Why Indonesia, Korea, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Israel have female PMs but USA doesn't ?

here is from Wikipedia : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_elected_and_appointed_female_heads_of_state_and_government

Country - first female head (Year) Sri Lanka 1960 India 1966 China 1968 Israel 1969 Philippines 1986 Pakistan 1988 Bangladesh 1991 Turkey 1993 South Korea 2002

Why yellow and brown countries without christianity as major religion have elected female heads of their country. Are yellow and brown Asian man backward thinking or forward thinking in terms of female rights ?

A more important question is, why USA not have elected a female head. Is it because they are christians or is it because they are white ? Why white/yellow feminists not point this out ?

Looking forward to your opinions.

How two kings came to rule Sparta for over a thousand years

Aristodemus was king of the people called the Dorians. Aristodemus, and his brothers had just begun invading Greece from the north and were planning, and about to launch a campaign to take the southern peninsula of Greece known as Peloponnesus by ship, though Aristodemus died by a lightning strike. His brothers, Temenus, and Cresphontes, who also led the Dorians went on to successfully take the peninsula. According to legend, these three brothers were descendants of the great demi-god monster slayer Heracles, or as westerners called him, Hercules. Because Aristodemus was struck by lightning, and he was no longer able to claim his prize which was the entire kingdom of Sparta, his award was left behind to young twin sons, Eurysthenes and Procles.

The Dorians who saw Aristodemus as their king, did not know what to do with two equal heirs. The elders of Aristodemus’ state decided they must consult the oracle at Delphi as what next to do. With two completely legitimate heirs, they asked the oracle at Delphi, and according to Herodotus she said: “Let both be taken to be kings; but let the elder have the greater honour.” This was the first kingdom in the west to become a double king state around 1250 BC. This was how the ruling dynasties of the Eurypontid, and Agiad began, lineages which would continue on for one thousand years. This event was about 80 years after the time of Agamemnon and the capture of Troy.

When Greece fell into the dark ages not long after and the Mycenaean age ended, Sparta maintained stability and re-emerged as a leader of the Greek world once the classical age began. This continued up until the Greco-Persian wars.

Leonidas of the Agiad dynasty, descendant of Eurysthenes, lead the Spartans and held the pass at Thermopylae from the Persian invasion, while his co-king Leotychidas took on the Persians at the battle of Mycale scoring a decisive victory. Leotychidas then went on and supported the Greco revolts in the Ionian islands near Turkey and helped maintain

Election Summary Sheet: Here are all the candidates on the Republican and Democratic Ballots for Charlotte Voters

I've been doing this for the last 3 elections and people tell me it's useful so here it goes again. There are a LOT of candidates in this upcoming primary. I did my best to provide a summary of most of them (I omitted the presidential candidates, and the board members representing specific districts). I start with the Republican ballot. You must scroll way down for for the Democratic ballot. Independents can choose which primary they want to vote in. If you have comments or additional information to inform voters, please add them at the bottom. Be informed and vote!

Here’s what is on the Republican ballot.

I won’t go into detail on the presidential candidates though it is important to note that there are two serious candidates against Trump. Bill Weld was the former governor of Massachusetts and Joe Walsh is a vocal former congressman who feels that Republicans should get another choice.

US Senate candidates:

Thom Tillis. Tillis is the incumbent first elected in 2014 (who will likely have a tough race in November but should sail through the primary). He stayed within party lines and has supported Trump and has advocated anti-abortion issues and some anti-Internet marketplace actions (e.g. anti-counterfeit measures, the SANTA Act which forces more accountability on the part of marketplace sellers). He calls himself a “common sense fiscal conservative.” He is a critic of tax increases and “passionate about serving active military members, veterans and their families.” He supported Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh and “the President’s stance on border security.” Tillis was previously speaker of the NC House. In the House, he supported the 2nd Amendment, anti-abortion initiatives and voter ID efforts. He lives in Huntersville.

Paul Wright. Wright was a former judge (District Court judge, Superior Court Judge). Wright, like his name, leans right. He has a “lifelong interest in conservative politics.” He believes “Christianity should be rightfully restored to its proper place to protect the rights of the people.” He is worried about dechristianization (“America losing its soul”), supports the 2nd Amendment and the right to bear arms, supports building a border wall and ending sanctuary cities, and wants to reverse same-sex marriage.

Larry Holmquist. Holmquist claims to be a “consistent conservative” and is a far-right candidate. He is pro-wall and 2nd amendment, anti-abortion (he thinks Planned Parenthood is “despicable”)

Effort Post: Where the 2016 Republicans now? And are these mega-primaries a good idea?

Seeing how many Democrats are running for President with slim chances of winning, I wondered what happens to all those who don’t make it. When I went back to see where the 2016 Republican candidates are, I was surprised to find only this short Business Insider article.

So, I’ve written a summary of all the 16 GOP candidates who weren’t elected President: what they did before the campaign, and where they are now. Afterwards, I discuss the comparisons between this primary and the 2020 Democrats, followed by an analysis of whether these mega-primaries are beneficial to the candidates and to the voters. (I had to include this in the comments, since the many links were pushing this post over the character limit)

If you’d like to skip to the analysis at the end, the TL;DR of these 16 bios is this:

10 of them were holding elected office at the time, and only 4 (all Senators) remain. The other 6 (all governors) have moved on to other pursuits, and only Rick Perry (Secretary of Energy) is still in public office. Of the 6 who were not in public office during the campaign, only Ben Carson (HUD secretary) is now in a government position.

Ted Cruz

Cruz assisted in the 2000 Bush Presidential campaign, helping draft legal strategy for the Florida recount. He served as U.S. Associate Deputy Attorney General until 2003, and as Texas Solicitor General from 2003-2008. He returned to private practice until he was elected Senator in 2012. He became famous for his role in the 2013 government shutdown, where his main goal was to defund the Affordable Care Act. He was seen as the most conservative candidate in the primary, and he had little support from GOP leadership. After winning the Iowa caucus, he maintained his position as the second-most popular candidate behind Donald Trump, winning 11 states and over 7.8 million votes (compared to Trump’s 14 million). He and Donald Trump repeatedly [attacked each other personally](https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-cruz-feud-hi

[F](Inquisition) Mind over Matter (12)

Chapter 12: Holding Court

Table of Contents

The Imperial Courts of Justice sat within the heart of Hive Castle, a Gothic fortress nestled in and amongst the Planetary Government buildings, as well as the enclaves of the other Imperial Institutions. It lay along one of the upper hive’s most important boulevards, a single, straight, roadway that ran from one side of the spire to the other, meeting with other roads around the Governor’s palace like the spokes of a great wheel. The road played host to constant foot and vehicle traffic, black-suited Iberian Civil Servants rubbing shoulders with robed adepts of the Administratum whilst Mechanicus officials were borne down the road on great hovering chariots, ducking and weaving above the flow of wheeled transports. The courts were the centre of law and order on Iberia. Within great wood-panelled halls the civil courts of the local judiciary sat, adjudicating land disputes and monopoly laws, whilst in grander chambers the Supreme Court of Nova Iberia performed a continual evaluation of the activities of the House of Lords, ensuring the legislation they passed lay within the boundaries of the Lex Imperialis.

