I also have about $300 in a sinking fund.

Checking account balance: $1,057 at the start of this diary.

Credit card debt : $7,755 across 2 cards, which is less than half of what it was 2 years ago. This accumulated from a combination of being extremely low income in my early 20s (less than 18k/year working in retail and living alone), and then depression shopping/ covering bills in an emotionally and financially abusive relationship that I left 3 years ago. When I got the position I have now, I was finally making the income I needed to start tackling this debt. I’ve been using the snowball method and its been incredibly satisfying seeing each card zero out. Once I get it to about 5k, I plan to do a balance transfer to a 0% interest card since I’m confident that’s an amount I can knock out in the 0% period. I’ve never missed a payment though, and now that my utilization is below 20%, my credit score has been soaring**.**

Student loan debt: $17,500. 2 of the 3 loans are in deferment due to COVID and I’ve been taking advantage of that to put that money toward higher interest debt. This is for an anthropology degree… I do not use it.

Section Two: Income

Income progression: I worked various retail jobs until 6 years ago when I got into the call center sector of my current employer, at $12.95/hour. I jumped around a few times for various smaller raises, until landing my salaried position at $50k/year 2 years ago.

Main Job Monthly Take Home: $3,194 (post tax, 401k, insurance , etc).

Section Three: Expenses

Rent: $761

Electric: $50-$75

Water: $15-$25

The List of Things Nightingale Does Not Allow in Chaldea

1. Dr. Romani Archaman. The infirmary is a place where the wounded go to be treated. As I am now Head Nurse, I order you to cease and desist from sneaking your snacks into it. If you cannot bring yourself to stop, do not fret. I will let you choose which will be removed. Your stockpile or your tongue.

You're an oni! -Dr. Romani Archaman

No, I'm a nurse. -Florence Nightingale

2. Blackbeard. If you "creep" on Euryale again, as she puts it, I will be forced to amputate your genitals. They are clearly the reason you keep coming here with arrow wounds, and their removal will cure that.

2a. Blackbeard, this also applies if Euryale sics Asterios on you. While the symptoms are different, the underlying cause is the same.

2b. Euryale. You cannot attempt to have Blackbeard's genitals amputated by forcing the above symptoms on him.

Tch -Euryale

2c. Blackbeard, while you have been Altria Lily's training partner since January, if you continue to assist her I will be forced to castrate you or lobotomize you. Please choose which you would prefer.

3. Altria Lily, your pleas will be ignored. He comes to the infirmary, therefore he has an illness or injury. And I, as head nurse, will cure it even if it kills him.

But Mister Blackbeard will die if you kill him! -Artoria Pendragon Lily

Nonsense. He has battle continuation. Therefore even if I kill him he won't die. This is common sense. -Florence Nightingale

4. On a related note, Altria Pendragon. If you and your assorted clones continue to suffer stomach pains after meals, I will either need to amputate your stomachs or speak to Emiya about cutting your portions. You choose.

This means war. -Artoria Pendragon

You're the last person I want to hear that from! -Artoria Pendragon

5. Jack the Ripper, Nursery Rhyme. Upon reviewing the Servant medical records, it has become apparent you have not received standard childhood vaccinations. You will report to the infirmary immediately.

6. Atalante, the fact they came to you with tears in their eyes does not negate their need for vaccinations. They are a danger to the entire facility otherwise. If you are sheltering them in your quarters, bring them here.

A Russian woman, whose country was falling apart :

"When your mother was pregnant with you, it was terribly inconvenient. The Cold War was ending. Her country was falling apart. Everything she had ever known... "

A Russian woman, a KGB officer, who had been assigned to get close to him:

"35 years ago, a Naval intelligence officer working for the US government fell fell into a relationship with a beautiful Russian woman. Unbeknownst to his superiors, that relationship, which started as guarded attraction, quickly evolved into passion, which resulted in pregnancy. They had the child. A girl, whom they both loved. What the Naval officer didn't know, but certainly should have suspected, was that the Russian woman was a KGB officer that Katarina Rostova had been assigned to get close to Raymond Reddington and steal classified information from him."

A woman he really did not know what had become of her, and he likely had believed her to be dead:

"A mother who died of weakness and shame."

"Nobody knows you're alive."

"There was a time in my life when I was quite sure I knew exactly what happened to Katarina Rostova. But after all these years, I'm not sure I have any real sense of how or why she disappeared."

