Is it possible for this to occur? I mean Hopkins shouldnβt be the standard anymore. But I was reading it and it showed how doctors were treating people without the proper training and it set high standards.
Someone with lesser standards are basically treating patients. There needs to be another jarring report that fixes this.
If the AMA was able to initiate a report evaluating medical schools 100 years ago, is there a reason they haven't done so regarding NP schools?
I understand that the recommendations from the Flexner report were actually intended to be followed, unlike what would happen with NP schools. However, wouldn't pulling the blinds back and shining some daylight on the reality of NP education at least help somewhat with public understanding and PR? It's not like the AMA doesn't have the money to do this, and something like this would perhaps actually help fight against FPA propositions.
Idk, is this something that the medical students, residents, and physicians should try to come together to bring about?
The Flexner Report was one of the most important and impactful events affecting medicine and medical education in the early 20th century. Perhaps it's gross ignorance on my part, but I'm unaware of any similar investigations having been undertaken in recent times. Considering the creation and expansion of PA / NP programs in the country, as well as their recent efforts to vie for independence / a significant expansion of their scope, why has there seemingly been nothing similar to the Flexner Report been undertaken for mid-levels? The clinical education of many NP / DNP programs is questionable at best, especially considering how many non-clinical courses are dedicated to a clinical degree. It seems like the crucial and valuable role that mid-levels fill is being taken advantage of and being grossly perverted by online degree-mills and lobbyists.
Can something like the Flexner Report be undertaken to bring about a serious analysis of the medical education system in its entirety in modern times?
With the conversation about mid levels and independent practice, why havenβt we done a re-eval of these program mills pumping out providers. Iβm getting tired of reading about it and then seeing the βuniversity of who ever wants to pay meβ for your online doctorate degree. Like. This is obviously just a cash grab. If these people are really going to try to be treated like us, they should be set to the same standard as us. So someone should really just go around and survey some of these βGET YOUR DNP IN 18 MONTHβ programs and seriously reassess this.
They did it back in the day with the Flexner report for med schools and they shut down a ton of programs. And no I donβt think a nursing board should be responsible for accrediting providers. We all serve a function in this system and we should know which lanes we should stay in.
It's almost 30 states at the moment. The remaining states could only follow suit. When will the Flexner Report ever going to get Flexed?
Too many bad med schools popping up making mad money off students, bazillion new DOs schools every month, NPs, PAs, crazy shit... let's call for a new Flexner and clean this up like the Homeopaths+other quacks were cleaned up
edit: forgot the Caribs too