Since the arrival of the Inquisition, the building had taken on a slightly different aspect. Following the attack on the Precinct-Fortress, the Inquisitor elected to move his office to the Courts, so that he may better affect changes to the highest levels of authority. The few, small, windows on the building’s lower floors had been entirely boarded up with heavy metal plates, whilst the occasional glint of a sniper’s scope showed from the tallest towers. Behind the wrought iron fence that separated the compound from the rest of the hive grey armoured stormtroopers patrolled in pairs, maintaining a vigilant watch over the flocks of commuters that passed them by. Entrance to the courts was usually obtained through a great archway that led to heavy wooden doors. This route was now blocked by a dormant penitent engine, flanked by two Sisters in red armour. The crucified figure at the heart of the machine was hooded and bound by ornate parchment, his feeble form a living reminder of the power the Inquisition wielded. An irregular flow of ground transports drove in and out of a side gate that led behind the main building, each pausing halfway through as a stormtrooper scanned them with a device mounted on

Mormon Lies Utah Cries: 24 Utah Statistics You Need to Know

Five years ago, Dr. Nadine Harris Burke released a presentation revealing how Adverse Child Experiences (ACE's) can affect a persons life in many tragic ways. During the presentation she points out that many doctors marginalize these critical issues even when they are right in front of them. She reveals statistics indicating that doctors don't do this because it's a problem for "those kinds of kids in those kinds of situations" because it happens across all demographics. She reveals that it's easier for doctors and all of us to do this because as adults we'd rather be "sick".

For millions of people, that "sickness" can be described in many different ways including intellectual, emotional and physical experiences a person silently suffers as they innocently grow in their family, neighborhood and regional cultures. In some of these micro cultures, there is a habit of inadvertently teaching children an extreme perspective that everything is either "perfect or evil". For millions of people suffering from ACE's, their emotional defense mechanisms can eventually contribute to them unknowingly applying this harmful perfect or evil "splitting" perspective into other aspects of their lives. As Dr. Burke demonstrates, millions silently suffer from this in unimaginable ways. This includes a child emotionally carrying a parent's fears as a falsely perceived way of protecting them. The collective imagination of Utah's victimized micro-culture perpetuates this in many ways.

Tragically for millions of people, this "sickness" becomes an injury exasperating false crutch. Rather than healing, the failing crutch is leaned on more and more allowing the self-destructive habits to metastasize and perpetuate throughout many aspects of the persons life, from generation to generation and throughout familial, neighborhood and regional micro-cultures.

This "sickness" is further evident in the extreme corruption and gut-wrenching real world statistics found in the State of Utah. This real world, invisible "State of Emergency" is happening at the silently metastasizing hand of the State's political, legal, municipal and educational devices.

OF ALL STATES IN THE NATION, UTAH MAINTAINS:

Documenting Jesuit trained and Catholic Chiefs of Police

The Police are huge part of the control mechanism the Jesuits and the financial powers have put in place to socially manage there exploitative system of domination and control. The Police are not here to "protect and serve" at all. They actually have absoultey no obligation to protect anyone at all--as the Jesuit educated/Catholic lawyers who dominate the U.S. Supreme Court have ruled! : https://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/28/politics/justices-rule-police-do-not-have-a-constitutional-duty-to-protect.html

Police in the United States were created primarily to manage slaves in the south, and break up strikes and labor protesters--to protect the private property of the financial elite and Rome . Peter J Doeswyck in his book Catholic Victory in 1960, speaks on how Rome uses the Police for its own ends.

" Getting back to the “dictatorship of fear and reprisal” of the old democratic bosses, the first thing it imposed on a city was a Roman Catholic police force. This police force controlled and still controls the Catholic underworld and collects from it mil¬ lions of dollars to perpetuate itself in office. It is not a coincidence that in Chicago, a city of prostitutes, bookmakers and gangsters, the Catholic bishop receives car license plate no. 1 to indicate that he is the first citizen of that city. Underworld slayings, though often forecast by our newspapers, are never solved by such police departments. Illegal gambling is exhibited publicly in the streets. Sometimes the Catholic police and the Catholic underworld clash when the first tries to extort too much money from the latter. “Three hundred of the city’s biggest bookies,” reported the New York papers, “shut down their telephone services and went on strike against the exorbitant shakedowns by police officials” (N. Y. Daily News, Feb. 7, 1947). Statistics show that in that year (1947) New York City was 79% non Catholic, but its police force was 62.8% Catholic, while the higher-ups in that department were 80% Catholic. Once it is in control of a city, this gangster element makes the Catholic bishop its first citizen. It is an ordinary thing in New York to find 100 policemen at the steps of St. Patrick’s during a society wedding or funeral, while not a single one at the door of Rockefeller Center. The cathedral holds 2,000 people, the center 70,000. Not only cities, **but Pro

Experts in authoritarianism advise to keep a list of things subtly changing around you, so you’ll remember. Here's week 37: (July 29, 2017)

Also of note, and a continuation from Week 36: Republicans are turning on Trump - this week, not just in words this week, but in actions. And in response, by firing Priebus and replacing him with a general, Trump seems to be preparing for an aggressive approach towards the legislative branch.

  1. On Sunday, Trump’s comm director Scaramucci told State of the Union Trump is still not sure if Russia interfered in our election. This, just after Pompei, Coats and Dunford confirmed Russia meddled (Week 36).
  2. As Trump floated the idea of firing Mueller, Former CIA director Brennan said elected officials need to “stand up” if this happens.
  3. After Trump said, “we’ll let Obamacare fail,” Trump has taken several steps to sabotage ACA, and make that a reality.
  4. Since taking office, Trump has spent nearly 1 in 3 days at a Trump property, and 1 in 5 days at a Trump golf property.
  5. CNBC reported investors have dumped the majority of ‘Trump trades.’ Investors are no longer confident tax reform, deregulation and fiscal stimulus will happen.
  6. New Yorker interviewed a veteran ICE agent, disillusioned under Trump. The agent said they are explicitly encouraged to pursue undocumented as aggressively as possible, adding “We’re going to get sued.”
  7. He also noted agents no longer look at the “totality of the circumstances,” and that it’s not just the person being removed, but “their entire family.”
  8. Several people were arrested by ICE at the Houston INS office when they went for their marriage interviews for green cards.
  9. Pew Research found that 75% of Muslim Americans believe there is a lot of discrimination against Muslims in the US, and 74% believe Trump is unfriendly towards them.
  10. Thousands marched in Warsaw to protest their right-wing government’s attempted control of the Supreme Court and judiciary. Trump chose Poland en route to the G20 to deliver a nationalistic speech (Week 34).
  11. On Monday, Trump continued to signal the possibility of firing Sessions, referring to him in a tweet as “our beleaguered A.G.”
  12. Trump floated the idea of Rudy Giuliani as a replacement for Sessions. WAPO reported replacing Sessions is viewed by some Trump associates as part of a possible strategy to fire Mueller.
  13. Trump continued to target Sessions on Tuesday, tweeting he “has taken a VERY weak position on Hillary Clinton crimes,” and asking on a phone call with an associate, “What would happen if I fired Sessions?”