For Trotsky, eating well isn't easy when you're a revolutionary.

Trotsky, one of the co-founders of the Russian revolution, who was later killed on Stalin’s orders, loved fine food.

Yet life as a revolutionary meant he didn’t always get to eat well.

Here’s a look at Trotsky’s culinary life.

Receiving a food package while in prison as a young man:

At the end of the third month, when a straw-filled bag, prison-bread, and lice were the fixed elements of existence, as much so as day and night, one evening the guards brought me a great bundle of things from that other, utterly fantastic world; there were fresh linen, covers and a pillow, white bread, tea, sugar, ham, canned foods, apples, oranges – yes, big bright-colored oranges! Even to-day, after thirty-one years, I list all these marvellous things with emotion, and I even pull myself up for having forgotten the jar of jam, the soap and the comb for my hair.

Meeting a fellow revolutionary with strange tea-drinking habits (Russians normally drink black tea with a slice of lemon):

He taught me to drink tea with apple instead of lemon.

On a ocean voyage from Spain to New York:

The Spanish company charged high fares, and provided bad accommodations and even worse food.

When taking power with Lenin in the Kremlin:

The food at the Kremlin was then very bad. Instead of fresh meat, they served corned beef. The flour and the barley had sand in them. Only the red Ket caviare was plentiful, because its export had ceased. This inevitable caviare colored the first years of the revolution, and not for me alone.

All extracts taken from Trotsky's autobiography, My Life.

Itinerary for first time solo trip - tour or no tour? any advice welcome

Hi everybody!

I'm a soon to be college graduate looking to go to Japan in early June of this year. My mom is willing to pay for a ticket to Japan as a graduation gift, and she's encouraging me to join one of the different tour groups so I won't be traveling alone. She sent me a lot of the options from AJT (all japan tours) -- here's a link to one of the options:https://alljapantours.com/japan-group-tours/trip-detail/anime-flavor-tour-tokyo-and-kyoto-summer/?an=sear#onDetailTab

While those do cover some of the spots I'm interested in, it's not the experience I'm craving for my first visit to Japan. A tour might not be necessary & more expensive than it needs to be. I'm open to the idea of having an independent adventure on my own (and at my own pace), but I can understand the pros to traveling with a company and a group.

If I were to approach this trip on my own, I'd mainly want to stay in the Tokyo area to make traveling easier, especially for my first visit. I know basic Japanese phrases and I've been using Duolingo for around 3 months, but I don't feel confident to rely on it (apparently that's not a huge issue though).

I've heard that some people have had success staying in airbnbs in Shinjuku as opposed to Tokyo, so I think that may be the best option. If anyone has any advice on that or any specific airbnbs they've stayed at in that area that would be super helpful!

The days are not set in stone and the order doesn't necessarily matter either. I put together this itinerary so that if this is my ONLY chance to go to Tokyo, this is everything I'd like to see:

DAY 1:

  • From airport to Shinjuku (or wherever my hotel/airbnb is)

DAY 2:

  • Meiji Shrine
  • Yoyogi Park
  • Spend the rest of the day in Harajuku - Daiso, shopping, food

DAY 3:

  • Shibuya crossing
  • Hachiko statue
  • Exploring Shibuya, shops, Don Quijote, food

DAY 4:

  • Akihabara - exploring, shops, food
  • Super potato

DAY 5:

  • Tokyo skytree
  • Senso Ji Shrine
  • Explore Sumida area for shops & food

DAY 6:

  • Los Apson record store
  • Suginami animation museum
  • Ghibli Museum (idk if I can get tickets if I’m not on a tour, this trip is a bit last minute)
  • Explore parks, shops, & food in that area

DAY 7:

  • Sanrio Puroland
  • Explore shops, parks, & food in that area

DAY 8:

  • MT FUJI

  • Last day in Shinjuku (If

Happy Friday! I made a new list and reviews!

This time I picked the best fic posted in each year from 2001-2021 based on what I read. Definitely not any objective ranking! We are spoiled for choice with heaps of great fics, so it's really impossible to pick a best fic by any metric. I broke the ties based on my subjective opinion. The criteria I used to select - each fic meant something to me at a fundamental level, I read it multiple times and I think about it frequently.

Since older fics often got posted on LJ or Geocities, I gave it my best effort and tried to go with the archiving dates on public websites as much as possible. Sorry about any mistakes on posting dates!

