A few days ago, one of the sub members mentioned that they were building a list of animal sounds to have a reference of the beasts responsible for various strange sounds. The site above has one new one of those as well as a bunch of other resources that we all may enjoy.
Hope it's of use.
Why couldn’t the babies be as calm as the animals? From the way they were wailing, it sounded like I’d murdered their mothers and stolen their toys. I had no choice but to endure their abuse as I stood helplessly in front of them.
I suppose I wasn’t being completely fair. It’s not the babies’ faults they were sent kicking and crying into Purgatory. If I were a truly good person, I’d be feeling very sorry for them - and part of me did feel sorry, a little bit. The rest of me was annoyed. Call me heartless, but there was a reason I’d been denied admission to Heaven ninety-nine times. I wasn’t a saint and there was a limit to my compassion.
Even worse, the three of them should’ve known better. While I called them babies, they were really more like toddlers. One to three years old, according to my experience raising children from past lives. I furrowed my brow, digging into my memories. I could barely recall any specifics, but it seemed like toddlers near their age should be able to walk and talk instead of just sitting there crying their hearts out.
I needed a way to calm them down. What did babies want? Calling their mothers wasn’t an option. Toys? That I could do. I conjured up images of toys in my mind and projected them outwards. A stuffed dinosaur appeared in one hand. In my other, I visualized a toy car, the kind that had small lights and made beeping sounds. That was sure to grab their attention.
“Hey kids,” I said, wincing at how I sounded. I waved the toys around. “Uh, want to play with some toys? Don’t worry, I’m not going to ask how you died. Oh, I shouldn’t have said that. I hope you don’t understand English.”
The children, defying all odds, cried even louder. I knelt down and placed the toys at their feet. “Play!” I said, hoping they understood simple words. “Fun! Games! Please stop crying!”
They didn’t even glance at the toys. “Oh, come on!” I said. “What do you want to play? Peek-a-boo? Are you too old for that?” I tried to run through the list of children’s toys I knew in my head. Stuffed lion - too similar. Legos - choking hazard. A dead mouse - wait, what? How’s that an appropriate toy? Must be from some past life I’m not too proud of.
St. Peter restored my memory, but my most recent life still dominated my identity. I vaguely remembered things like fighting in a war and working in an industrial-era factory, but those memories felt like dreams. Ninety-nine lifetimes of clashing, confusing dreams. I still thought of myself as the unma... keep reading on reddit ➡
I can't seem to get that music out of my head that appears in Episode 1 as the tower opens for the second time for Bam and when Bam asks the Black March for it's assistance (16:33). It's almost like a synth/heavy church metal bell noise mixed with a constant tone vocal harmony.
Thanks to u/johnnycorriander for picking me for the winner in a quiet round last week... this week lets turn up the volume with noises, specifically animal or bird noises, either in your clue or in the answer!
HR is insistently claiming we're approaching that launch day, but the way things currently are (besides bugs, optimization issues, balancing, network issues and UI work), the game is not in a proper state of representation and ''triple A'' polish.
Since most people seem to be reporting on all of the above issues, I figured I'd take the time to compile a list of purely visual and audio things that are far from finished.
I took a lot of time to compile this list, as such this post is specifically meant to be brought to HR's attention, I humbly urge /u/HirezChrisL /u/HiRezJuJu /u/HiRezAlyssa /u/HirezPrettyhair and /u/HiRezAdanas to take the time to check this out!
Please report anything I might have missed so that the list can keep growing and hopefully grab HR's attention.

This is indicative of a number of things, but primarily that they are COMPLETELY FUCKED, and that THE SHORT SQUEEZE IS STILL PROBABLE.
So, where to start – first off, been lurking here for the last couple months, I FOMO’d at the end of January along with a whole lot of other people, before watching the crash down to 38 where I took the opportunity to average down. This started off for me as “fuck you” to spite RobinHood and the Shorts after I watched a YOLO I had put into American-fucking-Airlines crash hard when they shut down our trading. I apologize in advance for what is probably going to be a lot of words.
This is certainly not financial advice, as I am the furthest thing possible from a sound financial advisor. My personal life is a fucking train wreck, I have plenty of vices I battle with, to include drinking constantly and eating crayons, and I suck at picking stocks. Before all this I was down tens of thousands in the market. Never heard about WSB or what was going on here until I saw some buddies mention it on social media. But I’ve always been pretty good at math, and analysis of human behavior and the human condition.
My professional background is in the military, and I’ve been to some very interesting places and gotten to do some very interesting things in my life. I’m not in counterintelligence but the nature of my past positions has had me working with/around those folks for years, and I like to think I managed to learn some valuable lessons along the way. One of my main roles previously required me to constantly study and analyze how certain adversaries think and fight, and develop counter-tactics to beat them at their own game when/if a war kicks off. Not much more I can say on that subject. It is generally my nature to keep such things about myself to myself and those close to me, but I’m hoping I can highlight some things to you retarded Apes, particularly the newest among us who recently FOMO’d and are at highest risk of eventually paper-handing.
