How do I tell my friend their house is hygienically catastrophic?

Here’s some context. I (43F) live abroad with my husband and two kids. My best friend from high school (43F) stayed in our home country. She has two kids as well, they are just entering their teens. I finally managed to visit my home country after a looong covid-induced isolation and so she invited us over to visit her house. I came with my family, including two small children under three. We haven’t seen each other for 4 years, only spoke over the phone or messages.

The second I entered the house, I couldn’t breathe. The stench was overwhelming, a different one in every room. I don’t even want to describe it because I want to forget it so badly. I almost threw up in kids’ room. And it was not only about the smell. Everything is broken in there. The oven has no door. The sinks are leaking. The terrace’s railing is about to collapse. Also, she has a dog and three cats. All of them go potty as they please around the house. It is difficult not to step into anything. We cut the visit short out of fear that our kids would get sick or hurt.

Now, my friend is recently divorced and out of an abusive relationship. Her mother lives in the same house but in a separate part and refuses to do anything; she just sits on the couch all day and my friend needs to take care of her while maintaining a full time job and taking care of the kids and the pets. My friend also suffered from depression for almost two years but, as she says, no longer requires medication but is still in therapy. She’s been dating someone for a year. She’s finally finding her happiness again. She’s excelling at work and making a decent living from it. She’s smart, well read, and has a great sense of humor.

We tried to hint to her that the house needs deep cleaning work. We suggested she gets the kids to do some basic chores, like caring after the pets, but she dismissed us by saying that she wants to give them a happy and carefree childhood, unlike her own. I cleaned her kitchen and my husband cleaned her terrace (one of the toilets for the dog, from the look of it, for a good few months without being cleaned). Another friend who came for dinner vacuumed the living room. I don’t think she took the hint. I also talked to her. I said we love her and care for her, that’s why we’re suggesting solutions involving her children and doing chores during our visit. She said thank you and smiled, but didn’t acknowledge the house needed extra work.

I get it, it’s a big house, around 3000 sq ft (300 sq m) and

Do any of you guys have trouble taking care of yourselves hygienically?

I have trouble with it.

It all started when I was 18. My brother wouldn't clean the tub after he showered and his hair would get stuck and it'd clog the drain. I'd always have to do it, and it made the tub smell.

So one day, I got tired of it, and started only washing my hair with the bath faucet.

Thus began me not showering, and at this point, I've gone weeks without showering. Back when I was depressed 4 years ago, I'm pretty sure I went over a month without showering. I remember taking off my clothes and I smelled like the homeless people that I'd smell on the streets in SF. Anyway, I haven't showered since last week, and I just don't care. I have snot on my sleeve because I hawked up a loogy and didn't want to get up to spit it out. And I don't care! My room is filled with garbage and rotting food and I literally don't care! Is it gross, logically, yes. But that doesn't change the fact that I'm apathetic to filth. Even though, I do want a clean room so that way I don't lose everything on the planet! I see a flair that says "accountability", just wondering, am I not holding myself accountable for something? I also have Autism, so if that's a dumb question with an obvious answer, again, I'm sorry. Obvious things usually go over my head.

Sorry, this post was supposed to be about keeping up with hygiene, and it turned into a rant lol

Haven’t seen these posts in a while but anyways here I go… 🚨🚨DAILY REMINDER TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF HYGIENICALLY, MENTALLY AND MAYBE EVEN PHYSICALLY!!! 🚨🚨

Just take a minute to have a think to yourself… Have I brushed my teeth today? Did I put on deodorant before leaving? Maybe I Should set a reminder incase I forgot that one thing I always forget? Have I done all my chores today? Am I looking after myself today?

Now all these are very important so I want you to make a priority list of the things you have to do today and slowly go through it and make sure you remember everything!

Also if you do decide to make a list of priorities in order then I want you to try put taking care of yourself as number 1 and I don’t mean taking care of yourself by getting stuff done I mean by being kind to yourself, relaxing and just having some you-time.