FROM A PROFESSIONAL CHEF TO YOU: The tricks that anyone should know when they buy food.

I wager everyone here knows some of these things, but I’m gonna list everything I can think of in regards to eating healthy and well. I’m gonna make this a list with sections, so hopefully it’s easy enough to parse.

—————-LEGUMES———————

-Buy these dried as often as possible. Keep a stock of beans, lentils, and dried chickpeas around if you can. They’re cheap, almost always available, and virtually imperishable. As such, assuming you don’t throw them out and keep them properly stored, buying these is a 100% return on your investment.

-Legumes are one of the most versatile options in your kitchen. As long as you soak them and put them in the fridge before you go to bed they’ll be available the next day to cook quickly. These are the best thing to have if you’re looking to stretch a meal because of their nutrient density and the fact that they’re just damn delicious on their own.

-Look into middle-eastern and African cuisine for creative ways to use these ingredients. Some really common examples are lentil curry, hummus, falafels, and putting chickpeas in a shakshuka. This isn’t a recipe post, so look up how to make them yourself - some grandma has a better (and probably even cheaper) recipe than I do.

————-GRAINS AND CEREALS ————

-Like legumes, these are very versatile. However, I find most people know very little about them outside of wheat and maybe oats. I highly recommend learning what the most commonly eaten grans and cereals in your locality are, and then finding the affordable ones. There will be at least one. I guarantee it.

-FLOUR is an essential staple, unless you’re celiac or gluten free - a topic on which I won’t speak because I’m confident anyone who has to deal with those issues knows more than I do. I recommend grabbing all-purpose flour due to its gluten content being a middle ground between low-gluten pastry flour and high-gluten bread flour. You can still use it to make bread, and it has a myriad other uses as a binder or thickener for sauces.

-RICE is amazing, as most know already, but seriously - it’s one of the most important crops in the world. It’s kept civilizations alive on its back for all of recorded history, and it’ll keep you alive, too. There is no better “fill me up” food I can think of. Wait for those huge sacks of rice to go on sale (it happens pretty frequently), then buy 2. They last forever. Ideally grab long-grain rice if you’re just looking for a side-dish or fried rice base, but in a pinch short grain’ll do

My list of cryptos and the reasons behind it.

Before starting reading this, get yourself a cup of tea, beer or a glass of wine, as this will be quite a long post.

There is no TLDR, like there is no easy money to be made, either read it all or just skip it.

Also, this is not financial investment, invest at your own risk!

LTO Network what is LTO?

As a blockchain project the LTO Network has a pretty long history, although it didn’t actually start out as a blockchain project. The project began in the Netherlands in 2014 as a tech startup focused on company incorporation, and within a year it grew to account for roughly 10% of the Dutch market. The team behind the company soon saw that workflow automation was a huge need in the marketplace and they began delivering centralized software solutions in 2015 to many large European corporations.

They soon began to find that the efficiencies of automation were only present when the software remained insular. As soon as collaboration with another company, or even another department within the same company, became necessary any efficiencies disappeared. This is the well known “silo effect” and it prevents companies from reaching the next level of efficiency despite business process automation. To help solve this problem LTO Network turned to blockchain technology as they saw it as a way to maintain efficiencies without compromising the data security of firms. Since 2017 LTO Network has been focused on using blockchain technology to improve workflow automation for B2B clients.

Use-case Driven Design

Unlike some other blockchain projects that were created as a solution to hypothetical problems, the LTO Network blockchain was created to solve some very specific real-world problems. It was structured with the needs of its corporate clients in mind. By creating such a hybrid blockchain the LTO Network has been able to find a way to bring together the corporate and blockchain communities. With a public blockchain that’s run by staking and is GDPR compliant, and a private chain that emphasizes transparency and efficiency, the LTO Network best serves the needs of all users.

Strong Go-to Market Strategy

The LTO Network is somewhat different from other blockchain projects in that they have a strong business strategy and marketing plan. They are essentially focused on two primary features: integrating the existing products to build connections, and developing their own products that can help their clients realize the benefits of blockchain technology without sufferi

Some of you might recall the previous versions of the Rules of Tech Support. Unfortunately, that was three years ago. I decided it was time to do an overhaul. I am posting the main Rules here and the others can be found over at https://github.com/morriscox/Rules-of-Tech-Support in both text and Markdown versions. The other sections are Users Will, Techs, Management, Mantras, and Phrases.

Rules of Tech Support

Rule 1 - Users lie.