Little more about me, so you know this isn’t just bullshit from some conspiracy theorist dude in his mom’s basement – I have a Master’s degree and two doctorates that pertain highly to human behavioral analysis. In my external postgraduate studies, I have specialized in a couple different areas – human sexuality and human history in particular. I firmly believe that if you want to understand human beings and what drives them, you should study those two subjects – psychology, sociology... keep reading on reddit ➡
So, this is the first time I'm attempting to do something like this, but I legitimately think this is a good moment to do a thing like this.
Considering we're about to enter a break, and considering the final page of 1007, discussions will be incendiary. So let's throw our little cap on and start making assumptions based solely on facts and all the details available to us.
I've already started something similar in the chapter thread, but I thought it deserved a thread all by itself, so here we are.
The purpose of this thread is one and only one; discuss the ending of chapter 1007 without headcanon, without shouring for the end of times, without entering panic mode or just throw out random names for the sake of it.
Oda is a damn tease, and often a troll, and we need to take into consideration every single detail he left on our path to this moment, before we make our assumptions.
Here are the rules I'll follow when making the considerations I'm going to make, and I would love for the comments to this thread to do so as well;
We will not consider meta-narrative into the discussion. What this means is not adding things like "Oda would never do this" or "Oda usually does this, so we can expect..." or "This can't happen, otherwise the story would..." and so on as hard-proof or evidence for any of our deductions. At the end of the day, meta-narrative is just a fancy way to say "very well thought-out headcanon". Actually pushing theories based exclusively on meta-narrative not only doesn't really bring much anywhere at all, but puts you in risk to be embarassed together with your whole deep analysis. One example of this is the very common and widespread theory that "Jack will be defeated by Luffy because Luffy has said he wanted to", believing that, since Luffy saying something usually means it will happen, it must happen this time as well. Another big theory - that I subscribe to as well, but that I will never defend - is the 5 act structure that everyone is expecting. Again, there's no proof this is actually going to be the case, and for all we know, it could be a 3 acts structure, but people are waiting with bathed breaths something tragic to happen - something that might very well never do. So yeah, while making all our assumptions and deductions, we will IGNORE every and all headcanon and meta-narrative;
We will not make any sort of judgment on any of the possibilities. What this means is; we're not going to say "If this happens, t
I'm Lemon, head admin of Dota 2 Wiki. For the last 9 years, I've been keeping the wiki updated (with much help from /u/Bu3nyy and others). But I haven't played Dota for many years now, and simply don't have time to keep doing this. So I'm retiring.
Luckily, over the last few years Buny has taken over game mechanics updates, while I still update the hats, events, lore, TI, and generally anything that's not gameplay mechanics. So after I leave, the cosmetics database will stop being updated. Pages for events like Aghanim's Labyrinth will no longer be made, at least not by me.
Buny has said he will keep updating game mechanics for the time being, so don't worry if you only care about hero balance changes. But if anyone wants to help with the other stuff, read on:
#The Cosmetics Database
The cosmetics database is currently 100% up to date (12,294 articles). I've made a page for every single hat and HUD item in the game, except for a few temporary event items. All hats have previews in the form of videos, gifs, or screenshots. All significant customizations (effects, animations, icons, sounds, styles) have been checked and listed on the wiki.
This has taken well over 1000 hours over the years, even with a Python script. Arcanas and complicated treasures can take 3~4 hours, even with my familiar routine/setup. Each summer's TI cosmetics take up to 100 hours. Because of the time needed, I don't really expect anyone to keep updating the hat database. And tbh, no one else has really shown an interest in doing it since the game came out.
If you want to try and update it, just look at any similar page and copy the templates, then fill in each parameter. General information on every item is found in items_game.txt (the schema). To find the full customizations list for making tables, check the schema & the file in Dota Workshop Tools (the in-game displays are sometimes incomplete or incorrect). Icons and sounds are extracted from .pak files. Basic knowledge of Mediawiki markup is nice. Exact spelling of everything is required or things will break. Use the source editor, visual edits suck.

Everything came apart not long after I posted about the fairy being wounded. It was late evening. I was staying near my house as I didn’t want to be in the deep woods until I knew more about the fairy’s condition. There was no indication that anything was wrong. Not until I heard the baying of dogs.
I leapt from my desk and moved as quickly as I could, grabbing shotgun, knife, and jacket before bolting out the door. I ran across the yard, struggling in the deep snow, in the direction of the noise. Not far. They weren’t in the deep woods, at least. My breath steamed in the cold air.
The lead dancer waited at the edge of the woods. Beau was with her. I didn’t stop for them, just kept jogging towards the commotion and they followed. Neither had to run. Somehow, they kept pace with me merely by walking. I hated them a little bit for it.
“The fomorian has been hunting the fairy since their last encounter,” the lead dancer told me. “I’ve had the musicians tailing it. It knew they were there, but it didn’t care anymore. It’s been entirely focused on the fairy.”
“It’s even ignored me,” Beau added.
“Spring is coming,” I gasped, my lungs aching from the cold air. “It’s running out of time.”
“The fairy is injured as well,” the dancer added. “They can’t win this.”