[Event] Kuwaiti Political Events, 2023-2026

After the death of Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, his half-brother Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah took the throne and began an innovative and moderately progressive era of modernizing Kuwait. Many banned books were cut back upon, and the LGBT community was finally recognized. At the same time, there was still much work to be done, and the main political battle of the mid-decade became that of democracy and liberalization.

August 2023 - Revising the rights of foreign workers in Kuwait

A push to change the notably horrendous citizenship laws in Kuwait has been realized and accepted by the National Assembly and Emir. In mid-August, leftist deputy Saleh al-Mulla and the liberal Askar al-Enezi announced a series of reforms that would radically change the rights of migrant workers in the nation of Kuwait.

Originally, only those with a Kuwaiti father and foreign mother would be granted citizenship in the form of half-parentage, but now all people with at least 50% Kuwaiti ancestry will be granted citizenship at birth or via optional residency. By a much closer margin, there is also now a process for the naturalization of workers. Said laborers must have legally resided in Kuwait for more than 5 years, speak Arabic, and have a job; upon being deemed eligible, they are now able to receive any and all benefits attainable by regular Kuwaitis. Any foreign-born workers who have been residing in the nation for more than ten years are instantly granted citizenship and are permitted to hold passports and vote.

The most controversial aspect, which barely passed, was a law that blacklists every employer accused of mistreating migrant workers and prohibits them from hiring citizens of any nation (including those from the West). What didn’t pass was a petition to force the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor to publish a list of said blacklisted companies, causing al-Mulla to call him “a disgrace to Kuwait.”

Finally, the “kafeel” system, in which a local employer must sponsor migrants to allow their entry, has been abolished. Designed to deal a blow to the real issue of human trafficking, migrant workers now must only apply for a visa and fill out an application to be accepted into the nation to work.

April 2024 - Ahmed Al-Sadoun dies

Today, the nation of Kuwait suffers a great loss. Ahmed Al-Sadoun, the former Speaker of the National Assembly from 1985 to 1999, has passed away at the age of 89. In a long and prosperous

Dubunking Myths about Hillary defending rapists.

I know this subreddit isn’t supposed to be pro-Clinton, it’s mainly just an anti-Trump platform. But with that post debunking The_Donalds K.K.K meme. I thought I should make my own posts debunking other myths about Clinton not as an endorsement of her but just as a clarification of facts.

A “correction of the record” if you will.

Myth: Hillary volunteered to defend a man who had raped a 12 year old girl and after getting him found not guilty she laughed at the victim and called her a slut, mocking her in court for being raped.

Even though this has been debunked by Snopes and various other fact checking websites and Media Watchdog groups. Conservatives still are touting this myth as a smear against Clinton.

So here is what actually happened.

In 1975, Thomas Alfred Taylor (41-year-old factory worker) was charged with raping a 12-year-old girl in his pickup truck off a highway in Arkansas.

At his court hearing, Taylor asked for a woman to represent him. The county which this case took place in had six female attorneys in it. The judge looked over the list and picked the first name on it. Which happened to be Hillary Clinton.

When Washington County prosecutor Mahlon Gibson contacted Hillary Clinton. (Age 26 and fresh out of Yale at the time.) She told him she didn’t feel comfortable taking the case and asked to be taken off it. Only for the Prosecutor to remind her that as a court appointed attorney she doesn’t have the right to refuse to represent a client.

(If Hillary had outright refused to represent Taylor not only would her legal career be over but she would likely face contempt of court or disbarment. Which would of made the last 8 years she spent going to law school and being accepted by the Bar Association meaningless.)

Taylor at the time was facing up to 30 years in prison [only for it to be discovered through the course of the investigation that the police had mishandled evidence involved in the case. At t

Day-4 of the May 18th Kocharyan verdict challenge trial.

The families of March 1st victims and the general prosecutor Davtyan have arrived. https://www.armtimes.com/hy/article/164218

March 1st victim families about the events: https://www.armtimes.com/hy/article/164258 -- https://www.armtimes.com/hy/article/164263 --- https://www.armtimes.com/hy/article/164265 -- https://www.armtimes.com/hy/article/164299 -- https://www.armtimes.com/hy/article/164293

Kocharyan's lawyer has asked the judge to recuse himself again. This time his complaint is that the judge didn't let the colleague lawyer speak yesterday, thus "violating rights and showing bias". During yesterday's session, the judge asked the lawyer to sit and wait for his turn to speak, while the lawyer was making a statement which the judge didn't find appropriate for the specific topic that was being discussed at that time. The judge told the lawyer he would be given the opportunity to speak, but the lawyer kept talking over the judge, creating a heating confrontation. At one point, a Kocharyan lawyer swung a finger at the judge, which made the judge feel threatened/angered.

The prosecutors argued against this new petition for recusal, calling it an attempt by the defense to delay time. Prosecutor asked the judge to consider warning the defense for "abusing their rights" to hinder the court's work.

In the end, the judge refused to recuse himself.

....................................

The general prosecutor accused the defense of applying moral and psychological pressure on the court during their press conferences, and during a previous court trial in which Kocharyan threatened that anyone involved in this lawsuit will answer for their actions "very harshly".

https://www.armtimes.com/hy/article/164225

..................................

At last, the court is discussing the actual case. The prosecutors have asked the judge to overthrow the May 18th verdict that freed Kocharyan, because they believe it was done with errors.

This is the prosecutor's reasoning for the error: Earlier, the court was given evidence about reasonable suspicions that Kocharyan violated the Code 300.1 . The court did not find these suspicions to be invalid, yet the court decided to check the C

What A Day: No-mentum by Priyanka Aribindi, Brian Beutler & Crooked Media (11/2/18)

"No sane person prefers whiskey to a strawberry daiquiri."—Ben Shapiro, owning the...libs?

Our Most Awful Person

At a rally in Missouri on Thursday, President Trump made clear what really bothers him about the antisemite who murdered 11 worshipping Jews, and the pipe bomber who tried to murder several of the most high-profile targets of Trump’s smears: They were bad for him politically. “We did have two maniacs stop a momentum that was incredible, because for seven days nobody talked about the elections," Trump said. "It stopped a tremendous momentum."

This is high in the running for the most despicable thing Trump has ever said. The real victim of racist, right-wing political terrorism is him.

Recall that Trump parachuted into Pittsburgh earlier this week, against the express wishes of the victims of last weekend’s synagogue massacre. All the while his mind was fixated on his annoyance that the hate crime had “stopped” his “momentum.” Whether he bears any responsibility for it or not, his comment indicates that the loss of innocent American life means little to him.

This is nauseating, but it’s also reflective of Trump’s blinding narcissism, which makes him incapable of the basic human decency the presidency requires. And it’s been on full display in the closing days of the election.