Rule 1A - It may not be malicious or willful, but Rule 1 is always in effect.

Rule 1B - Users assume you don't know they are lying.

Rule 1C - Users continue to lie as a result.

Rule 1D - When caught in a lie, users get angry.

Rule 1E - Users lie even when they aren't users.

Rule 1F - If they are not lying, then they are wrong.

Rule 2 - Explain everything as simply as possible.

Rule 2A - There is no language simple enough to make a user understand anything.

Rule 2B - Emojis are NEVER an answer.

Rule 3 - User caused problems are caused by tech support.

Rule 3A - As it's your fault, they don't want to be billed.

Rule 4 - If it doesn't work, it is your fault.

Rule 4A - If it does, you had nothing to do with it.

Rule 5 - If you take the time to visit the user's desk, the problem will magically have fixed itself.

Rule 5A - Or the solution is bound to be really simple.

Rule 5B - Or the user left the office moments after entering the ticket, and won't be back for days. How long is uncertain as these users never use their calendar.

Rule 5C - Or when they do, they won't have shared it with you or they entered an all-day event as taking an hour.

Rule 6 - All users consider their situation to be more important than others, even if they know you are helping someone else.

Rule 6A - All users want VIP treatment.

Rule 6B - But they don't ever want to pay for VIP treatment.

Rule 7 - It doesn't matter how much time the user claims something will take. See Rule 1.

Rule 8 - Users never read error messages, if they read anything at all.

Rule 8A - If a user reads an alert or error message, they don't know what to do even if they can only do one thing.

Rule 8B - The more advanced degree a user has, the less likely they are to read anything.

Rule 8C - Users already have a certificate of proficiency in computering.

Rule 8D - If a user receives an error, when asked what it says, the user will reply: "I don't kn

I Just Finished All of Stephen King's Novels (except Later). Here are my thoughts.

I have been a King fan since high school. When COVID hit and I was in quarantine, I decided that I was finally going to read or listen to every Stephen King novel. I just finished this week (except for his new one, Later, which I can't wait to start).

Here the list in chronological order with some of my thoughts on each. Next, I may rank them. Be careful reading ahead if you don't want spoilers.

1974

  • Carrie - As a debut novel, this delivers a heartfelt story and shows so much promise. Carrie has entered the mainstream ad nauseam, but the source material remains a chilling tale about a daughter and her mother. This starts Constant Readers on a long path of telepathic/telekinetic powers.

1975

  • Salem's Lot - One of my favorites, if not my favorite. King is able to take classic stories/lore, in this case, vampires, and iterate upon them. I couldn't put this down. I think about Mark Petrie often.

1977

  • The Shining - I was really familiar with the movie before reading this. I was also familiar with King's criticism of the movie. The book is so good in its depiction of alcoholism and fatherhood. While the movie is a classic, this book is a classic for different reasons.
  • Rage - I had to find a digital copy of this through a school library. Frankly, I was disappointed in how difficult it was to find and I wish it was still in print. I can understand why it is not in print but this form of censorship doesn't sit well with me. Despite this, I think Rage is a thoughtful portrayal of teen angst and male energy.

1979

  • The Long Walk - One of the lesser Bachman books. At times, this one feels as monotonous as the walk itself. However, I find myself thinking about the ending often.
  • The Dead Zone - Essentially a thought experiment on the old "would you kill baby Hitler" question. This premise has only grown tiresome in the digital age but, The Dead Zone is still a solid thriller featuring a great main character and a heartbreaking romance.

1980

  • Firestarter - A great story with a great pace. The supernatural elements are light so it is accessible to a wider audience. A good story about parenting.

1981

  • Roadwork - I love this book. Such a staggering examination of grief and the lengths we go to during that process.
  • Cujo - A claustrophobic monster tale where the monster is a good boy at heart. Exciting and gripping.

1982

  • The Running Man - As a big fan of the movie, I was puzzled how the movie stemmed from this novel. Per

##ICYM: Pashinyan answered several questions relating to war and negotiations on Wednesday

https://www.reddit.com/r/armenia/comments/mqzgvn/apr142021_1_pashinyan_reveals_details_about/

##Pashinyan about forming a Truth Commission, fall of Shushi, and 2016 April war:

[Have you drawn any conclusions or made army reforms after the war?]

The reforms have begun but it's a long process. I support the MPs' idea of forming a Truth Commission to answer questions about war.