“I know. That’s why I’m going to help.”
The lead dancer’s expression was flat and cold.
“You’re going to die too,” she said.
“Like hell I will.”
She opened her mouth to say something else, but Beau’s hand snapped out and seized her wrist. The pair stopped walking and I slowed only enough to look over my shoulder in surprise. The two stared at each other, the dancer’s eyes wide with muted anger, locked with Beau’s own stern, narrow-eyed glare.
“Let her go,” he said.
“What can a human possibly do against a fomorian?”
“I don’t know, but we’re going to find out.”
He turned to look at me. He nodded slightly. That was the closest I was going to get to encouragement from him. I nodded back and kept going. Neither of them followed me. I was on my own from here out.
It felt… right. Hasn’t it always been this way? Just me up against the darkness?... keep reading on reddit ➡
Here it is, Update 4 out on Experimental. Before you read through everything here, you might want to check out our Patch Notes video showcasing all the cool new stuff that has been added to Satisfactory in this update. Here is the link to the video: https://youtu.be/Dp77ih_XmkY
We’ve already teased and showcased a bunch of the content that you are getting with this patch, but there are some spicy surprises we were hiding until the release. Now Satisfactory is taking to the air with Aerial Transportation for your resources and the Hover Pack to make factory building and traversal extra smooth. Additionally, we have added Lights to the game in a way that should not immediately destroy your performance. We are still working on them, but we hope you will already find them quite enjoyable. On top of this the Power Storage and Generator changes will affect how you deal with dreaded blackouts and the updated Tier 7 and added Tier 8 bring a whole lot of new late game content for you to play with. Together with the new content we’ve also worked on lots of smaller and bigger changes across the game to improve it, there are improvements to networking, optimisations, UI, quality of life, all the good stuff. You can find the full list in the patch notes below.
Of course, this is the initial Experimental release of Update 4 and that means we are still actively working on many of these features and improvements, but now we want you to try them out and give us feedback. If you find issues or have feedback for us, you can post it on the Questions Site or upvote existing posts to let us know what is important to you. The site can be found here: https://questions.satisfactorygame.com/
We are expecting this update to spend around a month on Experimental for us to be able to react to your feedback and fix everything up nicely for the Early Access release. With that in mind we are aiming for it to be fully released on the 13th of April. Fingers crossed on that for all of you waiting for the update to be stable!
Since we are still actively working on this content there are some issues known to us that you can find in their own section at the end of the patch notes if you want to check them first before switching to Experimental.
Update 4 is one of the biggest updates we have made so far. We started working on it after summer last year alongside 3.5, so it is super exciting to final... keep reading on reddit ➡
The latest season of Apex Legends introduces our most explosive Legend yet, a hard-hitting new gun, a world-shattering update to Kings Canyon, and a whole new batch of quality-of-life updates.
Season 8: Mayhem brings the boom starting February 2nd at 10am PT.
Read on for details.
Join the designers as they break down the most explosive updates coming in Season 8.
Meet Fuse: a mercenary-turned-cage fighter who never turns down a good dust-up. His affinity for explosions allows him to carry extra grenades and to throw them faster and further. He can launch a cluster bomb with airburst explosives. And when it’s time to really bring the boom, Fuse uses “Wally” to launch a bombardment that encircles an area in a ring of flames.
Passive - Grenadier
Stack an extra grenade per inventory slot. Fire grenades farther, faster, and more accurately.
Tactical - Knuckle Cluster
Launch a cluster bomb that continuously expels airburst explosives on impact.
Ultimate - The Motherlode
Launch a bombardment that encircles a target area in a wall of flames.
This heavy ammo lever-action repeater boasts hard-hitting rounds that’ll nail a fleeing Mirage at 200 paces.
The 30-30 is the benchmark for reliability, designed to withstand whipping sandstorms and temporal instability, which made it an obvious choice for the Apex Games.
The 30-30 Repeater requires the user to rechamber their rounds between shots which brings a methodic rhythm to the rifle, an analogue elegance that the modern weapons of the Outlands just can’t quite capture.
To further tempt those itchy trigger fingers, the 30-30 Repeater has a built-in charge giving players an opportunity to deal increased damage with each shot at the cost of a short build-up.
The 30-30 reloads one round at a time, which makes for some very interesting resource management you won’t find anywhere else, even on the Mastiff.
The 30-30’s engagement range allows unique opportunitie... keep reading on reddit ➡

Hey I'm a huge fan of the youtuber Digibro. He mentioned in his recent video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLLpgUxgyXc that Tsuneo Imahori has electronic tracks and instrumental pieces that contain parts with synths. Unfortunately he didn't include a list of tracks with his electronic or electronic infused music so if someone could get me one that'd be amazing!
Hello everyone and welcome to the mini rate that you guys all voted for! The Indieheads Exchange! I'm SO excited to be your host for the this great meeting of the minds between r/indieheads and us! Before we get into the indie goodness, here's a quick recap of how we got the songlist in case you are just joining us for this step!
