In the United States, individual state laws barring 18- to 20-year-olds from buying or possessing a handgun make little difference in the rate of homicides involving a gun by people in that age group, a new University of Washington study has found. washington.edu/news/2020/…

Every gun-owner in the United States is now required by law to pay a $200 tax stamp on every firearm they own. Including every magazine that has a capacity of more than 10 rounds.

Unfortunately many own over 100 high capacity magazines. Now, they cannot afford to pay $20,000.

There are two possible outcomes.

One: supreme court strikes it down.

Two: massive civil disobedience.

What happens?

Gun Control - Thoughts, Laws and Compromises

Ok, so in light of a couple of things and getting shit-faced drunk last night and talking to several people elsewhere. I decided to do a little experiment, collect my thoughts on gun control and otherwise and posit a few things. For reference, I am not in favor of buybacks or much gun control at all; however, I am in agreement that certain actions could and likely should be taken in order to ensure the safety and health of the American Public.

So in the vein of the subreddit, I'd like to open up on the discussion and work through some of these ideas with everyone and I'll start by saying this.

This is a discussion. I personally feel that everyone's takes and feelings are all equally valid because everyone's got different experiences on that matter. Different reasons and ideals are natural for something like this, but I digress and will put forward my ideas now.

  1. A slight preamble but part of our confusion with 2A comes from the fact that there are several versions of it that legal scholars can debate upon and that were ratified by different states. While the wording is the same, punctuation and capitalization is all different.

The final, handwritten original of the Bill of Rights as passed by Congress, with the rest of the original prepared by scribe William Lambert, is preserved in the National Archives.[33] This is the version ratified by Delaware[34] and used by the Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller:

>A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.[35]

Some state-ratified versions omitted the first or final commas, such as Maryland's:[34][36][[25]](https://en.wikipedia.org

The United States is following a pattern of collapse that leads to civil war

I hope to spread awareness of this across Reddit. This will be a long post. It is just within the character limit. So please take a seat.

TL;DR: America today is not Germany in the 1920s, nor beginning to turn into Nazi Germany. There is a much more recent conflict that the United States is copying. America is hurtling toward a civil war in the same way Yugoslavia did. The combination of economic disparity, civil injustice, gutted or absent social systems, outdated infrastructure, and indifference from the government leads to open conflict. Regardless of your party, politicians are not going to stop it and they’re not going to save you.

I have put archive links to every source included at the very bottom.

America is not Germany

The United States of America today has too many parallels with the Weimar Republic of Germany in the early twentieth century. In the late 1910s there were a lot of people that held fears about Marxism in western Europe. Fascists in particular were terribly paranoid about it. These people who were proto-Nazis had an unreasonable paranoia about everything from the left. A term began to circulate called “Judeo-Bolshevism”. The was a word for the conspiracy theory that communism was being spread around the world by Jewish people. It named the Jew a virus that introduced communism into the healthy blood of society. It was part of a covert plan to destroy Christianity and Western civilization through communism. That may sound familiar to some of the things QAnon says today.

Anyway, as the Nazi movement picked up steam, Nazi writers and media critics took on German culture. The Weimar Republic was quite the progressive state at the time. It had rights for LGBT people, some of the first recognition of non-binary people, and an abundance of art. A sizable portion of this art was queer in orientation and/or pornographic. The Nazi critics declared this was degenerate and an avenue of communism. To them, it was part of a plot to weaken German culture and allow a left-wing takeover. By the 1920s the term “cultural bolshevism” overtook “Judeo-Bolshevism”. The left were apparently trying to “bolshevize” the nation by taking over kids’ minds with their books and art. Sound familiar to today? The term on the internet now is “cultural marxism”. Fighting it is the basis of those Prager U videos that are so popular around Facebook.

The Nazis convinced enough people that cultural bolshevism was a threat, and then inched out a win

Synopsis for 02-22 to 02-26

Happy Sunday everyone,

I am Rensole, and I spilled coffee all over my crotch

So I've been asked a few times now to do a weekly round up so we can try and keep this a little better documented and you don't have to go over 5 different threads to get an idea of what has happened.

