I swear I saw it as a kid but can’t find anything to back it up.
Boycott - avg of 47.73 and SR of 39.75
Border - avg of 50.56 and SR of 41.38
Both had very similar Strike Rates in Test cricket, and one would presume that Boycott would get more leeway for playing slowly because he was an opener, and needed more time to set settled in, as compared to Border who primarily batted in the middle order.
And yet, Boycott gets made fun of, for being too slow, while Border goes alright.
Was just listening to some podcast about the tied test, As everybody knows when Deano was severely dehydrated and was not willing to go back to field, Border quipped "If you can’t hack it, let’s get a tough Queenslander out here — get me Greg Ritchie!”. Border is being celebrated as a tough guy, especially for instances like this
What if Jones had gotten into serious life threatening condition, would Border been charged with attempted murder, FGS it was just a test match