The 40 songs that we will be rating has been decided entirely by r/indieheads, suggested and voted on by their community in the same way that we voted on songs for them! This gave us an interesting set of genre defining smashes, beloved deep cuts, and sub favorites that our lovely sister sub has chosen to best represent their taste in music. Eventually we will hold a reveal in which indieheads becomes disgusted with our results, while we become disgusted in their lack of appreciation of lyrics about stealing mattresses. I genuinely can't wait. So without further ado, let's get into the songs!
Well then part two here we go Not much to say other than enjoy the show

Field Trip Special (Part Two)
Dakota had seen a few pictures of other humans, but she couldn’t wait to actually see one though. Surely there had to be some at a shop. Not to mention, they would never have seen a dragonette, so that should be fun.
She had gotten a window seat with Fengi ending up in the middle, being the smallest. They came across a few other cars going the other way and overtook one too, much to the excitement of the others. More to the point, Dakota was marveling at just how much work had gone into both Tom’s car and also the fact that all the other cars looked very different. He had talked about factories, but the others had to be built in other factories, which meant there had to be a lot of them.
Tom had talked about big supermarkets where you could get anything, this though was clearly smaller, as they pulled into a big square where they parked in a little box that was painted on the ground. There were actually other people walking around, a mother with her child, a group of youths, and a lone man all seemingly unarmed, just like Tom had said. ‘No threats then… that’s nice.’
They had caused quite the stir as they stepped out of the car since, well, they weren’t exactly quiet.
“Do they have sugar here? What about candy?” Fengi started out, gaining the attention of all around, though people seemed to be keeping their distance. Either scared or shocked by what they were seeing. Tom was clearly also looking around to gauge people's reactions as the other girls got out of the car.
“Hey look, a kid. Hello… Wave hello,” Jacky went, holding up Kiran as he waved at the mother with the child who picked up her kid, retreating towards her car.

Every pro is something I would like not only to be adapted into Starfield, but to be improved upon for Starfield. Simply maintaining the status quo isn't what anyone wants.
Every con is something that I think needs to be at least addressed so that the same mistakes aren't made in Starfield.

Hello my fellow Hollows. I have tried to compile a "historical record" of the subreddit, including lore and memes. Please let me know in the comments if you think I am missing anything major, etc. This is possibly only the first draft, we'll see.
#Milestones/state of the subreddit
####In the beginning:
####Things start to get a little weird:
(CW: animal death)
This was pretty horrifying when it happened (for everyone involved), but enough time has gone by now that I can laugh about it. So here goes:
I was in my second year of university. My flat was near a quiet road surrounded by woodland, so we'd occasionally see roe deer and other wildlife roaming around. We weren't that far from the campus, but it was still pretty out-of-the-way.
One night (it must've been around 10pm) my housemate got home, came straight upstairs to my room, and told me a deer had been hit by a car and killed. It was lying practically in the middle of the road. There weren't many streetlights, so it posed a serious risk to any drivers who might not see it in the dark. It could flip up and go through someone's windscreen, or cause them to swerve into a tree.
We considered calling campus security to come and remove the deer, but we knew it would take them a while to get there, so we figured we might as well try and move it off the road and on to the pavement. I grabbed some heavy-duty plastic garbage bags, and my housemate brought a torch. When we got to the place where the deer was, I gingerly put my hand on her neck to check that she was definitely dead.
I almost screamed when she suddenly came to life, flailing her legs out and thrashing and making the most godawful groaning noise. It was like a horror movie jumpscare. We were both very shaken (though thankfully out of kicking range). After that last outburst, the deer unfortunately did pass away - though I think we were both secretly relieved that we didn't have to put her out of her misery ourselves. Killing a half-dead animal with a rock was very much not on my 2018 bucket list.
No cars had come by yet, so between us we were able to wrap the deer in garbage bags and lift it. Once we had it up, it seemed stupid to just dump it there on the pavement when the woods were right next to us. We decided to carry it a bit further out and leave it a sheltered woodland area. I know how dumb it sounds now, but at the time it seemed perfectly sensible.
You can probably guess what happened next.
We'd been walking for a couple of minutes. The bag was leaking blood from the deer's hind leg and it was generally just a pretty messy business. We were talking as we went, and I said something about how I hoped she hadn't suffered too much, and how we needed to find an out-of-the-way place to drop the corpse, etc.
What we did not know is that not that far away, just out of our... keep reading on reddit ➡
This week at Bungie, we returned to Presage.
Before we go about our weekly TWAB programming, we have some required reading! Well, maybe required isn’t the correct word, but you are definitely going to want to read the news that was delivered earlier today about the state of the game and our plans for the future, provided by Assistant Destiny 2 Game Director Joe Blackburn.
We aren’t going to provide a TL;DR, as we want you to go read this thing, but I would like to provide a quick list of topics covered:
Now, we leave it to you to read the article! Don’t worry, we’ll still be here when you get back.
...have you read it yet? Yeeees? Good. We hope that you’re just as excited for the future of Destiny 2 as we are. Now, let’s shift our focus to the live game.