  • In an interview with Axios this week, Trump admitted that he calls journalists the “enemy of the people” to rile up voters, without concern for the dangers it creates for reporters, because it helped him win the

On Dock Life in East London
by Beatrice Webb

Found it quite impossible to write in London; and wasted a
week in attempting to do so. Interesting dinner with B. Jones
and Mr. Hoffman — Hoffman is a Christian Socialist, and hopes
that the spirit of true Christianity will make it impossible for a
man to need the means of subsistence. Argues that all men have
a right to live and to live well. Does not recognise the fact that
many men do not fit their conditions and cannot be made to do
so. He believes that socialism should be the result of public
opinion; and that a socialist should preach at the corners of the
streets the doctrines they believe in. Would not meet the ques-
tion of increased numbers, assuming that every family was
allowed to increase as it chose and provided with the means of
so doing. [Ms. diary, May 1887.]

As a contrast to my East End experiences, I give a stray
note about a West End dinner-party.

Dined with Courtneys; John Morley, Arthur Balfour, Secre-
tary for Ireland, E. Russell, Editor of Liverpool Post and rising
politician, Mrs. Fawcett and Mrs. Dugdale. Arthur Balfour a
charming person. Tall, good-looking and intellectual. Says
cynical and clever things, which are meant to be cleverer than
they turn out to be. Easy and well-bred — of the old type of
gentleman-politician, a type fast fading out of existence. Is con-
nected with the world of science through his gifted brother, who
died sometime since. The party most harmonious; John Morley
evidently in sympathy with Arthur Balfour, in spite of their
public opposition. John Morley amused us by describing the
Front Opposition Bench, and repeating Gladstone's remarks on
the speeches made. The conversation was easy and pleasant,
but it was all froth. No one said what he thought, and every
one said what he thought to be clever. [MS. diary, May
     1887.]

In after years I learnt to appreciate the subtle intellect
and literary gifts of the author of the Defence of Philosophic
Doubt and the Foundations of Belief. Other entries of the

  • Megan Woods (Labour-Wigram) sought an urgent debate under Standing Order 389 on the allegations of conflicts of interest within the now dissolved Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority.*

    >I have received a letter from Dr Megan Woods seeking to debate under Standing Order 389 the report and referral to the Serious Fraud Office following a State Services Commission - initiated inquiry by Michael Heron QC into allegations of conflicts of interest and the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority, and I have received supplementary information in respect of this application. This is a particular case of recent occurrence involving ministerial responsibility. As the member notes in her application, any application of impropriety relating to the conduct of public sector employees is a serious one. In light of the fundings of the report, the State Services Commission has referred the matter to the Serious Fraud Office to consider whether any of the activity is of a potentially criminal nature that requires further investigation. The matter is now with the Serious Fraud Office for investigation. The House is not prevented from debating matters that are under investigation, but it is not likely to assist the administration of justice to do so. While this matter may receive further attention from the House in the future, I do not consider it appropriate to set aside the business of the House today to debate a matter that has just become the subject of a criminal investigation and the application is therefore declined.

Let's Build an Election!

“Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time." ― Winston S. Churchill

Democratic Elections in D&D

So your town, city, or empire's got an upcoming election for dogcatcher, mayor, or supreme overlord. Whether your players take an active interest in its outcome or not, any NPC who matters in your game will have stakes in a race that oversees their line of work.

An election is a great way to show the inner machinations of your democratic civilization's government and the views of its citizenry. It's also a great time to inject subterfuge, espionage, and scandal into your game. Your players could become candidates themselves, or your villains could puppet things behind the scenes to obtain their desired outcome. There are limitless possibilities, and all of them can have huge consequences.

History of Democracy in Your World

The stability and popularity of democracies will certainly vary widely depending on their history in your world. Is there an ancient Athens-esque democracy that ancient tomes have spoken of, that occasional city-states attempt to imitate? Or perhaps there is a parliamentary system that has lasted hundreds of years, encouraging others to attempt the same system? Or was your nation a pioneer, coming up with the first democracy, inspiring other nations to iterate upon your design, but leaving your own with old laws that make it less fair?

I'll use an example from the campaign I'm running right now. (Curse of Strahd spoilers below)

In the misty Barovian valley, the tyrannical vampire Strahd von Zarovich rules over all. The walled town of Vallaki sits in fear of "the devil Strahd," so much so that the burgomaster (mayor) Baron Vargas Vallakovich believes that the only way to keep Strahd at bay is for everyone to remain happy at all times. He holds festivals once a week with mandatory attendance and participation, keeping Vallakians busy with a variety of festivals intended to keep them thinking that "All is well!" Baron Vallakovich has a nasty temper, and he publicly humiliates or jails dissenters who "disturb the peace."

This was all fine and well, until the PCs rolled into town, incited an angry mob, and cut off the Baron's head. After calming the mob, one of the PCs att

Hillary's record vs. Trump's record

I absolutely trust Hillary Clinton to be a far better president than Donald Trump. Period.

But let's not take words at face value. Let's take a look at what Hillary has done. Because besides trusting Hillary to be a better president than Trump, I trust Hillary to be the same person she's been for the past 47 years-- and the same for Trump. A person's actions through our lives define who we are-- and this can't be hidden or manipulated because the real self emerges with time.

Inspired by the website's new Way Back When feature, I have compiled a list of what Hillary vs. Trump have been up to in the past half century. I know it's easy to have a list of positive Clinton achievements vs. Trump failures, but the below annual list is meant to show just how stark the contrast between the two is.

Year Hillary Trump
1969 Hillary is 1st commencement speaker at Wellesley. She challenges a Senator and lands on the cover of Life Magazine. Trump helps his father manage Swifton Village, an apartment complex that allegedly discriminated against a black applicant.
1970 Hillary chairs a meeting of Yale Law Students where they voted to oppose the Vietnam War. Trump attempts to produce a broadway show. "I pitied it more than I disliked it," wrote NY Times critic.
1971 Hillary interns for law firm known for its support of constitutional rights, civil liberties, and radical support for the poor. Trump moves to Manhattan to rent his first apartment.
1972 Hillary goes undercover to investigate prejudice against black students at a private school in Alabama. Government investigators go undercover after allegations Trump Management is discriminating against minorities.
1973 Hillary goes door-to-door collecting stories about why so many disabled kids are not in school. The Justice Department is suing Trump for refusing to rent apartments because of "race and color."
1974 Hillary publishes "Children Under the Law", one of a series of articles for which historian Gary Willis would call her "one of the most important scholar activists of the [70s and 80s] Trump lies in deposition to government investigators over role in individual rental decisions.
1975 Hillary founds a legal clinic that, to this day, offers legal services to the poor in Arkansas Trump receives what he describes as a "small loan" of a million dollars from his father

[OC] Pyramid to the Stars: Chapter One

Prologue

Two hundred million kilometers from Earth in a, relatively speaking, unoccupied region of space almost halfway between Earth and Mars the object simply appeared. No flash of light. No fanfare. If someone had been staring at the spot the moment before it arrived they may, perhaps, have seen a slight distortion take place. As if the stars had were being viewed through an irregularly shaped lens. Then, without warning, the object was there. Almost three kilometers long and shaped like an arrow head, the object simply drifted for a few seconds as its major power systems came back online.