One more thing I wanted to say is that if you can’t brush twice then once will be okay βœ…, if you have a bad day then try to spend more time looking after yourself πŸ™‚. We all have slip-ups especially having deal with ADHD makes it harder but what matter is we don’t let the ADHD/worries take control of your life and that you are able to recognise that you have some awesome qualities and if you don’t then maybe when your spending some relaxation time you could pick up a new special quality that makes you feel special.

Alex and Matt Kaplan come off as cringe and hygienically dirty to me.

The situation where Matt fucked Alex ass to vagina with Alex's shit on his dick leading to Alex getting a UTI and Kidney Infection. The way Alex made a cluttered mess in a room at Matt's house and Alex or Matt didn't clean it.

Alex leaving a moldy cup sitting around her room. These things are cringe and gross to me. I literally would not go to the house of or ride in the car of one of these people out of fear of catching some type of infection. And I wouldn't want them in my house or car. These are the types of people who have lice.

I'm thinking of a bio-punk setting where GMO lifeforms are used like worker robots on spacecraft & space stations. I'm trying to figure out how these lifeforms' bodily waste will be hygienically collected and dealt with at 0G. I have no idea how that would work. Help.

Edit: alright, from what I've read ITT, I think I'll just go with the "elegant but simple" solution of just accepting that 0G toilets will always be dreadful things and making the GMO creatures deliberately constipated so that they only need to visit the Godforsaken machine once a week

Don’t know if this is the right place, but dog had flaky skin after her bath despite using the same shampoo. Have contacted vet but: Am I not grooming correctly? Is there anything I can do better hygienically?

Hi everyone!

TL;DR: dog started itching a few days after her second dose of nexgard, but was due for a bath. For dirty at dog park, was groomed afterwards but wasn’t bathed until 3 days after. See bathing routine. Woke up with super flaky and itchy skin I’ve remedied with coconut oil as needed and an oatmeal bath that same day. Environmental change and outside more often, but (aside from eye leakage she’s had since I got her) shows no signs of allergies. Itching has gotten more noticeable again but with no flaking. Vet has been contacted, but is something in her grooming routine wrong? Could I be doing something better?

I have a 5 month old female mini Aussie

She started scratching herself more than usual a few days after her nexgard, but by then she was due for a bath anyways so I assumed it was bc of that. we went to the dog park so she wouldn’t go right after her bath, and she got quite gross; I was only able to wipe her down with cleansing wipes (work) and brushed the dirt out of her coat afterwards, then wiped her down and brushed her every day until she got her bath. It wasn’t ideal, but i assumed she would be fine for 3 days. No flaking or marks from itching.

She gets brushed at least 3 times a week and wiped down once or twice a week between baths usually. I was late on her bath this time, tho, I will 100% admit.

For her bath:

-I used Burts Bees Puppy Shampoo the oatmeal formula. We’ve used it before and she was fine. -Warm/tepid water, but steam was rising off of her body. I kept turning it colder but she was still giving off steam. -It lasted about 15-20 minutes with a lot of it being me plying her with treats, is that too long? -I then towel dried her, but I rubbed her dry. I thought I was being gentle and then wrapped her up in a fresh towel after wards, but she was itchy once she dried. -I tried to spray her puppy conditioning spray on her but she hates the β€œwet” aspect of it. I usually don’t get the chance to rub it in but instead just brush it in or spray on her brush and then brush her.

She was scratching so hard it woke me up twice and when I examined her in the morning, she had flaky skin that was extremely noticeable. She had even scratched herself to the point of irritation and minor bleeding on one leg. I massaged coconut oil on her and her leg for as long as she’d allow me to (she hated that too) and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Then I gave her an oatmeal bath with more cool than tepid water as I was afraid it

Best way to share headset hygienically with family?

I want to share my Oculus Quest headset with my family, they're pretty keen on using it to exercise and stuff, but would like their own facial interfaces.

What's the best way to do this? I've been looking around online and I can't find a lot of actual new interfaces so we can just pop one out and put a new one in. I've seen more like, covers to go over the existing interface.

What would be the best, easiest and most hygienic solution for 4 people to share the one headset for sweaty exercise?