This week has been a fun ride so far! Saladin is not only hosting Iron Banner but has sent Guardians back to Nessus to fight through a fourth Battleground. With approval from the Vanguard, we’ve also been seeing many Guardians venturing back into the Presage mission, uncovering new lore, and finding a sweet new catalyst for Dead Man’s Tale (for those of you who like to shoot from the hip).
Master difficulty can prove challenging, but with the right fireteam, you can absolutely find success. As you venture through this derelict ship, be sure to watch out for scannable objects. They may prove valuable to you on your journey to uncover more knowledge.
The TWAB this week will be looking at a few feedback items concerning Ritual playlist rewards, an update on DDoS protection for consoles, and an announcement of our upcoming Deep Stone Crypt developer deep dive. Read on for more.

"So many books, so little time."
Those are the first words people see when they enter into this subreddit. Those words are also capable of overwhelming most readers with a sense of dread.
Google estimates that nearly 130 million books have been published in modern history. 130 million! If the average Reddit user started reading a book a day, they would only be able to get through a mere 20 thousand in their lifetime. That's a far cry from 130 million. In other words, there is unfortunately no way for any of us to read them all.
This is quite the conundrum, isn't it? If you're like me, you may have tried to solve this problem by searching for a list of the best books every written. By using such a list, one could rest easy and say to themselves, "If nothing else, at least I was able to read ____________ before I kicked the bucket." However, these lists usher you into a completely new world of confusion. There are so many lists, each with its own unique selections, and yet all claim to be the one list to rule them all. Someone must be lying, but you have no way to tell.
I thought my problems were solved when I came across thegreatestbooks.org. It seems that someone compiled data from nearly 130 separate book lists to create the granddaddy of them all. If I'm being perfectly honest, their list is fantastic, and provides an extensive catalogue for books that intellectuals would label "essential" reading. Go check it out if you haven't already. However, it still wasn't quite the master list I was looking for.
Taking inspiration from thegreatestbooks.org, I decided to make my own aggregate list, with the main difference being that I wouldn't weigh so heavily against user generated lists. I would also only pull data from lists with at least 100 books, and include more lists from internet communities. I was pleasantly surprised to find that quite a few of the lists I chose had not yet been used by thegreatestbooks.org. Anyways, after I devised a rudimentary point system, and after a few hours of my time, I finally finished the list. I am pretty pleased with it, as I think it offers a diverse array of works that would appeal to both the casual and academic reader. Sources include lists from Reddit, Goodreads, and 4chan, as well as Time Magazine, The Guardian, and PBS. A total of 10 lists were used.
Without further ado, here are the results:

I have now listened to Vulfpeck’s entire discography, consisting of 4 EPs, 5 studio albums, and 1 live album.
Vulfpeck is a funk band at its core, but I think it’s what many people would describe as a more “vanilla” kind of funk. There’s really not a whole lot of boundary-pushing experimentation going on, but what there is a lot of on their best releases is pure groove. The band absolutely exudes effortless technical skill without coming off as flashy or pretentious. Each member is undeniably talented at their instrument(s) of choice, which results in many songs feeling meticulously crafted despite basically of their tracks being single-take, simultaneous recordings with a decent amount of improvisation. Also, Joe Dart is one of the best funk/soul bassists working today, possibly ever.
The band’s studio output can be divided into two pretty distinct sections: the EP era (2011-2014) and the album era (2015-present). In my opinion, Vulfpeck’s EPs are far more successful as full releases than their albums are. Each EP is a rock solid batch of endlessly enjoyable grooves, purely embodying the initial mission of the band: “to channel the era of the live rhythm section.” Fugue State is my favorite of that initial run, packing in lots of creativity and displaying a laser-focused vision for its sound not quite matched by its predecessors. Only two vocal songs ("Wait For The Moment," "1612") appear in the entire EP era, both sung by friend-of-the-band Antwaun Stanley. They are two of the band’s best vocal features and they fit in perfectly with the surrounding instrumental songs.
Unfortunately, the album era is a lot less consistent. While many of my favorite individual Vulfpeck songs come from their studio albums, none of the LPs truly achieve greatness as wholistic units. The Beautiful Game comes the closest, containing some absolute masterpieces (“Dean Town,” “Cory Wong”), but just one or two major clunkers keep it from reaching its full potential. Yule Season: River Raids Game Mode
We added in-game support for River Raids.
Joshua Vernon Maddux, disappeared May 8, 2008, Woodland Park, Colorado. Body Found August 7, 2015.
On May 8, 2008, Joshua “Josh” Maddux, 18, left his house to take a walk. He was a nature lover, so this was nothing unusual. He was never seen alive again.
Seven years later, in August 2015, less than a mile away from Josh’s home, property developer, Chuck Murphy was demolishing an old wood cabin to make way for 32 new family homes. The cabin hadn’t been used in years and the inside was damp and rotten. Work to demolish the chimney inside the cabin started and to the surprise of the demolition team, crammed inside the brickwork was a mummified body, which later was confirmed as Joshua. His body was naked apart from a thin shirt and his clothes were neatly stacked inside the cabin.