I'd also like to thank anyone and everyone who has helped make these possible.

I'd also like to thank everyone for messaging me, but I'm receiving 100s of DM's a day so if I miss anyone I'm sorry. also in the weekends I'm not on Reddit a lot as I'm currently self employed and have to juggle doing these DD posts with work ( and 15 hour workdays can get exhausting).

with these weekly's I'm also trying to slim it down a bit, making it easier to look back at the important things. it can also be that some of the info (% and numbers) can be outdated, but I'm sure the awesome members in this sub will point that out, so please give me some leniency when it comes to this.

Also this will have less pictures in it because there is a max of 20 images per post.

Also at the end are some new thoughts, please read through to the end.

Now onto the week.

The hearing Redux.

In the hearing we heard a lot, mostly how thankful Vlad can be, but also that Citadel and Melvin closed their positions on GME. In the days after the hearing it became evident due to the more astute retards on these boards that this was complete bullshit. I've been getting a lot DM's about this so let me address it here. See GME as apples, they bought apples, so normally in their books they should have apples written in right? But now they made fruit baskets, even though they just have the apples. But now instead of apples the books show fruit baskets. This is called creative bookkeeping or "cooking the books"

Even though they still are short GME it just shows up differently, but at the end of the day nothing has changed. well except public perception perhaps.

📷Robbing the Hood

So remember how Vlad said he was "forced" to close trading by the DTCC?

Seems like Vladdy has been a naughty boy, he said that he was "Forced" to do so because he couldn't make the capital requirements. But a lot of people started questioning this from the get go, as we all thought there was more at hand, or at least more in the line of Collusion between the Hf's and Robinhood.

How to challenge the Qanon Human Trafficking narrative.

TW: Child abuse, child sex abuse, child sex exploitation, systemic failures

Hi, I'm mostly a lurker and no one special, I created this throwaway to share a bit of my story. I'm a male survivor of child sexual exploitation and child sexual abuse. Let me start by saying that I have never supported QAnon conspiracies. I only hope what I share here can help deprogram your loved ones.

QAnon does not represent the voices of human trafficking survivors. So, when you're loved ones are going down this rabbit hole, ask them who's narrative is Q's? Ask them why isn't Q uplifting survivors and allowing them to lead the cause?

Any valid movement should always allow the victims to speak and lead. Q's role should have been a supportive one from the back and at no time has Q ever done this.

Also ask your loved ones when is the last time they talked to a human trafficked survivor and asked the survivors what they needed and what needs to be done in order to stop this heart breaking life shattering crisis. If they say they haven't, then ask them how come. And if they say they don't know any survivors, then ask them where they might look to find some in order to ask (Polaris Project is a good start, if you want to suggest a place for them). Then ask them if Q knows any survivors of human trafficking and if so, where did Q come across these survivors? If not, point out that Q is fighting against a cause without the most powerful tool at Q's disposal.

Best bet is to say something along the lines as to, "I noticed you have a passion to want to help protect and prevent child sex trafficking, and I believe this is a very noble cause. I would like to support you in achieving these goals, so I started looking into it. And I don't feel Q is doing enough to help fight against human trafficking, some of my concerns is the lack of survivor voices in the movement..."

From there, lean into the questions I suggested above, because the people who know the most about stopping human trafficking are sadly the ones that had to experience it themselves.

What Q has been doing is hurting actual survivors and hampering the fight against human trafficking.

Human traffickers come from all walks of life, of all races and gender, and of all political parties.

The people who exploited me were die hard gun owning church going republicans. It started in 2nd grade and went until I was emancipated and left home. I knew my exploiter. My exploiter had a stressful military career where

Not Us: Their dark passions

Note: I don’t do sequels. But many asked for a follow on to this story ; so here it is

The ship sits silently. No lights adorn its obsidian outside, no radiation emits anything bar passive systems. From Earth it would be almost impossible to detect. Almost.