I also have specific questions about the fall of Shushi. I have not said it publicly so far, but privately I raised questions over the fall of Shushi. I directed my questions to specific individuals.

We need to assess how true the military reports were. Were there any distorted facts in those reports? If yes, was it done intentionally or accidentally? There should be a Truth Commission to find answers to these questions.

The 2016 April War Investigative Commission has finalized the report. It hasn't been publicized yet because most of it is top secret. It is for the state apparatus, the Defense Ministry, the Parliament, and the Government cabinet.

It contains answers to specific questions which cannot be declassified. We examined which parts are top secret; it's about 90% of it. The report will be taken into account during future army reforms.

##Security Council shares transcripts of meeting between CoGS Onik and Pashinyan / before and during the war

Read this for context. Pashinyan offered opposition LHK leader Marukyan to read the security council logs, but the latter refused. "It's Pashinyan who has to prove that he is telling the truth."

Security Council publishes the documents and said: back in November [after war], Onik Gasparyan claimed the following, "I was appointed as CoGS on June 8 and already by June 12, I submitted a regional analysis and our army's capabilities to Premier, and a few days later to Security Council."

However, during the June 19 Security Council session, no such report was submitted by Gasparyan. He submitted two reports, which are proven by the session's recording.

Gasparyan also said, *"On the 4th day of the war, I presented our losses and our assessment, saying that steps should be taken to stop the war within 2-3 days, otherwi

Just found out and... idk. Feel an overwhelming need to talk about how I got here and maybe have someone tell me I wasn't close to just going to bed and never waking up.

Starting about 2 weeks ago I went through a series of doctors appointments after showing up to urgent care with what I thought would be an ovarian cyst about to burst. No cyst found (that's still an ongoing saga) but because I'd been losing weight steadily without trying (dropping underweight even), and presented with a number of other complaints (extreme fatigue, obscene thirst, etc.), the doc ordered blood work to check for hyperthyroidism (which seemed like it would explain literally every ailment in my post puberty life).

When I got the results back through the app, my thyroid looked fine but I was a little confused/concerned by some of my other numbers. I skimmed past them, figuring if they were truly concerning, the doc would have mentioned them when she called to set up a follow-up for 10 days out. If she didn't think it was urgent, I shouldn't worry either! But I couldn't stop thinking about how out of range certain values were... a blood glucose value of 456. A1C (a term I didn't understand at the time) of 12.9. Urinalysis showed ketones over 160 mg/dL, glucose in my urine as over 1000 mg/dL... Everything was reading way outside of the provided reference ranges. But the doc hadn't said anything... and I'm a hypochondriac... and what do I know about any of it?

Still I couldn't stop thinking about it. So after not being able to get in contact with my PCP to sooth my worried mind, I called a teledoc to ask "Am I reading this right...?" I was genuinely surprised to hear confirmation and couldn't fully believe that this doc was nearly insisting I head to the ER if possible and certainly not to wait over a week to speak to the doctor if I couldn't. So I went. Did not expect to be admitted or have anything long term come of it but two days later, I'm discharged with a type 1 diagnosis.

Was I in as much danger as it kind of seems? For like... 8-9 months, I'd been eating entire catering trays of fruits every couple of days because I just could. not. quench the thirst. Drinking smoothies and juice and lemonade and iced tea (and liters of water) just to do anything to stop feeling like I was stuck in a dessert. I figured my apartment was just too dry. I was eating high calorie (through the easiest means available: high carb, sugary junk) because I was starting to really get concerned about not being able to control my weight loss. God. The results came back the day after my birthday, which I'd spent all weekend celebrating with sugary drinks, desserts,

Chapter 101: Phone call

The next few days had passed mostly without incident, being broken only by messengers handing off a few things. They had received word that Tom was indeed on the mend and walking about by now. The reports of his physical condition weren’t great, but his head at least seemed okay. He had grown rather weak in addition to developing a kind of trembling. Apparently, even drinking a glass of water without spilling was a challenge for him at the moment.

That was what the stuff sent with Tiguan was for though, and it sounded like Jarix would be back in the sky just in time for them all to meet up at home. Ray had been left in the caring hands of Haiko for the day as they were gonna be heading to the academy. They had rented a room for her, much to her protest. She claimed that she could sleep on the floor just fine. Dakota hadn’t budged though, so she had her own room and they had all put together a little pocket change for her for drinks or whatever else she might fancy.