What happened to Josh? Did he climb in, was he forced in? The story of Josh Maddux continues to stir debate amongst armchair detectives.
Who was Joshua Maddux?
Joshua Maddux was born on March 9, 1990, and lived in Woodland Park, a town of 7-9 thousand people, in the Pike National Forest in Teller County, Colorado. His parents were divorced and Josh lived with his father Mike and two sisters Kate and Ruth.
He was long-haired, 6 feet tall, blond-haired and weighed 150 Lbs. He had a carefree attitude to life, loved music, spending much of his free time writing music or playing the guitar. At school, he was a bright student and was seemingly well-liked.
Two years before Josh’s disappearance, on June 1, 2006, a week before his high school graduation, his older brother, Zachary, 18, committed suicide after suffering from severe depression. Mike Maddux said, “I buried his older brother two years before and it was so difficult on Josh. When his brother died, it pushed him over the edge. It was a big shock for the family and a big shock for Josh. He thought highly of his older brother.”
Despite this, Josh had been doing well and was happy in the period around 2008.
The disappearance of Josh Maddux
On May 8, 2008, Josh left the house, telling his sister Kate that he was going out for a walk. He often went out hiking alone, so when his sister saw him at the house before he left she thought little of it. But when he failed to return later that evening, the family became worried. On May 13, 5 days after he disappeared, his father, Mike, called the police to report Josh missing.
Mike said, “I got up one morning and Josh was there, then he just never came home. The next da... keep reading on reddit ➡
I'm going to assume that most people reading this don't know what Vocaloid is. I will explain that as well as some important terms, so that we're all on the same page. Shit's gonna get kinda technical here, so I want this post to be as understandable as possible to people who are either not familiar at all, or only familiar with the music/fandom side of Vocal Synth Community Tomfuckery^(TM) and all it has to offer. This post deals with the technology side of things, so please, don't mind my miles long attempt to explain to you like you're 5 what Vocaloid is. I'm trying to make this borderline nonsensical post make sense.
So, first, you're probably wondering "what on earth is Vocaloid?"
Vocaloid is, at its core, a synthesizer software owned by Yamaha (yes, Yamaha has its hand in everything from motorcycles to singing robots with anime avatars) that is used for making synthesized vocals. It's kind of like TTS software, I guess. Here are some links to covers on YT that show off the UI for each major engine version, it should kinda make things make sense, but basically, Vocaloid is a synth that uses samples of human voices (well, except the V1 engine where it was based on analysis of said samples but shhh): Vocaloid 1 (I also found this old ass tutorial video that came with the V1 ENG vocals), Vocaloid 2, Vocaloid 3, Vocaloid 4, and Vocaloid 5 (please note that this V5 test uses a V3 voicebank and not a V5 voicebank). So that's what the UI for Vocaloid looks like. I find that showing people the actual piano roll UI tends to really help people wrap their heads around this, and this style of UI is basically universal across all voice synths used in music production, from Vocaloid, to SynthV, to UTAU (my preferred synth), to DeepVocal, to Candencii to Emvoice (the synth so disastrous that I should give it its own writeup at some point).
The software originally dropped as Vocaloid in 2004, and received major updates (named Vocaloid 2 - 5) in 2007, 2011, 2014 and 2018 respectively. For some additional context to clear up a common misconception, Hatsune Miku was not the first Vocaloid, nor was she the first Japanese Vocaloid. The order goes; Leon (ENG), Lola (ENG) (these two were releas... keep reading on reddit ➡

This is a big thing that I've only recently realised I suffer from. I'll get into a new piece of content - a book, a movie, a show, whatever - and I'll enjoy it. But as I delve deeper into it, I'll come to realise that the fanbase is absolutely horrible. Associating such shittiness with the media puts me in a mindset that is much more receptive to negative aspects of the content, and before long I will begin to actively dislike it is as my list of criticisms outpaces my list of positives.
Let's take Steven Universe. Pretty fresh idea, interesting characters, some catchy songs. An enjoyable show, overall. But whad'ya know, its community so hateful and toxic that their constant seething is probably visible from fucking orbit. Well, that's awful, you say to yourself. But all you're doing is innocently watching the show. They're weird, you enjoy it, so just ignore them, right? You block out those repulsive groups and try to enjoy the show on your own. And so, you start to watch the next episode, but... now, it's different somehow. You can't seem to forget that the people who like this show actively bullied an artist to the point of attempting suicide because she didn't make a character fat enough. And then you start noticing more things.
Hey, the animation of this show is actually, like, really, really fucking terrible, with no consistency at all.
Wow, these award-winning songs are just the same 5 plinky chords on a ukulele rehashed a million times.
Huh, don't know how I didn't notice this earlier but the voice acting is laughably bad half the time.
Wow, what a fucking awful climax. Steven sings a song to a genocidal warlord and suddenly they're innocent?
Damn, this show is actually shit, isn't it?
