I'm not sure if it's just my area, but both of the Books-A-Million near me had Sanderson hardcovers on closeout for $4.97 each. Ended up getting WoR, Shadows of Self, The Bands of Mourning, Legion, Edgedancer and Hero of Ages for about $30. Hell of a deal.

The other other day I went to Barnes & Noble and bought a paperback for myself and a hc for my wife that she wanted. A very elegant hc with a nice sleeve. Seeing that made me want the hc for a fantasy book I've been wanting, Rage of Dragons. What a disappointment. The sleeve is fine but the actual hc is just bland. Nothing on it. No design, no imprinted words or art. Just a gray surface with the title written on the spine. In another trip to the same store decided to go around just looking at the art on hc's specifically the fantasy section and mostly, if not all, were the same. Blank covers with no inspiration. Ironically the pb of RoD is much nicer than the hc. I remember visiting book stores when I was younger and actually being left in awe at some of the art from the hc versions of books. I'd go around removing the sleeve briefly just to peek at hc art and most of it was simple yet quite beautiful. Am I just being the typical "back in my day" old guy? I'm only 34 years old so not that old. Is it me or did something happen?

I have a lot of LotFP and some OSE and couple others. What are some great system-neutral hardcover books? I try to only buy hardcovers because I like them and leave everything else to pdf.

My copy’s spine was ruined and I’m trying to figure out how to mend it. I found another copy for sale with the same damage. Did any of you experience the same problem?
Obviously there can be exceptions for expensive books or paper covers that have important text/pictures. But generally hardcover books look way nicer without the cover just being a plain book with its name and author on the spine. There’s definitely something more satisfying to the texture as well when handling it. Even if you spill something on the book or get the book dirty, I find most hard cover books end up looking nice as they age and just look cool. Honestly just own up and throw out the paper coverings on your hardcover books.

So I saw the BAA Deluxe books a couple years ago and started to read them as they released and then bought all the Mars chronicles books that were currently available last year only to find out 2 volumes in its not only a prequel but a sequel and so I put them down and haven't touched them since.
After realising that I did a bit of digging and saw that the Omnibus editions of last order contained extra short stories not in the normal volumes but I don't want to get them in their current paperback form because of the size and overall feel of the books (I saw a couple in person at a convention, the quality isn't great). I did a bit more investigating to see if there was anything else coming and saw that kodansha were thinking about a re-release of last order due to the popularity of the original series deluxe books but all that was from over a year ago and it appears the trail has gone cold. Does anyone know if these are still coming?
Just went down a rabbit hole and couldn't find anything definitive. Hey guys and gals. I have as the title states Thor God of Thunder hardcovers Vol 1 and 2. Both have been read once and stored upright on my shelf. No outside damage or issues. Please refer to the pictures. The only manufacturing "issue" is on the two inside covers there is what I would describes a glue mark? They came like that. Does not affect the pages at all. I'm assuming its from the glued binding. Other than that the books are in awesome shape and I know they are a little hard to find right now. Asking $100 for the set shipped. If anyone needs more pictures let me know. Thanks.

When I saw this I saw the price went up to $50 which is fine seeing the kickstarters deserved the discount for backing up this amazing project! Also I saw that the hardcover book wouldn’t include the Kickstarter bonuses what I get, they are only for the backers but what I didn’t understand is with the Kickstarter if u would buy the hardcover you would get the pdf for free with it which isn’t here. It’s a shame because I would like to read through the book too when iam like on vacation without the book. I also saw that ledger+ wasn’t anywhere on the website, I mean I’d understand it if it was just Kickstarter bonus but this is a whole website what I would wanna watch and would happily pay extra for! Hey, all. I am new to reddit (what took me so long?) and a book collector. My collection has eventually found its focus: Science Fiction Paperback Originals. I am just fascinated by the fact that many of my favorite Sci-Fi books saw their initial release as mass-market paperbacks, and yet the later hardcover releases with dust jackets command such a significantly higher price in the collectors' market. I really love the challenge of trying to find these paperback gems in as pristine condition as possible. I find it odd that most book collectors seem to shun these paperbacks since they were mass produced and poorly bound with cheap materials. Doesn't that make fine unread examples all the more rare?
Anyway, my collection now includes Fahrenheit 451, Childhood's End, The Sirens of Titan, The Left Hand of Darkness, Star Wars (preceded the film's release by 6 months!) The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy (and the next two in the series) and Neuromancer. In addition, I tracked down the entire serialization of Frank Herbert's Dune in Analog magazine.
I was able to buy these for peanuts compared to their hardcover equivalents which are literally worth thousands each, despite being released later. So, my question is... why? Does anyone else out there collect paperbacks like this? Any other recommendations? Thanks!