It took almost thirty seconds for the massive ship to reorient itself and shake off the hyperspace sensor blindness. That was more than enough time for its massive engines to power up and begin the slow and tedious process of accelerating the craft. Slowly but steadily it began to move. The distant pale blue point of light directly ahead of it began to grow. First by mere thousandths of a percent. Then more noticeably. Ahead of the craft in a handful of labs scattered across the globe, scientists swore in unison as their carefully calibrated gravitational wave detectors malfunctioned all at once.

It had to be a malfunction, after all. The alternative was pure nonsense.

It took almost an hour before the scientists in questions managed to contact their global colleagues and to compare notes. Another forty five minutes before they finally grasped the significance of the discovery. More calls went out. Other experts were drawn in.

As approximately the same time the scientists of the world were engaging each other in a flurry of activity, three military superpowers were engaged in their much more tense negotiations. Russia, China, and the United States had each independently detected, well, something out there. Most of the military spy satellites and RADAR equipment were more tightly focused on things happening back on Earth, but that did not mean they did not keep one eye trained on the heavens above. That outwardly focused equipment had suddenly began delivering its own confusing messages.

Each superpower accused the others while professing their own innocence. The situation grew heated as none were willing to back down from their stance that the reports they were receiving had to be related to something that one of the others superpowers was doing. It was only after reports be

A Veritable Feast Of Reality, Choice, & Consequences

Authored by Doug 'Uncola' Lynn via The Toll Online blog,

__Someone I care about got into some trouble the week before Thanksgiving. They asked for my help, and I wasn’t raised to say “no” in such situations. _What ensued were a series of unfortunate events that staggered my mind and challenged my previously naive vision of a moderately benevolent universe._By any definition, any knowledgeable neutral party would say I did everything right, in spite of the dire turn of events that, fortunately, resulted in only a minor loss of time and money on my part; with a still positive outcome for the party I helped.

Even now, looking back, I realize I’d have made all the same decisions with the same information I had at the time. Yet, the mostly-positive denouement of the entire affair resulted in a conclusion I never dreamed possible at the start.

It had to do with a car accident, an insurance claim, buying a lemon, and ultimately enjoying some fine lemonade in the end. The party who I helped is now better off than if my original plans were realized. I will say, however, it was darkest before the dawn, and things should have ended much worse.

I don’t know why it happened; only that it did. And, in spite of my minor loss of time and funds, I now realize I was changed for the better because of understanding, and appreciating, certain solutions of which I was prejudiced against prior. In short, my mind has been opened in ways which will benefit this blogger far more than some money ever could; and my lessons learned resulted in a new willingness to explore every room before locking any doors.

It’s been said wisdom comes from experience. I believe that now more than ever. It’s also true that time is a teacher that kills all of the students.  Indeed. The inevitableness of reality requires honesty and acceptance.

Here is reality:

It’s bigger than me. It washes over like time-drops raining moments on my face.  I can’t grasp anything outside of my reach; or control what’s not mine.

Here is wisdom:

When you’re in the shit, the next-right-move is all that matters.__W.I.N.N. = What is Needed Now.

The Statue of Liberty, Mystery Babylon, Freemasonry and The New Roman Empire / Fourth Reich

The Mother of Exiles and the Destruction of Babylon

I've always thought Mystery Babylon in Revelations was America. Lots of signs point to that. Inanna/Ishtar was known as the Whore of Babylon and Mother of Prostitutes because she supposedly started the practice of sacred prostitution. Inanna was the goddess of love, beauty, sex, desire, fertility, war, combat, justice, and political power.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacred_prostitution

>Sacred prostitution, temple prostitution, cult prostitution, and religious prostitution are general terms for a sexual rite consisting of sexual intercourse or other sexual activity performed in the context of religious worship, perhaps as a form of fertility rite or divine marriage (hieros gamos). Some scholars prefer the term sacred sex to sacred prostitution in cases where payment for services was not involved.

But some scholars believe that this practice never existed and has been misunderstood.

>The practice of sacred prostitution has not been substantiated in any Ancient Near Eastern cultures, despite many popular descriptions of the habit. Through the twentieth century, scholars generally believed that a form of sacred marriage rite or hieros gamos was staged between the king of a Sumerian city-state and the High Priestess of Inanna, the Sumerian goddess of sexual love, fertility, and warfare, but no certain evidence has survived to prove that sexual intercourse was included. Along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers there was a temple of Eanna, meaning house of heaven dedicated to Inanna in the Eanna District of Uruk.

The Statue of Liberty is a representation of the Roman goddess Libertas. Which is a goddess that derived from many other goddesses: Inanna, Ishtar, Isis, Aphrodite, Venus, etc. Ultimately this goddess was transformed in a personification of America and liberty called Columbia. And just like Inanna, is it any wonder America seems to have 2 split sides to it? One side that is sexually repressed and all about virtue. And another that is obsessed with sex, violence, war

    • And she got this blood chit Africa--for all of her work with Boko Haram
    • And all the--the Somali al Qaeda as well
    • But it goes all the way back to 2005 where Stanley McChrystal--General McChrystal gave her a commendation
    • And was gonna put her in to a position
    • She was working with DIA
    • She was working with General Flynn in Army Intelligence
    • And that's when the Andy McCabe SES guy came in
    • And this the other thing is it's almost like the elders at the Mormon Church or at the Navy Masonic Temple
    • She described this one meeting, snd she says the little tells where was an all-hands meeting, and all the SES guys were lined up in the front
    • And then it was almost like Church--there was five pews that were empty
    • Was almost like this no-man's land between the SES and the rest of the FBI-DOJ

Darkplace High Street

After saying they were going to leave the cafe at Wilmington House multiple times and proceeding to stay put, the actually dynamic duo (but not the Dynamic Duo) of Gordon Cole and Alberto Cintron finally did indeed get up and leave to go meet with Nathan Adler, otherwise known as N Thant Leader. At this moment, they were cruising down Darkplace’s high street, which, despite the name, was actually at a fairly average elevation (this joke is solely intended for our American readers. Also, as previously stated, it was sort of on an incline. There was a big hill beside it with the courthouse.), immersed in what was clearly a very high-brow, intellectual type conversation.

COLE: - ALL I’M SAYING, ALBERTO, IS THAT PERHAPS THERE’S MORE TO THE LOCH NESS MONSTER STORY THAN THE POWERS-THAT-BE ARE WILLING TO ADMIT TO US NORMAL FOLKS. YA EVER CONSIDER THAT OLE NESSY MIGHT BE, IN FACT, THE LAST LIVING PLESIOSAUR, A RELIC OF A FOREGONE AGE OF SEABOUND LIZARDS?

Hey, didn’t Andy and Jimmy Wilson have a similar conversation some 60 pages ago? The answer was clearly yes, but this didn’t stop Gordon Cole’s mind from wandering there.

CINTRON: I can’t say I have. I guess I don’t give Nessy his due amount of thought.

COLE: HER.

CINTRON: Huh?