It's happened with so many pieces of media that I've previously enjoyed. I used to watch MHA, and enjoyed it a lot. But man, something about that show just rots the fucking brain. The fanbase, its community, is awful. So now, I don't like MHA, because all I can think about is how much of a
pathetic whining whiny little bitch Midoriya is and how terrible the pacing is for nigh all the arcs. Harry Potter? “The Ari Monovovich Iceberg: Explained” 342 views, uploaded by Alexandria_Eternal 7 hours ago.
I read the title over and over, scanning for some kind of mistake in my vision. But nope, there it was staring me in the face.
How was this even a thing? Did my friends pay for some elaborate prank at my expense? No… they’d have encouraged me to find this and my birthday is a solid 2 months away.
Surfing YouTube late at night was, as it has been for many of my generation, a nightly coping mechanism with insomnia. I find a good, inoffensive retrospective video theory, letsplay or narration and drift off to the sultry sounds of bullshit I don’t care about or gritty details of a murder. We’re strange creatures, but it works.
I’d been taken by the iceberg theory videos since the memes floated around some 6 or 7 years ago, no pun intended. Now that competent YouTube personalities were dissecting the theories behind games like Super Mario 64, The Legend Of Zelda and even lost media tapes made it all the more tantalising to seek them out.
But finding one about me? With my face accompanying the now foreboding iceberg photo on a strangers channel? Yeah, not so fun anymore.
And yet I still clicked it, because of course I did.
A cold opening, no music, and a black screen for the first few seconds.
A deep, powerful voice fills my speakers. I can’t tell if it’s been edited or if he’s simply that naturally gifted, but it makes my ear drums ring and my hairs stand up on end.
“All good people have a degree of mystery around them. Today will be no exception. Ari Monovovich has been a fascinating individual and one that I have been eager to cover on this channel since I first came across them, I have no doubt you’ll all be eager to put your thoughts in the comments below…”
The screen fades and the iceberg photo comes up in full view, I have to pause it to take in the full brevity of what I’m seeing.
For those unfamiliar; an iceberg theory video is an off-shoot of an Ernest Hemmingway writing theory that the best kind of storytelling should always be under the surface, with only the tip of the iceberg poking out. A good tale gets better the further you delve into it.
It only makes sense that the same rule applies to mysteries and theories. Every popular game, tv show and everything else has conspiracy theories, dark rumours and the like. An iceberg theory allows experts to gather the info, start from the plausible and pleasant at the top all the way down to... keep reading on reddit ➡

I took an introductory psychology course last semester, and I learned a lot about human social behavior. We even learned a bit of basic information about cults, which has been a lifelong interest for me. Particularly the kinds that seem to form around conspiracy theories. I guess it would be an oversimplification to say I wasn’t aware of any of this stuff before, though.
Over the past few years, I’ve seen acquaintances, friends, and even family fall for misinformation that could be pretty easily debunked with a quick Google search. I’m only eighteen… if I can parse fact from fiction, why is this such a thing these days?
Even with what I’ve learned in class, I’m amazed at how this continues to play out in “real life”, outside of academia and cold, clinical laboratory environments. Time and time again, I’m stunned by how many rational, seemingly “normal” people accept blatant lies as fact.
Not only do they accept it, but they spread it.
Eventually, I started to ask myself… how does this happen? Is it that people are just… so bored with their own lives that they are compelled to seek entertaining explanations for what is so clearly laid out in front of them?
Then I asked myself, how far could it go?
What kinds of things will people believe with little to no actual proof?
The explanations in my textbooks were not enough for me. I wanted to find out.
Almost half a year ago, I started a social experiment. I joined a lesser-known discussion forum—I’m not going to name it here, because I don’t want anyone going over there after what happened—and pulled up the page to submit a post.
I put my fingers to the keys, eager to start my experiment. I ran into my first problem right there, in that first moment. I stared at the blank text box, zeroing in on the cursor as it blinked almost mockingly. It sounds stupid, but I wasn’t creative enough to come up with an idea to base my conspiracy theory on.
There were a few things I did know then, though. A few very important things, I think. I knew that people like a common villain to take a stand against. In a world full of grey area, people like black and white problems, a clear-cut “evil”.
In addition, I knew that people like to be in on a secret, to feel like they’re somehow aware of a problem that is hidden in plain sight. And people like problems that they don’t really have to do anything about, a problem that they don’t need to solve with anything other than “raising awareness”.
I’ll admit it—it to... keep reading on reddit ➡
Why I am childfree.... Because children are not gifts from god. Because I love my free time and financial stability and the way I am able to love my animals. I love the way my body is aging on its own without children. I know I would never put my child first, because I love the people already in my life way more than words can Express, a child would only get in the way. I am not a patient person, I do not want to teach abcs and one two threes because it would get frustrating. I would resent not only my child for the rest of their lives but myself for not being able to take trips that I've always wanted because I got stuck getting pregnant. Emotionally it would get exhausting not only dealing with them on the daily but exhausting that I have to pretend parenthood is the best thing that ever happened to me and I love being a mom. Everything about being a parent and having children sounds horrible to me. The list goes on and on....Call me selfish but it is my life and I have have no intention of living it for anyone else because it is my god given right. I'm not ashamed to say it and neither should you be.