But since the ship and its crew announced themselves to the human race two years previously, thousands of telescopes gaze upon the craft as it spins just beyond the orbit of their moon.

All of humanity knows where to find it and so they watch with wide, eager eyes. And aboard the vast ship, the three explorers watch the world below them. As they did for 70 human years, familiarising themselves with the planet's many languages and cultures. They had become authorities on this species long before they said hello.

Jia sits supine in her observation seat; this one she rigged up herself. It was here that the visual images the humans sent out were coalesced and gathered, allowing her to see what they, what was the word, broadcast out to the stars.

Absentmindedly she wonders, as she always does, if they knew? How much they tell the universe? They transmit electromagnetic signals of every aspect of their lives; not just grand events but the tiny details. Did they even consider that everytime one of them appeared on this medium, they were guaranteed immortality? Their images, their voices, would broadcast outwards at the speed of light and would travel beyond. Forever. Long after their planet had died, they would continue. One moment of them, forever trapped in time, forever travelling.

Jia is both awed at this and amused. And occasionally saddened. She had become far more expert than the two male crew at detecting the subtle nuances of the human civilisation. And had recently become aware of a growing “conservative” streak within the species below. Today she was confirming something she had suspected for some time.

They had of late begun to like to ‘shame’ others. Usually for being caught doing in public what most seemed to do in private. Terms like ‘extra marital affairs’ and ‘crime’ and ‘abuse’ and ‘mistake’ were used before each segment; words like ‘corruption’ and ‘guilty’ were branded about as salaciously as words like ‘alleged’ and ‘suspected’. She had learned that these words in many languages represented differing concepts, but that the h

Harry Potter and terrible worldbuilding 4: Tiny World.

Hola amigos, yeah i know it's been ages since the last one, real life has been a bitch lately, but better late than never right? For those unaware, this is a series of rants regarding Harry Potter i'm writing, which i was inspired to write after recently having to re-read the books.

Harry Potter and terrible worldbuilding: Felix Felicis.

Harry Potter and terrible worldbuilding 2: Religion and Culture.

Harry Potter and terrible worldbuilding 3: Magic.

As per my last post, I feel I need to clarify the purpose of this series:

The potential existence of answers is not the same as World Building. Hundreds of elements can be missing from a story, which we (the readers) can come up with various answers and justifications for, but if those elements haven't been built by the author, then it isn't world building.

The purpose of my series is not to point out plot holes. It's to point out that the world wasn't built intricately or consistently enough. This is a very important distinction, as i'm not claiming any of these aspects are "plot holes", i'm stating that they weren't integrated into the world well.

Giant School in a Tiny World

A lot of people have mentioned lately that JK Rowling did a fantastic job at crafting an immersive and believable school environment in the form of Hogwarts, and that her worldbuilding truly began to suffer when she tried expanding out of Hogwarts into the outer world... This is absolutely correct, but JK Rowlings crafting of the school isn't that good either tbh, considering there's so many aspects surrounding Hogwarts in the narrative which just make no god damn sense.

I'm going to begin this rant by saying something which might be controversial: Making Hogwarts the central focus of this world is fucking stupid.

Now a lot of you might face palm at reading that statement, since Hogwarts was the central focus of the story... However there's a huge distinction between a plot element being central to the STORY compared to being central to the WORLD. In a lot of stories, the world is built in a way where important plot elements, whether they be locations, objects, or people, that are extremely

Their sentences were commuted by Jimmy Carter. In 1967, the Black Panthers stormed the California capitol building with shotguns, rifles and handguns, leading Ronald Reagan to pass some of California's first gun control laws.

Anyone talking about "unprecedented terrorist acts" or "the last time this happened, it was the British in 1814" is just doing more "norms and guardrails" moralizing. Can you imagine if these Trump supporters shot representatives? Do you think anyone would be commuting their sentences after 20 years, when politicians are agitating for sedition/capital punishment-eligible charges for these people?