COLE: HER DUE AMOUNT OF THOUGHT, ALBERTO. THE LOCH NESS MONSTER IS COMMONLY THOUGHT TO BE FEMALE, ASSUMING, OF COURSE, THESE NUTTY SEA BEASTIES WEREN’T HERMAPHRODITES.

CINTRON: Oh, of course, my bad. I’d hate to offend anyone here.

COLE: DON’T SWEAT IT, JUST MAKE SURE YA DON’T MAKE THAT SAME SLIP-UP IN FRONT OF NESSY. SHE’S KNOWN TO BE REAL TESTY ABOUT THESE KINDS OF THINGS, YA KNOW. I DON’T CLAIM TO BE AN EXPERT ON THESE THINGS.

He actually did. If you search up “Gordon Cole” on the popular employment service Linkedin, you’ll find “Loch Ness monster specialist” listed as one of his qualifications, alongside “master jenga player” and “CPR-certified.” See it for yourselves, kiddos.

CINTRON: I’ll keep that in mind next time I bump into her while I’m out shopping for humans to eat.

Before Cole could counter this nasty little misconception about Nessy’s diet by informing Al that Plesiosaurs mainly ate small fish, his attention was directed elsewhere, namely out the passenger window of Agent Cintron’s car.

COLE: SAY, ALBERTO, ISN’T THAT DALE?

[Axanda: Brining the Galaxy together]

F-HNN Presents: People of Power

By Ractun Dormus

Strength. Security. Wealth. These were the words that came to my mind as a group of armed humans led me through the Standard of Man, the supermassive ship that serves as the headquarters of Orbital Shipyards and the personal home of its owner, Terrence Holt. Bulkheads thick enough to withstand a barrage from an entire Council Suppression fleet encased security systems more sophisticated than anything else in the galaxy. Cameras watched every inch of the ship, while an army of human security guards patrolled the hallways with mechanical discipline.

It took me two hours just to be escorted through the swath of biometric exams, full body security scans, mental pattern analysis, and pat downs before I was finally allowed to be admitted into the meeting room that seemed more suited for a board of directors meeting than a one-on-one interview. A wooden table, big enough to seat perhaps 50 people, took up the majority of space, while a series of guards standing a bit too close for comfort took up the rest. It seems even in the heart of his empire Holt was reluctant to let his guard down. Not that I can blame him, considering the wealth he controls. One wall of the conference room was taken up by a massive monitor, easily 10 metres tall, displaying a slowly rotating image of Mars. Occasionally the angles would align, and sunlight would glint off on one of Orbital Shipyards orbital shipyards hanging above the green planet’s famous red coasts.

I waited in silence in this meeting room for another hour before Terrence Holt arrived. Unlike many CEOs, Holt did not have the look of someone who spent his life sitting in a chair delegating tasks. Broad shoulders, and thick arms threatened to burst out of his exquisitely tailored suit if he so much as flexed, and hands large enough to cradle a Shinatren’s head stroked his large

[Spoilers] Hawkins Book Club: The Black Sun Overview

Welcome back to the madhouse.

Last time on Hawkins Book Club, we learned that Nichols was personally watched over by God, UFO stealth systems can be foiled by college students, aliens can’t design a functional user interface for shit, the Star Wars galaxy is real, furry aliens exist, there’s an intergalactic empire trying to take over Earth, the majority of alien abductions are actually carried out by the government, a floppy disk can contain enough data to reprogram the human brain, there’s a whole bunch of souls of abused kids just floating around and swapping bodies with each other, the CIA is really bad at assassinations, you can find your destination by bleeding all over a map, you can buy your own isolation tank from a commercial supplier, Eleven was a complete pansy who should have punched out the Demogorgon (according to Moon), UFOs were intentionally designed to look like a 3D vagina, aliens are avid gamers, Nichols lives within driving distance of me and God is a Stranger Things fan.

That said, we are now at the 1997 book The Black Sun: Montauk’s Nazi-Tibetan Connection. The Order of the Black Sun, as you may recall, was the magical cult in which high-ranking Nazis tried to time travel by screwing each other in a mass orgy while this guy watched, so prepare yourself.

Once again, the Prelude is back, and basically recaps the previous books, but with one addition;

> “In the wake of all this, Long Island experience the horrible tragedy of TWA Flight 800 where hundreds of individuals died as the result of an unexplained in-flight mishap. Although many theories have been put forward, the media refuses to seriously investigate the most probable cause of the situation;

Structural failure?

> “a particle beam emitted from a Brookhaven Labs facility which activated a nuclear missile.

…That works too, I guess. So basically those books is going to be all about those dastardly Nazis.

The Introduction finally explains what “Synchronicity” is;

> “Synchronicity is called the fabric of time because it is the principle by which we recognize or know the phenomenon of time. If different actions are aligned and intercede within one frame of reference, they are said to synchronize… What is not so obvious is that people, places and things can also manifest beyond the laws of probability. Synchronicity, but its very nature, enables us to make associations that we might otherwise pass by.”

[OC] The Lords of War: Troubled Child & Lecture 20

[The Helbin had awoken the monsters in the deep. Monsters stronger, crueler, and smarter than their darkest myths could conjure.] (http://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/comments/25l1mq/oc_the_lords_of_war/)

We watched the Lords of War conquer the Helbin without mercy or delay. For eleven Standard Years, it was all anyone could talk about.

What world would the Lords choose to take next?

What would they do with the Helbin once they were defeated; spare them, or obliterate them as ultimate revenge?

When the war was over, would they turn their aggression towards us?

So massive was the war, that the galaxy could not focus on its entirety. Instead, it seemed as if each sector of the galaxy would fixate on some smaller aspect. For the Inward Core, it was the movements of the Lords' 3rd Fleet. For the Golden Expanse, they only ever seemed interested on trying to observe Eight Brothers Front.

I lived in the middle of the Great Arm. And throughout the entire war, we hung on the Troubled Child's every action.

Some explanation: the mammalian lords, the humans, often dropped onto the planets of the Helbin in great pods. As the war entered its third year, they began to replace the pods with massive walking war machines, driven by a single pilot.

One such war machine was the Troubled Child, made distinct by its stark black-and-white coating, covered in emblems of human skulls. On its right arm it carried its namesake, seemingly etched by a medium-grade laser weapon.

Our media centers pored over the war footage to find even split-second glimpses of the Great Arm's newest celebrity. Some weeks they would show the Troubled Child leveling a building with its built-in armaments, and others showing the mech beating a Helbin ground vehicle into scrap when its weapons had run dry.

As far as anyone could tell, the machine was built just like any of the other mechs, but its driver had a cleverness and bloodthirstiness that allowed them to survive every battle. We never caught glimpse of the mysterious pilot, some began to wonder if the war machine was in fact entirely automated.

Towards the end of the war, the Troubled Child disappeared. Rumors spread that it had at last fallen during the final siege of the Helbin's homeworld, but nobody could ever confirm it. The ultimate fate of the Trouble Child was never told, lost in the tidal wave on information that came with the news of the Helbin's surrender.

