YSK: That pocket in the door of your Ford Transit Van, Uhaul/Penske/Budget van Rental is NOT for cell phones

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4fSfNeF-II

My friend had this happen today! There is a pocket in in the door of the Ford Transit van that looks like it is MADE for cell phones (it otherwise does not appear to have any purpose). Yes there was a little sticker that looked like a no smoking sticker... My friend thought that was what it was. I saw it and thought it was pointing out the cell phone pocket, but since I wasn't driving, I wanted to use my cell phone. My friend put the phone in the pocket and closed the door... This video (not ours) demonstrates what happened.

Why YSK: If you rent a Transit van to move items, pay attention to the pockets and don't put your cell phone in the pocket in the door that looks like it is for phones or it will get broken.

edit to add TLDR (written by sleauxbreaux42):

THE POCKET IS PLACED IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE DASHBOARD WILL CRUSH YOUR CELL PHONE WHEN THE DRIVER DOOR IS CLOSED.

Advice for looking for a used Ford Transit to convert

Found a 2019 Ford transit high roof extended with 46k miles for $36,550 we got them down to $35k but after fees and all that, still comes out to about $37k. It’s honestly the best price we’ve found on a van of those proportions. The only other high roof extended we’ve seen is a 2020 with 32k miles for $39k before fees/taxes, and we just think it’s ridiculous, but are also at the point where we don’t know if we’ll find anything else. We plan on selling all our belongings to live in it full time for work by the end of the year and I guess I’m just looking for advice. Wait it out and hope to find better in the next couple months? Or jump on it because they really are that hard to find?

Also we are considering getting a regular instead of extended to cut costs and have it fit better for parking, etc., but living in it full time has me thinking the extra space will be nicer. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

2019 Ford Transit starting issues

Hello all,

Since purchasing from a dealer in June 2020, my 2019 Ford Transit 350 (purchased with 18k KM) has had the battery replaced twice, and roughly every two months is requiring a boost. The Ford dealer than we've taken it to multiple times states there is nothing wrong with it after having replaced the battery for the second time.

I am currently waiting on a tow truck for a boost. There is some power, as the instrumentation comes on and I can hear the engine try to turn over, but doesn't actually engage.

The only thing I can think of that might draw power is we had the original dealer install a Compustar FMX 2WG-15R-FM remote start/alarm system. The weather here has been at or above freezing. I drive it at least every other week. I am losing my sanity over this.

Does this vehicle require it be driven multiple times a week to prevent it from having starting issues?

Thank you for reading.

What should I know, that I don't, when looking at Ford Transits?

I'm in the UK, I'm looking to move into the van life scene (as a means of both traveling, and saving money). I'm looking into purchasing an extended wheelbase/extra height (4wd if possible) Ford Transit as the base for that move.

Unfortunately I don't know much about cars, vans or any other vehicle. So I'm looking to ask: what should I be looking for as either an indication of a hidden gem, or a concealed nightmare?

Are there obvious indications of problems, or care, that I should look for?

To begin with I'm going to be looking at obvious signs of rusting around the door trim (including underneath the door seals), and in the undercarriage, any warning lights that indicate servicing has been missed, any holes that can be seen. But what else should I be aware of?

Ford Transit 350HD airbag delete using resistors. Warning light off.

I removed my rear airbags successfully and got the warning light to no longer illuminate. Here's how.

I simply plugged 2.4 ohm 1/4 watt resistors into the 4 yellow plugs which previously connected to my rear airbags. I suffered with the warning light for a couple years, ever since I removed the airbags because I never added the resistors. I finally added them and the warning light went out. I did not have to do anything fancy to clear any computer codes, simply adding the 4 resistors was sufficient to prevent the warning light illumination.

The vehicle is a 2015 350HD wagon with navigation system and 3.5 ecoboost.

I covered the connector/resistor with glue lined heat shrink. I figure if the computer tries to fire the airbags those small resistors will just burn out with no harm done.

There are places online which sell little modules to plug into the connectors to quiet the warning light. But all you really need are 2.4 ohm resistors. Much cheaper.

I'm making my first expensive (to me) vehicle purchase. The vehicle is a 2010 LWB Mid Roof Ford Transit 2399cc 6 speed diesel and I just want to make sure I am doing this the right way

Pre purchase inspection is happening in the town the van is in tomorrow which includes a diagnostic scan, I'm about 200 miles away.

If all goes well with that, I will go test drive it for an hour. If that goes well, we will do the deal.

Apparently the van is due for a service in 1500km, I plan to get a service straight away at my regular mechanic.

Insurance is done.

Is there anything else that I should be doing?