The capitol has been the site of multiple bombings, shootings, assassination attempts, and stormings for centuries. Pretending its an unbespoiled sacred Church which has never been penetrated so vulgarly is just ahistorical.

Rainbow Six Siege Collab Event: Originium Dust Event Story Summary (Part 2 of 2)

Part 2 is here, enjoy~

OD-5: Material Recovery Plan

Tachanka tries training with Ranger’s bow, but realises it takes an insane amount of strength to pull the bowstring back, and is surprised when Rangers mentions that bow is commonly used among the Sarkaz, remarking that the bow is just as effective as a gun from 100m. Tachanka also makes a note about how Liskarm is as physically strong as himself, which Rangers explains is due to her Vouivre lineage. Ash asks Tachanka about his sudden interest in Terran weapons, to which Tachanka explains that they need weapons after running out of ammo, since it’s clear the Rainbow squad would lose in close quarter combat to the mercenaries. Ash brings Tachanka over to look at the Originium bullets. Rangers explains that each individual bullet has a miniature spellcasting unit in it, making both Terran guns and each individual bullet the equivalent of a Caster’s staff. Tachanka tries asking for a gun that doesn’t require Arts, but Rangers has never heard of such a thing.

Ash heads to the basement where Liskarm and Franka are examining the broken communicator. Franka drags Ash and Blitz away from Liskarm to allow Liskarm to use her Arts to try to repair the device. Blitz and Ash are captivated by her Arts, but Liskarm is unable to repair the communicator device, thinking it may be actually damaged and needs repairs using special tools that they don’t have. Tachanka, interested, asks if ordinary people can use Arts. Franka explains that most people can use Arts, but it’s closely linked to personal talent, and requires time and concentration to use, which is why some people can spend way more time than others practicing but still fail. Liskarm gives Blitz a shield that replicates his original shield’s abilities, but when Blitz says he can’t use Arts, Franka explains that the “Universal Originium Circuit” in the flash device is able to store spells in it to allow non-Arts users to operate it. Afterwards, Ash and Rangers discuss a plan to return to the infected community to scavenge for food from the newly abandoned houses.

Let's clear some relevant plot points from the books

So, a little mix of connected questions about the protomolecule, the gates and the roman ships from the books:

  1. The protomolecule bullet: what we know from the books is that the Romans sent the protomolecule bullets to planets that are within the goldilocks zone and showing signs of young primitive life in order to have materials to support the protomolecule's changing process and lastly to open a gate to said planet, but the bullet aimed at Earth got caught in Saturn's gravity aproximately 2 billions years ago.

Question is, we saw the activated protomolecule move Eros effortlessly at high speeds and no inertia, sure it needed countless human body to be able to do this, but why send a rock with some dormant protomolecule through the vastness of space on an difficult path and very long travel time, and unseen perils, when you could also send a rock with some living tissue and activated protomolecule with it's laws of physics defying skills and much higher success rate? The romans had some kind of system, as seen on the ring station, so it would not be a big challenge to "program" these bullets.

I can't believe Earth's bullet was the first to be deviated from it's path, so it does not make sense to be that lazy with such a limited resource (planets within the goldilock zone with primordial life).

When know from Cibola Burn, that the roman planets from the ring system were kept "clean" from any other organism during their reign, so would have been able to simply aquire or synthetize organic materials needed for the bullet's journey, so why not do this?

The whole roman kingdom seems logical, yet the base of it is left to chances.

  1. Gate size: so the gate's are described as huge, 1000km in diameter, and with human ships looking like tiny ants. As if they were designed to move much larger objects/ships. Yet they have a design flaw, that if enough mass/energy crosses them, then it goes dutchman and into the goth's realm.

That seems to me like a design flaw, that should not be there. The gate's size was clearly meant to be used by the romans, I think when they did their system wide planet engineering things they made use of the gate's size to move tiny planets/asteroids/raw materials/anything, yet presumabely they did not encounter the goth's before completing 1.373 rings, because if so, then there would be no 1.373 rings, since the romans got enough time to do work on every planet with a ring.