Maiko was following along as they made their way to the academy, his head still on a swivel all the wa

The Best Purchases you have ever made under $100!!

Hello Redditors, what are the most useful products you have bought that cost less than $100!? I am more interested in how it has improved some of your routines or how functional but cheap it can be at the same time. We will keep it as simple as possible and keep these products in two tiers. PLATINUM TIER – the best of the best items that you will always use, are grateful for, dramatically improved a stress, etc. GOLD TIER: Same criteria as platinum, but you know.. less

Platinum:

  • Mack’s pillow soft, Sillicone Putty Earplugs ($12.99) - (I will never travel without these earplugs ever again. Block out so much noise, so comfortable for sleeping on your side. Durable earplugs that anyone can use.)
  • Thompson Tee T-shirt ($28.99) – A shirt that stops sweat from seeping into your other layers. This shirt is an essential every time I put on a dress shirt, so that sweat stains aren’t visible. I have worn it all day and my underarms have been dry, and have NEVER left sweat marks on t-shirts, sweaters, or hoodies.

Gold Tier:

  • Apple EarPods ($44) – The Apple wired headphones, have lasted me for years, and have been through at least 3 wash cycles and still work superbly. Great audio quality, and is far superior than other headphones <$50. These are a staple in my everyday routines.
  • Swell Bottle (~$40) - Have been using it for 4 years, very durable and still keeps water, coffee, and tea a consistent temperature throughout the day. A bit pricey, but well worth the money and has the company has a great return policy.

I am really interested to see what items people find essential under $100 and hope to grow my list. I know this is not directly related to personal finance, but can definitely benefit some people and save them some coin. Cheers!

I’ve never sent any kind of food in the mail before, is there anything I should know/tips before sign up starts? What are some things that would be for sure okay to send? Has anybody had problems sending food before? Is one company better to use than another for shipping (ie Canada post vs fedex) I’m in Canada and looking to do a same country exchange.

Thanks in advance

Edited for spelling

Which bloggers are you reading?

I've found myself missing the Helen's Closet Wednesday Weekly blog roundup, so I'm wondering which bloggers still post regularly. Unfortunately, sewing bloggers don't seem to get into the shenanigans that the regulars in r/blogsnark do, but it'd still be nice to know what everyone's reading. I've made this (very incomplete) list of bloggers that I read regularly/occasionally/never, so please enjoy and add your own in the comments.

Handmade by Carolyn - detailed project posts, and she's branched out into selling her own patterns.

C Sews - detailed project posts, some industry interviews, and the pattern company drafting heights chart.

Attack of the seam ripper - detailed project posts, and works and models for Deer & Doe so she has in-depth opinions on their patterns.

Michelle Sews - good mix of indie and Big 4 and she's started her own pattern line.

Merrits Makes - has it all. Pattern + fabric store collabs, trendy indie garments, clothes for kids, planning posts, tutorials, etc.

Seams Like Sierra - stays on top of plus size fitting commentary and does a lot of the monthly sewing challenges.

The Little Pomegranate - garment sewing, cricut-ing, and some other crafts. her garment sewing features a lot of hacks to be hijabi-friendly.

Try Curious Blog - I personally avoid interacting with her posts, but she wins for best blog name and her blog is a great resource with a lot of detail. she kicked off the color palette trend among instagram sewists.

Blogless Anna - is always testing something, so she's a good resource for new patterns or smaller companies. She also finds fun, offbeat textiles to work with and her pressing game is undefeated.

Katie Kortman - yes, she has a blog. No, I won't be commenting further.

Zoubi Zoubisou - her posts always have excellent photos and her garments are high-quality and creative. She also sews some Big 4 patterns.

Sew DIY - garment sewing, quilting, and household items. since she launched

Budget Breakdown/Wedding Recap: $20K HCOL (Chicago) Spring Saturday Wedding

I loved the budget breakdowns when I was planning so figured I would share my own from April 2021 in Chicago. We planned for around a year and a quarter, no postponements; though we did have to make arrangements for dealing with covid-19.

A couple photos focusing on photographer stylized shots and showcasing a bit of the venue (I LOVED her work, I usually hate how I look in most photos and loved these).

Adriane's photo style was amazing. I've never felt prettier.

SUMMARY

The wedding: 40-person, Saturday Evening in April 2021 in Chicago, where we live and the majority of our friends and family live close by. Flights were required for 5 attendees.

