Question for devs or reps... Closed captioning option on Xbox One?

First of all, thank you for the app. It fills a hole in my daily routine that I didn't know was there. It's wonderful. I'm curious if there's any hope of getting a closed caption caption on the Xbox One app someday?

The one advantage of home viewing vs theater going: closed captioning.

Maybe I'm getting older, maybe sound mixes are weird when streamed, but I'm finding closed captioning to be indispensible when watching movies and tv. So much so, I am going to miss it when I get back to the big screen. I know they have the little devices, but it's so convenient at home.

I prefer the theater experience over home, but CC adds so much.

I'm not hearing-impaired but I love closed-captioning so much

I started using captions about a year ago and didn't realize how accustomed I had become until today, watching "Gattaca" on some random station on my Roku. For some reason the closed-captioning isn't working and I can't understand twenty percent of what they say! The dialogue parts are so quiet I crank the volume to hear and then it's too loud during the action parts. I've had to rewind several scenes to try to catch what someone says, sometimes multiple times because what if it's a crucial element of the story? I need to understand those words!

This all feels like so much work. I really miss those comfortable, easy words on the bottom of the screen. Closed-captioning, I love you. Please don't ever leave me again.

anybody else notice how terrible the CC is on all the barstool videos? few examples this morning from chef donnys video - β€œthat z out of the question, you got assault your food” and β€œwell your marriage is probably family.” they are even worse on pizza reviews. i wouldn’t mind if i could take them off but apparently that isn’t an option on my phone. shoutout tim cobbet (march 8th) and fuck cheese boy.

Is there a desktop application that does automatic closed captioning?

This might be a silly question, but I’m wondering if there’s a Windows application (or device?) that essentially listens to the audio, and converts that into text in real-time?

When having to do online meetings at work, I find it hard to hear what people are saying despite turning up the volume, and although Microsoft Teams has built-in support for CCs, others don’t.

I figure some of you have run into this too, and may have some good suggestions. Thanks!

God bless closed captioning

A big thank you to the disability community for making CC a standard, because I absolutely could not make it through my favorite shows and movies without it. Something about having the words on the screen provides a focal point for my eyes, and allows me to better process audio. Without it, I find my eyes wandering, and at that point, it’s all over.

Closed Captioning Should Name the Song and Artist Instead of Just Saying "Music Playing" for the Benefit of Deaf People Who Know a Signed Rendition of the Song or Know It From Before Becoming Deaf

Music can convey emotions or foreshadow events. But "Music playing" doesn't really tell you much of anything. If the person knows the song in some format then knowing that was the song that was playing would help them to imagine it and improve their experience.

Would also be great for hearing people who just want to know what song that was.

I remember this horror ARG was covered by a large channel before and I remember them pointing out how some of the videos have no audio but character dialog can be found within the closed captions. I know that it is NOT Daisy Brown but rather something about genetically modified humans/humanoids and some of the videos are shot from the POV of someone’s HUD rather than a camera. Thank you in advance.

Why do the subtitles/closed captioning on movies and TV shows sometimes feel the need to rephrase what the characters are actually clearly saying in the audio?

I mean even if the subtitle is too long to fit on the screen, surely they could just split it across multiple subtitles? That happens literally all the time in most subtitled shows.

Closed captioning on Chromecast

Are there any plans to enable this? We typically watch with subs on because of a loud furnace blower and my and my partner's tendency to yammer over dialogue (we're really terrible about this). I noticed I could enable CC if viewing on my phone, but there's no option once Chromecast is activated.

I know CC isn't available for every title, but it would be nice to take advantage of the ones that have it.

Closed Captioning that can be repeatedly and reliably retrieved from streams ... whats a good workflow, and what should be avoided?

We got a show coming up that I’ll produce w vMix and push to a yet undetermined online platform.

I’m set up w/ an EEG caption encoder and a remote captioner who can listen to the webcast, send the data back to the encoder, and voila, I’ve got an close captioned encoded feed. No problem.

What display platforms will support the option of displaying (opening) the captions, depending on whether the user wants them open or not?

Just after the one hour mark, when she spins out in the car and the radio suddenly starts playing "Papa Was A Rolling Stone", here's what the closed captioning showed (with the real lyrics in parentheses):

"Oh well you know it's on" (Papa was a rolling stone)
"They're coming where the healing's at was his home" (Wherever he laid his hat was his home)
"And when he died" (And when he died)
"Oh he left us for the loan" (All he left us was alone)