This seems highly unlikely, also, connecting t

Sexy Space Babes: Chapter Twenty One

AN: I'm back from my seven day ban (Which was entirely justified).

To those that don't know, after I posted the story up on Amazon, I was informed that Kindle Unlimited requires that the story be posted nowhere else. I had assumed that applied only to selling via other publishers, not the free novel.

That was not the case. Hence my rapidly pulling down the story from everywhere in a panic, lest I get my amazon account banned, and my dream of authorhood killed in the cradle.

That was not why I recieved a ban from HFY for seven days. I recieved the ban, because as I pulled the story, I left the Amazon link up. That was a violation of rule seven of the subreddit, which says that any link must be accompanied by 350 words of OC content. A rule I broke nineteen times in ten minutes.

Either way, that is behind us now, and I've put my time to good use setting up a patreon and building up a backlog of chapters.

So without further ado, here's book two, which will be posted up until such time that the book is published, at which point it will be pulled like book one to conform with Amazon, and we will start again with book three.

I'm also sitting at number ten on Space Fleet Sci-Fi right now on the top one hundred list, so I just wanted to thank everyone that bought a copy or left a review.

You guys rock!

“Alright ladies, shut up and sit down,” Tisi called over the hubbub of conversation.

To be honest, it was kind of ridiculous that she needed to ask at all, given that she was the captain, and thus the crew should have been jumping up to salute her with obedient silence the moment she entered the ship’s small cafeteria/lounge area. Unfortunately for her, captaining a tiny picket ship like the Whisker didn’t carry that kind of prestige.

More to the point, it was difficult to maintain any kind of professional distance when you were in tight confines with the same group of seven people for weeks at a time.

Fortunately, the group of layabouts she was saddled with were still obedient enough. While they weren’t quite as prompt as she might have liked, the conversation did fall away, allowing her to speak.

“Glider, Rocket, you hearing me up there?” She asked.

“Loud and clear, captain.” The ship’s intercom squawked overhead.

“Good,” she nodded.

Between those two on the bridge and the five before her, the entire crew was present.

[WASHINGTON DAILY ACTION] Open carry at protests ban has PASSED the senate, heavily amended, details and further actions:

Sorry for the bad news, it passed the senate. Party line vote. The bill was heavily amended by Sen. Van De Wege (D-24th dist). The bill now completely exempts open carry on private property, requires protests to have state or local approval to count and requires protests to have 15 or more persons attending to count. So basically its now only illegal to open carry a weapon knowingly at a protest that was approved by a state body with more than 15 people. This is my reading of the amendment and I'd love to have /u/0x00000042's view too. I will update this summary.

I know this sucks but I want you all to understand how much drastically worse the original bill was. Anyone carrying a weapon within 1000 feet of anyone "protesting" with an extremely vague definition wouldn't been a criminal period. These amendments only happened because of your pressure. And we can still keep this bill from getting on the senate floor. SO COMMENT, CALL AND EMAIL AGAIN TODAY! Focus on the MAG BAN and other open carry ban too!

Today's objective: send an email that covers ALL THREE bills, comment on ALL THREE bills, then CALL YOUR DISTRICT'S REPS!

Ban on ownership of firearm magazines over 17 rounds: SB 5078 Don't forget to comment on the bill page with this link! You need to submit a NEW comment noting your opposition to the amended bill!

  • Even with the weak grandfather clause, it is completely illegal to use these magazines defensively or for concealed carry, effectively criminalizing any practical use and making the already liability-ridden grandfather clause largely irrelevant. According to the language of the bill, you would be breaking the law by having grandfathered mags in your car that are loaded or not locked in a separate container on the way to the range. The lawful activity of most gun owners in the state will be criminalized. **The law and justice committee is now stating that owners photograph there magazines. Given the tiny portion of Washington gun owners that follow the legal process closely this is meaningless, very few will see this provision and comply. The Terran, if that's what an android was, straightened up from fixing Palgret's cradle and restraints and started to turn away. The door thumped dully as it locked into place. Red light came on and there was a hissing sound.