I run a private campground. It’s a bit early - okay, a lot early - but you should consider making a reservation for the public camping weekends in the spring. In fact, make a reservation and pay early. I really need a new four-wheeler. And I’m sure the supernatural war happening on my land will be wrapped up by then.
It’s been an eventful week, and that’s saying something around here. No one is dead, at least, though it came close.
I was woken in the night by a phone call to the camp’s emergency line. Considering we don’t have campers right now, this was surprising. Bleary and rather confused, I answered.
It was Bryan’s mother.
He hadn’t come home, she said. She’d been waiting for him but it was almost midnight now and he wasn’t answering his phone either. Could I check, she asked, and see if he was on the campground?
“I didn’t see his car when I locked the gate this evening,” I said.
“Just check for me.”
Her demand was polite, but urgent. I sighed and said I would. I’d call her back, I promised, as soon as I got done checking the parking lot. Then I got out of bed and hastily dressed, grabbing my heaviest jacket. I could at least take the car to check the staff parking lot, but I was not pleased to be going out in this cold in any form.
Bryan is one of the few staff members that has a key to the gate. It was certainly possible for him to come by the campground at odd hours - and he’s done it before - but I was desperately hoping that his mother was wrong. The only reasons I could think of for him to return after dark were deeply foolish ones. Like giving his dogs clandestine bellyrubs.
I mean, they are very good doggos, but they also have a job to do right now. I suspect their presence is what’s keeping the fomorian away from a fairy that isn’t ready to fight it yet.
Bryan’s car was parked behind the barn. Tucked in the last spot by the dumpster, where it wouldn’t be easily visible from the road. I cursed under my breath and put my car in park and focused. I needed Beau. He was my only contact to the inhuman world and I wanted their help t... keep reading on reddit ➡
EDIT (I meant no one in "r.animemusic" could help. I accidentally said "r.anime" in the title)
I run a private campground. I’ve been telling you about it for a while now. About the things that live here, about my own family history, and a little bit about the locals and my employees. I try to keep those details scarce, however, for while I am comfortable sharing most of my life with all of you, I feel I should respect the privacy of others. And while I’m sure you would love to know more about the old sheriff or Bryan or any of the others, I appreciate that you also respect their privacy and don’t pry. Besides, there’s usually other interesting things to hear about.
Well… I can finally tell you about Bryan and his dogs. I think it’s okay now. I don’t think he’ll mind.
It's a sad story and it starts and ends with animal cruelty. Not just an animal dying. Cruelty. I wanted to warn you.
Bryan has always been quiet, to my memory. We’re close in age and were only a grade apart in school. I don’t recall seeing him much, nor hearing about him, until he got his dogs. They began following him to school when they were in that awkward stage between puppy and adult, their paws still slightly too large for their bodies. They’d wait at the edge of the schoolyard for him to visit them during recess and then after school let out, they’d surround him and they’d all walk home together.
It didn’t take long for adults to notice. Our principal got on the announcements one day and warned everyone to stay away from the dogs. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but I wonder what it was like for Bryan, sitting in his classroom with the principal over the PA telling all of his classmates to stay away from his dogs. He must have felt the weight of all those eyes on him. No wonder he never talked much.
I remember the principal coming by to confer with my parents. We were told to stay in our rooms and do our homework. I, of course, climbed out through my window and snuck around the side of the house to listen in, hiding against the wall under the kitchen window. The dogs, the principal was saying, were clearly unnatural. He sounded offended at the very thought.
“So what if th... keep reading on reddit ➡
I run a private campground. One of the things I have to think about is fire management. Obviously, there’s a lot of wood around here. And obviously, if the campground goes up in flames, I lose my livelihood. I do some land management to protect against that by clearing out dry underbrush periodically and put in rules about fire pits and my staff make routine inspections to make sure they’re followed. Many of you have suggested using fire as a weapon against the inhuman things and each time I point out that this is a forest and while we don’t have a lot of dry wood, the odds of the entire thing going up are not zero.
In my defense, it wasn’t technically in the campground. Only very technically.
Beau’s assistance had cleared the thorns from my body. I spent a miserable few days coughing up plant matter. At least it’s winter so we don’t have much work to do and I could sit in my house and play video games as a distraction. I’m super obsessed with Octopath Traveler right now.
There were still the thorns planted throughout the campground to deal with, however. I wasn’t terribly worried. We had the stone, the one that contained the thorn’s death, and all I had to do was summon Beau and figure out what the next step was.
Of course, when I summoned him, he didn’t show. I had even made hot chocolate with a bit of Bailey’s. So I drank it all myself and then fueled by booze and a sugar high, I went tromping through the snow to find him.
The thought of him being in danger or otherwise unable to respond was only a vague worry. He’s been elusive ever since I refused to go to the harvesters. It’s hard to tell if he’s angry at me or just being moody. It certainly isn’t because I’m good enough with a knife that I don’t need his help anymore. I intended to ask him what the problem was, once I found him. I decided to walk along the road through the deep woods, as that was both the safest place and where he tended to be found.
It took a few days of hiking around the campsite, but I eventually fo... keep reading on reddit ➡