When people realized the Lords of War weren't going to kill them all,

The Trump-Russia Imbroglio, expose...dlio

I'm going to have to toss some scraps in a separate post. Sessions, Flynn, Tillerson, Mnuchin, Stone, Manafort, Trump Jr., and Carter Page covered here. Alfa-Bank, Satre, and Kushner in the second (those three are boring anyway)

Jeff Sessions - The Fiddle

Former US Senator, now Attorney General, guilty of having two conversations with Russia's Ambassador to the United States while he was still a US Senator.

The first communication took place after a Heritage Foundation event at the 2016 Republican National Convention attended by several ambassadors, including Sergey Kislyak, who spoke with Senator Sessions. The second interaction took place on September 8, 2016, when they met in Sessions's office. At that time Sergey Kislyak was serving as Russia's Ambassador to the United States, meaning that talking to US Diplomats was a part of his job & something he did regularly indeed vice versa.

The vast majority of US senators most likely had some form of contact with an official of the Russian government at some point during trumps campaign, to suggest Sessions should not have or that anyone in the Senate actually assumed he didn't is preposterous. Session’s assertion during his confirmation hearing that he had no contact with Russian diplomat’s was during a conversation about Trump campaign ties to Russian meddling in the election and his assertions implied meetings in that capacity only.

Sessions's crucifixion was over two completely innocuous incidents that would be common for any 20 year senate veteran to experience. Not to mention, he voluntarily recused himself from the investigation following these revelations, something he had no obligation to do legal or otherwise, but did so anyhow a show of good faith.

As for Sessions’ failure to disclose what I believe were those same two meetings on Security Forms. It was revealed in May that his decision not to do so was at the request of the FBI. Why, I have no idea.

>“As a United States senator, the attorney general met hundreds — if not thousands — of foreign dignitaries and their staff,” Ian Prior, a spokesman for the Justice Department, said in a stat

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MR. PRESIDENT. Donald Trump turns 71 today (h/ts Reince and Spicer).

BREAKING OVERNIGHT ... THE LATEST FROM LONDON FIRE -- “6 dead in London fire; figure expected to rise” – AP/London: “London’s Metropolitan Police say six people have died in the devastating fire that engulfed a west London apartment block. Police say the number is expected to rise. Police commander Stuart Cundy says he can ‘confirm six fatalities at this time but this figure is likely to rise during what will be a complex recovery operation over a number of days.’ Cundy says many others are receiving medical care. Some 50 people are being treated in hospitals after a massive fire set a 24-story apartment block in west London ablaze overnight.” http://apne.ws/2srBxu0

--THE GUARDIAN: “The blaze rapidly engulfed the full height of the 24-storey block, and was still burning strongly more than six hours later, with a thick pall of dark smoke visible across the capital. Residents could be seen waving and screaming from their windows, as firefighters wearing breathing apparatus fought to rescue them from their flats. Shortly before 8am, the London fire commissioner, Dany Cotton [said:] ‘In my 29 years of being a firefighter I have never ever seen anything of this scale.’” http://bit.ly/2rgHyFN

Bad Narratives Going Forward in the Age of Trump - by Paul Street (x-post /r/Leftwinger)

The Twitter-addicted right-wing uber-asshole and authoritarian megalomaniac Donald Trump and his team of racist, arch-plutocratic, and eco-cidal vultures are about to set up shop alongside a right-wing Congress and a soon-to-be right-wing majority Supreme Court in Washington D.C. So what if the Republican Party is a widely hated institution, viewed with disapproval by nearly two-thirds of the U.S. populace?

Fourteen Narratives to Reject

As we struggle to build and expand popular resistance in this new era, here are fourteen narratives for left progressives (and others) to avoid about how this happened and what we must now do:

1 “The Green Party spoiled things for Hillary and elected Trump.” This story line is false. The numbers don’t remotely support it. If one makes the very bad assumption that all the voters who selected Jill Stein would have gone for Hillary if Stein had not been on the ballot, then Stein made the difference in Michigan and Wisconsin. But that flawed calculation doesn’t explain Trump’s triumph in Pennsylvania, Ohio, or Florida, all bigger battleground states Mrs. Clinton lost. Stein came in at one percent, nationally.

2 “Hillary was defeated by a big ugly racist, sexist, and nativist white working class ‘rustbelt rebellion’ that catapulted Trump into power.” Nope. The purported great white-Trumpenproletatian uprising has been badly oversold. Trump got pretty much the Republican presidential candidate’s usual voting share of non-college educated whites and whites making less than 50K a year while the Democratic candidate lost working class voters both white and non-white. As the left political scientist Anthony DiMaggio recently noted on Counterpunch, “The real story of the 2016 election is not that Trump won over working class America, so much as Clinton and the Democrats lost it…’Trump did not really flip white working-class voters in the Rust Belt. Mostly, Democrats lost them.’ Per data pulled from various exit polls, Slate reports that the decline of Democratic voters among the working class in 2016 (compared to 2012) was far larger than the increase in Republican voters during those two elections. Of those earning less than $50,000 a year, the decline in Democratic voting from 2012 to 2016 was 3.5 times greater than the rise in Republican voting.”

3 “Vladimir Putin’s Russian hackers did it.” There’s no real smoking-gun proof on Putin’s involvement. The notion that possibly Russia-initiated document dumps to WikiLeaks illustrati

Interesting: Hillary Clinton has been telling America that she is the most qualified candidate for president based on her 'record,' which she says includes her eight years in the White House as First Lady - or 'co-president' - and her seven years in the Senate. Here is a reminder of what that record includes: - As First Lady, Hillary assumed authority over Health Care Reform, a process that cost the taxpayers over $13 million. She told both Bill Bradley and Patrick Moynihan, key votes needed to pass her legislation, that she would 'demonize' anyone who opposed it. But it was opposed; she couldn't even get it to a vote in a Congress controlled by her own party. (And in the next election, her party lost control of both the House and Senate.) - Hillary assumed authority over selecting a female Attorney General. Her first two recommendations, Zoe Baird and Kimba Wood, were forced to withdraw their names from consideration. She then chose Janet Reno. Janet Reno has since been described by Bill himself as 'my worst mistake.' - Hillary recommended Lani Guanier for head of the Civil Rights Commission. When Guanier's radical views became known, her name had to be withdrawn. - Hillary recommended her former law partners, Web Hubbell, Vince Foster, and William Kennedy for positions in the Justice Department, White House staff, and the Treasury, respectively. Hubbell was later imprisoned, Foster committed suicide, and Kennedy was forced to resign. - Hillary also recommended a close friend of the Clintons, Craig Livingstone, for the position of director of White House security. When Livingstone was investigated for the improper access of up to 900 FBI files of Clinton enemies (?Filegate?) and the widespread use of drugs by White House staff, both Hillary and her husband denied knowing him. FBI agent Dennis Sculimbrene confirmed in a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in 1996, both the drug use and Hillary's involvement in hiring Livingstone. After that, the FBI closed its White House Liaison Office, after serving seven presidents for over thirty years. - In order to open ?slots? in the White House for her friends the Thomasons (to whom millions of dollars in travel contracts could be awarded), Hillary had the entire staff of the White House Travel Office fired; they were reported to the FBI for 'gross mismanagement' and their reputations ruined. After a thirty-month investigation, only one, Billy Dale, was charged with a crime - mixing personal money with White House f

How two kings came to rule Sparta for a thousand years

Let's talk about Democracy

Dear Lebanese brothers and sisters,

This is a rather long post but it is also an important one so please bare with me. I feel like we need to have a little chat about Democracy. Now, I’m no expert and I’m not a political scientist, but I have done a lot of extensive reading into the subject. I notice there’s a lot of misconceptions about what Democracy even in the Middle east. The problem is, everyone, especially here, seem to think that all Democracy is, is vote for your representative, and let them do the rest. You see this when the protesters on the streets are told that they are being undemocratic due to them opposing what the majority of the country put in power. This is a false logic. Opposing the popularly elected government IS Democratic, in fact, each and every Democracy has an opposition, except those with one-party system like Syria.

