Yonatan (Yoni) Netanyahu, Benjamin Netanyahu's brother and one of the IDF commanders leading the mission, was the only Israeli casualty during the operation.
We remember this act of heroism and sacrifice that saved so many lives. ๐ฎ๐ฑ

Ma was always pretty left of center. Open mindedness, listening, compassion. I learned that all from her. Grew up single mom btw. We benefited from food stamps/EBT, state health insurance, and other community programs. We never really attended church. Just wasnโt our thing. But now she lives a few states over, alone most of the time. Listening to Shapiro, cruising FB, and bought a bible. Concerned our 50-70 folks are being turned from moderate (even left) to far right, and they vote the most! Iโve been making an effort to talk to her more. Which ends up in a disagreement that ends when she โgets upsetโ and shuts down. I make sure to be informed, involved, and vote where I am.
Guess I just wanted to see if the group has seen the same. But also to encourage maybe trying to mend fences with older folks where maybe itโs possible. Also to support everyone to try and stem the BS that is happening despite it seeming futile. We have to try. Be the change you want to see right?
Stay engaged and positive everybody.
TL;DR Mom has changed viewpoint, and โrevisingโ family history. Is she losing it, being brainwashed, or am I out to lunch?
Edit: Thank you everyone contributing to the conversation! Apologies if I donโt get back to all of you.
I'm creating a pulp adventure world where twenty years ago a magic ritual went terribly wrong (or right) causing a gradual sundering of the isles. I'm not the best student of history or world politics though and I don't know if it would be more natural for the kingdom to relocate somewhere nearby in continental Europe or somewhere like Canada/Australia, or if it would be more of a decentralized diaspora. If it's relevant the technology is a bit more advanced in this timeline, allowing for greater international travel.
Thanks for any advice!
Edit: So it sounds like Canada makes sense as the seat of the relocated government, while the population would disperse between there and various other commonwealth countries/English speaking nations. I think that's a great start for my story, thanks for all the help. Feel free to reply if you have other ideas.
Hi, this is my first post. I want to know more about colonial history of British East Africa, today the nations of Kenya, Uganda and I think Tanzania. A know a little about the Mau Mau revolution but would like to know more about the reasons for it starting. Any references or information would be appreciated. Have a great evening.
Good afternoon fellow Redditors!
I'm looking for good research and history of Women in Armenia... anything from Medieval times 1500s to late 1800s... Even before Medieval Times, like an article of how some ancient women warriors remains were found in excavations, that had the funeral/tomb of a military person.
I want to know: How did they dress? How did they live their lives? What were the prevailing attitudes of Women's Education and place in society? Was it very patriarchal, like the 1900s? Where women taught to be literate? My understanding is that in villages they weren't so much, but that changed during the Soviet times. What was life like for families?
Also, any resources or research of ancient Cilicia and life therein, it would be much appreciated!
I had found some published scholastic things, but I thought to check with this Reddit, as maybe you could also provide some resources.
P.S. - I'm not literate in Armenian, so prefer texts in English, but if not, I'm sure I can use Google Translate a bit.
My current resources I've found, in case anyone is interested:

The early history of photography is a large ME on this subreddit, but I havenโt seen people describe their remembered history fully which leaves many such as me confused. There are many posts that are just photos from the 1850s, seeming to show that many people donโt remember photography just a decade before the civil war (a war famous for photography) while others just donโt remember HD photography back then.
In the current history, the oldest surviving photograph is โView from the Window at Le Grasโ which was taken in 1826 or 1827. Daguerreotypes, the first publicly available photographs, which can produce high definition images, were introduced in 1839 and became fairly common in the 1840s. There were technically photos of the mexican american war but they are very low quality and werenโt for journalism so they are obscure. While the crimean war did have the first war photographs published in newspapers, the american civil war is generally considered to be the first photographic war due to the sheer scale of the photography and their prominent use in newspapers.
So when do you remember the first photograph being taken ? The first high quality photographs being taken ? And the first war with mainstream photography ?
RIP Restitutor Orbis. You left way too early.
I find you can get a better flavour of English history from fiction rather than drier non-fiction. With that in mind, does anyone know of a list of books / plays / films which encompass English history from about 1000 AD. So all years are covered till 2000.
I had initially wondered about just one work per monarchโฆ starting perhaps with The Lion in Winter (Henry II) and then eventually the Shakespearean history plays and the more modern books etc etc.
If you know of either a royal or general list, please let me know. Or perhaps you have suggestions for these lists.