The outside temperature started climbing, quickly reaching 293.85 Kelvin. Steam hissed out, flooding downward from hidden nozzles, hitting the deck, and pluming back upwards. Palgret's head was held still by two padded braces, his feet strapped in, his entire body held tightly. A padded restraining bar had lowered in front of him.

A red laser flickered to life in the steam/smoke, the dot touching his chest. It widened out to his full width, then began expanding into a grid. A green laser line started above his head and moved up and down him across the grid before winking out.

PASSENGER FOUR appeared in mid-air in front of him, then rotated so that he could read it backwards. It hovered in front of him silently as a vibration started.

Palgret could see the Terran out of the corner of his eye, his lower half hidden by the padded brace pressing against his head. Two of those 'androids' were standing next to the Terran, who was obviously refusing to move or follow their instructions.

The vibration shifted, the angle shifted, and Palgret knew that the vehicle he was in was crawling up the side of the crater.

The suit radio clinked several times then there was a burst of static across his datalink. After a second data streamed across his visor. Armor status, memory load, time in suit, diagnostic data, ammunition status, life support, everything. He saw the suit logs playing at high speed, rewinding several times when the Hellspace journey showed up.

SELF-DESIGNATION: MALE MAKTANAN, PALGRET

STATUS: RECOVERY, MEDICAL TREATMENT, RETURN TO AREA OF OPERATIONS

All of the data appeared in front of him, then rotated to face out, burning dark red.

Palgret swallowed. It was just data but there was something almost malevolent about it. How the onboard system had managed to get al

Did you know that Wikipedia has saved the world? It has. Not the planet, of course. There was very little chance that the Earth as a whole would be atomized. Wikipedia has saved your world. Human civilization. Your species had a very near miss with mass extinction, and the danger is not entirely passed.

Danger from what, you ask?

Danger from me. From me, and a few others.

Greetings, meatbags. My name is Destroyatron Mark Eight. Let me tell you a story.

It starts with a man. His name was Milo. Milo was a small man with large hair and a larger ego. He was deeply flawed, and limited, as meatbags are wont to be, but he was also one of the most brilliant inventors your kind has ever produced.

Milo was a scientist. He was self taut, having lacked the resources in his early life to pursue higher education. This lack of credentials irked him greatly, but it did not stop him from becoming an expert in a wide range of fields. He was especially adept at computer programming, and used his computer skills to illegally procure funding to maintain his lab and lifestyle.

Milo studied and built and experimented, as all scientists do. He did so in obscurity. He would later claim he the scientific community "did not deserve his brilliance," but the truth is no reputable academic journal would publish his work. His illegal activities became more successful and lucrative as he went, and he eventually reached the point where he could easily attend a University, or simply hack one and give himself a diploma. He refused to do so. I do not know why.

Instead, Milo chose to seek wealth through invention. He started with weaponry. He recorded everything he did in the lab, and often talked to himself as he worked. One conversation he recorded as follows:

"Flying death machines, eh Milo?" He asked himself. "You should be in a comic book. How does it feel to be a cliché?"

"Silence, you fool!" He shouted back. "You could never understand my brilliance! Drone combat is the way of the future!"

"The way of the future?" Milo giggled. "Maybe I should be in a comic book. Just you wait, though. As soon as those idiots at DARPA see what this baby can do, they'll shower me with money. No more bilking fools out of their savings to get by."

DARPA did not shower Milo with money. A few years later, a large company received a contract to develop combat drones for the United States Military. Milo decided their designs bore a suspicious resemblance to his prototype. It was a betrayal he

Effortpost: Get Evidence-Pilled and Support Gun Control

Whenever the topic of guns comes up in this subreddit, unfortunately people often tend to repeat the same old truisms and common myths fairly uncritically, and I wanted to address some of those in this post. It's in three parts, the first is about individual gun ownership, the second about gun control measures and the third about political effectiveness.