About us: late 20s professionals

Length of relationship/engagement: 5.5 years / 18 months

Original Budget: 30K

Actual Spent: $20,596

Wedding Vibe: For us, our relationship has been about food and travel. Living in Chicago for us has been about food and beautiful architecture/old buildings. We wanted to prioritize these things in our wedding. Our main focus was Venue and Food.

Invited: 54

We only invited immediate family and close friends. Aunts/Uncles/Cousins didn’t make the cut with the exception of our officiant and his parents. We both live a few hours drive from our home towns, and our friends have mainly stayed in the area with a few branching out. Guest list was 23 people in-town (plus 7 plus ones), 9 people who could drive 4-6 hours (plus 1 plus one), 8 people with a 2-6 hour flight (4 plus ones), and 2 who drove 14 hours because my MOH was too pregnant to fly. Anyone in a relationship got a named invitation for their partner and we gave everyone else a plus one. We assumed most of these unnamed plus ones would go unused (9)

RSVP’d yes: 42

This was very close to what we anticipated. Most of the no’s were plus-one declines (8), one couple that was worried about Covid and didn’t have their vaccine yet, and a great-Aunt and great-Uncle we invited because we “had to” but knew they wouldn’t come.

Attended: 40

One of our flight-requiring friends ended up having to work, so she and plus 1 didn’t make it. They informed us the day after the wedding.

COSTS

All numbers include tip and tax.

Venue: $3750

  • Ceremony and Reception venue: $3750 ($3500 plus $250 tip)

After years of pressuring me to have children, my mom accidentally helped me decide to be CF because her manipulative behaviour backfired

(English isn't my native tonge, my apologies) I have a non-western background and breeding in my culture is something that is more important than having a career or education. I have a mom who is the type to encourage teen pregnancy. She is the type who would make holes in a condom if she wanted to. She always hopes I am pregnant to the point that when I want to announce anything in my life, she would ask whether I was pregnant before I could say anything.

I didn’t care for having kids when I was younger because I have chronic illnesses and pregnancy seems like it will rip my body apart. When I was 18 I was surrounded by friends and cousins who got pregnant and encouraged me to get pregnant as well. Whenever my mom sees a family member who gets pregnant (some aren’t even adults yet) and it’s clearly not planned, she sees it as a perfect life and keeps guilt tripping me to follow their lifestyle. Whenever I gain weight because of depression, my friends and family would assume (not ask) that I’m pregnant. It's so rude and dehumanising.

At my mid twenties I wanted children. I wanted to wait until I wanted it, not because of the social pressure, but I can't deny it didn't have an influence. First I had to wait until my partner was ready for it. Years later he was ready, and we started trying to get pregnant. At the same time I was going through several jobs and education, bought a house, got married. My partner has paid a large part as he had a steady job, but I arranged everything on my own. This happened while having chronic illnesses, I worked my butt off.

We discovered after years of trying that my husband can’t have children. Did my MAL care? Nope. Did my mom care? She didn’t care whether I kidnapped someone else’s kid, she only wants to brag that she has grandchildren. Wants me to immediately persue other means without taking a step back what I want to do. Even my therapists were either pregnant or had children so they couldn’t be emphatic for my situation. After coping with that, we contacted the fertility clinic, but just before covid, my body broke down. Couldn’t use my arms and legs for months, had to rehabilitate myself because of covid. Lost my job, had to change my entire life because I sometimes felt like a plant whose body is constantly on fire. Nowadays I live with my three cats and partner and his job pays enough to sustain our lives. I worked on being happy to exist. I’ve found a calmness in me and followed my own path in lif

Brokerage: $84,000 - as I'm saving for FIRE, I'm counting my brokerage in my retirement balance. This is mostly in VTSAX with a small amount in international

Equity: $45,000 (my half), put 20% down on $300 ($30k my half)

Savings account balance: $10,000 - this is my emergency fund and I do not touch it

Checking account balance: $2,000 - I just invested as I will get paid this week of this MD and try to make sure my balance doesn't go above $3-5k.

Credit card debt: none, I pay for everything using one credit card since I like the points and pay it off in full each month. My husband and I track expenses - he pays the mortgage and I buy most things on my credit card so it tends to even out.