In Democratic countries, anyone, even the minority, can speak against the government if they are displeased. And yes, they can even topple it. That’s why it’s important for Democratic countries and their governments to always stay in everyone’s good graces. For example, the civil rights march in the US back in the 60s? It was a minority demanding rights. But their collective power led them to boycott to such an extent, it was felt by everyone. The right to free expression and assembly is a basic right that, if the people lack, the government will never leave power. It allows the government to maintain the narrative, the messaging, and control what exactly gets out and what we know. A lack of ability to protest gives a perception that the government has the backing of the populace.

For another thing, Democracy has a lot to do with civil activism. This is a component everyone seems to forget. Civil activism is a major part. Without it, it gives the representatives the perception, rightfully so, that their constituents don’t really care much what they do, as long as they do. Civil activism is when you campaign for your own issues, dear to your heart. You don’t see a lot of that here in Lebanon because most politicians don’t talk about issues, they talk about religion. It all has to do with their religion, their interests, what they want to see happen at any given time. Hariri wrote a economic plan, and then opposed it when Diab passed it. Hezbollah blocked the roads in Beirut, calling it a Democratic right, and then opposed it, calling it undemocratic when their hold was threatened. It’s not about issues or even pr

Please help type me. thank you.

How old are you? What's your gender? Give us a general description of yourself.

I am female, 22. I graduated college magna cum laude in mass communications and political science with minors in legal studies, theatre studies, and advertising. Right out of college, I began working on a political campaign, helping mostly with communications, but other things as well. I am pretty introverted, and I appreciate external consistency ( mass transit, class schedules, work) I don’t like down time/boredom, so I try to fill it as much as possible. One of my favorite things about the election season was when I would get home pretty late, and just be able to go to bed early. I then became accustomed to waking up early, which made me more productive on the weekends. I live in a city, which I like, because everything is accessible. I don’t drive - I never really liked it, and I don’t trust other people driving - maybe because the only vehicle I’ve ever felt truly in control of is my bicycle, and i see car crashes on TV all the time, and I saw one in real life when I was 9ish. I am very self sufficient; I do not like to ask for help, because I don’t want to be seen as lacking. I like to know about everything that I care about, which is mostly related to politics, geography, and pop culture (Aaron sorkin writes the best TV). I do not care about sports, though I am pleased whenever I see the patriots or the red sox win, because I grew up in Rhode Island (and being in college in northern delaware when the eagles won the super bowl was maybe the most obnoxious behavior I have ever seen on a massive scale.)

Is there a medical diagnosis that impact your mental/comportamental stability somehow?

No

Describe your upbringing. Did it have any kind of religious or structured influence? How did you respond to it?

I was raised in a structured environment. We had limited screen time, and no video games until I was in 5th grade, when my brother and I got the wii. We went to church (protestant) because my mother took us, but by the time I was confirmed (8th grade) I didn’t believe in god. I went through with my confirmation because I thought I would get in trouble/judged/ I didn’t want to tell anyone who did believe. Similarily, my mother thought I needed to see a shrink in my senior year of high school and she said I could do a trial appointment and I said fine and then they asked if I wanted 5 more and I didn’t want to say no, but I very much did not want to go. The only real memori

Experts in authoritarianism advise to keep a list of things subtly changing around you, so you’ll remember. Here's week 37: (July 29, 2017) - © 2017 Amy Siskind This was a week of complete disarray within the Trump regime: firings, resignations, withdrawals. Trump distracted and played to his remaining base all week by targeting marginalized groups, and ramping up hateful rhetoric

  12. Trump floated the idea of Rudy Giuliani as a replacement fo

How the Day Unfolded

Point of Order

  • Chris Hipkins (Labour – Rimutaka) raised a point of order over members of the executive sitting on parliamentary select committees.

    >CHRIS HIPKINS (Labour—Rimutaka): I raise a point of order, Mr Speaker. I would like to ask you to give a considered ruling on the issue of members of the executive subbing on to parliamentary select committees where the select committee is considering a matter that that member of the executive has administrative responsibility for, or some delegated responsibility for, particularly when it comes to financial reviews and Estimates hearings. The purpose of those is for the non-executive members to hold the Government of the day to account and to scrutinise the actions of the Government. Whilst I accept that there are occasions where junior Ministers will sub on to a select committee to make up the numbers on the Government side, the idea that they would be substituted into a debate on a topic for which they have executive responsibility does seem to me to undermine the basic principle that it is Parliament's job—the non-executive members of Parliament's job—to scrutinise and hold to account members of the executive for their actions.

    >Hon SIMON BRIDGES (Leader of the House): Speaking to the point of order, very briefly—for sure, you will give the member's point thorough consideration—I would simply make the very simple point that these members of the executive, junior members outside of Cabinet, are nonetheless members of Parliament, and actually, given their status, they may well be able to make—[Interruption]

    >Mr SPEAKER: Order! [Interruption] Order! This is a point of order.

    >Hon SIMON BRIDGES: They may be able to help inform the debates in those select committees.

    >David Seymour: Speaking to the point of order—[Interruption]

    >Mr SPEAKER: Order! [Interruption] Order! Can I just remind members to my left that this is a point of order.

    >DAVID SEYMOUR (Leader—ACT): I may be able to assist in two regards: one is that the member is clearly referring to my appearance this morning on the Education and Science Committee, so I make the point that, really, what he is talking about is parliamentary under-secretaries. The Business Committee and yourself have considered where the delineations between parliamentary under-secretaries as members of Parliament and the executive lie, so I think your c

Would the world be a significantly different place if women held the majority of positions of power?

Would the world be different? Why/How would it be different? What's preventing this from happening?

I recently had this discussion at Uni and i would like love your opinions.

By positions of power i'm referring to both business and government. There have now been a number of female heads of state and CEO's, but not alot:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_elected_or_appointed_female_heads_of_state

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_elected_or_appointed_female_heads_of_government

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_female_top_executives

It may help to split up the world into Western Countries and otherwise, the impact will differ depending on region, but its only a suggestion, don't be afraid to make broader arguments. :)