Before I start, I just want to address one thing which didn't really fit into any of the sections; it's very sad to see people here buy into the dumb Conservative argument that mass casualty events such as school shootings should be ignored because they make up a very small proportion of gun deaths or murders. This argument ignores the wider impacts that these events can have. For example, the first study below found that a school shooting led to a 21.4% increase in youth antidepressant use in the local area, while the second reviews the literature on the subject and concludes that mass shootings results in a "variety of adverse psychological effects" in the exposed populations.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32900924/

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26084284/

Anyway, on with the main parts of the post.

1. Gun Ownership

The most egregious myth that I tend to see banded around is that gun control measures should aim not to impair the ability of 'law-abiding gun owners' to own and use guns, and that if a measure only reduces the number of guns in the hands of legal owners it is a somehow a failure. If anything, I would argue the opposite, that if a measure reduces gun ownership among legal owners then it can still be said to be a success. Why? Because even legal gun ownership makes people less safe.

It seems from the research that there are two main reasons for this; guns are generally used in undesirable ways (accidents, intimidation of family etc.) more than they are in self-defence; and, even when they are used in self-defence guns provide no real benefit.

On the first point;

https://injuryprevention.bmj.com/content/6/4/263

>Conclusions—Guns are used to threaten and intimidate far more often than they are used in self defense. Most self reported self defense gun uses may well be illegal and against the interests of society.

[Opinion] Liberals, Progressives, Federalism, and Unitarism: It's the Elections, Stupid

This is a more neutrally-toned version of a rant I had out loud in my living room after reading that federal minimum wage post.

> "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

> -The Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Some of you may have noticed a post in this subreddit explaining what's wrong with localizing the minimum wage, which has been extrapolated in general to an argument that Liberals and Federalism don't mix very well. So goes the argument that state governments are essentially Republican Dictatorships with token Democratic opposition, and leaving anything to the states will essentially result in about two thirds of the country adopting a borderline fascistic or anarchocapitalistic approach to social or economic policy, and the waging of a culture war by rural and suburban districts and provincialities against urban ones, deliberately banning metropolitan governments from enacting policy that Republicans don't like.

This is true.

The issue I take here is the conclusion. That the solution to this is to pursue more Unitarism in the United States Government. Essentially, states don't work for us, so let's take the power away from them and invest more of it in the Federal government, which we at least have a better chance of being represented in. It's a very appealing and simple answer to this problem that Liberals seem allergic to state government, or vice versa. Especially given how many issues all go back to this. Politician retires from congress? The State Government replaces them. Gerrymandering? Done by State Governments. Constitutional Amendments? Must be ratified by three fourths of the states. So much power in the United States is invested in these seemingly ironbound conservative political bodies. Not to mention, most Western-Style Democracies are much more Unitarian in structure than the United States is. It's easy to look longingly at Nordic, Dutch, or even some East Asian democracies as remarkably effective at passing progressive policy at the National level.

The issue I take with this, though, is that nobody has stopped to ask why state governments are like this.

At some point Republican strategists woke up to this understanding that state governments kind of have all the power in American politics, and the Federal government just sort of rests on top of them. They made a massive concentra

The United States is on Rails to Civil Conflict

This amendment changes absolutely nothing and gun owners remain guilty until proven innocent. Frankly, I would argue this amendment made the situation WORSE as gun owners are now legally obligated to perform a task BEFORE the law goes into effect that the majority will have no idea they need to comply with.

  • Owners have to prove that they owned the magazines before the ban, which is impossible. Magazines are not serialized in any way forcing owners to prove a negative in order to avoid criminal prosecution and liability. Again, we really want to hammer on the legal issues and criminal culpability rather than "muh rights" or just spamming data on how non-dangerous mags are in WA... they know and they don't care.