Student loan debt: paid off I graduated with about $31,000 in debt. I made the decision to go to in state school for a cheaper education, and chose to live at home. I was very fortunate to have a great relationship with my parents. They sometimes helped out here and there with school bills, but maybe max of $3-5k. I paid these loans off two years after graduating, and last year found out my parents still had a $4k loan out that was linked to my education apparently - so I gave them the money to pay it off.

------SECTION TWO: Income

Income Progression: I've been working in my field since 2017, my starting salary was $62,000.

I worked all through college 25-35 hours/week during the school year at mostly earning $10.70/hr. During summers worked 40+ hours a week. I only took one summer off when I studied abroad.

I graduated 2015, and immediately left to teach English abroad for two years. Met my now husband there (we were both working abroad). I made ~$32k (including bonuses) my first year of teaching, and became head of my office halfway through my first year and earned about ~$60k (including bonuses) the next year. I didn't save any financials from this time so the salaries are a guess. I made much less than my peers who stayed in the US, but my lodging, internet, and phone bill were paid for by my company so I was able to save enough to pay off my $35k student

I'm a 37, a single earner making $43,500 a year, live in Maryland and work in Admin/Development for an education nonprofit.

...and with hours of work and proofreading on the diary I had a typo in the title. Nice.

I have only lurked here with my main account, but I've seen people ask for average incomes and single earners so I hope this is helpful or interesting. I live alone (well, it's me and one very fluffy rescue cat.)

I’ve always been a saver. The thing I splurge most on is travel, and I usually spend a couple thousand dollars on a 2-week international trip every year and also visit the west coast to see friends and family in the summer. My other hobbies (fitness, art, backpacking/hiking) are pretty cheap for me as I already accumulated the gear I need. I’m not very ambitious. As long as I feel like I won’t starve in retirement, I’d rather work a pretty chill job at an organization that I feel does good than work more than 40 hours a week or in a field that I am not excited about. This might change in the future.

Section One: Assets and Debt

Retirement Balance: $120,835

403(b) $74,245

Roth IRA $46,590

My 403(b) includes a rolled-over balance from a previous job I had right after college. I didn’t contribute anything to my retirement from late 2009-2015 because I was teaching and traveling overseas and had no US income, and then when I first came back I couldn’t afford it. I haven’t contributed to my IRA since then either, but I now contribute 12% of my pay to my 403b so that I can get the maximum employer match which is another 6%.

Savings Balance: $7,615 I have a savings account balance of $5,120, plus $2,495 in some one-year CDs I bought a long time ago and just kind of ignore

Checking account balance: $10,560. Wow, that’s more than I expected. It’s split between two accounts and I don’t really look at the second one. It just doesn’t seem worth the energy to transfer to a savings account when my interest accrues so slowly. I’ll probably get my $1,400 stimulus payment this week too.

Credit card debt: $0 None that carries over, I make all my purchases on my credit card and pay it off every month. The balance is $846 at the beginning of this diary and the period will close during the week. It’s higher than it has been lately because there is a $225 vet bill for my cat a couple weeks ago.

Student loan debt: $0 I went to a state school back when you could afford that by working part time. I majored in anthropology.

I live alone with my cat, and I don’t have a car but I live in a very walkable neighborhood. My city is HCOL, but it surprised m

Pennies list 4/15 💎🐒

This week: I only picked up more $ZAAG this week after some huge news from their team.

Gonna try something new, instead of fishing through all of the tickers I am going to add a big news section at the top to quickly skim - see if that makes a difference.

Big PRs

$OZSC - had a pair of big PRs this week Ozop West, in California was announced as well as Ozop Asia being announced the same day

$ZAAG - announced that the First Nations of Canada like their grow pods so much, they are ordering 330 of them. That backorder when complete represents $132 million in annual revenue for this tiny ticker. Just minutes ago announced even more! They bought an airplane to transport 500 lbs of product at a time (valued ~$1 million per flight) between the 634 bands of land the First Nations live on.

$VPER - announced a $150 million Joint Venture agreement with BIET Group, this is 2 weeks after becoming current and promising a lot of PRs - this is for a new Hybrid PV-Thermal solar panel

$TBPMF - just got a US Patent for Interstitial Cystitis treatment with THC based medicine on top of that they finished giving paperwork to Canada for their other drug REDUVO which treats nausea and vomiting, targeting anorexia associated issues and chemotherapy side effects. (Both are THC based medicines, they are pushing new grounds getting Gov't approval of THC based treatments)

$ATDS - first [quarter results are in, 75% increase in revenue!](https://finance.yaho
